The curse of the windows 7 freeze....ack help
First let me start by saying i have seen the many other post about this very issue and none of which have helped me. I also realize that this post is long, but I am trying to be as detailed as possible. So in hopes of not exceeding bandwith here goes:
I am experiencing the persistant idle freeze. No mouse No task manager kill etc. Hard shutdown only. I do not have to remove my battery for this. The freeze occurs when idle. If i boot the pc and walk away i can come back minutes later and it will be frozen, even at the windows log on screen. So i must run a scan, or typically i run my playlist muted so that it does not freeze. After reading other posts on this topics i have tried such suggestions with no luck. Such as:
1. Updated Bios
2. Updated all drivers
3. Removed Norton, AVG and installed Avira(have done scans with Avira, malwarebytes, CC cleaner...no viruses)
4. I have disabled all hibernation, standby etc and even screen saver.
5. Disabled AeroPeek and have locked taskbar
6. Perfomed disk clean up, check disk, systems scans etc. Harddrive etc all good, no heating issues, etc
Now i cannot do a defrag.... freezes. Cannot run defrag in safe mode.....nothing happens wont come up.
This pc is less than 3 months old, problem start occuring one month after purchase. The only programs i have installed are ym messenger, aol messenger and imvu. All of which work fine. Although i have also noticed that since this problem has occured my IMVU has slowed but that might be do to a new release of imvu itself. (release was loaded with many xtra doo hickeys)
I cannot run process explorer to see what program is causing this, simply because If i run it, it wont freeze...(yep awesome i know)) I also tried though CMD.....same result although i did atleast get some OCX files registered (nightmare number 2)
I cannot remove and reinstall windows 7, since my pc had it pre installed and i did not read the small print that said make a media image when opening this rather large box..... FML...waiting on delivery from toshiba..
Since i use this pc for college....it is vital i have it, and sending in a 3 month old pc, is not..........kosher to my needs. Especially from what i have seen in forums....is a new HD installed problem returning month later.
ok......FML its taken me about 5 hours to type this since i am work and have been interrupted all day. but NO freezes and here is why i think. I Disabled Toshiba Service Center.. mostly because i found running 43k kbs for a useless program to be (insert favorite profanity) and since then i have not froze. So instead of deleting this post I will leave it up and in days to come I will post if i am cured or not, although for 5 hrs now i have not froze. I will also include my system specs and if anyone has any other ideas please feel free to respond. Thank ye (profanity).
1 last thing... has this happened with other brands or is it limited to Win7/toshiba products? Cos ill kick myself in the ass if it is and i didnt buy the HP that was next to my pc

I have Windows 7 Professional and I used to be able to move the curser over the Firefox Icon in the taskbar and it would show me a telescoped view of all open tabs, now it just shows the tab that I'm currently viewing. How do I fix this?

Do you have the option checked for ''Show Tab Previews in the Windows Taskbar''? If not, just go to ''tools->options->tabs.'' You can find more information on what each of these settings do in the Knowledge Base article [[Options window - Tabs panel]].

when trying to change a search query in the text box how do i move the curser to the end of the query that is off screen.
androids default browser comes up with a little blue arrow that i can drag.
i should ssy this is only a problem when entering text in google search box for example and not in firefox search/address bar.We don't have a good way to do that yet. We just landed a thumb cursor on our nightly build. Which if all the tests pass it would show up on the Sept 14th [http://nightly.mozilla.org nightly].

What shortcut to lock the timeline to the curser in the canvas?

