The distribution agent failed to create temporary files in 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\110\COM' directory. System returned errorcode 5.
One of my replication job failed with below error, which means job failed because of permission issue on the folder. To resolve that, I have granted the permission and it started working fine. Now the question is as my job was running fine since long time
without any issue then how suddenly the permission of the folder got omitted automatically? I am sure that no one deleted the permission from the folder and as the server is part of SQL cluster no failover occurs.

Hi Rahul,
Error code 5 indicates that the error is "access is denied." Please make sure that the COM folder is excluded from any antivirus scan that occurs on the system.
If the issue still persists, I recommend you use
Process Monitor to find out a bit more about the accounts and access requests involved. Then grant write permission to the exact COM folder for the account that is running the SQL Server Agent service. For more details, please review the following similar
thread.

Distribution agent failed to create temporary files in
Hello,
we are configured transnational replication in sql server 2005 location, all replication jobs are running fine,
while we checking sql server errorlog showing below error :
Distribution agent failed to create temporary files in 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\COM' directory. System returned errorcode 5.
NOte: normally we are configured replication 2005 [90] , but while see the above error it shows [100] comparability level .Hi,
If the account that is running SQL Server Agent does not have write access to the COM folder, the Distribution Agent will fail
when it is running as a job. If you run the Distribution Agent from a command line by using an account that does not have write access to the COM folder, the same failure will occur.
To work around this
issue, grant write permissions to the COM folder for the account that is running the SQL Server Agent service. If you run the Distribution Agent from a command line, grant write permissions to the COM folder for the account that you use to run the Distribution
Agent.

PeopleTools 8.22.19 Upgrade : Distribution Agent fails to distribute
After we upgraded our People Tools from 8.20.13 to 8.22.19, the distribution agent fails to distribute reports. Does anyone have similar experiences before or any know solutions? Please share here.
Elvis,
Did you change the hardware ? If so, then did you checked the existence of the report repository and write access ?
Did you (re)checked the report node definition ? Is it still valid ?
What error did you got from the process scheduler log file ?

It seems that error is caused because OSB is unable to create temporary jar file in /tmp/alsbTempJars. I looked for path and actually directory alsbTempJars is not present on disk. I had already created that directory in the past so I can't figure why it has been deleted.
Also I saw some out of disk space error in logs although I checked that it is at least 1Gb free at OSB mount point.
We've realized of this problem when checking logs after we got an error working with OSB web console.
To solve this error I had to create alsbTempJars directory and restart the node. Then error stopped and processing continued normaly. I think node activity was interrupted during error as I only see stack traces in log file.
OSB runs in a Linux machine with user Oracle that is also owner of alsbTempJars directory.
Hope someone could help us with this.
Regards,
Daniel. In case /tmp directory is automatically deleted, is it possible to configure a custom directory for alsbTempJars dir in OSB to assure it is never deleted?Add the -Djava.io.tmpdir=newTempDir parameter in the JAVA_PROPERTIES section of the setDomainEnv.sh script. This new location should be outside of the /tmp dir to avoid being cleared by any process.
I think best soultion would be to have alsbTempJars automatically created whenever /tmp is purged.Doing it on the fly may not be possible however you may anytime raise an enhancement request with support and if prod dev approves it, you may get a fix.

The export operation failed to create an image file
I've been experiencing bizarre behavior when attempting to export images to my Usb-connected card reader. After reading some threads on this form, I was convinced that my reader was defective. Same problem on a brand-new reader.
The specific behavior was as follows: I attempted to export roughly 150 custom-named 500 KB image files to the memory card. The last 15 or so failed to transfer and I got the message, "the export operation failed to create an image file for the versions identified below."
Trashing VP list didn't help. What did was changing the custom name. There was nothing particularly unusual about the original custom name and the new one was virtually identical. After changing the name, the export worked without a hitch.
Has anyone experienced similar behavior? Any ideas what's going on?problem was that the NEW card reader was faulty as well. My luck!

The connection has failed while creating a New Repository using Oracle BI 11g Administration Tool
hi
In the BI Administration Tool when i try to create a “New Repository…” faced The connection has failed I try all of these solutions but dident work..
1-configured my “System DSN"
2-enter “TNS_ADMIN” for the “Variable Name” field and for the “Variable Value” enter the location of my OBIEE
3-copy the sqlnet and tnsnames.ora files into E:\obiee11gtmt\Oracle_BI1\network\admin and E:\obiee11gtmt\oracle_common\network\admin
4- put this in DSN with connection type OCI 10g/11g (DESCRIPTION = (ADDRESS_LIST = (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP) (HOST = IP Addr)(PORT = 1521)) ) (CONNECT_DATA = (SERVICE_NAME = ORCL) ))
please help me
regard1.Place tnsnames.ora file in the following paths,
E:\obiee11gtmt\oracle_common\network\
E:\obiee11gtmt\Oracle_BI1\network\admin
2.Navigate to
E:\obiee11gtmt\instances\instance1\bifoundation\OracleBIApplication\coreapplication\setup\
Open user.sh file in a notepad
Set Tns_names paths as shown below with your tnsnames.ora file’s location,
set TNS_ADMIN=C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server\NETWORK\ADMIN
The above path is of your installed Database tnsnames.ora file
I guess you didnt do this step. This will solve your issue.
Restart all the services

Hi All,
I have a simple SSIS package that reads a flat file and copies it into a SQL Server table.
When the flat fiel is on the C drive I have no problem runnign this package from SQL Server Agent, but as soon as I update the path to a network location the package only works when I run it manually, but fails when is executed via the SQL Server agent job.
The error says "cannot open the datafile", while the datafile location is valid.
Is this a kind of limitation of a SQL Server Agent that only local files are allowed to be processed?
Thanks,
Andrei
SSIS questionHi All,
Thanks for your responses.
I configured the SQL agent service to use my domain account with which I have no porblems accessing the folder. However the issue persisted.
Thanks,
Andrei

Aperarature error failed to create temporary directory creating photo book?
I am getting error message when trying to buy photo book created in Aperature 3 - failed to create temporary directory and then error localize. Help!
Hello BDAqua,
Thanks for the suggeston.
I did the A4 routine several times to no avail. Doesn't that include C11?
Anyway I'll keep C11 (simple reselect of backup disk) in mind for the future.
For now I'd rather keep using my old backup disk even if it's only 80GB for 43GB full backup size. At least it is working perfectly.

