The connection was refused when attempting to contact 127.0.0.1:8080

I was having this problem with a previous install of Oracle 10g Express Edition. I followed the steps to manually deinstall since the Windows remove wouldn't work. I then reinstalled XE and am still getting the subject message.
Can anyone help me correct whatever the problem is so that I can run XE on my Windows XP Professional laptop?

sqlplus is included with Oracle XE and it is what I am referring as sqlplus CLI (Command Line Interface) meanwhile isqlplus (the web based sqlplus interface) isn't. I am not sure what do you mean with SQL*Plus, if you mean the windows sqlplus interface it isn' t included with XE either.
Now when you are talking about getting connected to XE by means of IE, meanwhile you have problems connectig using FF. It doesn't seem to be a browser issue, but a browser configuration issue. Most probably IE was already configured and it may have configured a proxy access, meanwhile FF, since it is recently installed, most probably isn't properly configured to work in your environment.
Could you please post the output of the command:
lsnrctl status
to verify Oracle has properly open the http required port to access the XE management interface?

The server may just be busy.
Clear the cache and the cookies from sites that cause problems.
"Clear the Cache":
*Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Offline Storage (Cache): "Clear Now"
"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:
*Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"
Also check the firewall to be sure that it isn't blocking or restricting Firefox in any way.

OracleXE - Connection Refused ....Contacting 127.0.0.1:8080

Hello,
I know that this appears to be a common problem for new Oracle users (me), but I've read through some of the posts on this topic, and it's still not clear to me what steps I really need to follow to troubleshoot this problem, nor why it happens in the first place (perhaps an even more important question).
Any help would be appreciated!

a quick recap.....
1. I was able to connect to the database in the past, with no problems creating and retrieving tables.
2. sqlplus / as sysdba returns ORA-12560: TNS: protocol adapter error,, after which is asks for my username and password again, and when I enter it, it returns the same error again (the username and password is correct for sure)
edited... I have no idea why, but the service is back again. I rebooted the computer (which I had already tried before), and now everythings fine. I truly appreciate everyone's help, I really don't know this happened in the first place.

10g on enterprise linux AS 3 - connection refused when attempting to ...

I recently installed 10g on RedHat Linux Enterprise AS 3. The installation appeared to go seamlessly and immediately afterwards I was able to access SQL PLUs via
http://localhost.localdomain:5560/isqlplus and login as system and perform queries. Shortly thereafter, this stopped working. When attempting to relaunch the browser and direct to this address, I receive the error: The connection was refused when attempting to contact localhost.localdomain:5560. The same error is received for other urls , e.g. ..ulrasearch, em etc.
I checked some of the prior postings that discuss checking configuration files for Apache, etc. I don't seem to have an Apache directory created anywhere although it is referenced in some of the log files.
Rebooting the machine makes no difference.
I am new to 10g and running Oracle on linux so any help is appreciated.

How can I get Firefox to stop causing "The connection was interrupted"?

I've recently upgraded to Firefox 3.6.22 on my MacOSX 10.5.8 system. I connect to the internet via GoogleWifi. That connection now consistently fails immediately after Firefox launches when there is no Cache (I clear it every time I Quit from Firefox). Safari can make the connection, but Firefox consistently reports: "Problem loading page." "The connection was interrupted." Attempting to "Try Again" does no good, it still fails.

This is not helpful because 7.0.1 does not meet my System Requirements. There is no Mac OS X 10.4 version, and I always install the same version on all my systems. I've also read several reports of "problems" with 7.0.1, and wouldn't trust it on my 10.5 (Leopard) system.

Hello, I am using firefox on the web and I keep encountering the same error message that the connection was reset when I try to access webpages. Following the article at https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1024256 did not solve the problem as it only fixed it for google.com and no other website, however when I hold down shift and reload the page it will reload, sometimes in basic html. Operating in safe mode will bring up these pages in basic text without graphics.
Sometimes, it will instead show the message Secure Connection Failed for trusted websites such as news agencies.
I have disabled my themes and add-ons but the problem still persists.
I woud like some guidance on how to go about fixing this problem. Thanks! :)

