The correct FAN of the Pavillion DV-2710

I have a HP DV-2710 and need to replace the fan.
The model of the current FAN is :
DC BRUSHLESS KDB0505HB, DC5V 0.27 A, and the DV-2000 Heatsink 431851-001.
The problem is that this fan has only two (02) wires and all fans that I found in the market with the old code has three (03) wires.
Would anyone know if they are compatible? If so, I have to disconnect a wire? Which one?
Tks

Hi I just bought this laptop and it does have Nvidia Graphics 1GB Dedicated RAM.
The specification shown in your link is the correct one as it is from official HP website.
However, I think this is for India specific market.
Well one thing is same in any market 'Made in China'

Is an updrade for the Pavillion dv6-3216us to usb3 available

No, there isn't an upgrade to USB 3.0. Here are the specs for your HP Pavilion dv6-3216us Entertainment Notebook Computer. According to the specs. your computer has 4 USB 2.0 ports. Basically, the only upgradable components in a notebook computer are the CPU, hard drive, memory, and wireless card. And the only easy ones are the hard drive and memory. Please see the HP Pavilion dv6 Entertainment PC Maintenance and Service Guide for more information about your computer.

  • Can the pavillion dv7-6157 be upgraded for gaming?

I bought my son the pavillion dv7-6157nr two years ago and he is having trouble with graphics on the high end games he is playing. They freeze or crash. It has 8G DDR3 SDRam, 2 gen Intel Core i7 2.2 GHz - 3.10 turbo, and radeon HD 6770Ms graphics card. For video memory it says "itchable graphics"...what does that mean?  Can this computer be upgraded in a way that would help the graphics? Is there a graphics card or driver upgrade? Can more graphics memory be allocated?
I'm getting tired of hearing that laptops suck.
    This question was solved.

Here are the original factory specs for the HP Pavilion dv7-6157nr Entertainment Notebook Computer. This model shipped with an Intel Core i7-2670QM CPU and a Radeon HD 6770M GPU. "Swichable Graphics" is a system that depending on some system settings and the graphical load, will "switch" from the integrated Intel HD GPU to the AMD Radeon HD 6770M.
Based on the HP Pavilion dv7 Notebook PC - Maintenance and Service Guide, there is very little room to improve the performance of this computer. The AMD Radeon 6770M 2GB (this is what you have) is the best this system can accept. Maximum memory is 16GB (you have 8GB). And, in theory, the best CPU would be an Intel i7-2860QM, however there is no guaranty of this.
As far as drivers are concerned, please the HP Pavilion dv7-6157nr Entertainment Notebook PC Drivers page. The HP provided drivers appear out of date, however you may not be able to install newer driver directly from AMD or Intel.

  • Can the touchpad buttons on the Pavillion dv7 be replaced or dampened?

I really like my new Pavillion dv7 but the touchpad buttoms are really loud and annoying.  Is there anything that can be done short of using a mouse?  I hope HP is doing something to address this.

The best way to find out would be to take it in to an Apple store for diagnosis (free, repairs are not).

I am thinking of buying a HP Pavillion 500-319na desktop PC, like the spec but my main worry is that its only has a 180 watt power supply, is this enough.

Dear wb2001 & banhien and anyone else willing to contribute,
Please disregard the PSU form factor list at:
    HP 500-319na
In actual fact, the Psu is an internal unit. It seems there has been an error when listing the specs.
It is a 180W internal PSU.
The question remains for anyone willing to help us understand.
How is it possible to run this system with these components with just a 180w PSU at moderate to full load/system resource capacity.
Every single Wattage calculator I've used online (mainstream manufacturers and industry accepted benchmarks) show that this setup needs at least a 220w to 300w psu to run at full load. Have there been comprimises made in some shape or form?

  • What is the motherboard and other hardware for the Pavillion dv2700?

I just got it from a friend who didn't know how to fix it, and I really just need to know the parts I need. Has the battery problem been resolved which was the root to this overheating?