Microsoft SQL Server 2014 Setup error: Wait on the Database Engine recovery handle failed
Hi,
Having this annoying error trying to install SQL Server 2014 (RTM). I saw it's been asked several times... But each post seems a different cause and no definitive answer...
I'm not doing an upgrade, so no "sa account" issue.
Tried different media. Even three different distributions: trial, Standard and Enterprise.
Tried disabling Microsoft antivirus/firewall.
Of course tried restarting, updating, installing, uninstalling, repairing, etc., etc.
I noticed the users folders under C:\Users weren't created. (Maybe something related to permissions?) After playing around, I managed for the users to be created and the service started. Though I couldn't log in.Summary for last "repair" attempt:

hi,
am running the below command for moving sql serevr mdf and ldf files from one drive to another : c drive to d drive:

can anyone pls help how to set the db offline. currently i stopped the sql server services from services.msc and started the sql server agent.
should i stop both services for moving from one drive to another?
note: I tried teh below solution but this didint work:
ALTER DATABASE <DBName> SET OFFLINE WITH ROLLBACK IMMEDIATE
Update:
now am getting the message :
Msg 15010, Level 16, State 1, Procedure sp_detach_db, Line 40
The database 'CMP_143' does not exist. Supply a valid database name. To see available databases, use sys.databases.

Unable to open the physical file "D:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL11.MSSQLSERVER\MSSQL\DATA\CMP_143.mdf". Operating system error 2: "2(The system cannot find the file specified.)".First you should have checked the database mdf/ldf name and location by using the command
Use CMP_143
Go
Sp_helpfile
Looks like your database CMP_143 was successfully detached but mdf/ldf location or name was different that is why it did not get copied to target location.
Database is already detached that’s why db offline failed
Msg 15010, Level 16, State 1, Procedure sp_detach_db, Line 40
The database 'CMP_143' does not exist. Supply a valid database name. To see available databases, use sys.databases.
EXEC @RC = sp_attach_db @DBName, @DESTData, @DESTLog
Attached step is failing as there is no mdf file
Msg 5120, Level 16, State 101, Line 1
Unable to open the physical file "D:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL11.MSSQLSERVER\MSSQL\DATA\CMP_143.mdf". Operating system error 2: "2(The system cannot find the file specified.)"
Solution:
Search for the physical files(mdf/ldf) in the OS and copy to target location and the re-run sp_attach_db with right location and name of mdf/ldf. -
Hi,
I have a windows 2008 R2 Enterprise servers with standalone MS-SQL 2008 R2 named instance. The server is having two networks, once production and the second for backup. The server FQDN is resolving to the production IP. The backup NIC
DNS dynamic update is disabled and an "A" record is registered with the dns. While trying to connect to the instance using the management studio:
Successfuly able to connect using the instance name, the production hostname, production IP and backup IP.
but while trying to connect to the insance using the backup hostname getting the below error:
"Login failed. The login is an untrusted domain and cannot be used with windows authentication. (Microsoft SQL server, Error: 18452) "
This is required for the backup tool to get connected using the backup FQDN of the server.
Should I need to create a host name alias, request you to kindly assist me with the best recommedation to fix this.
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/dbrowne/archive/2012/05/21/how-to-add-a-hostname-alias-for-a-sql-server-instance.aspxHi,
It might be a kerberos issue. Check that there are valid SPN's registered using the setspn utility - http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc731241.aspx
Thanks, Andrew

Hello team,
I have a project that I need to do, what is the best approach for each step?
1- I have to create a table in Microsoft SQL Server.
2- I have to import data/ tables from Microsoft Excel or Access to Microsoft SQL Server. Should I use Microsoft Visual Studio to move data from Excel or Access?
3-I should populate the created table with the data from the exported data.
4-How should I add the second and third imported table to the first table? Should I use union query?
After I learn these, I will bring up the code to make sure what I do is right.
Thanks for all,
Guity
GGGGGNNNNNHello Naomi,
I have imported all the tables into SQL Server,
I created a table:
CREATE
TABLE dbo.Orders
Now I want to populate this table with the values from imported tables, will this code take care of this task?
INSERT INTO dbo.Orders(OrderId, OrderDate)
SELECT OrderId, OrderDate
FROM Sales.Orders
UNION
SELECT OrderId, OrderDate
FROM Sales.Orders1
Union
SELECT OrderId, OrderDate
FROM Sales.Orders2
If not, what is the code?
Please advise me.

I keep getting this annoying window that pops up while surfing Drudge:
File not found

Check the file name for capitalization or other typing errors.
Check to see if the file was moved, renamed or deleted.
Do you have any idea how to get rid of this annoying pop-up? I searched for that file name on Google, but nothing came up.
This only started happening after the Scareware program, Open Cloud Security, infected my computer a few days ago. My wife got into my registry to remove Open Cloud, but now I am left with this annoying Firefox problem. I have to close the annoying window TWICE to get back to Drudge.
This happens 6 times per hour.
Thanks