Check the date and time and time zone in the clock on your computer: (double) click the clock icon on the Windows Taskbar.
Check out why the site is untrusted and click "Technical Details" to expand this section.
If the certificate is not trusted because no issuer chain was provided (sec_error_unknown_issuer) then see if you can install this intermediate certificate from another source.
You can retrieve the certificate and check details like who issued certificates and expiration dates of certificates.
*Click the link at the bottom of the error page: "I Understand the Risks"
Let Firefox retrieve the certificate: "Add Exception" -> "Get Certificate".
*Click the "View..." button and inspect the certificate and check who is the <b>issuer of the certificate</b>.
You can see more Details like intermediate certificates that are used in the Details pane.
If <b>"I Understand the Risks"</b> is missing then this page may be opened in an (i)frame and in that case try the right-click context menu and use "This Frame: Open Frame in New Tab".
*Note that some firewalls monitor (secure) connections and that programs like Sendori or FiddlerRoot can intercept connections and send their own certificate instead of the website's certificate.
*Note that it is not recommended to add a permanent exception in cases like this, so only use it to inspect the certificate.
Boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if that helps.

CF 10 getting random resets : Detail: [Macromedia][SQLServer JDBC Driver]A problem occurred when attempting to contact the server (Server returned: Connection reset).

These resets appear to coincide with a clearing of the cached queries for the DSN from memory, breaking all my sub queries that try to use the initial cached one. I am grasping at straws to discover the reset culprit, the DSN tests always show OK, there is not packet loss at the switch level. If anyone has some suggestions, I am all ears!
The resets are completely random and under no load. My sql 2008 r2 box is set to unlimited connections.

I have seen it suggested to uncheck the maintain connections advanced options but this doesn't seem like a good approach to the problem and will cause more stress on the sql box IMHO.
I have also seen it suggested to enable Validate Connection but documentation on this is a bit sparse...

Since I updated to the newest version of iTunes I have had this error message:
"iTunes could not connect to the iTunes Store. The network connection was refused. Make sure your network settings are correct and your network correction is active, then try again."
Is this most likely a problem with the functioning of my Norton Internet Security 2007 with the new iTunes software?

i have been having this same problem. it also seems like a ton of folks are. i think apple has dropped a huge ball on this one. luckily ther are MANY other places now to purchase music other than itunes. i think their business will fail unless they get on top of issues like this.

I am getting "Connection was reset" when trying to load any of the "My Yahoo" pages. Other sites appear to work, and trying the FAQ suggestions did not work

When I tried to log into my my.yahoo.com page, entering my user ID and password, I got the following error message:

I am able to open the same page in Windows Explore 6.0 and 8.0, and when using Firefox on a different machine

When uploading photos to Photobucket or Imgur or select forums either nothing happens at all or I get the "connection was reset" error. I have no problem uploading photos to other forums and FB. Firewall disabled, Spyware Doctor OFF, UAC off. Win 7-64.

I have cleared the cache and history on both IE and firefox. When I try to upload photos to Photobucket, I get "IOException" and when I try to upload photos to paleoplanet (yuku) I get the "The connection was reset" firefox error. I can upload photos to FB and other forums just fine. I tried to use Imgur instead of Photobucket and I get a similar failure.

"The Connection was reset" Error while attempting to load Hotmail

I've had Hotmail for a few years now and never had a problem with it. A couple of days ago when I went to check my mail it stopped working and I got the "The Connection was reset" error (See attached picture). I've tried deleting everything (Browsing & Download History, Form & Search History, Cookies, Cache, Active Logins, Offline Website Data, Site Preferences), and it still doesn't work. I'm not running any add-ons/plugins or firewall software. I've tried running Firefox in safe mode and tried uninstalling and reinstalling and nothing is working. I've even tried on Google Chrome and Internet Explorer and I'm getting the same errors. Ideas?

For some reason the image didn't post or I'm just to dumb to find it but here's the words:

Also I forgot to add I can access it from my phone and from my laptop it's just my desktop which doesn't load it. I can also ping www.hotmail.com and everything indicates normal. I can access all other sites from my desktop it just wont load hotmail.

I have 2 WFE behing F5 that handles ssl termination too. I have a site abc.xyz.com.
At aam i have
http://abc.xyz.com in default zone and https://abc.xyz.com in internal zone.
AT sharepoint content source; I have both http and https of the above site version.
DNS entry of abc.xyz.com is pointing at VIP in f5 which load balances this site at 2 different ips assigned to each web front end server.
Now when i run search in this content source, searchable item populates but there is error for http request telling An unrecognized HTTP response was received when attempting to crawl this item. Verify whether the item can be accessed using your browser.
Why is this happening?
Is it because requests are coming to f5 as https but search is returning it as http? Will SSL termination removal from f5 solve this issue which i really don't want to do? Will pointing dns entry to two ips in wfe instead of f5 VIP will work?