    Hello
You are right. WLAN card in your notebook is Intel (Golan) Intel 3945ABG and the driver can be downloaded from http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/wlan/?page=downloads
As I can see there is version 12.2.0.11.3 available for download.
Download driver for Vista and with exe files extract it to some folder. Later look check this folder and go into folder Vista32Drv.
Drivers are there and install them manually with WLAN properties > install new driver.
    Does this method works?
What so say about BT? The latest version is the newest and you can install it on your Satellite notebook.
What you want to do with BIOS settings exactly? some certain hardware components can be also disabled in device manager.

    Hi,
This HP posted document shows how to remove the existing hard drive but it doesn't show how to add a second hard drive since your PC is not provisioned for multiple hard drives.
Review this thread.  Look at message #9.  There are many different ways to modify a PC as such but the solution was not provided by HP. If you think that this solution would work for your then ask the poster where to obtain the needed parts.

  • Correct fan regulation with a T420s in Kubuntu 11.10 Beta2 - Needed only kernel parametres.

My brand new T420s (Manufactured September 7) is a model 4174P4G with a working Win7 fan regulation. There an idle machine has a fan RPM of ~2000 at a CPU temperature of ~40 C in a 23 C room. Those figures are the same whether I choose to use "NVIDIA Optimus" or only the "Integrated Graphics". If I use the "Discrete Graphics" in Win7, idle temperature of the CPU lies between 45-50 C and the fan runs at ~3500-3600 RPM. This is due to the Nvidia GPU, which also lies at ~45-50 C while idle.
Booting a USB stick with the Kubuntu 11.10 Beta2 Live DVD while doing nothing with kernel parametres, produces a cool fan exhaust with "Integrated Graphics" and a slightly hot one with "NVIDIA Optimus". I did not test much with "Discrete Graphics" since the open source driver failed to work, and the closed source Nvidia driver wouldn't download - from the ubuntu server.
Doing nothing with this modern kernel (K/Ubuntu use a 3.0-something-homebrew) the idle machine had a fan doing 4000 RPM - constantly - while the CPU sat at ~40 C. That is to say, the fan is not regulated (This was observed by the command "sensors" from the lm-sensors package. Modprobe the kernel module "coretemp" if you want to see more info from "sensors"). I can only presume it is an unintended consequence of two choices the kernel developers have made.
To 'revert' those kernel choices we must boot with the kernel parametres --> pcie_aspm=force i915.i915_enable_rc6=1 <-- OBS: Both the parametres must be present to get a working fan regulation.
The parametres deal with PCI Express Active State Power Management and Intels GPU driver. Why the fan is effected by such a double combo? Someone should ask the (probably ACPI) kernel developers about that. As a nice side-effect we also get a much improved battery run-time. That is actually where I stumbled upon the parametres, in discussions about power regressions with newer kernels.
Anyway, using this, a boot with "Integrated Graphics" gives even better thermals than Win7. I was idling at ~37 C and a 1850-2000 RPM fan. With "NVIDIA Optimus" there were short periods of 2000 RPM and long bouts of 3500 at ~45 C in the CPU.
    /MTJ

