I have an iPhone 4S and it has been stuck in recovery mode for whatever reason. I have tried using data recovery software that can turn my phone to normal mode but when it tries all my phone does in turn off and then on again, back into recovery mode. I can't use iTunes to recover my phone because it won't let me do it without updating and recovering the iPhone. When I do this it gives me the error "This device isn't eligible for the requested build"
Is there any other way I can restore my phone from backup without getting this error?https://discussions.apple.com/search.jspa?facet=content&type=discussion&sort=rel evanceDesc&showAnsweredFirst=true&q=This…

"this device isn't eligible for the requested build."
I've just changed carrier and got a new sim card. My iphone 3gs will not work with my new sim because it is locked to my old carrier. I called my old carrier and they removed the lock from the phone and said all i had to do now was restore the phone and i'm good to go. I know the sim is not faulty because it works fine in my old iphone 3 which i am stuck using at the moment.
When i try to restore my 3gs i get the error message: "...this device isn't eligible for the requested build."
I've never had a problem before restoring an iphone, what gives? how do i fix this?
thanks!!Can you get a Wi-Fi connection on your iPhone?
I got an Internet connection on my phone, went to SETTINGS --> GENERAL --> SOFTWARE UPDATE and updated my Software wirelessly (no iTunes involved).
When I connected my phone to my Computer again and iTunes popped up, it showed that my iPhone software was up to date. Then I could restore to an old back-up. -

Hi
I've been trying to uodate my iPhone to iOS5 since last night. Initially, I kept getting the "Internal Error" messages since I'm assuming that the server was busy. A little later, that changed to the "Server is unavailable" messages. Which is when I gave up trying yesterday.
I've now resumed my efforts since today morning & I've started getting a different message: "The iPhone could not be restored. This device isn't eligible for the requested build." I have no idea why this is happening. I've updated my iTunes & OSX Lion to the newest versions.
Any help would be appreciated.
iPhone 4 (OS 4.3.5 8L1)
OSX Lion (10.7.2)
iTunes 10.5 (141)
Thanks.
dOK so problem solved. Turns out that I had used Tiny Umbrella last night to kick the phone out of recovery mode when it got stuck during one of the attempted upgrades. And I forgot to uncheck the "set host to Cydia" option before quitting.
All done. iOS5 is here! -

Whenever I try to do a update/restore to iOS 4.3.3 I get an error saying "this device isn't eligible for the requested build." This only started happening after I installed Xcode to enable the multitasking gestures, while on 4.3.2. Thanks.
Try manually downloading the update.
Here is the update for the iPad 1;
