The Commissionaire Model (aka the 3-tier Model)

Hi Guys !
Commissionaire model is commonly followed by companies in Europe to get tax advantage. In this model there is one company code(the Principal) which owns all inventory and records all sales and revenues whereas the Commissionaire company codes in different European countries face the customer and act on behalf of the Principal. The customer only sees and deals with the Commissionaire(the principal is invisible to the customer). At the end of the month, the Principal company code pays out a commission to the commissionaire company codes based on the sales made in their country.
If anybody has worked with this model, I would like to talk to you ! I'm looking for the R/3 org structure in such a model and the logistic and financial document flow.
I'm also looking for some reference SAP customers who have implemented this model.

Intra page "security" within the web tier

we currently have a web application using turbine/velocity technologies. we currently have security at the page level where based on a users's role (credentials managed in oracle database tables), they can or can't see a particular page.
now we have a requirement to present a different view based on the user's role. for instance, users in the "worker" role can't cancel an order, but they can update an order. thus they wouldn't see the cancel button. somone in the "supervisor" role could cancel an order and should see the cancel button. we want the ability to take this to the level of specifying view (and access) to any object on a particular page/screen/form/whatever.
so, i'm interested in what others have done to perhaps tackle this interesting issue of providing component level views based on a users credentials. we also do not currently have security on our back end components (slsb), and it would be nice to use the same security model in both areas. meaning you've gotta provide security credentials to get access to the beans and those same credentials are the ones used by the web tier.
any thoughts, reading suggestions, patterns, etc would be most most appreciated.

i think you should look towards jGuard (http://jguard.sourceforge.net).
jGuard provides easy JAAS integration into J2EE.
with jGuard, you can configure, and change on-the-fly your authentication and/or authorization settings in a unique way(works on multiple application servers).
jGuard provides too a tag library to protect your ressources depending on your roles,or your access right to a specific url, or a specific credential like it seems you are looking for.

Could somebody throw some light on how one would go about incorporating the Commissionaire Model using SAP? How is the enterprise structure defined? How the inter company transactions take place? What is the Sales Org set up?

How to attach a file fin the middle tier in the workflow notification

My requirement
1) File is there in the middle tier (file name : invoice_99.pdf )
2) From workflow notification I need to read that file (invoice_99.pdf) and
open it from the notification when user click on it

Btw, I have done exactly same requirement several times and it's easy to do.
1)Create a Document Attribute and specify to attach it to the notif msg.
2)Create a PL/SQL function activity in workflow
3)In the PL/SQL proc, Load the file using dbms_lob into a LOB and set the attribute using
wf_engine.SetItemAttrText(itemtype      => itemType
,itemkey      => itemkey
,aname      => 'SRQ_REPORT'

Question about shutting down the middle tier while leaving the DB up

We just successfully upgraded 11.5.10.2 from running on 9.2.0.8 SOLARIS SPARC 32-bit to 11.2.0.1 SOLARIS SPARC 64-bit.
I am in the process of rewriting the backup scripts. We used to do a once-a-week backup (zip) of the middle tier directories,
after shutting down EVERYTHING cold (MT first, then DB listener, the DB). Our DB consultant likes hot-only backups of the
DB so we are going to keep the DB running all the time and always do hot backups from the DB, but keep MT cold backup.
We want to keep our MT cold backup so we retain our downtime window that users expect (Saturday night - Sun morning).
So my question is ---- is there any issue with shutting down the entire MT- only (adstpall.sh) -- but leaving the DB up?
When I do a adstrtal (via my script) the next morning--- everything should just start fine with no DB bonce having been done, right?
In the past, once I have the MT down, wait 5 min, kill any stray FND processes, I usually go on to bounce the database
"for good measure". I am 99% sure that I don't have to do this... and that there is no harm in "not" doing this, just need
some confirmation.

