"The disk could be not read from or written to"

my iPod has never worked well, everytime I would add some more songs, iTunes would delete all my music (I got past that by choosing to manually sync it)... But I could always manage to transfer some songs to it(after reading the whole Apple support section and doing the 5 R's a billion times). This was before updating my iPod and iTunes... Now I'm almost throwing this "demoniac artifact" through the window. The problem is this: first, I got a message informing that my iPod needed to be restored and blablabla, so I restored it, after that I tried to transfer my music to it and got this message "Disk could not be read from or written to"(or something like that). So, I didnt give up on the first try, I tried several times to transfer stuff and got the same message, there was even one time that I got some weird error msg with some numbers that I dont remember. So I searched the error number in the Apple site and to my surprise(or not) there wasnt any error with that number!!! Now I keep getting the same msg, even after having restored it, reisntalled stuff and reseted it for 9891278108124 times. If any of you know how to solve my problem, I would be VERY VERY grateful.

This is a general problem with the iPod Nano...seems there are certain files... that it simply objects to... I wonder iif the iPod is compressing the data...and certain songs/bytes do not compress...and therefore fail. The song that was failing for me was "Creme Ibiza Classic (CD2) Floor Essence"...while I could play it off my hard drive on the pc no problem...try as I might it wasn't going to copy.
Apple do have a problem...that the numpties who thrive on 5r's must overcome.

  • "Ipod" failed. Disk could not read from or written to

HELP me! I FINALLY got Itunes to recognize the Ipod, but when I go to auto fill the Ipod, I get an error:
"Attempting to copy to the disk "IPOD" failed. The disk could not be read from or written to.
Anyone have any ideas? Please help me

I happen to be in Best Buy yesterday and went to the Geek Squad help desk and told them about this error. They told me that the Ipod Shuffle is probably corrupted, some kind of memory or something inside.
I got the receipt from my dad, so I'm going to go exchange it today. I hope I have luck with the new one tonight.

  • "Disk couldn't be read from or written to" error -Apple Suport Page no help

Error: "Attempting to copy to the disk <iPod name> failed. The disk could not be read from or written to."
Symptoms: First few (5+) songs will load onto the iPod at normal speed...then it will start to slow down until it gets to a snails pace and then the error above shows up. If I then attempt to upload the song that the error occured on it will load fine until ~5 songs later when the same problem is repeated.
    I've already checked:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?atnum=301267
    I've already:
    Updated Windows
Gotten my iPod replaced once only to find the same problem
Checked to see if it works (i.e. the songs upload to iPod) on another computer with using the same cord - It worked properly
    Updated my USB drivers
Used other devices in the USB Port to see if the port itself is working.
    Tried it with different files
    NONE OF THESE SOLUTIONS WORKED

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
The main thing I can say to do is download Quicktime Standalone. This same problem that other people have had was solved by this. I highly suggest giving it a try.
If you're having any problems with the download, go here:
Trouble installing iPod, iTunes, or Quicktime software in Windows
Hope this will solve it! Again, I definetely recommend it, because that's an answer to this same problem.

  • ITunes Error when using Nas drive..Error occurred while converting the file the disk can not read from or written to

This is the error I get only when trying to convert a file to AAC.  I have my itunes library stored on a network drive it all works fine I can add files sync files with my devices exc.  Only when I dry to convert a flie from mp3 to AAC do I get this error.  Any one have any suggestions.
    Thanks

I wonder if the disk being referred to is actually your iPod which is not plugged in. Maybe something has stuck thinking the iPod should be there.
Try completely removing all the iTunes related programs according to this method.

Restart you PC and see if startup improves.
If it doesn't improve you need to consider the possibility that there is something else going on.
If The problem goes away, hopefully a fresh install will be OK.

  • I purchased some music from the store on my iphone, but itunes won't load those tracks into my library!  It comes up with error 36 (the disk could not be read or written to) but I am able to get apps that I have purchased.  What's up with that??

I have 4 tracks that I purchased from the itunes store, 2 audio and 2 music videos.  I used my iphone to make the purchase.  Unfortunately, when I got home and tried to transfer them to my itunes library, it tells me that the disk can't be read frrom or written to.  This it totally bogus as I am able to download apps that I purchased at the same time as the music.
How do I fix this problem without having to totally rebuild the library yet again?

I'm guessing this is a problem unique to me as there have been no replies at all...  Thanks a bunch folks

  • 'Disk cannot be read from or written to' when syncing iPhone 3GS

    Hi everybody,
I have had a problem for a few weeks now, and can't find a solutions to it. My iPhone 3GS won't sync music anymore. It gets stuck at the first song, sometimes it can copy a very few and then crashes, with iTunes displaying the message "Attempting to copy to the disk iPhone failed. The disk could not be read from or written to." I found this article but none of suggested procedures gave results http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1207. What is weired is that Mac OS crashes with iTunes for a few seconds, not only iTunes.
Maybe sou should also know that I don't only have problems syncing my iPhone to my Macbook Pro, I also have the same kind of problem with Time Machine. It gets stuck during the backup and displays the same kind of a message. At first, I thought it was a USB problem, but after having run the test from the DVD "Applications", the USB ports don't have any problem. I have the feeling that it might be a software problem.
I'm thankful in advance for any suggestion !
    Have a nice evening,
    Damien

I have the exact same frustrating problem. It starts to sync and then get's stuck on some song and says it could not sync because the disk could not read from or written to.
I've rebuilt my hard drive from my time machine and reinstalled the combo OSX update as well as reinstalled the latest iTunes. Still won't sync any of my iPhones or iPad...
Anyone have an idea whats going on?
    Thanks

  • IPod Error Message: "The disk could not be read from or written to."

