The dreaded "Connected, Eject before disconnecting" message. Please Help

Brand new 80gb classic Ipod. Deciding very quickly that it will be the first AND LAST one I own!! Followed everything as I should. Had to browse the discussions to get past the constant register now problem. Was able to get a never register button eventually, and then registered it manually. Now I cannot get past the license agreement. I agree and save, but never get any further. Any other people have this problem?? How long before you decide its so worth tossing a $250 investment into the wall?!!

Funny, I don't recall a Save option when registering, but oh well ...
1) Do you have iTunes 7.5 on your machine? If not, you should.
2) Have you established an iTunes account yet? That may not be an issue, but if you haven't set up an Apple account then I wonder if that's messing up the registration? Or, if you have an account, are you logged in when you're registering your new iPod?
3) I'm assuming that you haven't even gotten to the point of adding anything to your iPod, right? If so, then try putting your iPod into disk mode before connecting to iTunes, connect it to iTunes, then restore it to factory settings:
Manually Putting the iPod in Disk Mode:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651
Restoring Your iPod to Factory Settings:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60983
This will erase anything you have on your iPod, so if you ever did get anything loaded onto it then that will be erased. No harm done if your iTunes library has all your media (some people unwisely remove media from their library once they load it onto their iPod). See if that gets you any further through the process. Good luck!

  • Ever since the new update, my Ipod won't sync. Starts to sync but then goes back to connected eject before disconnecting. Still won't transfer songs even after being restored. Restored fine. But now I've got nothing on it. Please god help!

For awhile, since the newest update, I'd noticed when charging the ipod (classic) that it stopped going to the charging screen and would stay on the  Connected: Eject before disconnecting' screen. But, y'know, didn't matter to me, it still charged... until today when I tried to add music. Tried it many times, reset it... STILL wouldn't transfer songs... It would 'say' it was syncing, but then suddenly stop and stay on the same Connect: please eject before disconnecting' page. I did a couple of times get a message about scanning it but, after restoring that never popped up again...
So, I do a system restore on it and ofcourse THAT works, but it STILL won't sync! So, now I've got an ipod with no music that won't sync and because it's all gone on there, I'm not sure how to back up my stuff (should I need to re-install iTunes... Though I doubt it'd work...)... So, yeah, I tried a different cable too, still no luck...
There has GOT to be some way to fix this!
Please somebody help me out! I so freaking appreciate it you have NO idea!

I think the problem is that the iPod got set to Manually manage music and videos.  It needs to be set up for automatic syncing again.  Just unchecking that Manually manage music and videos setting does not do it.
In iTunes 12, select the iPod in iTunes (using the device button), so that you see the iPod's "management" screen.  In the sidebar (along left side of screen), there are two headings (Settings and On My Device).  Under Settings, click on Music.  To the right, you see the iPod's Music screen, where you tell iTunes how to sync songs to the iPod.
Check the box at the top for Sync Music.  That turns ON automatic syncing for music.  Below that, choose the option to sync Entire music library (assuming your music library fits completely on your iPod).  Otherwise, you can choose the option to sync Selected playlists, artists, albums, and genres and make your selections below.  Then click Apply.

  • IPod says connected, eject before disconnecting with a pict. Of the USB cable. It does this after its been charging and I can not access the menus. Any solutions?a

iPod seems to be frozen. After it has been charing and I remove it foamy PC! It says "connected, eject before disconnecting" with a picture of the USC cable. I can not proceed with this on the screen. Should I reconnect to my pc and do something differently?

Try to perform a hard reset of the iPod, which is about the equivalent of rebooting your PC.  To do this, first make sure the hold switch is in the Off position.  Then press and hold both the Select (Center) and Menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.

