The DVD I burned won't play on my DVD player

I filmed my son playing a concert on my iPhone.  It is about an hour long.  I was able to make it into a quick time movie.  I figured out how to bun it on to a DVD throught Finder, but the DVD won't play on my DVD player or the Mac DVD player.  What am I doing wrong?

Did you use iDVD to create the video DVD for playing?
Open iDVD, select a theme and drag the exported QT movie file into the open iDVD window being careful to avoid any drop zones.
Follow this workflow to help assure the best quality video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.
If iDVD was not preinstalled on your Mac you'll have to obtain it by purchasing a copy of the iLife 09 disk from a 3rd party retailer like Amazon.com: ilife 09: Software or eBay.com.  Why, because iDVD (and iWeb) was discontinued by Apple over a year ago.
Why iLife 09 instead of 11?
If you have to purchase an iLife disc in order to obtain the iDVD application remember that the iLife 11 disc only provides  themes from iDVD 5-7.  The Software Update no longer installs the earlier themes when starting from the iLIfe 11 disk nor do any of the iDVD 7 updaters available from the Apple Downloads website contain them.
Currently the only sure fire way to get all themes is to start with the iLife 09 disc:
This shows the iDVD contents in the iLife 09 disc via Pacifist:
You then can upgrade from iDVD 7.0.3 to iDVD 7.1.2 via the updaters at the Apple Downloads webpage.

I downloaded a movie from the internet using Quicktime 7 Pro. I put it on a DVD so that I could watch it on my television. The disc isn't recognized and won't play on my DVD player. What can I do to get it to play?

  • DVD main track won't play on standalone DVD players

    Hi!
I have a problem and I was wondering if anybody could help me here.
So, i got a DVD which I had to reauthor so I demuxed the disc with bbdemux and got an m2v and an audio file. I could import both files to DVDSP without using compressor. Than I added a first play track which is 20seconds long and after it goes to the menu. The menu has a main play button and a button to the track selection menu. I added the demuxed files to a second track, created the chapters, linked all the buttons, defined everything about the dvd. Then I built it and then burned it. It was all working in DVD Player and VLC, then I tried in my standalone DVD player and everything worked just like I wanted until I pushed the play button in the menu and it kind of blocked, it showed me the first frame of the chapter and it stopped. Nothing happened but the timer on the DVD player was counting. I tought I might have f*d up the bitrates, so I lowered them, no difference. Then I deleted the first track, left only the menu 'cause I tought it was "confusing" him. No, then I deleted all the menus and burned the disc only with the main track but no luck... I know it has to do something with the track files but what??? I have a JVC DVD player and it always played every dvd 'till now... I don't know what's the problem... Please help! So, it kind of freezes on the start of every chapter.

so I demuxed the disc with bbdemux
You can try MPEG Streamclip to extract the original encoded files from the DVD. Probably the other demuxer did something to the original tracks.
    Hope that helps !

  • CD/DVD R discs won't play in Sony DVD player system.

I have just backed up my music and photos on CD R and DVD R discs on my new Macbook Pro. None will play on my Sony player. I previously purchased CD RW from Verbatim recorded on my Powerbook G4 and they play fine. I know there is technology change here, but what should I buy? For instance, can I still purchase discs that would play in my 4 year old dvd player or is that a waste of time? Do I need a new player?

I'd suspect the player since it is 4 years old and especially since it is a Sony who was slow to embrass that technology in the DVD players.
Before I bought my DVD player to play MP3 , I made a MP3 CDR took it to a store and played the disc in all the different models. Sony were the worst at the time. Heck within the same model one would play the disc and the other not.

  • I used the download Burn to burn my iMovie onto a dvd.  It won't play on my dvd player.  Is there anything I need to do?

I made a movie using imovie.  I have a macbook pro 11.  So I don't have iDvd.  I used Burn to burn a dvd.  It works on my computer.  But not in a dvd player.  Is there something I'm missing?

