The downloads disappear when firefox shuts down in the middle of a download
In the previous versions of firefox, I could stop my downloads in the middle, shut down my computer, restart and continue my downloads from that point on... but that doesnt seem to be the case with 3.6... I have to restart my downloads from the very beginning ... can you help me with this problem?

Does it help if you remember Downloads: Tools > Options > Privacy > History: "Remember download history" ?
Also make sure that you do not use [[Clear Recent History]] to clear the download history

When I open Firefox, nothing seems to happen. It doesn't appear on the monitor and the Task Manager doesn't list it as running. But when I shut down the computer, Firefox must be closed before shut down can be completed.
The "System Tray" is located at the very bottom right of your screen and is a list of most/all running applications that will show in this list.
For your SysFader issue, this "may" be the problem:
1 Find the "My Computer" desktop icon and right-click it. A pull-down menu will appear. Select "Properties."
2 Click on the "Advanced" tab. This will load a new page of options.
3 Select the "Visual Effects" tab at the top of the window and deselect "Animate Windows when minimizing and maximizing," "Fade or slide menus into view," "Fade or slide Tool Tips into view" and "Fade out Menu items after checking."
4 Click "OK." This will remove most if not all of the Sysfader effects, at the same time correcting related errors that used to come up during opening a new file or program. -
I am having problems with Firefox. When I click on the shortcut, or the .exe file nothing happens. I check task manager to see if it is running and it does not show Firefox is running.
But when I shut down the computer then the browser shows up right before the computer shuts down. I have tried starting the browser in safe mode and the same thing happens. Firefox 18.0 crashes when I shut down Firefox on a 32-bit computer. OK in 64-bit computer.
Firefox 18.0 works well when I open it on a 32-bit desktop. I can open any website (I use only one tab). But when I shut down Firefox, I get the "Firefox crashed" message. It reloads ok, but I've never had this problem with any Firefox version before. I downloaded another copy of 18.0 and the same thing happened. 18.0 works perfectly on a 64-bit laptop. Both computers are wired to the router. I keep my security, Windows 7, etc. updated.
If I can download 17.x, I'd like to see if it happens there, too It never did before. I would appreciate your suggestions. Thanks.

If the same website is opening each time you launch a browser (Safari?) hold down the shift key as you launch to prevent previous pages from opening.

Also, it saves my tabs when I restart the browser, but when I shut down my computer and start up again, Firefox does not show my tabs from last time. The same thing happens with sites I've logged onto before; it logs me out after I shut down my computer.Did you check the "Clear Recent History" settings to be sure cthat you do not clear the Browser history and the cookies?

Firefox shut down & updated in the middle of my work; I could not restore my session; you have literally cost me my job and future if this cannot be fixed. I don't understand why it updated without me prompting it to. It also never ask to report a crash.
I went to play a youtube video, my entire screen flashed, when the screen came back, the youtube video screen was green. I refreshed the page and my system stopped- a blue screen appeared and something about verifying disk or something. My system the restarted, and when I opened firefox, it first said preparing updates and when it did finally open, the new updated version, of course, I could not restore my previous session.You can check in the Firefox profile folder to see if there are numbered sessionstore-##.js present.<br />
The sessionstore.bak file could also have a previous session.

Firefox doesn't close when Windows shuts down
When Windows (in my case: Win XP SP3) shuts down, it sends a message ("QUERY_UNLOAD" in many programming languages) so that the active programs can finish their jobs (e.g. ask about unsaved data) and then exit. It seems you developers have reached v25 of Firefox and not thought of programming this small bit -> Windows shut down - an open Firefox doesn't give a fuck about exiting, you have to cancel it via Windows.
It would be nice to have this little effort of programming done - at last - thank you.What an answer: The user asked to circumvent the shortcomings of a program.
Firefox should be able to do what 99% of all programs actually do, i.e. close gracefully when Windows shuts down. This is the industry standard.
And: I guess it's not more than a 2- to 5-lines code. So, don't try to evade it, lazy. -
When I shut down the Mac Pro, it restarts
Has anyone run into this issue with their Mac Pro? When I shut down the computer (either via the Ctrl + Option + Cmd + Eject or the Shut Down command from the Apple menu drop down), the Mac Pro will simply restart and take me back to my log-in screen.
At this point, I can hit the shut down button on the login window and it will shutdown, but this is annoying, a waste of time, and unnecessary.
I have tried performing an SMC reset, but it has not resolved this issue.

12GB ram
ATI 5870 graphics card (1GB)I have noticed the exact same behaviour. It only happens when I have something plugged into one of the front USB ports (example : external HD, USB key)
Apparently the system crashes during the shut down process, and then reboots.
Unfortunately, I have not yet found a solution -
I have 30+ iPhoto Libraries, so every time I open one, iPhoto wants to copy the 3 events I had out there when MobileMe shut down. Those 3 events are already saved in the appropriate iPhoto libraries. Wish I had deleted them on MobileMe! How do I turn this process off?
As Larry mentioned I use a different DAM (digital asset management) appliclation, Media Pro 1. For other possible DAM apps visit The DAM Forum which is for professional photographers. There the various apps are discussed along with workflows. If nothing else you'll get some good information on managing digital "negatives".
Media Pro lets you manage the folder organization of your photos and write metadata, keywords, titles, and other metadata directly back to the files. No matter what app you go with have a backup plan in place to keep current backups of your source photos on separate hard drives. -
For some reason when I shut down my computer then turn it back on, it comes back directly into my account, bypassing having to enter a password to get into my account. This works in direct conflict with the parental controls I've got set up. Any ideas?

why did Apple switch the position of the bookmarks icon and the favorites icon. Now I tap the wrong one.There isn't a setting to stop the tab bar automatically hiding (or I haven't found one), and as to why the icons were moved I don't think that Apple have said. My hard drive desktop suddenly will no longer hold or maintain the icons in place when I shut down and restart. The icons all change positions, alphabetically. Just started happening. I prefer the icons to a list format. Concerned this might be a symptom of a larger problem. Any thoughts?
revmandanIt's normal for the icons at the top level of the startup disk to revert to the same arrangement every time the Finder is relaunched. If it's important to you to arrange those icons in a persistent way, proceed as follows.
Back up all data.
Open the Info window on the startup disk (labeled "Macintosh HD" unless you gave it another name.) Click the lock icon in the lower right corner of the dialog and authenticate.
In the Sharing & Permissions section, click the plus-sign button to add an entry to the access list. Give yourself "Read and Write" access. This will be a temporary change. Leave the dialog open.
Open the Finder window and arrange the icons as you wish, then close the window.
In the Info dialog, use the minus-sign button to delete the entry you just added to the access list. Don't change anything else. When you're done, it should be the same as when you started. Close the Info dialog. -
