The Dreaded White Rectangle

Hi there all, id just like to point out that im new to all this so please dont baffle me with 1's and 0's or i'll be lost.
My basic problem is, when i record from my camcorder using any software, i get a white box through the middle of my recording.
I know one of you loverly people will know whats wrong.
Please help, or ill have to take it out on the wife.

TheDark, your an absolute diamond matey. I have been havin problems with this white rectangle crap for ages now, and was starting to feel a bit ripped off with my newly purchased GeForce4. I thought at the time, should i get a crappy 45 quid MX.....NO...ill pay the extra hundred and 20 and get a half decent one, after all, i need a good one to do my camcorder stuff. Then the world came tumbling down when i woke the next day to find that everything i had worked on, had the dreaded white rectangle. BUT......
.....TheDark has saved my unhairy ass. Thankyou sir/madam for giving me the ability to sleep tonight.
If any of you are wondering what TheDark's advice was, he/she suggested that i go here....

Thanks once again.
Peace to all.

  • BT Netprotect and the dreaded white screen

    I see a lot of negatives on this site about BT Netprotect but it has always worked for me.  My pc has a decent processor and memory bank so resources have not been a problem.  So you can imagine my dismay when Netprotect would not load and simply presented the dreaded white screen.  More dismay when I could not remove it using windows 7 or ccleaner.  Tried all sorts including a big old swear at the inanimate object.  Feeling better at having got my frustrations off my chest I decided that for whatever reason Netprotect had gone.   In a moment of pure genius (blush) I decided to try and reinstall.  I logged into my BT account and followed the links.  Downloaded the files and watched with childlike smugness as McAfee deleted all the old files and reinstalled new ones.   One check for updates and a full scan later and the smugness was at swmbo is gonna slap me levels.  It was worth it, it worked.  If you have the same problem it may work for you.  Downsides, stupid program made me delete Spybot and Malwarebytes as "unsafe", now reinstalled and working fine.  'Ells bells, BT labs use Malwarebytes!  Netprotect may not be perfect, is resource greedy and can frustrate you, but the white screen menace can be beaten.
    Of course when I boot my pc tomorrow (okay today now), if I see a white screen and a McAfee logo, swmbo may yet see a grown man cry.....

    Glad you got it sorted. Reinstalling often sorts out problem software, having said that I still wouldn't have BTNetprotect on my computer. I have never heard of any other antivirus giving any problems like the amount that BTNetprotect and McAfee does.

  • The Dreaded White screen (display) issue

    Hey guys,
    I have the ol' white screen problem. I can mount, restore, and everything just fine but instead of showing menu's the screen shows a white screen.
    I have tried all the 5 R's and even restoring again and again. From what i've read here (since my ipod is out of warranty) I'm pretty much screwed and will have to buy a new one. My question is if I wanted to replace the broken part myself, would this be the logic board?
    All of this started because I dropped my ipod 2ft onto carpet at work
    Thanks

    Try http://www.iresq.com
    They sell replacement parts, but not the logic board.

  • New twist on the dreaded white screen when renting movies

    I have been hit with the nasty white screen after renting a movie. After reading the discussion forum, this is apparently a "personality" issue with ATV and Apple has not yet found a fix. However, after performing the "pull-the-plug" reboot, which in the past has corrected the problem, I now have a new problem. When the main menu appears after reboot, it is frozen and it does NOT respond to the remote. The only command it recognized was the menu + "-" reset command. When it resets and comes to the screen asking for restart, diagnostics, or factory reset choices, the remote works. But when you select restart and get back to the main menu, it freezes. (I ran diagnostics and ATV says it feels fine.) For some reason, a bug is preventing atv from recognizing any remote commands. Right now I am in the 24hr movie viewing window, and I will let that period elapse to see if the corrupted white screen rented movie just dies its deserving death and releases the main menu back to my command.
    I guess my ultimate ploy would be factory reset, but then aren't I put back in the position of re-syncing my 6,000 songs, and photo library?
    Anyone else have this glitch??

    something that has never happened to me

    yes that's correct.

  • Any answer to the dreaded white screen?

    Besides "send it back to apple"?
    I'm a few months out of warranty. Everything works fine except the screen is bright white. I've searched but can't seem to find any solution other than send it back. Does anyone know what even causes this? Has anyone found a solution or sent it back to apple and found out what the problem is?

    See this.
    iPod 5th gen (with video) shows blank or white screen.
    Worth a try even though it's not specifically for nanos.

  • Any new resolution to the dreaded "white screen of death"?

    My 2nd gen. 4GB iPod Nano has been unhappy for a long time now. It still plays music, and I am still able to access iTunes, etc., but the display is either all black or all white, all the time. Since I can no longer see any menus, it plays whatever it wants. Not the best scenario, but better than not playing at all, I suppose.
    For a while, I was able to call up the Apple logo and then the menus by simultaneously pressing and holding the top and center of the control ring, but that hasn't worked in quite some time, no longer how many times I try.  As much as I enjoy ABBA, I'm a little tired of hearing them every time I power it up. I know this is a long-standing problem, and I'm hoping that by now someone has devised a solution. Any advice would be much appreciated.

    You can do an out-of-warranty replacement at an Apple Store or send it to a 3rd party repair site.

  • The dreaded white screen

    just before, i was on my macbook, and noticed it was freezing up alot, i went to force quit some programmes and it froze totally on the force quit box, after waiting 5 minutes, i gave up and manually shut down the computer, when i went to turn it back on, the chime sounded but then stuck to a white screen
    how do i resolve this as soon as possible?

