• Gargoyle https router logon not working after version 27, when I try and logon it just says the connection was reset. works fine with 27.0.1 must be a bug

I use a Gargoyle quota management router which has web access through https. It works fine with Firefox version 27.0.1 , and has worked for years with no problems. Somewhere after version 27.0.1 a bug was introduced which prooduces the error message "Problem loading page, The connection was reset, The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading" each time I go to the routers address. Reverting to 27.0.1 fixes the problem and it also works fine with Interney Explorer so it is not a firewall problem.

HI techman88,
Thank you for your question. I understand that the password for your router is no longer working in Firefox 27. Please download the new version of Firefox from your working browser and reset the profile.
Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a Clean reinstall. This means you remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:
Note: You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.
#Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
#After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu).
#Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
#*Windows:
#**C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
#**C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
#*Mac: Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
#*Linux: If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see Installing Firefox on Linux. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the Firefox download page, simply remove the folder firefox in your home directory.
#Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
##Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
##Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.
More information about reinstalling Firefox can be found here.
<b>WARNING:</b> Do not run Firefox's uninstaller or use a third party remover as part of this process, because that could permanently delete your Firefox data, including but not limited to, extensions, cache, cookies, bookmarks, personal settings and saved passwords. <u>These cannot be easily recovered unless they have been backed up to an external device!</u>
To reset Firefox go to about:support and and click Reset Firefox. However if there is a saved password in this profile you can manage the passwords under Options > Security> Passwords. Please check this out as well.

w/ this latest version, getting MANY "the connection was reset" pages, plus VERY VERY VERY slow loading. I'm running Windows 7 on a new Dell. What is up w/ that?
I don't know how else to phrase that. I'm a pretty good user, but after defragging, backing up, and getting rid of a bunch of files that "may" slow down performance of firefox, the fact is, "the connection was reset" comes up five or six times a day--AND the browser is going slow as molasses. I haven't had this much trouble since before I got my new dell.

hello whatagem123, it is never a good idea to stick with outdated versions of firefox just for the sake of addons, as this will put the integrity of your system and your the personal data on it at risk - there are various known security vulnerabilities (some of them highly critical) that were fixed in later versions!
so please Update Firefox to the latest version & update your plugins (your java plugin has security vulnerabilities that are actively and widely exploited on the web).
afterwards i'd recommend resetting firefox - this will keep your bookmarks and passwords but will get rid of most other customizations. this might well fix both the issues you've described in your question...

• Experiencing near-constant the connection was reset error.

For about the last 3 months, I've had two seemingly-related problems: 1] "The connection was reset/interrupted" error; and 2] web pages loading in a primitive, odd-looking form. Both used to occur every once in a while, but now they're near-constant, to the point that doing anything online is at best a struggle and at worst impossible. The error is especially bad: makes it extremely difficult to reach a web page, load it completely, or do anything should I ever get there (searches, clicking links, etc.). Might be even worse with some sites than others, but it's hard to tell-- seems pretty bad wherever I go on the web. As far as I can tell, this started when I was still using Waterfox, and updated to 32.0.3; I recently switched back to Firefox in hopes of escaping it, but found the same thing happening there. I've tried the suggestions given in the forums (like clearing the cache, removing cookies, pressing Shift while reloading, pressing Ctrl + F5 [for Windows], etc.), as well as uninstalling and re-installing Waterfox, but nothing works. Since my own computer skills are modest at best, I've pretty much run out of troubleshooting options at this point. What I'm looking for is a solution to this, rather than just ways of coping with it. Does anyone know what's wrong and how to fix it? Will it be solved by the next Firefox update? And is there another browser you can recommend as a replacement for Firefox? I'm really at the end of my rope here; please help!
As of 02/26/15, still having the same problem. I've tried scanning for malware (didn't find any) and configuring Windows firewall for Firefox (made no difference). I've noticed that there's a more accurate description for what I'm experiencing than the one I originally posted: web pages can rarely finish loading anymore, unless they're very short (and often not even then)-- if I wait for them to do so, the error usually occurs. Some are usable if I stop the loading process before the error shows up, but many (most?) won't work that way (not enough ever makes it onscreen). Seems like this site is largely unaffected, but places like rogerebert.com or TV Tropes are pretty much inaccessible to me now. Is anybody still interested in helping me solve this? Because I'm about ready to give up on Firefox for good at this point. Please save me from resorting to Google Chrome or, god forbid, Internet Explorer!

Re: my security software: I use Windows Firewall and Microsoft Security Essentials (also Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, if that helps).
I've now tried the above link's instructions for configuring Windows Firewall to allow Firefox access. It may have helped slightly with the error (which seems to be happening a bit less often); however, the primitive-looking-web-page problem is if anything worse, pages are INCREDIBLY slow to load, and the error remains frequent (can't tell if this possible respite is just temporary, or even mere wishful thinking on my part). In any case, though, my original problem hasn't been solved yet.

