The concept of RS-485

Dear all,
I am a physicist.
Recently, I was told RS-485 could be used as the multi-communication method like GPIB.
Like RS-232, can the desktop (or notebook) computer supports RS-485 port?
or should I buy a special interface card for the port?
How about the compatiblity between RS-232 and RS-485?
Can I use RS-485 method to RS-232 devices? or Is there a device for RS-485?
Please let me know some speciality of RS-485 such as the connection cable.
Thank you.
Lee

Hi labmaster,
I am a physicist as well.
RS-232 and RS-485 are definitions of the electrical interface.
The data encoding in both schemes is the same, what differs the hardware.
RS-232 is way old and originally used a signal line and a return line. The signals used to be 0 and 12 volts but as time went on the 12V eventually became anything over 1.5 volts for a mark. RS-232 was intended for a single driver and single receiver. The original spec also limited it to only 50 feet.
RS-485 went to a differential scheme. This let them drive the line faster, longer, and picked up the option of multiple nodes. In the multi-drop scenario RS-485 comes in two flavors, 2-wire and 4-wire. In two wire the same pair of wires is used to transmit and recieve. In 4-wire the transmit and receive piars are distict. In two wire the interface has to switch from tranmit to recieve.
Companies like NI and Black Box make converters that will let you adapt from one scheme to the other.

  • What is the concept of multiple projects

    Hi All,
We have multiple development projects and support as well. Now my problem is say in Project1 we are working on OBJECT1, simultaneously the support team is also working on the same object (which is unknown to us). Now while transporting OBJECT1 as part of Project1 it has a dependent objects of support team, thus resulting in transportation errors and object conflicts. From SAP help I read about the concept of using multiple project assignment in transportation. Can anyone clearly explain what is multiple project concept in terms of transportation.
One most important thing I would like to know is how, whilst transportation how SAP is identifying the missing object. For example I am trying to transport a request number, but while transporting it has given an error something like object 'XXXX' is missing. Now my question is how SAP is identifying that object 'XXXX' is missing?
I would really appreciate any useful information.
    Thanks,
    Venkat

Multiple projects in terms of transportation should make it possible to have a better overview of your transports. This way, a transport request can be assigned to a certain project, making it easier for logging purposes.
During import of the transport request, a check is done on the database (for example if a data element is available) to find out if a certain object is available or not. If not, an error is generated.
So it would be wise, before releasing the transport, to check if all objects you are using are part of another transport as well and if these transports have already been imported before your transport. Check all possible dependencies. It would be better though, to check this before making use of objects which you haven't created yourself in your development objects.

  • What is the concept of  view in material master?

    Hello sap gurus
    Some quetions regarding Material Master
what is  the concept of views in material master ?
what is determined by specifying industry sector in material master ?
To sell material which views are material are maintened in Material master?
    Regards
    Amit

    Hi,
<b>Material master  for finished ggods is related with SD, MM & PP departments</b>. If you carefully go through the various screens in MM record you will realize the importance of the respective fields and the department to which they belong.
<b>1.Suppose Base unit of measure</b> in Basic data 1 screen. The production people will keep the stock of the item using this UOM.
<b>2. In Sales:Sales Org.1</b> screen we have sales unit in which we will sell the material.
<b>3. Then we have the plant</b> data in which we enter the delivering plant. Also the taxes are determined from the plant so we have the settings for taxes also - whether this material is fully taxable/50% tax/Tax exempted.
<b>4. Then we have purchasing</b> screen in which the data like the purchasing group, variable units, etc are entered. This will effect the purchasing cycle when we are procuring a material from outside. This is related to MM.
<b>5. The we have MRP</b>, this is related to PP as to how to manufacture the product, the MRP type, the strategy group - whether it is MTO/MTS like that.
<b>5. Sales:Sales Org.2 screen</b> - Here we mainatin the account assignment group which is very important as far as the generation of the accounting document is concerned. This triggers the system where to post the value in which G/L account. Accounting document is generated when we create the invoice in VF01 & save it.
<b>6. Work scheduling</b> - Related with the sceduling of the production as to whether underdelivery or overdelivery is allowed, the storage location
<b>7. Quality</b> - Here you can select for a particular finished item where where it has to be checked for quality during its journey from the raw material stage to the finished goods store as a finished item.
<b>8. Accounting</b> - Related to accounting, product costing, total value of the stock in hand, etc. Also related with FI & PP
So all the screens have data which effects one or more modules for the proper functioning of the system to give the optimum results.
    <b>Industry Sector:</b>
Key that specifies the branch of industry to which the material is assigned.
    <b>Use</b>
When you create a material master record, the industry sector you specify determines
    1. which screens appear and in what order
    2. which industry-specific fields appear on the individual screens
    <b>Screens for Sales:</b>
Sales:Sales Org.1, Sales:Sales Org.2. But other screens also have data which is related to sales. You cannot just maintain the sales views and save the master. It has to be properly linked with the other modules also for the proper functioning of the system. That is why the system is called as "Enterprise Resource Planning" You have to paln the resources of your company and these resources are related with all the modules.
    Reward points if solution helps.