    Is there something I'm missing?
    Yes, iDVD.
Yes, there are other programs that will put a movie on a DVD.   I have tried most of the other substitutes including Toast, Burn, DVD Creator, Wondershare, and others.  None of them come anywhere near the ease-of-use and power of iDVD. IDVD is specifically designed to work with iMovie.
    http://www.apple.com/findouthow/movies/idvd.html
With iDVD you can easily and quickly create DVDs with menus and graphics almost on the level of what Hollywood can do.
IDVD is easy to get. It is available on disk as part of iLife 11.
IDVD is a wonderful piece of software and well worth the low cost of $40.  (works with all Mac OS 10.5 and newer.)

  • Dvd I burned won't play in friends mac...

Why does a slideshow that I burned a dvd of plays fine in my new macbook pro but not in my friend's older macbook?

    Hi
Most common origin to this is
    • brand of DVD e.g. Memorex, Noname and other Cheap brands usually do not work for Video - I only use Verbatim (More organic dye in these)
    • type of DVD used - DVD-R plays on more and older players as DVD+R and +/-RW is known trouble makers
    • burn speed - I set it down to x4 = less burn errors = Plays on more devices

  • I created a CD of one track from my library but it won't play on any CD player

I burned a CD of one track from my library and can see the track on the CD but it won't play on any CD player....help!  My daughter needs this track to try out for her school talent show.

Did you burn the CD as an audio CD?
If not, that's your problem. Otherwise, without more details I can only guess. You might try a different brand of disk, or if you're using CD-RW try CD-R.
    Regards.

  • Copying/burning a dvd, won't play in a dvd player

Before my disk drive was replaced I could take a dvd, copy it and burn it to a disc (i.e., make a copy for myself), ad it would pla in my dvd player
Since then when I make a copy of something and burn it, it won;t play in ant DVD player. Will play onthe computer though
What settings do I need to change?

Musicwind is right, there's no way to do what you describe without third-party tools. A commercial DVD, like what you'd be using in a DVD player, cannot be copied using the Finder or Disk Utility, due to copy protection issues. Are you using something like Handbrake to rip the DVD, or is this not a commercial DVD that you're copying?

  • I'm burning dvd's that won't play on a regular dvd player.  What am I doing wrong?  Are there some simple things to check to figure this out?  (Sorry, I know this has been asked many times)

I'm burning dvd's that won't play on a regular dvd player.  What am I doing wrong?  They play fine on computers but not on dvd players.  Are there some simple things to check to figure this out?  (Sorry, I know this has been asked many times).  Created in DVD studio pro.

    Hi
Just my thoughts to add to the excellent answers above.
    • BRAND of DVD used - Matters when doing Video-DVDs
Memorex, NoName etc cheap brands usually do NOT work
I only Use Verbatim (more organic dye in these)
    • Type of DVD - matters
    - DVD+/RW - usually results in problems
    - DL-DVDs are more problematic than SL-DVDs
    - DVD+R are a more modern sort - BUT PLAYS BADLY or not at all on older DVD-players
    I only use DVD-R
    • BURN SPEED - matters
    - Best in iDVD app - IS NOT BEST at all but results in lot's of Burn Errors = Doesn't play well or at all
I set this down to x2 or x4 max.

  • IDVD burned discs won't play on any dvd player

When I burn a dvd using Idvd they will not play on standard dvd players.
Is this a problem with anyone else?
I noticed it was a problem in the early 2000-2003 but apparently something got fixed, because I couldn't find an incident where this problem continued to occur.
I am new to the Mac world and I don't always understand the acronymns used when I read responses.  However, here is my problem.
    Burning dvd's using Idvd:
    1.  the burn seems to run and function normally
    2. when I insert the burned dvd into a dvd player one of the following things occur:
         a) loading takes a very long time, then I get a message saying "wrong disc"
          b) loading occurs fast, reads the file as a dvd, the dvd begins playing the music and showing the main menu screen, after accessing a menu option the dvd begins to play the slideshow with the music then after a minute or two, it freezes, and is no longer readable when attempting to reload it, the message is "wrong disc"
    3.  I've tried using dvd-r, dvd+r, dvd+r dual layer, and changing the burn speed to 8x, then to 4x and then to 2x.  Nothing seems to matter.
    4.  I have noticed that in Idvd the dvd type is for an older version of dvd's such as single layer 4.2 gb and double layer 7.7 gb. I'm wondering whether the Idvd software on my MacMini is up to date, even though when I check for updates under the apple it comes back saying my system is up to date.
    I'm using a MacMini running Mac OSX v 10.6.8 with processor 2.26ghz, Intel core 2 duo, memory 2gb 1067 mhz ddr3, and my dvd drive is a pioneer dvd-rw dvrts08, firmware q81f.
I really need help to fix the problem with the IDVD software or to know that I need to purchase another DVD maker software for my Mac.  The product below says my Mac is running OS X v 10.7.2 but it isn't it is running v 10.6.8 as I stated.
    URGENT!!!!

