The Do not Disconnect sign and the Disk Mode

Hi. I fully understand the reason for the "Do not disconnect" sign and the disk mode, etc. However there are a couple of things that bug me. I prefer to keep my ipod permanently connected to a power source (USB port). Now, every time there's a USB event (connecting or disconnecting my mobile pone or USB memory) the "Do not disconnect" sign reappears and I have to go into iTunes again and eject the ipod to be able to use it. Why does this happen? Is there a way to avoid it?

If you sync your songs instead of doing it manaully the do not disconnect sign will say ok to disconnect when its done updating.

What do I do?  it also makes a lot of noise while connected to the computer.

Is the camera damaged? Could be a hardware problem.
    Try:
Close the Camera app in the multitasking bar, then try again.
Restart/Reset/Restore your iPod. In that order.

This happened to me aswell, but it happened to me when I plugged it into the PC but same problem. what you have to do is move the 'Hold Switch' to put it on hold and then move it back again and then hold both the 'Menu button' and button in the middle of the click wheel. then it will turn off and then come up with the Apple logo and then it will work fine and you can try again. (P.S: If it doesnt show the Apple logo just try pressing any button

  • Help with the DO NOT DISCONNECT frozen

I had just buy my ipod and I disconnected it by mistake while the sign DO NOT DISCONNECT was flashing. Now when I plug it it doesn't do anything. The Do not disconnect sign is frozen there and I can't reset it. Did I brake it? Is there anything I can do? Thansk you for helping me.
    Elisabeth

    First, try "resetting" the iPod.
For mine, that means turning Hold on then off, then holding down Menu and Centre buttons together for 6 seconds.
You should then be able to disconnect it.

  • How long does it take the 'Do Not Disconnect' screen to disappear?

How long does it take the 'Do Not Disconnect' screen to disappear?
I Just got my ipod nano a week ago. I put maybe 10 songs on there and then today, since I had some time, decided to start creating my library. By the time I decided to stop and plug in my nano so it can update, i had like 219 songs that had to be transferred. I watched each song on iTunes go to the ipod like usual and then my list that comes up when you select "__ ipod" is all grayed out like it's still updating. On the top of the iTunes screen, it says ipod update is complete though, and of course, my ipod has been saying do not disconnect for the past hour and a half with the battery fully charged. Does it really take that long for it to finish synching my songs? I mean I know I had a lot of songs to put on there put geez!

    Welcome to Apple Discussions
Try ejecting your iPod from iTunes. You might want to look at Knowledge Base Document #61685 about The "Do Not Disconnect" Message and Knowledge Base Document #93492 explains How to Safely Disconnect the iPod.

Reset the iPod. (hold down the menu and center button). If that doesn't work, try a restore with the iPod updater.

  • 'Do Not Disconnect" sign is on but.. its charged up???

As stated, my ipod is charged (with the plug sign on top right corner) but the 'Do Not Disconnect' sign is on. Here's my problem, I have no itunes on this computer that I was recharging my ipod on, AND I am not allowed to download itunes because I am on a work computer.I don't want to pull the plug because I am afraid to do damage to the ipod and laptop! I tried reseting it (hold off/on + menu/middle button thing) but after it starts up it immediately goes back to the 'Do Not Disconnect sign'. What should I do?
Last night my ipod froze so thats why I was recharging it. I think it froze because I hadn't disconnect it right an hour before. I thought it was okay to disconnect when the big battery charged sign showed up... but I quess not. Help!!!
      Windows XP   eh

The system tray is located at where the system clock shows up on the screen. By default, this would be the bottom right hand corner of the screen with start menu at bottom left.
If you have rearranged the position of the taskbar, then the follow situations can occur:
--> If the taskbar was moved to the top of the screen, the start menu is located at top left & system tray at top right.
--> If the taskbar is located on the left-hand side of the screen, the start menu is at the top left and system tray at the bottom left.
--> If taskbar is located on right-hand side of screen, then start menu is on top right, and system tray is at bottom right.
In the system tray you will find various icon that may include:
    Volume control
    iTunes
    Instant Messengers currently open
    Your Antivirus Software
    Your Firewall Software
    and many others
You will then want to find the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon within the system tray. Look for something with a little green arrow.

  • Continuous "Do Not Disconnect" sign.