  • EHP Upgrade - Trying to understand the concept

Dear experts, this is an effort to understand the concept. I have been doing Basis work for the past 10 years approximately. All along, I have been doing the typical LCP and SP upgrades way back from legacy systems until now (ECC 5.0 / BW 3.5). We have recently upgraded our BW 3.5 to BI 7.01 and also created a dual stack (we never had Java stack before for BW). This is my situation. Below are my questions. Any guidance would be highly appreciated.
    1. Do we still have the SP Stack upgrades within Ehp 1? Or, has it been revamped completely and there is no more SP upgrades and we only need to do EhP upgrades? In this case, if I have to upgrade from Netweaver 7.01, is my only option upgrading to 7.02?
    2. Is there a place where I can start to catchup with the whole EhP concept? I would like to know the maintenance life cycle and the impact on our environment.
    3. Are there any specific upgrade guides that will guide me in transitioning from the typical SP upgrade methodology to EhP upgrade methodology. Also, I would like to know how did you transition (learning curve) from someone who had been with typical SP upgrade for a long time and how did you adopt yourself to the new path (like what guides did you use, what links did you follow, etc)
NOTE: I have heard the EhP upgrades are similar to release upgrades and I have done handful of release upgrades.
Thank you so much in advance.

    >1. Do we still have the SP Stack upgrades within Ehp 1? Or, has it been revamped completely and there is no more SP upgrades and we only need to do EhP upgrades? In this case, if I have to upgrade from Netweaver 7.01, is my only option upgrading to 7.02?
Yes we do have both option available. Either we can go for SP upgrade or we can go with EHP upgrade.
    >2. Is there a place where I can start to catchup with the whole EhP concept? I would like to know the maintenance life cycle and the impact on our environment.
Yes. http://Service.sap.com/erp-ehp is the place where you can get all the infromation and document.

  • Unable to understand the concept of Primary Key in EJB

    hi,
please help me in understanding the concept of Primary Key.
For each and every entity bean represents a data base row. i think it is correct. if multiple users are accessing the same data base row, there will be different primary key for each and every client. is it correct or not. can we say this as "concurrency"?. if all the clients are manipulating the bean, who manages it either application server or data base server?. why does we must implement both hashCode() and equals() methods?. Provide me the links where i can find the answers.

    if multiple users are
accessing the same data base row, there will be
different primary key for each and every client. This is incorrect: the PrimaryKey is the unique identifier for each database row. It has nothing to do with users. In order for CMP to work, the container must be able to operate with a single row in the database and be able to distinquish between them.
If your CMP->database table already has one column that's unique, then you declare that CMP field to be <primary-key-field>. If you have more than one column that makes a row unique, you must make your own primary key object. The way the container can tell the difference between these primary key objects is to compare them, therefore the hashCode and equals methods.
Provide me the links where i can find the
answers. This is all discusssed in the J2EE Tutorial.

  • Hi,  can any body explain the concept of UTILIZATION IN EXCISE

    hi,
    sap gurus,
can any body explain the concept of Utilization in excise,  if possible send me the documentation
    part of that please.
please explain me on this also
in direct factory sales from direct factory to customer how utilisation works
in depot sales: first material has to reach from factory to depot and then it has to be passed to
customer then in this situation  how utilisation works in SAP.
    regards,
    balaji.t

    Dear balaji
Export under Rebate is the procedure in which the exporters first pay the central excise duty before clearing the goods from the factory and subsequently get it back by applying for rebate after the goods are exported.  They have to apply to the Division or to the Maritime Commissioner (designated exclusively to look after all Export related issues) as the case may be, along with the required documents (usually the Export Promotion copy of the Shipping Bill and Bill of Lading) to prove that their goods had actually been exported.
Rebate can be claimed for both the inputs (purchased from indigenous markets and used in the manufacture of exported goods) as well as for the final products.  Normally, rebate is being widely opted by non-excise assessees (for example garment exporters) who procure raw materials locally, manufacture their final products and export them.   It is similar to Drawback of Customs duties in respect of Imported raw materials.
From SD side, you have to make settings in Logistics-General --> Tax on Goods Movements --> India --> Business Transactions --> Outgoing Excise Invoices --> Maintain Default Excise Groups and Series Groups.
Here for the combination of sales area, shipping point, plant, excise group and series group, you have to maintain Export type [N under the tab Export]
    thanks

  • What is the concept behind using table PA0002 and structure p0002.

