    Hi,
    Try saving your settings as a Preset by clicking the Preset drop down and then select Save Current Settings as a Preset.
    Next try changing the settings by selecting the saved preset.
    That allow saving the settings for a specific printer, I assume it may also allow selecting these settings for another printer.

    How to fix this?

    Yes, you need your own copy of WinXP (I used the one that came with VPC) but I'm afraid I have some good news/bad news to report. The good news is that WinXP does run a bit faster than VPC did on my dual processor G4 - the bad news is that XPs hardware detection DOES NOT - and I could find no way t force it - to recognize any USB or Firewire devices. Because I use Windows primarily to connect to USB GPS devices, this was a real letdown (and would be to users who need to, oh, I don't know, PRINT from Windows).
    I'd love to hear from anyone has Windows actually functioning under OpenOSX Wintel - the website only goes as far a getting it to install and running Explorer (which I was able to do). I also had numerous keyboard problems: sometimes Windows would accept no input from the keyboard, sometimes it would reverse the caps lock key (on produced lowercase letters, off all uppercase). It also does not recognize the Apple Mighty Mouse as a two-button mouse. A number of these problems were - somehow - fixed by VPC which I never had a problem with when it came to USB devices (at least it DOES recognize a 'network card' and I can use Internet Explorer - whoopee!).
    I'm going to play with this some more before throwing in the towel but I'm not so certain that I'm going to work towards the dual boot solution until I hear that Windows and Windows apps actually function - like being able to print or recognize a USB device.
    Just getting Windows to install and run is of little good if it doesn't actually provide simple functionality.
    I may copy and paste my original post in the Windows compatibility forum - see if any of those folks have found a working solution,

  • When changing the default printer in windows vista why doesn't the default printer change in firefox (firefox was running when the default printer was changed)?

    I am not sure whether or not this is a bug or a feature, but I was running firefox on my laptop. I then went to add a new printer and set it as a default printer. When I went back to firefox to print, it did not automatically choose that new default printer as the printer of choice. I then had to choose the new printer manually to print to. This is merely a convenience issue but thought I would bring it to the attention of Mozilla in case.

    Hello bradleesargent
    as i can see the note in the kb article ([https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-print-websites#w_print-window-settings Print window settings]) ''The default printer is the Windows one. When a web page is printed with the selected printer, it becomes the new default printer.''
    do you have your previous printer also, or you uninstall the previous printer and then install the new one and make it default ?
    I think firefox must be closed when you set up a new printer. Do you have it open when set up the new printer ?
    thank you

  • How do I set the default print margins for ALL printers in mozilla.cfg

    How do I set the default print margins for ALL printers in mozilla.cfg, even ones that are not yet installed / connected to the computer?
    I'm trying to install firefox with MDT and apply certain print options, but the printers themselves are connected at a later stage so the print.printer_myprinterhere cannot be used.

    Best answer I could find: [https://mike.kaply.com/2012/03/16/customizing-firefox-autoconfig-files/#comment-132668]
    If you can figure out how to add the printer name, this can be used to lock the margins.

    Hi @darshan9 ,
    I see that you are experiencing issues setting the default printer for users and you are unable to print over the network.
    I would be happy to help you.
    Do you mean individual computers setup with the printer over the network users or one computer with multiple users?
    Do you have Admin Rights on the computer to make changes?
    What is the full name and product number of your printer? How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?
    Download and run the Print and Scan Doctor. It will diagnose the issue and might automatically resolve it. http://www.hp.com/go/tools>Using HP Diagnostic Tools for HP Printers in Windows.
    I would suggest you to check if you have a different user account or from an administration account.
    I would also suggest you to create a new user account and check if you are able to set the printer as default.
    Create a user account. Create a user account.
    If you are still having issues run the Fixit Tool. Diagnose and fix printer and printing problems automatically.
    What were the results when you ran the Print and Scan Doctor? (did it print or scan, any error messages)
    If there is anything else I can help you with, just let me know.
    Have a nice day!

  • How to have "black and white only" be the default print option

    Just installed a new printer and would like to set it up so that the default print option is black and white only. How do I do this?

    Can't find this anywhere. I'm brand new to Macs so I
    might need more detailed instructions.
    I have an HP Photosmart C6100 by the way.
    Not sure which post you are responding to since you replied to yourself
    Every printer is a little different so you may have to do some searching through the settings. I don't have an HP Photosmart C6100 here so I can't say for sure where the setting is for that printer.
    The closest thing I have to that model printer here is an HP OfficeJet 6310
    In that model you choose Paper Type/Quality
    In drop down menu under Color you select Gray Scale
    Then you can still save the preset as I described in my previous post.
    If the C6100 is different than that you may just have to search through option pages and explore the drop down selections.
    Which I could be more specific, but they are all a little different.

    Welcome to the Community!
    I would love to help you with the printing issue you're having, since the Windows 8.1 that was done.
    Please run the Print and Scan Doctor. Write me back with the results or post a screen shot of the results and I will have a look at them.

  • CR XI R2 Sp6 - How do you change the default printer used by the Viewer?