• "The connection was reset" errors ColdFusion 10

Hello,
I've searched net and Adobe forums before creating the thread. We have webserver using ColdFusion 10 and IIS 7.5, we are trying to retore our ColdFusion website on it. We are getting following errors:
Error 101 (net::ERR_CONNECTION_RESET): The connection was reset.
on some of the pages. The website is not live now so in order to access it you should modify your hosts file using the line : 198.61.145.21 6figurejobs.com www.6figurejobs.com .
The errror will occur when you try to go to any of the companies in Featured compamies section. example:

etc.
I assume this is ColdFusion/IIS settings thread? Could someone assist us with the errors? I would be beyond grateful for any help/advise.
Thank you in advance!

Very interesting ideas “you have”.  (That quoted part is a reference to the author’s use of “chickity china” as his forum name, for the sake of anyone who’s heard the classic audio clip of a phone prank. )
This will be great if it does indeed solve things for most folks. For those who may not just want to add the XML but understand what it’s doing, I’ve added some commentary here. I’d appreciate if the author would offer his concurrence that I get it right So basically you’re proposing 3 changes in IIS 7+ with regard to how 404 errors are handled.
And for the benefit of future readers, I’d like to add that you (I so wish people identified themselves) are showing it via XML changes, though one could also do them in the interface. In case someone may either be forced to make changes only in the interface, or they want to better understand what he’s proposing below, here’s how it seems (and I have confirmed by making the changes in the interface and confirmed that it ends up creating the same XML).
At a high level, he (?) is changing controls in what would be the “error pages” feature and then the “URL rewrite” feature. (And he starts out showing how to download the URL rewrite feature for IIS, but some may find that it's already installed, or can be added as a role/service. I can't recall which versions have it built-in.)
And he’s also mentioned making the XML changes in the web.config, which is supposing that the change be done for a given site, but readers should know that they could also be done at either the site or server level in the IIS interface using the “Error pages” and “URL Rewrite” features. (It can also be done at the server level in XML but by changing instead the applicationhost.config file. I will not elaborate here on doing that, but will show how to do it in the interface.)
So first, as for the error pages feature, he is doing the equivalent of removing the 404 handler from IIS for the given site, and he is changing the “edit feature settings” for “error pages” to change to “detailed”, for local AND remote requests. That latter point is very important. (That, too, is a subject worth further discussion, but now’s not a good time for me to elaborate.)
Finally, he’s adding a pair of “url rewrite” rules to handle 404’s differently (for http and https). For each rule, it will be a "blank rule" and an "inbound" one. You can see the values (in his XML) that you’d want to put in (if doing it in the interface) for the rule’s name, pattern, and added conditions (and their “input” and “pattern” values). And the “negate=yes” he shows means it’s a “does not match this pattern” check.
Further, logically, the conditions are saying “don’t run the rule if the requested file is the cffileservlet itself or any pattern starting with it, and don’t match if the requested file name is a file or folder name.” I suppose the latter is to simulate a 404 (the file requested name does not exist as a file or folder) and the former (about cffileservlet) is to help solve whatever has been perhaps the real crux of the problem. Can the author confirm? The last condition is about SSL vs not, and note that he creates 2 rules, one for HTTP and one for HTTPS.
As for how well this may solve the 404 handling problem people have had, I can’t confirm right now. I’ve not got the problem myself, but I have a few clients who do and I will point them to this to see if they confirm it solves the problem for them.
Hope that’s helpful for some readers. And thanks again to the writer, if indeed this solves the problem for folks. (Adobe has mentioned in the bug report about this, #3488063, that they are working on a new connector. It may be that after that fix is applied in the future, one would not need the special handling outlined here. I hope anyone working on that in the future will add further comment/confirmation.)
/charlie
Message was edited by: Charlie Arehart I added comment on how the first download link refers to adding the URLRewrite tool, and how some may find that already installed.
Message was edited by: Charlie Arehart Also edited the comment to indicate that when adding rules in the interface, you would choose to create a "blank rule" and an "inbound" one.

• "The Connection was reset" Error while attempting to load Hotmail

I've had Hotmail for a few years now and never had a problem with it. A couple of days ago when I went to check my mail it stopped working and I got the "The Connection was reset" error (See attached picture). I've tried deleting everything (Browsing & Download History, Form & Search History, Cookies, Cache, Active Logins, Offline Website Data, Site Preferences), and it still doesn't work. I'm not running any add-ons/plugins or firewall software. I've tried running Firefox in safe mode and tried uninstalling and reinstalling and nothing is working. I've even tried on Google Chrome and Internet Explorer and I'm getting the same errors. Ideas?