Why does it sometimes take 30 seconds for the dock to come up after bringing the curser to the bottom of the page?
Try doing a Dock restart using the following Terminal command:
killall Dock
Log out/in and test. If that doesn't work.
You need to look in your user Library/Applications Support/Dock for the .db. Use the Finder “Go To Folder” command. Enter ~/ Library/Applications Support/Dock. Move the .db to your desktop.
Then try a dock reset.
Applications/Utilities/Terminal enter the command
killall Dock
Log out/in test. If it works okay, delete the .db from the desktop.
If the Dock is the same, return the .db to where you got them from, overwriting the newer ones.
If you prefer to make your user library permanently visible, use the Terminal command found below.
Show User Library
You might want to bookmark the command. I had to use it again after I installed 10.8.4. I have also been informed that if you drag the user library to Finder it will remain visible. -
After "Restoring iTunes Library backup" it wont link to the files in the iTunes folder. I've followed the procedure as described, and the iTunes folder is in the correct location. iTunes lists all my music correctly (albeit with no artwork), but can't locate any of the files.
I've been restoring my iTunes folder from a backup hard drive to a new computer on which I've downloaded the latest iTunes (10.7). If this is a newer version than the one I backed up with could this be the problem? (I had the latest (to my knowledge) iTunes when I backed up the folder about 3 weeks ago, was this version 10.7?)
Or is the version of iTunes (within recent updates) not an issue when restoring a library?

The general method of use is to download the script to a folder of your choice, e.g. your Desktop, Downloads folder or create a folder at ...\iTunes\Scripts. Select a playlist or highlight some tracks in iTunes and then double-click on the script to execute it. If no specific tracks are selected the script will try to work with all tracks in the current playlist. Some scripts offer a choice of track by track confirmation of changes or fully automatic processing of the selection. Many of the scripts can optionally display a progress bar while running.
You are strongly advised to backup your entire library, or at the very least the iTunes Library.itl file, before use. Test the behaviour of your chosen script on a small group of files first to make sure it does what you want before applying it to large numbers of files.
Most builds of Windows will execute *.vbs scripts when you double-click them. If that doesn't happen then you might need to visit the Add/Remove Programs or Programs & Features control panel to enable the Windows Scripting Host. I can track down details if you have issues.
Backing up and restoring data is an area that is often glossed over. Most people don't try to learn much about it until they've lost something important. (Me too )
If your iTunes library was in the usual layout then normally copying the whole iTunes folder from the User's Music folder in the old computer to the User's Music folder in the new one will usually work fine. Ideally this is done before iTunes is installed so that there is no empty library to replace, and all settings are picked up from the old library. This post contains more details.

Opening the DotNet assembly reference window freezes labview
I am running windows XP SP2, I have Visual Studio DotNet 2003 installed I also have DotNet runtimes: v1.0.3705, v1.1.4322, v2.0.40607, and v2.0.50110 installed. Follow steps
Tools-> Advanced->DotNetAssemblyReference... now when the window opens there are 5 assemblies already referenced that point to non existant directories and assemblies. Labview then pins the CPU to 99% and freezes permenetly. This is repeatable every time. So I was wondering a couple things. 1) if labview is freaking out due to non existant directories/assemblie references where are these stored e.g. in the registry or some settings file? 2) This question has nothing to do with the problem but I was wondering when support for events is going to be implemented?There is something in the GAC that LV doesn't like. I don't know how well the b2 uninstall works but that is the only thing I know that can cause the window to lock.
You can try this...Be careful about deleting anything but uninstalling should leave the following directories empty.
1. Uninstall all .NET frameworks from the Add/Remove (1.0, 1.1 and 2.0). Reboot.
2. Go to \Windows\Assembly\GAC via a command window (cmd.exe) (not windows explorer) and see if there are any subdirectories. If you have installed .NET applications, they may have installed components there. If so, you may need to uninstall and reinstall those after this sequence is complete. If that is going to be too difficult, let me know and I can walk you through a more involved process. Hopefully that won't be necessary.
- You should be able to delete the Assembly directory at this point. You should also be able to delete the c:\Windows\Microsoft.NET directory also. Again, check to see if there is anything left in there before deleting.
3. Install the 1.1 framework.
4. Try LV again.

IChat can't communicate with the AIM account error window! please help!
Hello, I have been trying to connect to my AIM account via iChat and for some reason it doesn't let me. A window saying the following appears:
"iChat can't communicate with the AIM account "name of account".
"An undefined AIM socket error has occurred."