We don't have many users (< 60) and while we do have autoinvoice that runs every 5 min, I haven't had to do a big bounce

What steps are needed to configure the apps tier after a db-only clone?

Hello Gurus.
My client wants to save time on cloning, and has asked for database only refresh - meaning that we dont clone to the application tier, but only to the database.
What steps must be taken once the db clone has completed? Need I run autoconfig? What about all the profiles that will be pointing to LIVE in the database?

you should run adautocfg.sh on the application tier as well. Otherwise the essential information regarding your application tier will not be registered within the database and you will not be able to connect to your database through the application.
adcfgclone will not be necessary on the application tier.

the book store example creates the bookdbao in contextlistener

In Java EE 7's Firstcup tutorial, why does does the web tier consume the data from the dukes-age web service?

In the Firstcup tutorial, the responsibilities of the web tier are listed as:
dynamically generate content for the client
collect input from the user
return results from business tier components
control the flow of client screens & pages
maintain session state
perform basic logic
hold data temporarily in JavaBeans components
Which of these responsibilities would retrieving data from a web service fall under?
The tutorial also lists the technologies used in the web tier, and JAX-RS is not included in that list. The list of technologies used by the business tier does, however, list JAX-RS. I was surprised to find the DukesBDay JavaBeans component (in the web tier) calling the dukes-age web service, instead of the DukesBirthdayBean EnterpriseBean (in the business tier), which uses hard coded value for Duke's birth date.
Is it typical for the web tier to consume web services in this way? What about when using an application client container, wouldn't that skip the web tier altogether, and in doing so also skip the web service call? Wouldn't DukesBirthdayBean in the business tier benefit from making the call to the web service, instead of having the date hard coded into it, and wouldn't this also solve the problem of the missing web service call when using an application client container?

The Enterprise Services adhere to these standards, and on the provider side you have the tools to configure the authentication settings as needed. On the consumer side, one just has to use a Java release (or any other platform) that supports these standards.
While I am not a Java developer, there should be [many ways to consume a Web service in Java|http://www.google.bg/search?q=consumewebservice+java].

When to use the EJB tier?

Could someone explain in simple and general terms when, say for a brand new application, you should or should not use the EJB tier over retaining everything in the web tier? Obviously it will depend on what the application is, but how so?

I generally use EJBs when i want propper transactional support in my webapps as you get lots of stuff thrown in ejbs thats saves me having to write code.
There are loads of reasons why you should / shouldnt use ejbs though so have a look at these for a bit more info.

Your solution to my problem of needing to print the code of the html pages that the file I included generates was just what I was looking for. However, I have some further questions to ask, if you don't mind. To clarify my task I should say that your rephrasing of the problem is accurate: "You wan't to display the contents of the HTML file that the web server produces in response of client's request?"
Yes, this is what I need to do, but also it needs to display the source code of that html file that the server produces in response to the client's request. Also, in this case, I am the client requesting that the server return some html file, and I'm not sure where the server is. But the webserver.java file that I shared on the forum is on my local machine. I was wondering if I could modify this webserver.java file at my home so that any html file the server returns to me would automatically display the source code. This is a school project of mine and I am stuck on this one thing here.
Further, where would I put the "foo.html" file so it can be written to?

interact with the actual Relational Database from which the XML Database was built.

JAAS outside the Web Tier

Tried posting this on the Glassfish users list to no avail
Glassfish realms can be used to provide, in combination with j_security_check, security and authorization for web applications.
What I don't understand however is how to use those services outside the web tier. For example, in JMS. The default JMS provider in Glassfish is OpenMQ and also supports JAAS.
So, how do you use a Glassfish realm to clamp down your topics and queues? From the Glassfish administration console, in "New JMS Connection Factory" the only options available are properties for the password and the user name which seem to be globally set per factory.
What am I missing here? Glassfish supports JAAS. OpenMQ supports JAAS. OpenMQ is inside Glassfish. However, OpenMQ inside Glassfish can't use Glassfish realms.