My macmini is under 2 years old.  I reviewed your list of affects and I am going down the list to determine possible cause and effect.
I did try the PRAM process.  The DVD still won't play on my DVD player but it did play on my son's Sony blue ray.  I burned it at 2x burn rate after the PRAM process completed.
I can assume that's progress.  The audio did however skip a couple of times while playing.  That is new.
I will continue down the list using different type of blank dvd's etc.
Question: As I was reading through some other issues I'm learning that Mac/Apple is discontinuing IDVD, is that correct?
Are you aware of some other software to purchase that will create dvd's on the mac?  If so, I may as well go that route rather than wasting more time using a defunct product.  What is your opinion?

  • Burned DVD-R won't play in domestic DVD player

Why a DVD-R i burn won't play in a common domestic DVD player, even the most recent and good quality ones ? Is there something else i should do before burning ?

How did you burn it? If you dragged the files to the dvd in finder and then hit burn it won't play in a dvd player, but if you used iDVD it should work.

  • I have 10.3.1, how come the CD's I burn won't play in my vehicle?

I have itunes 10.3.1, how come the CD's I burn won't play in my vehicle?

I have been having issues with edited tracks from Toast/CD Spin Doctor that I send to my iTunes library, so that I might burn them onto a CD at a later date.
For example, when I try to hear my 3:42 edited track of a tune I had just sent over from Spin Doctor to iTunes, instead of hearing 3:42 of the "edited track", I only hear the first 3:42 of the raw "unedited" track.  In other words, if my raw Spin Doctor file had 20 seconds of silence before the track started, I would hear that first 20 seconds in my iTunes file instead of the edited file.
Personally, I think Apple needs to allow us Mac users to have a "download previous version" option when serious bugs like this appear on the updates.  Seems they give Windows users links to older versions, but for us Mac users, they make it hard for us to easily find older versions.  I feel like I'm being held hostage waiting for the next version, or patch.
And when I try to report the issue to Apple, when I go to the "What version of iTunes are you using?", they still don't have version 10.3 listed in their pulldown menus (as of 7/7/11).
If you want me to plunk down money for Lion, then you better get my iTunes back to where I could use it again.
Sorry for the rant, I've been in a major vinyl transfer-to-CD groove in the last month, and this just ruins my momentum. Apple has really disappointed me.

  • Updated OSX - DVD-R's won't play now

A few weeks ago, I updated to 10.3.8, then 10.3.9, and now DVD-R's won't play anymore. The drive doesn't recognize them. These are DVD's that played fine before, in fact some of them are DVD's that I burned on this machine.

Edit, it is impossible to update 10.3.9 online to 10.4.9.
Only 10.4 up to date, 10.4 on CDs (which can be gotten from the media exchange program if you have 10.4 on DVD), 10.4 on DVD would bring you to a 10.4.9 updater compatible 10.4. Since you initially had 10.3.8 according to your initial post, something doesn't jibe about what you are saying. Where did you get 10.4 to update your 10.3.8 or 10.3.9?
Also if your machine came with 10.3, what happened to the 10.3 installer DVD that came with it?

  • Burned a dvd but, it will not play on my dvd player for tv

I created a slideshow with itunes music added in iphoto.  I tried the recommended free "burn for mac" software download.  It burned a dvd but, this will not play on my dvd player for tv.  What software title can i purchase that will burn my iphoto slideshow to a dvd that will play on typical home dvd player for tv AND on a windows pc?

some dvd players are very picky on what they will play some only
    play dvd+r some only dvd-r some can't play dvd+rw and or dvd-rw
dvd burnable is a pretty fragmented std.
