The dreaded Error -32

Hey everyone,
I have been googling this for the last couple of days and tried various things but nothing has helped. I have been trying to copy a large amount of data from one external HD to a brand new WD 2TB drive and I constantly get the Error -32 message appearing and the copy failing.
ie: "The Finder can’t complete the operation because some data in “The Shawshank Redemption.mp4” can’t be read or written.
(Error code -36)"
It doesn't always happen on the same file/folder. It seems random and there is no apparent reason for it. The drive I am copying from is operating correctly and the 2TB is brand new. I actually bought a 1.5TB and had the error initially and after running WD diagnostic software it said there was a problem so I took it back and got the 2TB. Now its happening with this one so I am confident that the problem lies in the Mac. Both external drives are connected to the Mac through a USB hub, but connecting one to the Mac and one to the hub still continues to have the problem. I thought it might be a data buffer error or something. I am not running any server or anything as I saw this error can appear when sometime with a server being used.
Has anyone managed to resolve this error? I did find a you tube video of a guy using the dot_clean command in terminal and that didn't work either. I seem to be successful in copying the files when done in small batches (2-3 folders at a time), but this would take forever with my whole itunes files requiring a move to the new drive.
Hope someone out there has an answer.
Cheers

Well, I often got "The Finder can't complete the operation because some data in x can't be read or written (Error code -36)" with a task much simpler than copying big chunks of data between hard drives.
It happens every other time I try to upload less than 2 MB of files to an iDisk folder. It's annoying. Some files can be copied, and when this error arises its ugly head, the Finder stops uploading the rest.
For the record, I've just repaired my disk, and some of these "unreadable" files are in .psd format. Maybe can we blame Adobe for another software hiccup?

  • The Dreaded Error #2038...

So I've created a video (flv) uploader which uses a ColdFusion back end that constantly throws the wonderful Error #2038. I have done everything I can think about to hunt down the source of the error and I'm running out of ideas. This wouldn't be a big deal except for the fact that I have an image uploader, that uses the same ColdFusion back end model which doesn't throw any errors at all and works like a charm. I've read some threads previously posted on the Adobe forums and some people claim that the size of the file could throw the error, so I've tried small files and large files and no dice. For the fun of it I tried uploading large image files with my image uploader and again.....no error. WTF? Anyone have a thought?
    Thanks,
    PJ

How did you resolve the above issue ? Thanks.

  • The dreaded error 100 - I've tried about everything

Hi!  I have an iMac v9.1 with Mac OS X 10.6.8, 8 Gb RAM and about 90 Gb  disk space.  I have been using Mac App store to buy and download applications, the last time I downloaded a paid application was in late October.
Last weekend I opened the App store to buy and download Mountain Lion 10.8.2 and got these errors:
Purchase of this item is not currently available. This item is being modified. Please try again later.
    And then:
We could not complete your request. There was an error in the App Store. Please try again later. (100)
This what I have done so far to try to fix the error:
    1. Tried to download free applications from MAS and iTunes store.  Both work.
    2. Tried to download paid applications from iTS.  Doesn't work.
    3. Tried to download paid applications from iTS with same Apple ID but a different computer a a different location.  Works.
    4. Tried to delete /Library/Caches, ~/Library/Caches, ~/Library/Cookies, /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/NetworkInterfaces.plist and ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.storeagent.plist.  Doesn't work.
    5. Tried to log off MAS and iTS, to quit MAS and iTS, to log off and on my iMac, to restart my iMac.  Doesn't work.
    6. Tried to delete everything from /private/var/folders.  Doesn't work
    7. Tried to reinstall 10.6.8.  Doesn't work.
    8. Tried to delete Mac App Store, then install 10.6.6 and then install 10.6.8.  Doesn't work
    9. Tried to log in to my iMac as a different user, including as root user.  Doesn't work.
    10. Tried to edit/confirm my credit card information.  Doesn't work.
I have not created a new Apple ID, nor have I tried to change location (from Iceland to another country).  Anyway I am pretty sure it won't work since my problem seems to be restricted to my computer and not an individual user.
Should I perhaps format and then reinstall my hard disk from Time Machine as it was in last October?  Seems to me a rather drastic way to fix this error.
Please help me if you can.  Any help or suggestions (other than I've tried so far) are most appreciated.  Please note that I am not a beginner at OS X although I am not a unix guru.  As a matter of fact I have used Apple computers since 1984, starting with Apple iic :-)

    Oh, I forgot:
I don't have any of the following applications, which are supposed to prevent access to MAS:
    Net Nanny
    Little Snitch
    Hands Off
    Anti virus software.
... and I have not installed any kind of applications since my last purchase from MAS.
One more thing:  I have tried to delete and reinstall iTunes.