I believe you are mistaken. My question was one of integration, not of syntax. Integration of the JAAS modules and realms already found in Glassfish in combination with OpenMQ.
I already know OpenMQ supports JAAS and I know how to setup JAAS on a standalone OpenMQ instance.
But this is not the case here. Under a Glassfish standard install, the OpenMQ extension folder is empty. I'm looking for either an existing bridge between the copy of OpenMQ that is embedded inside Glassfish and the Glassfish realms that the container holds or confirmation that no such bridge exists.
At the moment, it seems the answer to this question is no, OpenMQ isn't setup to interoperate with Glassfish at that level. Furthermore, I'm unsure if I could use the same JAAS modules that are already setup in the login.conf of Glassfish due to concurrency issues.

[b]Migrating the DB-Tier (DB and CM) to Two node non RAC cluster[/b]

The current set-up of our E-business suite is a two node install:-
The DB Tier (Database and Concurrent Manager) on one node
The Apps Tier (Forms /Web Server) on another node.
For the HA solution (NON ORACLE RAC) we are planning to:-
Move the DB Tier (Database and Concurrent Manager) to a three node hardware sun cluster managed by veritas cluster manager (NOT ORACLE RAC). We need to know will the Database Tier (Database and Concurrent Manager) work on Hardware cluster node and will it support COLD FAILOVER from one Node to another. We know the database on its own would be fine with a cold failover because we have tested the database cold failover on the three node cluster for non E-business suite database. But here we have the added thing of the Concurrent manger sitting on the node along with the Database on the DB Tier.
The Apps Tier (Forms / Web server) will be put on a separate set of server using Load balances etc.
Has anybody implemented similar HA set-up and will this planned set-up work or are there any issues with this.

Yes, you can do the cold failover the database and all the 11i services also.
1. In the concurrent manager service
== when you failover the concurrent manager do the following things before failover.
create the listener/tnsnames files which includes the new hostname and keep it with the veritas failover service. i mean, when you failover, these files should replace the existing files, before the existing files should backedup. and create a script to change the hostname,logfile_hostname,outfile_hostname in fnd_concurent_processes table.
add the nodes in the install->nodes navigation
do the failover manually and check the listener files are properly pinging using tnsping. and start the concurrent manager.
so tatally, you have to prepare two sql scripts
one for change the hostname from node b to node a
one for node a to node b.
and 2 listener + 2 tnsnames files which contains the seperate hostname accordingly.
use the adcmctl.sh top stop and start
finally, create a shell script to kill the sysmgr for the current managers when the manager takes long time to shutdown. before run the kill script, wait for 5 mts atleast.
I done the same scenario many times, with veritas failover service with 2 sun v880 servers.

UnmarshalException (ClassNotFoundException) on the presentation tier

Hi!
We experience a problem when throwing application exceptions from a session bean
in one cluster to the client, implemented as a servlet running in another cluster.
We currently use WLS 6.1 SP1.
When the session bean throws a "home grown" subclass of java.lang.Exception, the
presentation tier never receives the exception. Instead, a ClassNotFoundException
occurs and is thrown as an UnmarshalException. The specific exception class IS available
to the web application class loader. There are no problems with returning instances
of our own classes from the session bean to the web application.
I am pretty sure that the problem can be solved by including the exception classes
in the system classpath. This is however not an option, as the classes may exist
in several version across projects deployed on the cluster. Also I suspect that our
platform people will not accept that we enable network class loading on the presentation
server.
Are there any other solutions to this problem (which do not involve a redesign of
our services).

Just to follow up: I have now tried with NetworkClassLoadingEnabled="true". This no
longer results in a ClassNotFoundException. However, the network loaded class is
not compatible with the class already known in the web tier.
Any suggestions are welcome...

Are there any other solutions to this problem (which do not involve
a
redesign of
our services).