UPDATE: I was a bit hasty with my comments about the USB ports. I've now actually _installed_ Kubuntu 11.10-final, and plugging in a simple USB mouse does not break fan regulation. Neither does the USB harddrive. BUT, the HD connection raises the temperature somewhere (hidden motherboard sensor?) and that is enough to kick the fan into its 4000 RPM state. Unplugging the HD and idle waiting, waiting... will eventually bring back the sane fan RPMs.
Btw, waiting seems to be the (ab?)normal name of the game in Linux. Win7P has a much quicker fan regulation. Here the fan ramps up its speed even with minimal workloads - like typing this message in Firefox, and it takes a looong time to fall back.
    @ homeyclaus, Hi.
    > I get nothing of the sort with a vanilla T420, all-intel graphics ...
Machine better at thermals probably (slightly thicker, no nvidia card to generate heat etc), and the BIOS is different from the "s" and "si" models. But constant 4000 RPM and fan noise with these models has been an ongoing saga even in Windows. See the massive "T420s Fan noise Issue" thread - takes a full day to read through it, and "T420 fan noise ?" at:
    http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T400-T500-and-newer-T-series/T420s-Fan-noise-Issue/td-p/443569
    http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T400-T500-and-newer-T-series/T420-Fan-noise/td-p/417971
Could be a number of things, but ultimately it is a job for the Lenovo BIOS hackers. The EC (embedded controller) is responsible for regulating the fan,  and the ThinkPads have a long history of being shipped with bad EC code. See the (not updated for newer models) thinkwiki page:
    http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Embedded_Controller_Firmware#Firmware_issues
    > I did notice that my previous laptop with an NVidia GS8400 discrete chip did run the fan pretty high though.
You and me both ;-) On my previous machine (Acer) from 2005 I had to undervolt both the AMD-64 CPU and the NVidia GPU, install extra passive cooling - copper fins, plates and thread - and build an electro-'mechanic' manual fan regulator to get the noise down to a bearable level. But I had fun doing it as well...
    > Are you running the NVidia closed-source X server?
Nope. Haven't gotten to experimenting with that part yet.
    > How is the system handling the switch-over from discrete to integrated graphics?
Handling? Win7P greeted me with something like a 1024x768 screen before I could configure the Intel card. Once done, I saw no difference (except less system heat) from running in Optimus mode - I'm not a gamer or 3D artist. Linux desktop works fine with its OpenGL effects when I set "Use VSync" to get rid of window tearing. I might never need to switch on NVidia again!

  • Brand new macbook pro has annoying fan noises all the time

I just picked up my macbook pro 13'' with retina display from apple store today, and the first time when I start it, it generates constant annoying noise!  no applications run, nothing, from the moment I push the power button, it just give the noises... very disappointed at macbook pro.... Restart it, same, still gives out constant fan noises.... Even the $300, $400 cheap laptops don't have such problem....

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Your Mac may be indexing files from the flash storage, and this may cause that your CPU usage is high. In this case, I recommend you to carry on using your Mac and fans will stop working at maximum speed soon.
Another thing you can try is to reset the SMC > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964 The SMC is the part that manages fans speed, and if it is not working correctly, fans may not be working properly.
If the SMC reset does not work and fans carry on working at maximum speed for a long time, return your Mac and get another one.

  • 2 System fans on the MSI Intel 845PE?

    Hello,
I've just built a computer with the 845PE Max2-FISR, and want to install two system fans in the case (in addition to the CPU fan and the fan that comes with the mainboard).  If I read the manual correctly, there's only one pin connector for the system fan.
Does anyone have experience with installing 2 system fans with this board?  Can I splice the two together, and will the mainboard be able to provide enough power for both through the one connection, or should I be considering another solution?
warning, I'm a newbie at this, so I may have some of the terminology wrong.
    Thanks,
    Matt

    Hi
I have installed 2 fans in series and connected them direct to the power supply by making up a lead with 2 sockets and one plug.  This is a very quiet solution.
It is possible to connect the hall effect sensor to the motherboard to read the fan speed but you must use the correct fan. Dont live in hopes about reading the fan speed on this motherboard which has problems which are well documented in this forum.
I have tried PC alert and speed fan 4 but can only read the cpu fan and system fan speed in the Bios.  (WHEN are MSI going to get round to fixing this.
An alternative would be to use a passive heat sink on the northbridge (Zalman) to make a fan socket spare. (Has any one tried this)

If this happened directly after the upgrade, look into the iPhoto library package, but do not change anything there - be very careful.
A healthy iPhoto Library should look like this, when you ctrl-click it in the Finder and use the commend "Show Package Contents".
First of all - does the iPhoto Library show the correct "fan of Pictures" icon?