  • The dreaded Error #1009

I'm not sure why this is happening:
"TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method
of a null object reference. at
    BRPuzzle_fla::MainTimeline/frame15()"
All there is on Frame 15 is a movie clip "mcOne." The AS on
that frame is attached. What I don't understand is why this nearly
identical setup works in other parts of the timeline, with only
minor changes to instance, URLRequest, and function names (it's a
graphic of 6 puzzle pieces that I animate popping up upon a roll

comment out you event listeners to see if you have problem

  • The Dreaded Error #-34506

I've spent a fair amount of time in the last 24-hours scouring through these forums attempting to find an answer to my iDVD troubles. Each time I attempt to "Save As Disc Image", I get "The error #-34506 was reported…". This is during the multiplexing stage.
My project is actually not as complicated as some. It's a 30 minute video composed from within FCP 4.5 and has a total of 10 chapter markers. I am currently running MacOS 10.4.3 with iDVD 5.0.1.
Here's a list of the things I have attempted:
    1. Re-exporting from FCP using chapter markers that conform to the guidelines established in other threads. Most notably, not having an introductory chapter and making sure that each chapter is two seconds apart from the end of a previous segment.
    2. Recomposing the DVD from a new iDVD project.
    3. Changing the encoding quality from "Best Performance" to "Best Quality".
    4. Removing all iDVD transitions from the main menu and the two chapter selection menus that I have.
    5. Repairing permissions and deleting all cache files stored in the three various Library directories.
    6. Performing a cold boot and only opening iDVD to attempt the "Save As Disc Image".
    7. Deleting the assets that have been encoded by iDVD and attempting to recreate them from scratch.
    8. Waiting for the main video to be completely encoded by iDVD before attempting to create the image.
    9. Not waiting for the main video to be completely encoded by iDVD before attempting to create the image.
    10. Verfying that I have more than sufficient drive space available for the DVD. Currently the drive I am producing the project on has over 60GB free.
This seems like a pretty complete list of the things I have tried but I may have missed one or two things. Everyone of the attempts listed above has ended with the "The error #-34506 was reported…". I am fairly convinced that my hardware is not the problem. If anyone has any suggestions I would be very grateful.
    Thanks In Advance,
    Another Troubled iDVD User

While I could try an exported QuickTime from FCP
without any chapter markers, that's clearly not the
point. The chapter markers are used to denote each
game of the football season. They need to be inserted
for the navigation of the DVD to allow viewers to
instantly queue up a selected game. If I can burn the
iDVD project without any chapter markers I might as
    well use Toast 6.
Have you read http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=42973 Final Cut Express & Final Cut Pro: How to export a movie with chapter markers for iDVD
    Especially Step 8
On to your second point, if you've used iDVD to
create a project before you would already know that
its not possible to create these markers from inside
the program. They have to be inserted into the
exported QuickTime for iDVD to not only recognize
them but to create the corresponding chapter
    selection menus.
My friend..., I've used all version of iDVD since the start! I also use DVD SP - probably more than iDVD - and you can add chapter marks in DVD SP at GOP boundaries. I'm sorry for the confusion.
Thirdly, I've spent a lot of time attempting to
resolve this problem. Maybe you should spend some
time "troubleshooting" your own replies before you
give a lecture on material you clearly don't have
    mastery of.
Wow - you must be REALL frustrated to reply in that tone! Your ID shows you registered on the forums 10/24/05 so you are fairly new. That attitude won't get you a lot of help.
I suggested dropping the chapter marks to see if the problem was in your content or in the chapter marks. If the project doesn't 'fly' without your chapter marks, you know they aren't the problem.
Hopefully by now you've taken a deep breath and are willing to work with us to help you solve your problem.
On the other hand, if you are not willing to listen to suggestions submitted to you in the forums, you are wasting everybody's time

  • Ok everyone. If you have experienced the dreaded Error 1814, I can help.

Ok guys. I have been a victim of this problem twice. Error 1814. I have since gotten an iPod Video, but I've always tinkered with ideas, hoping to repair my shuffle. Well I've done it. MAGNETS. Rub a strong magnet up and down the shuffle, and maybe leave it on for awhile. How long it takes to work may vary. Magnets of course are discouraged to be left on electronics because it deletes the memory, but in this case, it's just what the shuffle needs. But after doing this, simply restore your shuffle with iTunes, and throw some new music on it. Within an hour of trying it, and actually being pretty skeptical, I was listening to Cake's "The Distance" repeatedly on my shuffle which had been out of commision for months.
    Please tell me your results.
    Happy to help.