Hey, I hope you can help. Whenever I connect the cable to the iPod a "do not disconnect" sign appears. It goes on for hours. I'm using Windows Media Player to sync songs because iTunes wouldn't connect with my iPod since it told me to reinstall it and still nothing worked (and the iPod is recognized as My Ipod (F:) in Windows Media Player) and once the sync is complete, the "Do not disconnect" sign is still intact. When I remove the cable (thinking it's just a fluke) none of my songs appear. Please help!

This is a problem that I personally have and in digging around these message boards a lot of other people have aswell.
Do some searches for iPod not disconnecting that brings up a lot of messages, but glad somebody has actually started a thread for this. The usual answers everybody gives (and I think these are generally MAC users) is update the iPod software using iPod Updater, re-install iTunes, update all of your windows drivers.......I have tried all three to no avail. But maybe you'll get lucky.
iPod is designed to work with iTunes only - Media Player just transfers songs to the iPod's hardrive, which means that you can easily pull them off again, but the iPod can't actually play them - useful huh.....
I haven't had any problems with my iPod connecting to iTunes, it's the disconnect thing that bugs me, because it also causes my PC to crash - not in midrun, but it won't allow my PC to actually shutdown - I have to pull the power cord.
This is not always the case - if I dock my iPod without iTunes open, then it opens iTunes, updates and disconnects, no problems and windows shuts down just fine. If iTunes is already open or after automatically updating, I manually update again then the do not disconnect logo appears and will not go away. Everywhere I have read indicates that as long as the iPod is not physically updating (the little circle top left corner of your iPod or the red flashing icon in iTunes) then just pull it out and there will be no problem. It seems to work for me, but thats not the point though is it. When you spend $300 plus accessories you expect it to work with all platforms as promised. I am a little dissapointed as my PC is 3 months brand new out of the box and as far as i can tell I have updated every driver/chipset possible......
Anybody else with any good ideas.......I run Windows XP Media Center. XP's fine but the Media Center is crappy.

I held the "Menu" button along with the center button
for about 6 seconds (as they state you should) and
all of the sudden the screen finally broke from the
"Do not disconnect" screen and began charging, now
everything is working as it should.
Oh my gosh, thanks so much, that did it! I, too, did not know that the "Select" button is the middle. And in fact, in all my prior repeated attempts to re-set my iPod, I had made a point of trying NOT to press the middle, but just the Menu button and the bottom button at the same time (since I thought that the bottom/play button must also be the select button). (Why did I think that? Answer -- because the 5R's instructions seemed, I mistakenly thought, to be saying to be careful not to touch the middle. I guess not. If anybody at Apple is reading this, please note that people like me can easily confused by unexplained verbiage like "Select button," apparently. Please consider tweaking the 5R's instructions to explain this to others.)

  • HT204053 When I initially try to sign in to iCloud, I get the "Account not verified" screen and I am told to check my email for instructions to verify.  No email is ever sent. My ID and password work on all other Apple app's.  Why not for iCloud?

When I initially try to sign in to iCloud, I get the "Account not verified" screen and I am told to check my email for instructions to verify.  No email is ever sent. My ID and password work on all other Apple app's.  Why not for iCloud?

I've tried both. First, I tried on my pc, where iTunes had installed iCloud when it last updated. I have iTunes installed on this computer (and on my iPad and iPhone), but that wasn't the issue.
So I went online, thinking I needed a separate iCloud Apple ID, but it prompted me for my current Apple ID and gave me the message about my ID being "valid" but not an iCloud account," which, lol, was what it had asked me to do in order to create one. I checked, and at least one other user is having the same issue. I'll attempt to copy/paste the Support request url: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4430653?tstart=0
Thank you for any help you can give.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

My mac book pro will not fully boot up. I have the grey background with the apple sign and the timer going round...but 20 minutes later still no desktop

You could try doing a hard shut down (holding the power button or yanking the battery) and then doing a safe boot by holding the shift key at startup:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1455
Also, not sure if this applies in your case, but I've had that happen when there's a USB drive inserted either in the computer or a connected external keyboard.  I did a hard shut down, removed the drive and it went through a normal start up.

To give you something, I need something too, like
How old is the Ipod? (if it is still under warranty, then send it to Apple service shop)
Are you running Windows iTunes or Mac iTunes?
What do you see on the iPod screen?
My guess is, your iPod classic is more than 2 years old and out of warranty, and the hardisk has gone kaput! and need to be replaced.
    Have a nice day!