    Hi,
What is the concept behind using table PA0002 and structure p0002.
Many times, I have seen Looping at structure e.g. p0002, p0006 etc. and data is processed and also seen Looping at table PA0002, PA0006 etc. with further appropriate subtypes if any to retrieve a value and process the same.
In which context tables like PA,HRP,IT etc. are used and structures p0001,p0002 etc. are used.
    Regards,
    Ameet

    HI,
As mentioned  that that Structure Pnnnn is user as a internal tablw when a LDB is used.
    Ex.
    TABLES: PERNR.
    INFOTYPES: 0001.
      GET PERNR.
        PROVIDE * FROM P0001 BETWEEN PN-BEGDA AND PN-ENDDA.
        WRITE:  / P0001-PERNR,
                  P0001-STELL,
                  P0001-BEGDA,
                  P0001-ENDDA.
        ENDPROVIDE.
Here it is important to declare the infotypes you want to read  and so the system will create internal tables  ex. P0001.
Tables PA0001 are database table with following fields
    MANDT
    .INCLUDE  PAKEY
    .INCLUDE  PSHD1
    .INCLUDE   PS nnnn
    Thanks,
    Poonam.

    Hi Dave,
Not sure if this is your exact requirement... but might be helpful.
The concept of Active directory is that users can login to HFM application with the windows credentials. To make that work you should first need to configure.

  • What is the concept of scale in BPC?

Hello SAP Gurus, I have a basic question. what exactly is the concept of scale in BPC?
    Thanks.

For presentation of large numbers financial reports are often scaled to thousands or millions depending on the currency.  In the account dimension we can use a property called "SCALING" and set it to Yes or No.  Then in a BPC Excel report the "Get and Scale Value" function [EVGTS|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_bpc75/helpdata/en/ef/824d0b838a4c73bd460ec9d689607f/content.htm] can be used to display the numbers scaled to the factor specified within the formula.
    Syntax
    EvGTS(AppName,ScaleValue,[dim:]member1,[dim:]member2,[dim:]memberN)
AppName u2014 The name of the application. This is required if the corresponding dimension does not exist in the active application.
ScaleValue u2014 If the scale property in the Account-type dimension is Y, then EvGTS uses this value. If the scale property is N, this value is ignored. The scale value can be set to 1, 100, 1000, or 1,000,000. The default value in report templates is one (1). When the scale value is 1 (units), this function works identically like the EvGET function.
Member1u2013n u2014 You can specify as many members that you want. Any dimension not specified in the formula is taken from the current view. If you supply only the period and not the year, EvGET uses the year from the Category's YEAR property. For example, EvGET(Finance, Jan,Budget,GlobalMotors, Revenue,AllProducts) uses the year specified in the Budget category YEAR property. If that year is 2008, the example gets data for the period Jan.2008.
If the same member name is used in more than one dimension, you must specify the dimension name. Use this syntax: dimension:member.
    Example
The following example returns $500,000.00 from the database and presents it in the report as $500:
    EvGTS(Finance,1000,Account.Sales,Entity.Sales,Jan.20008,Budget

  • What is the concept behind MASTER_IDOC_DISTRIBUTE

What is the concept behind MASTER_IDOC_DISTRIBUTE ?

    Hi Manjunath,
Please check the Documentation of the Function Module in SE37
This function module is the interface from the application to the ALE layer on the outbound side. The application can pass an IDoc, the so-called master IDoc, as an internal table using the parameters MASTER_IDOC_CONTROL and MASTER_IDOC_DATA.
This IDoc is then converted into one or communcation IDocs and stored in the ALE layer. IDocs for which no errors occurred are passed to dispatch control.
In the table parameter  COMMUNICATION_IDOC_CONTROL the header records for the communication IDocs created are retturned. You can tell whether processing was successful from the field STATUS.
A COMMIT WORK must be dispatched in the calling program, otherwise the IDocs may not be dispatched.
    Best regards,
    raam
