The current search engine in the search box gets 'stuck' in beta 11.

I have various search engines set up to use with my search box. Since beta 11 it occasionally gets 'stuck' on a search engine if I change.
i.e. if I change from Google to IMDB, I can get stuck on IMDB and am no longer able to go back to Google (or any other engine).
Wasn't a problem in earlier betas.
Error console displays this:

Can anyone nail down some steps for reproducing this problem? I don't see it immediately after opening Firefox, but it often appears after browsing normally for a while.
A workaround for me is to open a new window (Ctrl+N). Change the search engine in this new window, then close it.
After doing that, the search bar in my original window works again.

I downloaded ZoneAlarm firewall. It has you install Chrome and choose its search engine when you download. I'd heard these were easily removed afterward. I reset Google in the upper right search bar.
Now Firefox starts OK, but each time I use a tab to open another window the ZoneAlarm search is in the address bar and the center search box, and Google search is in the upper right search bar. How can I get rid of all ZoneAlarm search everywhere?

When I go to google on firefox and search for a topic, I try to open a website and another website (morsearch, clickkick, etc) will open up instead into a new search engine with the same topic . What is this?

I go to google. I type in "plants". A lot of sites will pop up in google. I click on a site (does not matter which usually). The site will then start to switch to a new url from (click kick, morsearch, etc) turning into a new search engine with the same topic and more options. I never get to the page I want unless I type the url directly into the address box. It always comes back with a search engine. So far I have found this only happens while starting in a search engine. When I get into the actual page, everything is fine. I am using McAfee for security and it hasn't caught a virus or anything yet. Help please! Thanks!

How do I get rid of AOL search engine in the main search window? I selected Google search in the search engine at the right side of the page, but I want to use the window in the middle of the page, most of the time. Thanks for any help

How do I change the default search engine in the address bar?

I am trying to change the default search engine in the address bar to Scroogle SSL, I have tried editing about.config but it either goes to Google or on rare occasions it has opened to Scroogle SSL and the address bar shows https://ssl.scroogle.org/(+whatever was entered), while the main window shows a proxy error .
I have an idea that something needs to be added at the end of the URL in about.config to actually make it search.
Can anybody tell me what the specific settings would be to get this working?
I have Scroogle SSL in the search engine list but I want to remove the search box to save space.
Also I cannot get the search to open in a new tab even though browser.search.openintab is set to True.

Hi, having tried both ways myself what you say is true but that is not the source of my confusion.
(In fact I discovered that when I set the same thing up in Opera10.53 everything up to the ? appears on one line in the setup and the Gw=%s on another.)
What I cannot understand is why, if I am using Scroogle SSl search it is opening the OpenDNS guide.
If I use my Scroogle SSL home page it opens a minimal Google search page, the same thing happens if I use the search box. I expected this would be the same as well or am I missing something?
OpenDNS is preferable to Google but not what I was looking for.
Since I started writing this I have just discovered that changing the keyword.URL does not affect this.
Earlier I recovered my system from an image which undid the changes that I had made to about.config, I have run searches both before and after I edited it again. Both times I finished up on OpenDNS?

I'd like Firefox to use Google as the default search engine for the URL search field, instead of Yahoo as I currently have. I've tried to find a place to reset this in Preferences but can't find a solution. Would be very grateful for any advice. Imagine it's simple.
NB: I'm talking of the left search field, not the right search engine one where it's easy enough to define.

I have upgraded my firefox browser. before i did google was the search engine in the center of the home page. Now there is only the firefox emblem above the search bar, and when I try a search frontier is the search engine. I would prefer google. Why have you deleted all the common search engine in the search engine box. It appears that all you want to do is irritate your public!

They have not been deleted, as they are not present in your computer it indicates there is a problem with your system. Try removing the search.sqlite file as shown in the "Unable to search" section of this link - http://kb.mozillazine.org/Unable_to_search_or_add_new_engines
That file contains details about the installed search engines, deleting the file will force Firefox to rebuild the list.

Hmmm. This didn't work. I even re-booted, and Firefox still doesn't show the search engine.
It was actually an update to an earlier engine, and I foolishly removed the old version rather than just updating it.
Is there anything elsewhere (eg. the registry) that might be preventing this?

Yes, search engines can read Dreamweaver library items. The
library only exists on your own hard drive. Once you add the
library item to your pages it's in there as regular HTML.
If you have more than 20 pages on your site, they say SSI is
better, because when you update you only update the SSI. If you
stick with library items each page has to be uploaded every time
the library is updated.

I use Firefox 6.0.1 on Windows 7.
I installed '''Free Desktop Clock 2.37''' from Drive Software, and then Firefox was hi-jacked, though I carefully chose the custom installaion.
Edit: Free Desktop Clock itself does not hi-jack Firefox. It's another program (name forgotten) bundled with Free Desktop Clock that did it, adding a toolbar, changing the homepage, changing the default search engine, etc. Actually, those forced alterations can be changed back easily, such as a resetting of the "keyword.url" pref. So, "hi-jack" may be a description that's too strong.
Anyway, I have managed to clean it up -- unsolicited toolbar, forced homepage, forced default search engine, etc.
But there is still one problem.
In the dialogue window of '''Manage Search Engine List''', which appears when you click the drop arrow on the left of the Search Bar and then click Manage Search Engines, the '''Restore Defaults''' button is disabled (grayed out).
How can that button be re-enabled?

Is Free Desktop Clock still listed? If not this may be because the listed search engines are the defaults, so there may be nothing to restore. If you manually added other search engines, you may have to reinstall those separately. I am having this exact issue. I just downloaded a book and went to open it and got this exact problem.

Error getting License. License Server Communication Problem only mine says Bad Device key after.