    That might be me
I see this a lot in CS4 and Mac. It means something damaged the License verification. Usually a move from another Mac or from Time Machine.
Two choices:  Reinstall using your discs and your serial number. The easiest choice.
Or try the 150:30 fix using Terminal and the License Recovery scripts.  150:30 Start with post 11.
I would not recommend it if you have never worked with Terminal scripts.
It would be the last resort if you lost your serial number.

  • The dreaded error 4251 on iTunes

Yep, I've googled this issue a lot, have updated my chipsets and god knows what, got rid of my spyware monitoring software, and still no love. Can't burn CDs from iTunes. Can anyone help me out?

I suggest you browse this forum.  This issue has been going on for over a week now and there's hundreds of similar questions already.  It happens to some people part of the time, some people for all the time, not at all to others. Some genres for some, others for others, etc. Different versions of iTunes and systems. There's some things that seemed to help some people, though I suspect it was just coincidental or it solved a similar but unrelated issue.
It's not clear what the issue is, or where it lies.  If it's something to do with Apple's servers they are not likely to discuss it.  There was an issue like this a few months ago with the weather widgets and people kept on posting with no news until one day it suddenly started working, again with no news.  If you wish to, you can report to Apple.

  • After getting the dreaded gray/blue screen, I tried to run disk repair on the internal disk. I got an error message saying "Disk Utility can't repair this disk and restore your backed-up files. The volume Macintosh HD could not be verified completely

After getting the dreaded gray/blue screen, I tried to run disk repair on the internal disk. I got an error message saying "Disk Utility can't repair this disk and restore your backed-up files. The volume Macintosh HD could not be verified completely." What do I do now? This is an iMac and I'm running 10.6.8.

    Clean Install of Snow Leopard
Be sure to make a backup first because the following procedure will erase
the drive and everything on it. See below for how to clone a drive.
         1. Boot the computer using the Snow Leopard Installer Disc or the Disc 1 that came
with your computer.  Insert the disc into the optical drive and restart the computer.
After the chime press and hold down the  "C" key.  Release the key when you see
a small spinning gear appear below the dark gray Apple logo.
         2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
size.)  Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.  Set the number of
partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, click on Options button
and select GUID, click on OK, then set the format type to MacOS Extended
(Journaled, if supported), then click on the Apply button.
         3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed
with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
         4. When the installation has completed your computer will Restart into the Setup
Assistant. Be sure you configure your initial admin account with the exact same
username and password that you used on your old drive. After you finish Setup
Assistant will complete the installation after which you will be running a fresh
install of OS X.  You can now begin the update process by opening Software
Update and installing all recommended updates to bring your installation current.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.
You may be able to backup your data if you have an erased external drive you can use. Before you do the above but after you have opened Disk Utility you can try to clone your drive:
Clone using Restore Option of Disk Utility
      1. Open Disk Utility.
      2. Select the destination volume from the left side list.
      3. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
      4. Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag
it to the Destination entry field.
      5. Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to
          the Source entry field.
      6. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the external backup drive. Source means the internal startup drive.
Now this will only work if the drive is accessible and can be cloned by Disk Utility. Otherwise, you would need to access your drive from another Mac that you can connect via Firewire - Target Disk Mode.

I'm trying to download some purchased TV shows to my iPad Air.  I keep getting the dreaded Download Error Tap to Retry Message.  I've signed out of iTunes and back in.  I've updated my software.  I have plenty of room for them on the Air.  We are taking a long flight this week, and I wanted to have something new to watch.  I've read through lots of threads on this but I can't seem to find a good solution that I haven't tried.
If I can get them to download them on my iMac computer, can I then transfer them to my iPad?  How is this done?  (Please pardon an older lady's ignorance, and thank you for any assistance!)

  • One success over the dreaded 34506 error.

I upgraded to iLife 5 in July 05 and successfully made two movies with iDVDs both over an hour in length, therefore using Best Quality. I had chapter markers immediately after a fade out as that is the way a scene was ended and how a new chapter was started with a new clip. I guess I violated the two second rule.
Next I decided to take a movie from 2003, that had been exported back to the camera on DV tape for storage, and reload it into iMovie 5, added chapters, and then burned an iDVD. I got the dreaded 34506 error. I removed the chapter markers and still got the error. Figuring that there may be something left in plists or what ever, I reloaded the tape a second time, did not add chapters and still got the error. After reading all the posts on the subject I checked the photos used on the Theme pages and found they were in Photoshop (psd) format. After changing the Theme photos to jpg, the 34506 error still occurred.
Finally I looked at a file of photos used in that movie ( I always keep a file of all stills imported as well as scanned images) and noticed they were in psd format. I couldn't change the photos at this point in time as this was an exported movie three years old.
One of the posts mentioned exporting the problem movie to Full Quality Quick Time, importing the QT file into a new movie, and then doing the iDVD. I did this with immediate success.
During the course of the many failures, which lasted over two weeks of troubleshooting, I would frequently load a test video that was only two minutes long and make a DVD image successfully every time-even without dumping plists and deleting rendered assets. This sure looked like there was nothing wrong with iMovie or iDVD-it was the content of the movie. Somehow the (psd) photos left a signature in iMovie which iDVD did not like. (Not a very scientific description.)
The discussion pages provided the answer once again. Thank you so much.

