"The connection to the host was unexpectedly lost" Cannot log into AIM

Every time I try to log into ichat, using AIM service I get this message...
The connection to the host was unexpectedly lost.
However, I can log onto ichat on my other mac. (macbook) And I can access AIM from AIM program on my windows computer....
Everything in preferences is configured right...Can anyone shed some light onto this?

I have this problem, using ichat only (not using aim directly) and posted before in another thread with essentially the same name as this one. I tried all the solutions offered and none worked. BUT I did "solve" my problem. Here's how:
Solution number 1) I connected my macbook via an ethernet connection directly to my cable modem. No other changes at all, no further problems, was able to use ALL features of ichat immediately and quite well (audio and video).
Solution number 2) Since we have several computers at home, we must use a wireless router, a Netgear router. If I connect to the router (which then connects to the cable modem), ichat does not work, and I get the exact message as in this subject line. Going to the Netgear router settings (changing nothing on my macbook), I changed ONE thing only: I disabled the SPI firewall. Then, no problem using ichat to chat, but I still can't use audio or video features.
Hope this helps. For me, it diagnosed the problem with using basic ichat: the SPI firewall on the router. Also, the audio/video problem is a router problem too, which I do not yet know how to fix.
Since I am timid and fearful, I do not want to leave the SPI firewall permanently disabled.

    I am trying to connect to AIM via iChat in Mac OS X Tiger. Everytime I try to connect it shows my buddy list for about 1-2 seconds and then says, "The connection to the host was unexpectedly lost." I don't have aim connected on this computer or any other computer on the network when I try. Any help or recommendations are appreciated.

    Do you have a router in the room ?
    IS your Wireless card set up for Interference Robustness ?
    How are the ports opened in the modem ?

    Go to IChat in the menu bar > Preferences > Accounts.
    Log out of AIM and then use the Server Settings tab
    Set the port to 443.
    Log back in again.

    When I try to use IChat at home on my PowerBook I get "The connection to the host was unexpectedly lost." as soon as I try to connect. This does not happen at work though. It works fine at work.
    I thought it might have something to do with the different ISP's or Router settings on my Netgear wirless router. (At home I connect via ethernet cable.) However it WILL work at home about 5% of the time.
    ANy Ideas to troubleshoot?

    Check that Systrem Preferences > Quicktime > Streaming tab has the drop set to your Download speed.

    Also check iChat > Preferences > Video Section Bandwidth drop down is set to NONE.

    These two will cap iChat if not set properly.
    As Defcom says if these settings are correct you may have a modem that is having trouble wiith forwarding port 5190 on both TCP and UDP protocols.
    Changing the setting he mentions drops the login below any Port Forwarding and NAT involvement on your modem and router.
    Having said that avoiding NAT and Port forwarding by using UPnP is another way around this. Most Netgears have UPnP enabled as default. You don't need Port Forwarding ANd UPnP. Disable the Port Forwarding settings by Unchecking them.
    For others,
    Zyxel devices are prone to needing port 443, as are newer devices that want protocols to be set when Port Forwarding.

  • Netgear + "The connection to the host was unexpectedly lost"

    I have an 802.11g Netgear router. I just got it, previously I had the exact same router, but 1 "version" behind.. aka it was gray and this one is white, but everything else SEEMS identical.
    Everytime I try to connect to iChat now, I get the message:
    "Lost connection with AIM
    The connection to the host was unexpectedly lost."
    My buddy list starts to come up, that message appears, the buddy list closes, and I'm screwed.
    I am set to the DMZ. I am using port 5190, but 5191 and other ports work.. but I cannot use audio or video chatting. My client shows up as "not capable" of audio or video (MBP so I'm capable of both, and did both before this new router).
    Help is appreciated, and I will gladly hand out cookies to anyone who can help.

I will log back on and the people whom I was talking to say they were sending me messages and they didnt get any of the messages i had sent.

  • My hard drive was replaced, I cannot log into my account

    My MacBook Pro fell, and I had it repaired by Micro Center, which amounted to them replacing the hard drive.  Now, I cannot figure how to do anything with my Admin Account (System Preferences --> Accounts --> User (Admin).  I have no password that works when I try to unlock the access.  Micro Center seemed confused that there was a password, and said they do not 'add' passwords (suggesting they never understood my question, and I did not have the laptop with me to show them).  I cannot use Disk Utility from the startup CD, because, well, Micro Center's tech never returned the CD to me when I picked up the Mac after the repair; apparently he must have lost it (I had included it w/ the laptop because it was the only way to turn on the laptop after the hard drive broke).
    Any other suggestions for me to access the Admin account on my own laptop?  I tried typing "Admin" as the password (that worked on a prior mac, I think). Thanks. 
    p.s. It's a Macbook Pro purchased in 2010 running OSX 10.6.3.

    Recommended Action
    Ensure that the Windows Remote Management (WS-Management) service and the VMM agent are installed and running and that a firewall is not blocking HTTPS traffic.
    This can also happen due to DNS issues. Try and see if the server (ms-lab-01.eccsolutions.local) is reachable over the network and can be looked up in DNS. You can ping the virtualization server from VMM management server and make sure that the
    IP address returned matches the IP address locally obtained from the virtualization server.
    If the error still persists, restart the virtualization server, and then try the operation again.

    Backup your VMM database and then check the
    tbl_VMM_Lock table in the
    VMM database to see if it has any locks listed, do this after stopping the System Center Virtual Machine Manager Service.
    If there are locks listed in the tbl_VMM_Lock
    table you can clear them by executing the prc_VMM_ReleaseAllLocks
    stored procedure.

    For the Port Changes (or server names in some cases) you have to be logged out to make changes on the Server Settings pane.

    We are getting the following error. This seems to be after installing the DPM 2010 client. Not sure if there is a connection.

  • CS4 "The connection to the remote host has been lost"

    Suddenly I get the error message (CS4) when I try connecting to remote hosts: "The connection to the remote host has been lost. Click Refresh to reconnect." It is impossible to connect to ANY remote host.
    This happens for all my sites, on remote servers in different countries, so it must be a DW problem. Please advice.

    Have you tried using Passive mode:
    Site Definition > Advanced > click the Passive FTP box and see if that works.

    Hi, I use MQSERIES 5.3 with java 1.4.
    I tried to connect to any queue managers (in a connect phase) using the example code JMS/applet to test simple jobs but everytime I got :
    Reason: 2009 - The connection to the queue manager was lost.\n\
    Action: Verify that the channel name is valid\n\
    \tand that the queue manager is running and retry.
    I checked the name of QM (I know it's case sensitive), I tried to write the server channel name instead of the system default server channel constant... I checked if it was running... I checked the classpath (I known about the properties files MQ try to load - there are in a mqseries/java/lib jar file) well nothing happened.
    I read a reply to a similar question posted some time ago, but I didn't understand why the problem highlighted was to use new session before old one wasn't closed yet (or somethig else) , after that another solution was to use MQSERIES BINDING TCP CONNECTION instead the CLIENT one. I tried but I got other errors...
    I tried to run the mqseries/tools/java/base code with the parameters but I got the same error.
    Any idea about? Please forgot my english...!! ;)

    Just a thought....
    If you use connection pooling and you aren't closing connections properly, the 2009 reason code gets reported. The default max for pool connections is 100 on the SOLARIS implementation of WebSphere MQ. I am guessing it is something similar on other OS versions.
    It appears you are being very thorough, so I would guess you've considered this already.
