The document "x.pages" could not be saved. No such file or directory

I have a client machine that connects to an xserve/xraid that gets the error "The document 'thefilename.pages' could not be saved. No such file or directory" while attempting to save a file.
The file in question does exist on the server as does the directory. In fact the file was opened from the server for editing. It's the saving back to the server that is causing an issue.
The file can be saved to the desktop then copied back to the server, overwriting the old file but cannot be saved directly.
Adding to the odd behavior is that the issue is not consistent. However it appears to happen most often later in the work day.
I found a thread with a similar question but no answer and the thread was locked and could not be added to.
Any ideas for a fix?

I experience the same issue with iWorks Numbers when saving a locally worked-on file back to the network server. It only started happening after upgrading my local iMac to Snow Leopard (OS 10.6.1)- the server is running on Leopard (10.5.?). I suspect the problem lies in this upgrade incompatibility. Apple are taking their time fixing it-still occurs with OS 10.6.4. Or are the saying I should upgrade the OS on the server as well?
(1) To check if there is an incompatibility, check if the file saved locally is in good health before moving it on the server.
(2) Here we are end-users like you so we can't respond to questions asked to Apple.
(3) I'm a bit surprised that you get corrupted files using a product which doesn't exist. There is no iWorks product. Apple never distribute such a product !

  • Why is it that, "The document "Untitled.numbers" could not be saved." ?

The new version of TextEdit (Version 1.7 (289.3)) can save files to our server shared folder (mini server, raid 1 array, 10.7.3) and save changes, Numbers can only save them the first time. After that
The document “Untitled.numbers” could not be saved.

Now save works, but wait for much disk grinding
This computer went from 10.6.8 and jumped to 10.7.3 and I had to split the RAID 1 array it started on to get the installation to restart and complete. Hints from the installer that some features would not be available (autorecover drive) didn't hit it would leave a folder crucial to operation of Apple's own software inaccessible.
    The path does exist, Panda.
Why was that folder not accessible except to system? and hidden in the normally hidden /Users/X/Library for fun? with a nearly useless error?

As far as I know, the AutoSave feature as it is treated by iWork apps is unable to work on networks.
You must work on the local machine then copy the document to the network.
I guess that this annoying feature will strike until the delivery of the lond waited major upgrade.

  • TextEdit: "The document 'filename.txt' could not be saved."

This error is occurring frequently, to the point of extreme frustration. I keep a plain text file open all day at work and use it to keep track of minor things like calls and notes. Routinely, when I go to save this file, it reports the error message in my title. It also reports this error message occassionally:
The document “filename.txt” could not be autosaved.
Originally, I thought that it might be Dropbox doing it (since the file was in Dropbox). So, I moved it to my desktop and set up a cron to copy that desktop file into Dropbox every 60 seconds. In other words, Dropbox should have absolutely no bearing on the desktop file.
    Still, the error persists.
So, when this happens, I copy the file's text to my clipboard, quit TextEdit without saving, then restart TextEdit, paste the text back in, and save. Between 30 seconds and 30 minutes later, I have the same issue again. I have to do this more times a day than I can count.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • The document could not be saved. A file I/O error has occurred

    Hello,
I have scanned PDF files varying in size from < 1,000 pages to > 5,000 pages. I seem to experience this issue on and off on various files regardless of the size. The issue is when I OCR the pdf using Adobe Acrobat X Pro, when it's completed the OCR process and I go to save it errors out with: "The document could not be saved. A file I/O error has occurred"
    I have tried:
    1. Saving to local hard drive
    2. Saving to network drive
    3. Renaming file and repeating steps 1&2
    4. File/Save as and reducing (but it won't allow me to do so without saving first, lol)
    Any thoughts? Thanks so much.

  • Error message "The document could not be saved. This file is already open" when trying to complete an electronic signature.

Running Adobe Acrobat Professional 10.1.0. I cannot upgrade to newer version because several applications were already tested on this version.
When trying to complete an electronic signature, my users receive the error message ""The document could not be saved. This file is already open".  When they close and open the file again to try to sign again they find a corrupted electronic signature.  Instead of a clean signature with the box colored in light blue they see their signature with the embedeed message Click Here to Verify & Sign with the box colored in grey.
We turned off antivirus in the Sharefolder where the forms are stored and nothing.  We turned off the antivirus on the client and nothing.  We stored the files in another server and nothing.  One workaround is saving the file in the desktop, signing it, and then back to the Sharefolder.  Another is saving the file with a different file name.
I've searched and the only similar thing was caused by the Windows Preview Pane.  See Information Transmogrification: Adobe Acrobat saving a file does not work, displays “File may be read-only”.  No luck with this one too.
Is definitively an intermittent problem.  The users that experience the problem experience it intermittently.
This started to happen when we move our computers to Windows 7.
    Any ideas?