For some reason the image didn't post or I'm just to dumb to find it but here's the words:
<blockquote>"The connection was reset
The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.
The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few moments.
If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network connection.
If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web."</blockquote>
Also I forgot to add I can access it from my phone and from my laptop it's just my desktop which doesn't load it. I can also ping www.hotmail.com and everything indicates normal. I can access all other sites from my desktop it just wont load hotmail.

• The connection was reset message only appearing on mozillas support and addons site

I received an error message involving a proxy when i tried going on netflix. I have the add on "media hint" which redirects the proxy through it, so i uninstalled it intending to reinstall hoping that would fix it, but i never even got that far.

• The Connection Was Reset

Hi. I'm running the latest version of iTunes on a 2011 iMac. For about the last month, whenever I download a purchased TV show or movie and occasionally apps (esp Apple apps), I get a notice that there has been an error. There is no error number listed. It always says 'the connection was reset'. I have to either close iTunes and reopen or try the download again.
Sometimes it takes several times. This is getting quite tiresome and frustrating since I purchase a lot of TV seasons and movies. Is this a known issue and is it related to the newest version of iTunes. I would appreciate some guidance. I have made no changes to any hardware I'm using. Thanks!

If you're using Firefox, try Safari.

• The connection was reset + Secure connection failed

Hello, I am using firefox on the web and I keep encountering the same error message that the connection was reset when I try to access webpages. Following the article at https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1024256 did not solve the problem as it only fixed it for google.com and no other website, however when I hold down shift and reload the page it will reload, sometimes in basic html. Operating in safe mode will bring up these pages in basic text without graphics.
Sometimes, it will instead show the message Secure Connection Failed for trusted websites such as news agencies.
I have disabled my themes and add-ons but the problem still persists.
I woud like some guidance on how to go about fixing this problem. Thanks! :)

If the certificate is not trusted because no issuer chain was provided (sec_error_unknown_issuer) then see if you can install this intermediate certificate from another source.
You can retrieve the certificate and check details like who issued certificates and expiration dates of certificates.
*Click the link at the bottom of the error page: "I Understand the Risks"
Let Firefox retrieve the certificate: "Add Exception" -> "Get Certificate".
*Click the "View..." button and inspect the certificate and check who is the <b>issuer of the certificate</b>.
You can see more Details like intermediate certificates that are used in the Details pane.
If <b>"I Understand the Risks"</b> is missing then this page may be opened in an (i)frame and in that case try the right-click context menu and use "This Frame: Open Frame in New Tab".
*Note that some firewalls monitor (secure) connections and that programs like Sendori or FiddlerRoot can intercept connections and send their own certificate instead of the website's certificate.
*Note that it is not recommended to add a permanent exception in cases like this, so only use it to inspect the certificate.
Boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if that helps.

• Getting "The connection was reset" on several sites

I just updated from FF21 to FF22. Immediately after doing so, I was unable to get into my Comcast email, the Google search page, Facebook, and even the Mozilla community. On some of them (such as Google and Facebook) I immediately got:
The connection was reset
The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.
The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few
moments.
If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network
connection.
If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure
that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.
On other sites (such as Comcast and Mozilla), I can access their home pages with no problem, but when I go to sign in I get that message. Obviously, I haven't tried every page in my bookmarks, but I've tried enough to know that I've got an inconsistent problem.
I do not have this problem with Internet Explorer or Chrome (in fact, I'm using Chrome right now to access the Mozilla community, which adds yet another dimension to the definition of "irony".)
I've tried, to the best of my limited technological ability, to apply the suggestions given in other threads, with no success. (And I'd really rather not have to reload scores of bookmarked pages individually if I can avoid it!)
I have never had any problems with earlier FF versions (and I think I've been using them since about version 4). Is this a glitch with the new release? Should I go back to 21?

I'm having this exact same problem and the pages linked are not helping. I've tried disabling ipv6 and the prefetch, clearing the cache and cookies, reinstalling, and checking for malware. What gives? I was using Firefox fine until I upgraded.

• TMS User Portal: The connection was reset. TMS 14.6.0 + TMSPE 1.4.0.8

Hello,
I am building a small CMR setup in my lab for a customer demo.
The problem is that TMS User Portal is not accessible and shows "The connection was reset". Everything else works fine.
I struggle to find any reference on similar issues. Can somebody please suggest where to start looking?
The setup details:
Windows Server 2012 Std, x64
SQL Server 2008 R2
Thank you in advance,
Best regards,
Dmitry.

I have installed jre-7u51-windows-x64.exe form the Java site. Installation went well, Java console shows 'enabled'. However, if I start TMS locally (127.0.0.1) and navigate to the Conference Control Center - it says:
"Java support has not been detected. This page requires Java to be installed and enabled in your browser. Java may not be installed, or may be disabled in your browser due to configuration or security settings."
What am I missing?