An @Mac.com name is a valid AOL/AIM Screen Name.
Any Issues and the AIM servers will say the AOL/AIM name or password is incorrect.
As I said earlier, there can be issues if when you create an @Mac.com or even a MobileMe account Apple lets you create passwords of up to 20 characters (I think).
The issues is the AIM Server can check the name with Apple but don't parse Passwords that have more then 16 characters (You have to change the Password to 16 characters or less).
There is also another issue.
Creating a Name at the @Mac.com page allows you to use spaces as valid characters (As In ralph [email protected]) but again the AIM servers cannot parse these names as Spaces are not Valid at AIM
Use iForgot to check the name. You can also change passwords via this.
Use the On Line option and answer the security questions.
That should confirm whether the account/Screen Name/Apple ID works.
Then go to this page https://settings.aim.com/
Use the Sign In option top right.
Enter your @mac.com name and password (It will read AOL at the next page to do that)
If it works properly then you should be returned to the page I linked you to but it will now have your Screen Name showing above the menu area.
This will confirm that the @Mac.com name is accepted as a AIM Screen Name.
If you are still having issues, go to the iChat Menu > Preferences > Accounts
In the Account Info tab make sure you are logged out (Deselect "Use this Account")
Go to the Server settings tab
Change the port from 5190 to 443 (it may also pay to deselect SSL)
Log back in again.
Deleting com.apple.ichat.AIM.plist may help.
If the issue is an incorrect password you may need to delete the entry from the KeyChain (Use KeyChain Access in the Applications/Utilities folder)

With all other applications running maximized (full screen) the Windows taskbar pops up from the bottom when the cursor is moved to the bottom of the screen, but now with Firefox. Why not, and how do I fix this?
Are you in fullscreen or maximized for Firefox?
There is an entry that show toolbars when in fullscreen you can check if its on in the about:config page, but if you have never been there before do not worry about this troubleshooting step. (I do not know if you have or not :-))
With those hypothesis it is possible to see if this happens in Safe Mode if you have any add ons or extensions that may affect this feature: [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode]] -
Too much on the desktop caused imac to freeze, please help!!

I accidentally deleted my entire iTunes library from my iMac.
When I realized I went to the trash and opened to see if my files were there.
They were.. all 4372 of them.
I highlighted them all in trash and without thinking dragged them all onto the desktop.
The iMac stopped responding and I did a manual shut down using the power button.
I left it for a few minutes and then started it up again.
When it starts up the mouse can be moved around the screen but is unable to select anything.
Cant use keyboard to execute any commands either.
It's like it's on overload trying to load up all the desktop icons for my iTunes files.
As soon as I try to click on anything i get the spinning color wheel and it stays like that.
What can I do?? I don't want to loose all of my iTunes library but is there anyway to move files without permanent delete?

Automation Track Node Use Sends the Curser to the Top of the Song
Hi,
Has anyone experienced placing an automation node to change a volume point on a track and then when it's placed having the curser go to the very top of the song after each automation move on the track? Strange.
Thanks for ny help.Every once in a while, while working on, let's say, volumn automation on a track, Logic freaks out toward the end of the song and everytime I click or move a node, the window jumps back to the begining of the song.
@ Bernie: I'm not sure, but I think I was able to stop it from doing this by selcting a group with the automation selection tool, and they deselecting it.
I think the automation select tool might have been involved with causing the glitch in the first place. -

That will insert one row each time it is executed. Maybe you are confusing fields (which are actually table columns) with table rows. -
Kernal panic / grey window freeze/restart help
Hi, here it is from the panic log. Anyone know what this problem is? I've got a 512 RAM card that is showing as 256 in the memory section of the system profile/about this mac, so maybe that piece of RAM is the problem. Any help would be much appreciated - Thank you.

I've got a 512 RAM card that is
showing as 256 in the memory section of the system
profile/about this mac, so maybe that piece of RAM is
the problem.
If you're sure it's supposed to be a 512MB card, it's a good bet that's your problem. You should try running the Apple Hardware Test from your original installation discs. Run the extended test if you don't get an error on the short one.
You can also try reseating and swapping the RAM around. Or just remove one stick and see how it runs.