    Correction on Question:
This is a web application and the users need to be able to load the editable .pdf form from the website, edit it and submit it back to the website from within Internet Explorer.
Users began getting the error message:
'The document could not be saved. This file is already open.'
last Friday after having no problems prior to this. Some users can edit the editable .pdf forms on the website and save the file with the same name to the website. Some get the error mentioned in the subject.

I am new to the Mac world and trying to set up for my son to do homework. So please bear with me if I ask a lot of questions.
I reloaded the software and still get the same reply. Any help to get it running would be a HUGE help.

    Mitch,
See if you can run Pages successfully in another User account. If so, you have a corrupt PLIST file in the main user acount.
I have a hunch that this is your problem since reloading the software didn't solve the problem. But, I have to ask if you may have moved Pages.app from where the installer put it.

  • The document could not be saved. This file is already open.

This problem recently developed.with several versions of Acrobat Reader 9.x installed. The full version of Acrobat is not installed.
Users used to be able to open an editable .pdf file in IE, edit it and save it. Some users can no longer do this. The are getting
the error message "The document could not be savedl. This file is already open. Users who are able to save from within a browser, are actually
using Acrobat Reader, which opens when opening the .pdf file from within the browser. Everyone can open Acrobat Reader V 9.x, edit an editable .pdf file and save it. It is just when the .pdf file is opened from a browser application, and the reader is not also launched. Help! This just started happening.

    Help!
    Thanks, Mark

Unfortunately, the error message gives no details about what codec might be missing or what it needs.
If the file can't be opened in QT, it only means you cannot use the QT "Inspector" window to check what compression formats were used to create the file. It does not mean you can't use the Finder "Information" window to check on the compression formats or use a third party media information window (e.g., like VLC which will open many compression formats not supported natively by QT) to determine what kind of data is included in the MOV wrapper. If the file cannot be opened in any app, it is usually a good sign that the file itself is corrupted.
It's a stupid error message. Apple should do better than that.
Error trapping is quite extensive but there are still many areas which require human oversight. The message is telling you that either the container has a problem (e.g., not properly terminated, non-standard, or corrupted) or that one or more of the compression formats used is not supported by your current codec component configuration or that the data was encoded using non-standard settings or preferences not supported by QT or that the fourCC code does not match the data contained in the file or that there are timecode inconsistencies, etc., etc., etc. In short there are a near infinite number of possible problems for which it would be very difficult/nearly impossible to program error trapping depending on your sourcing of content and how you process it before it reaches the player app. Think of it like trying to play a BD disc in an DVD player.
I'll call Apple support when I get a chance.
Chances are good that they will end up sending you back here. In any case, it is often a good idea to post a sample file for examination by other QT users. At the very least, they should be able to tell you if the sample file will play on other systems which would indicate whether or not the file itself is bad and under the best of circumstances whould allow them to examing the file in detail for various common problems.

Try installing Perian or VLC. Some AVIs require a codec which simply isn't available for Mac OS X.

  • The Windows support software could not be saved to the selected drive

I am trying to use bootcamp assistant to set up windows 7 on my 27" iMac (late 2013). I follow the instructions: select all the tasks in the 'select tasks' pane, then I choose the 32GB MS-DOS (FAT-32) flash drive that I am using and the windows 7 home premium image file and click continue. In the Task Status pane, it first formats the flash drive, copies the windows files and downloads windows support software. However every time that I have tried this, when the progress bar is about 2/3 of the way finished -- during the 'Downloading Windows Support Software' task -- an error pops up saying that 'The Windows support software could not be saved to the selected drive' and brings me back to the task selection pane. Upon reading other articles, I have downloaded the latest bootcamp5.1.5621.zip file, but I don't know what to do with it. Any help is greatly appreciated,

Just posting this for anyone else having this problem. I found that the problem was that I was using a USB 3.0 flash drive which is not natively supported by windows. So I think BCA was trying to prevent me from downloading all the files for no reason.

I just had this exact same problem and from the looks of your document title, my fix might work for yours as well.  I fixed the file by editing the index.xml file in the corrupted numbers file.  Numbers '09 doesn't save documents as folders by default anymore, but you should be able to unzip them to folders using something like Unarchiver, 7zip, or a similar program (I used my default archive extraction program, which is called "The Unarchiver").  My problem was that I had put an obscure unicode character in the name of one of my tables.  Look at the console output in Console.app and see if something similar doesn't show up.  I just went into the text file, changed the offending characters to something from ASCII, and renamed the (unzipped) folder to have the .numbers extension, and the file openned without any issues.
Anyway, like I said, probably won't help at this point, but maybe it will help someone else later.