    CR XI R2 Sp6
    .NET
    VS2005, C++
    The app selects printer for the job as m_Report->PrintOptions->PrinterName = ss_Device;
    This works nicely for printouts to the printer, but is ignored by the viewer. There, the machine default printer is always selected when I hit the print button.
    Found this which is sortof similar:
    http://forums.sdn.sap.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1275149
    Is there any way to fix this? If no, then is it fixed in more recent versions of CR?

    All of that above can be changed at runtime, but you'd somehow need to figure out what the default printer driver is on each machine and then assign it to the report.
    Yes,but that is exactly what I do. The app normally uses the Windows default printer just as any C++/MFC app will do. On the file menu there is an option to select printer which calls CWinApp::OnFilePrintSetup(); which sets the application default printer setup.
    In the app there is a function to retrieve the default printer:
    CString CLpApp::GetDefaultPrinter()
         PRINTDLG     pd ;
         CString          printer("Failed") ;
         pd.lStructSize = (DWORD)sizeof(PRINTDLG) ;
         BOOL bRet = GetPrinterDeviceDefaults(&pd) ;
         if (bRet)
              // protect memory handle with ::GlobalLock and ::GlobalUnlock
              DEVMODE *pDevMode = (DEVMODE*)::GlobalLock(m_hDevMode) ;
              printer = pDevMode->dmDeviceName ;
              ::GlobalUnlock(m_hDevMode) ;
         return printer ;
    When I print, I do:
    void CSkrivDlg::StartReport(CLpReportJob^ jobb)
         jobb->SelectPrinter("",theApp.GetDefaultPrinter(),"");
         if(m_tillSkrivare)
              jobb->OutputToPrinter(1);
         else
              jobb->OutputToWindow("Fönsternamn", 0, 0, 200, 200, 0, NULL, NULL);
    This works correctly for OutputToPrinter(1);, but not for OutputToWindow() which are simply wrappers for the CR functions:
    bool CReportJob::OutputToPrinter(int nCopies)
         bool rc = true;
         try
              m_Report->PrintToPrinter(nCopies,true,0,0);
         catch (Exception ^e)
              TRACE("
    %s",e->Message);
              m_LastError = e->Message;
              rc = false;
         return rc;
    // OutputToWindow()
    // a,b,c,d = Fönsterkoordinater eller noll för default
    // style = flaggor för fönsterposition
    // window = fönster efter vilket vi dyker upp
    // child = rapportfönstrets handle om vi vill ha den
    bool CReportJob::OutputToWindow(CString Namn, int a, int b, int c, int d, int style, CWnd* window, CWnd **child)
         bool rc = 0;
         CString title="Dummy1";
         title = m_Report->SummaryInfo->ReportTitle;
         CFloaterDlg *Floater = new CFloaterDlg(NULL);               // TODO: Get window
         Floater->Create(IDD_FLOATER_DLG, NULL);
         if(Floater != NULL)
              m_Report->ExportOptions->ExportFormatType = CrystalDecisions::Shared::ExportFormatType::PortableDocFormat;
              Floater->m_Viewer->ReportSource = m_Report;
              Floater->m_Viewer->Zoom(theApp.m_ScreenZoom);
              // Sätt fönsterrubrik från rapporten
              Floater->SetWindowText(title);
              // Puffa på så att den kan ändra storlek på Crystal-kontrollen
              Floater->Size();
              // Visa fönstret om det är stängt
              if(!Floater->IsWindowVisible())
                   Floater->ShowWindow(SW_SHOW);
              rc = true;
              if (child!=NULL) *child=Floater;
         else
              AfxMessageBox("Kunde inte skapa fönster för utskrift",MB_OK);
              rc = false;
         return rc;
    Floater is simply a dialog that holds the Viewer control.
    For some reason does the Viewer not obey the printer selection done in the report

  • Preview Default Print Setting "Fit to Page" Problem

    Preview.app in Snow Leopard has removed the option to print without scaling, and recreating this behaviour with the remaining options is quite complex and requires 4 extra steps.
    Steps to Reproduce:
    1. Open a document in Preview.app, such as a PDF, of a known paper size.
    2. Select 'File' > 'Print…'
    3. Change the paper size to one where the default scale value with the default 'Scale to Fit:' 'Print Entire Image' is not 100%. This step is often unnecessary, as many documents will require reduction to include margins, even if the paper sizes match.
    4. Select 'Scale:'
    5. Select the scale % value.
    6. Delete the scale value.
    7. Input '100' in the scale value box using the keyboard.
    8. Press tab to avoid radar #7256827.
    9. Click 'Print'
    Expected Results:
    Click on a single option to print at 100%, if by chance that wasn't the default option. This would have been one step.
    Actual Results:
    Does what it says. Steps 4 through 8 are necessary to print at 100% in most cases.
    Regression:
    This behaviour was as expected in OS X 10.5.x and previous versions, or we wouldn't be having this discussion.
    Notes:
    Printing at 100% is the only scaling that is common enough to warrant a button to make it an easy one to get to. Preview.app itself even has an 'Actual Size' toolbar button, but has removed this function for printing.
    Graphic designers (and other professionals) or specific applications (such as printing on pre-cut or pre-printed paper, labels, or DVDs) can commonly require printing at 100%, and using PDF to distribute documents makes Preview.app the most logical choice for many printing jobs.
    Having something other than 100% as a default can cause expensive media to be ruined by a mis-scaled printout, unless these 4 (+1) steps are followed every time.
    Most other apps, including Safari, Mail.app and TextEdit default to no scaling, making Preview.app an exception.
    I am an architect and this is really annoying!
    Does anyone know a workaround?