  • IPod nano 6th generation: "Do not disconnect" on white screen w/flashing icon; previously "Connected-Eject before Disconnecting" on dark screen w/USB icon; no content on iPod

Trouble began with "Reconnect to iTunes to Restore" message after I inadvertantly held down the Wake/Sleep button long enough to turn the iPod off before pausing the podcast in progress.
My subseqent actions to try to remedy:
    -Restored the iPod
-while Restoring, the rotating circular arrows and "Synchronizing-Do Not Disconnect" screen appeared followed by "Connected-Eject Before Disconnecting"
-when I ejected the iPod and disconnected it, the normal icons showed but there was no content
-Reinstalled the latest iTunes 11.0.3 which I had downloaded previously a few days before my problems began
-Restored iPod again:  still said "Connected-Eject before Disconnecting"
-Manually put the iPod into Disk Mode (said to be helpful in troubleshooting):  "Do Not Disconnect" on white screen with flashing icon (circle with diagonal line)
    -Ejected and disconnected the iPod.
    -Reconnected the iPod:  same message

You need to either the let the iPod finishing syncing with iTunes, or figure out what application is still using it in the back ground that prevents you from being able to properly eject the device.  Just unplugging it from the computer is almost always going to cause issues when it's still in use by iTunes or another application.
So let's connect the device to iTunes one more time and let it finish restoring.  Then try syncing a bit of content over to it and wait for it to finish the sync process.  Then try to properly eject it from iTunes this time.

  • 160 GB frozen "connected--eject before disconnecting"

When I tried to sync my 160GB iPod to iTunes (v.7.5) it froze with message "Connected--Eject Before Disconnecting." It did NOT show up either on my desktop or in iTunes. I tried restarting computer, but computer would not restart. Finally, I disconnected the iPod but the screen was still frozen. I was then able to restart computer and re-attach iPod but iPod is still frozen with same message. Any help appreciated.

I've had an interesting and perhaps relevant experience recently. I was getting messages that my iPod was corrupted or alternately it failed to show up. I called tech support and they couldn't figure out what was happening. I also noted that Time Machine was running very slowly. In checking on this I noted that Windows security software could do this. It occurred to me that I should turn off the anti-virus and anti-spyware software on the Windows side of my computer. Once I did this everything returned to normal with my iPod. I have no clue as to how the Windows based software is affecting my Leopard based performance but it is. Perhaps someone can explain how and why this is happening and perhaps there is some solution as it means switching to Windows will involve extra work turning on the security when I enter and turning it off when I leave.

When iPod is connected to a computer there are times when it should not be disconnected by simply unplugging the USB cable. In these cases, iPod must first be ejected before it can be safely disconnected. Read the information in this article to determine when an iPod can be safely disconnected.

  • After synching my original design Ipod (with video), "eject before disconnecting" message appears. Eject what?

After synching my Ipod to my computer for additional songs, I get a message saying "eject before disconnecting" on my computer and the Ipod displays DO NOT DISCONNECT. What are they wanting me to eject?

You probably have the iPod in "disk mode," for transferring files other than music, etc. It's asking you to eject the iPod using the computer controls. in iTunes, that's the little up-arrow next to the iPod name in the sidebar. On a mac, the up-arrow will appear next to the iPod name in a Finder window. On Windows, you can use the task bar to eject.
If you don't like this behavior, you can disable it. While the iPod is plugged in, click on the iPod in the sidebar*. In the "Summary" tab, make sure that "Manually Manage Music and videos" and "Enable disk use" are unchecked. Then, you will be able to unplug the iPod as soon as sync is completed, without having to eject.
If you don't have a sidebar, go to the "View" drop-down menu, and choose "Show Sidebar." I always leave it on, I have no idea why it is disabled by default in the new installs.

How to reset the iPod if it appears frozen or is not responding.
It may take quite a few attempts and is best done connected to power.
and also is there any way to get all ur phurchases back
Every time you download music from the iTunes store Apple have to pay the artist royalties, so the official stance from Apple is that purchases from the iTunes music store can only be downloaded one time. Then, you must pay again.
This is why you are prompted to back this music up to a cd or dvd.
Some people say that they've been allowed a re-download for various reasons when they've contacted Apple.
You can only ask but please be aware that Apple are not obligated to do this for you.