    Hello!
I was syncing my sister's video iPod (30GB) and this error message pops up "Attempting to copy to the disk. "SARAH'S IPO" failed. The disk could not be read from or written to."
I have restored it three times already, but once it starts putting the music and files back onto the iPod it pops up with that error message. I have updated to the latest version of iTunes and iPod software available. My OS is Windows XP.
Is this something serious? Will I be able to fix it myself or will I need to send it in to be fixed by Apple? Will that be expensive? We didn’t get the Apple replacement plan. D=
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance. ^_^

Okay I went thru that entire list and here's what I got...
    (1) My OS is XP and is running fine.
    (2) I've updated my windows
    (3) I don't know of any software that might be interfering.
    (4) There are no damaged files.
    (5) My Windows hard-drive is not damaged and I've tried restoring my iPod's disk thru iTunes but it still doesn't work.
    (6) I don't have an iPod photo and I can't find the folder to delete the cache if if I did.
    (7) The USB cord is firmly connected into my USB port and my iPod
    (8) My music is on my external hard-drive so I need to keep 3rd-party hardware connected
    (9) I will try another USB cord to see if that works.
Is there anything else that I can do? Can Apple fix this?
    Please let me know.

  • 9.1.1 sync problems: "The disk could not be read from or written to."

Using OSX 10.6.3 and upgraded to iTunes 9.1.1. Once I did, I keep getting the following error message: "Attempting to copy to the disk [my ipod] failed. The disk could not be read from or written to." This is followed by another error message: "iTunes could not copy {name of file} to the iPod {iPod name} because the file could not be read or written."
I tried deleting the files mentioned in the error message, but then the message returns with the name of a different file. At this rate, I'll be deleting all my files!
I tried checking everything on the Knowledge Base article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1207
I tried restoring my iPod (twice), but it didn't help.
All my software is up to date. I haven't added any new software since I upgraded iTunes.
NOW...when I try to sync my iPhone, I get the same error message.
What's going on, and can anyone help?
This is very annoying since I can't sync my iPhone which I need or my iPod which I would like.

check if you have read & write permissions for your iTunes music folder. in finder, right-click on it and +get info+. unlock the little padlock (you may have to enter your admin password) and change the permission settings. next, click on the little gear-shaped icon and +apply to enclosed items+ like so
you may also give everyone read & write access. if this doesn't help, try the same on your iTunes folder (not just the iTunes music folder).
if that make no difference, try reinstalling iTunes. click here and follow the instructions. next, download a fresh copy from here: http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/.
you might also try to _*remove and reinstall the Apple Mobile Device Service*_

  • Error when syncing iPod: The disk could not be read from or written to!!

I have an iPod mini which worked fine on my Windows XP.
Recently got Windows Vista and I downloaded iTunes and my put my music in the library.
When I plugged my iPod into the Vista, it said it was syncing all the songs to my iPod.
After about 3 hours, whilst syncing the last song a notice came up saying, 'Attempting to copy to the disk failed. The disk could not be read from or written to.'
I restored my iPod and reinstalled iTunes but the same thing happend.
I decided to plug my iPod back into the Windows XP, where I've had no problems. When I did this and started snycing all the songs, I got the notice come up again.
'Attempting to copy to the disk failed. The disk could not be read from or written to.'
I haven't been able to use my iPod now for about 5 weeks because I cannot solve the problem so any help will be much appreciated!
    Thanks

  • The ipod cannot be updated. The disk could not be read from.

The ipod cannot be updated. The disk could not be read from or written to.
This message appears every time I try and update my ipod or put photos on. I also get this message:
An error occured while updating the default player for audio file types. You do not have enough access privileges for this operation.
    WHAT DO I DO???????

Perhaps check for corrupted files--I had this issue with a messed up track/ file, and that kept killing the sync. More here:

As for the access privileges part, well, sorry, I have absolutely no idea what that means.
    Good luck!

  • Can't sync to iPod: The disk could not be read from or written to.

I recently installed a new operating system (Windows XP with service pack 2), and then downloaded the latest version of iTunes. The next time I hooked up my iPod (3rd gen.)to sync it, iTunes removed all of the music that I'd purchased on iTunes, and i was unable to sync it back on. Then every time I opened iTunes to try again, my computer would freeze (but only when on iTunes). I used the restore function to restore factory settings, so now there is nothing at all on my iPod and when I try to sync, it gives the above message (The iPod cannot by synced. The disk could not be read from or written to). Any suggestions for how I can fix this problem?
    Thanks!