I had this problem after upgrading my graphics card to an AMD 5450 and the solution after a couple of days of hair pulling was one I hadn't come across before in relation to this problem.
It turned out that the problem was caused by the screen refresh rate, it was set to 60Hz by default and I got the Video Error message but if I changed it to 50Hz then playback of recorded programs or watching live TV worked.

  • Crazy, unfixable error...  The dreaded icon of death.

Alright, so I'm listenin' to my iPod yesterday, and everything's goin' all jolly as I'm doin' a little jig in my chair to Low Rider.
Then, out of no where, the music stops playing.
Curiousity consuming me, I switch my attention to my iPod, and attempt to switch around to another song - which it does, but only after a minute or two of complete and utter lag. However, even though it selects the new song, the music never plays.
    Then it came:
That blasted explanation point next to the folder icon.
Figuring that it was just a slight error, I reset my iPod, my slight concerns slowing growing into much larger ones. Upon the reset, the Apple icon continues to load... UNTIL
That same icon: the folder icon of death. Then it shuts off a few seconds later and resets itself, only to continue the cycle a couple times before shutting off. This nasty cycle has continued through an over-night recharge, not even allowing my computer to recognize its existence for more than a few seconds, before it just restarts and fades off.
This, of course, presents a problem, especially when you must format the bloody thing, but are incapable of doing so when everytime you load the latest updater it reads "Plug in an iPod to update it" when it's already plugged in. For a brief moment, it will detect the iPod, but then it'll pop up with the dreaded folder icon of death, and the updater will alert "Can't mount iPod."
Does anybody have any idea as to what's goin' on? I can't figure this thing out for the life of me, and I would really prefer not to send it in to be fixed.
    With Love,
    WayTooAwesome <3<br>
      Windows XP Pro

Go and find a Mac computer, as you need it to format your iPod which previously formatted with a PC. Plug it with a Mac and it will get mount and allow you to do a Restore there, once it has ebing completed, replug with your PC (it will be mounted this time) and do a Restore back to PC version. If you can't find a Mac, go to the nearest Apple Shop and asking a favour to do it for you.

  • Call to Arms for the dreaded U052 Wrong Printhead Error

This is a "call to arms" for all of you Canon customers who have had this problem and have had their printers disabled because of it.  Please respond with the model of your printer and if you were able to fix it, what you did to fix it.  We need to put pressure on Canon to respond this product defect.  It appears to be bad firmware that does not allow the user to override the problem and to continue to use the printer even in a degraded mode.  From my investigations the problem is NOT a printhead issue - no way one can be printing fine and then have this error alert without having changed the printhead or ink cartridges! Canon, PLEASE take this issue seriously and provide a solution across the affected models.  If nothing else there should be a trade-in allowance for those printers that have been affected by this product defect. I have had many Canon printers because they have superior functional specifications. I want to be able to continue using Canon products but only if I can have confidence that this product defect will not destroy my investment. If Canon is unresponsive our next step should be to aggressively publisize this product defect on social media and on major product vendor outlet sites as negatives reviews. Forum Users, please reply with your affected model number(s) and with details of any succdessful fix procedure.

  • The dreaded 'Creative Cloud server error'

I'm getting the dreaded 'Creative Cloud server error' when trying to sync from my Mavericks MBP. I have reinstalled Creative Cloud's app, I deleted 'opm.db', made sure my file and folder names fit their guidelines, yet the error continues.  It has worked fine since I began using it a long time ago and I've not made any changes to my laptop except adding a couple of new files to the Creative Cloud folder.  I hope this is a temporary issue.  I don't like dragging and dropping into the Creative Cloud via browser window because of the 'no folder' issue.

That's how long I was with Adobe yesterday on the phone, and they still didn't help me to fix the problem.
Oh, not to mention they answered the phone after 1 hour and 26 seconds!!!
    Very frustrating!!!