    Thank you! I've tried and tried to reset it but I never get the apple icon. I never thought to let the battery completely die. Hopefully that works.
    I did notice tonight that it doesn't stay on very long after I disconnect from the computer USB. Does this sound like a larger problem? I'm trying to do what I can before I resort to shipping it in for service.
    Thank you!

  • Is using 4 white rectangles really the best way to crop something in Ai?

    I'm sure someone here has used this technique before.
    (And in InDesign as well)...
    You are drawing a new image and there is extra color or
    drawn detail that extends past the border(s)... but because Ai does not
    have a "crop" tool for the document "canvas" or the vector frames themselves, you draw four opaque white (same color as the document white) rectangles and move them onto each side of the image (up to it's border).
    Then, you fuse or flatten those four rectangles somehow.
    My questions are:
    1) If this the proper technique, is Pathfinder the right tool?
    2) If it is not the proper technique for cropping, what is? Is there a way similar to how Ps crops? It seems that the crop tool in Ai is geared towards the printing process only.

    I find that using a clipping mask for a drawing (making a mask on the top layer then masking everything) moves everything to the top layer, which is not useful for art that may get edited further later. Clipping just the objects that extend past the border, on its layer (Kurt and Ray) is something I hadn't thought of; it would preserve most of your art on the desired layers.
    I tend to use white boxes on the edges of my maps if the art doesn't extend too far beyond the borders. But clipping masks do make a neater graphic (the 0,0 of the art pops up right at the edge of the InDesign/Quark picture box, which designers appreciate). FreeHand generally remembers layers for objects once you unmask them, so I mask more in FreeHand than AI.
    On a related point - when I bring in old FreeHand art to Illustrator CS4, type on paths gets positioned badly. Usually the handles on the baseline just get shifted so one word disappears, but recently I've been finding the left and right handles are stacked right on top of each other. It's necessary (once I get the handles to APPEAR) to select the TOP of the handle to shift the pair of handles to the right, then I can grab at the BOTTOM of the pair of handles to slide the left-hand handle so the type appears and I can position it.
    The problem I run into is that certain of these steps require the white cursor, and certain steps require the black cursor, and there's no way to use the black cursor on a MASKED drawing without selecting all of it (whereas in FreeHand you can switch cursors on a subselected object in a group or mask, and edit its handles, move the type along the baseline, etc). So several times the only way to grab the offending type is to unmask the art, adjust the text, then re-mask. I may be doing something wrong, however it's quite possible it's just another Adobeism I'm going to have to work around.

  • The conversion of rectangle dimensions

    My program consists of a picture box containing repeating vertical black rectangles to form an alternating black and white rectangular pattern. The user can change the width of the black rectangles (which also changes the width of the seperating white rectangles). I have used input values ranging from 20 to 100. Does anyone know what units accompany these values? Perhaps pixels??
    The program is attached, the part of the program dealing with the drawing of the rectangles is on the first frame (frame 0) of the program.
    Thank you!!

    The units are picture control coordinates which by default are equal to pixels. This can be changed by changing the Zoom property of the picture indicator.
    A quick look shows some other problems in your code. For example:
    Why are you using strings to do the input? Why not use numeric controls?
    Stacked sequence structure are often a sign that you would want to rethink the structure of your program.
    There is no way to stop this in mid execution.
    There is no error handling for the DAQ.

  • 8900 Dreaded White Screen / Suspected Batt Issue

    Hello. I have been getting the dreaded white screen of paralysis after about 10 to 15 mins of talk time or continuous use. When re-connected to the power supply it re-boots and appears to be normal again with the batt bar showing full until the problem re-occurrs again re-starting the same cycle. Effectively this means I have to be close to a power source at all times. All suggestions welcome.

    The 8900 is an older device.. around 5 years. Have you tried a replacement battery?
    Besides reloading the software using this guide:
    http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/Device-software-for-BlackBerry/How-To-Reload-Your-Operating-S...
    not sure what else could be going on with it.  Are you able to upgrade the device?  I can't guarantee the software reload will resolve the white screen issue.

  • Strange white rectangle on the desktop

    Only just started doing this, but when Bridge is running, there's a white rectangle on the desktop, which goes away when Bridge (CS3) is quit. This happening to anyone else??

    It definitely does matter. Like I mentioned earlier, when you have a fixed width of 1,000px for your content container, your 100% width setting for your outer container will be ignored - which means priority is given to 1,000px thereby rendering the whitespace to the right as your background is again a 128px square image. One solution I can think of is to make your background image 1x1px square that you can repeat. See if this makes any difference.'
    My site, the autoscroller - I didn't use any plug-in as such. I simply used scrollTop from jQuery API and changed the settings to match . You can read about it here: http://api.jquery.com/scrollTop/
    Here's my actual function that I'm calling when a menu button is pressed to scroll the div ID associated with it to scroll to Top of the screen. Again, this works for me, as my menu is fixed to the top, unlike your site where each site has a menu bar.
    $('ul#menu li a').click(function(){
                   var id = $(this).attr("href");
                   $('html,body').animate({scrollTop: $("div"+id).offset().top},'slow');
         return false;
    $('a#link').click(function(){
                   var id = $(this).attr("href");
                   $('html,body').animate({scrollTop: $("div"+id).offset().top},'slow');
         return false;