    Sorry no workaround as yet...
    I too am now sick of the amount of expensive paper I have wasted due to the Preview app default print setting of 'Scale to fit'.
    - No option to print at 100%, you have to manually input this information.
    - No way to change this default in preferences, you can change the opening viewing size of a doc to 100% though.
    - Doesn't remember the previous settings if you decide to reopen the doc and print another copy.
    I also found that if I attempted to print an A4 doc with bleed and crop marks, it would set the default paper size to A4 and the annoying scale to fit would be set to 83%. If I then changed the scale by typing in 100% but don't hit enter for fear of the print starting and then simply use the drop down to change the paper to A3 and then change the orientation and then hit enter it ignores that you have changed the scale and prints your doc at 83% on A3 - Brilliant!
    It's a shame to say that I will be going back to acrobat for pdfs!
    If you can't put a 100% scale radio button on the print dialogue box either allow people to change the default in prefs or even better allow the presets to control paper size and scale of printing!

  • Printing Documents through the Default Printer

    I have come across a problem, where it is getting difficult for me to enable my swings application to print a paper through the default printer which is installed. What should i do in this regard?

    Actually you just have to write
          // Create a job
          PrinterJob job = PrinterJob.getPrinterJob();
          // Transmit the printable objet to the job
          job.setPrintable(yourPrintableObject);
          // Print the job
          try {
             job.print();
          catch(PrinterException e) {
             System.out.println("PRINTING ERROR: "+e.getMessage());
          }Of course, you need a default printer set on the system...
    Hope this helped,
    Regards.

  • Default printer setting

    I have a Canon printer set up as the default printer on my Mac. I also have a Dymo label printer that I use occasionally.Althought the Canon printer is the default printer whenever I choose to print from the Dymo printer (using the printer dialogue box - not changing any default settings) the computer never defaults back to the Canon printer. The next time I print, I must remember to open the dialogue box and change it back to the Canon. I usually forget and end up running out a bunch of expensive labels as the computer trys to print a document to the label printer.
    Is there another setting that actually makes the computer default back to the default printer after a certain period of time?
    I am using Mac OS 10.7.4 and have the latest firmware and software updates for both printers.

    Before I print anything I have a question. When
    printing and selecting a printer does if no printer
    is selected does it take the default printer from the
    computer being used? Depends on the application.
    Some desktop apps allow you to choose from among all the printers installed on the client machine.
    This assumes that you have a printer installed on the computer in question. Do you? One is designated as the default. If the app doesn't prompt you, chances are good that it's using the default. (But it's not guaranteed.)
    Our office has over 200
    printers and unfortunately this is the first time we
    have had to print anything. Typically it is
    paperless. Thanks for the help
    E.C.I'll assume these are networked printers and not attached locally to a particular machine. Did you add the printer you wanted by searching on the network for a shared server?
    200 printers in a paperless office? That's a lot of equipment sitting around doing nothing.
    What operating system are you talking about?
    What does any of this have to do with Java?

  • Pages does not select the default printer.

    I have an IMac, 2.8 GHz, running version 10.6.5 connected to a Canon MX860. Under Print & Fax preferences, I list two printers. The first is Canon MX860 USB and the second is Canon MX860 Wireless. The default is set for the wireless. On all applications except "Pages", the default printer is the one selected. But, PAGES always selects the USB one. Is this a bug in PAGES, or is there something I can do?

    Yvan, not wishing to incur your ire... I have a similar problem and went through pages of discussions generated by the search function. I cannot find a thread matched with exactly with what I believe to be the issue here. My default print setting is wireless and all apps respect that including Pages (Version 09) generic templates. However, when I print from a Pages template that I created, it always defaults to the USB connection of my printer - and I do not leave the USB cable plugged in. I have tried to modify the template by opening it, File, Page Setup, Attributes, Format for wireless printer - save template.... Yet it still defaults to the unconnected USB version of my printer. Even doing page set up and then trying to print immediately, it defaults to the USB version. My printer is HP Photosmart C4585.
    Yvan if you know of the right thread, apologies but could you point me to it please?
    Many thanks for your patience

  • Send 10g reports directly to the default printer of the client machine

    Hello..
    We are using Oracle DS10g and Forms & Reports service 10g. When the user clicks on the report button I want to send the report directly to the default printer installed in the client machine. In this case the printer name may vary and I cannot parameterize the DESNAME parameter. How do i know what is the default printer? Any clue as to how can achieve the desired result?
    Thanks

    If you use webutil in your shop. You can use the CLient_win_api_environment.read_registry to get the default printer. In the run_report_object, desname gets set to the default printer.
    This can also be found in metalink.
