The eig() instruction in my matlab script is causing an insane object error

I have matlab script in a vi that I want to use to calculate eigenvectors and eigenvalues of a large array. I started with a small array (3x3)and it calculated them incorrectly. However when i ran the same script in Matlab the correct values are returned. On top of that when I try and save the vi after running it I get an insane object error at FPHP+DC. I tried rewriting the vi without copying and pasting etc. but it wont go away. I then simplified the vi to simple integer addition and removed the eig()instruction and error doesn't appear anymore, so it seems that the eig() instruction is causing all of this and it isn't even giving the correct answers! Where does this leave me? I can't get the e
igenvectors using the Labview vi because the array i will using eventually is (944x944) and the labview vi gives me an error saying I have exceeded maximum iterations. This is why I am using Matlab in the first place.
Thanking you in advance!!
Marion

I had a similar error message come up in the jump from LV 7.1 to LV 8.0.  It would cause a couple of hard crashes of Labview whenever I worked with one particular VI.  I found it was related to a wizard lock control that I had created in LV7.1 using the HMI Wizard options of my DSC module.  I actually had two such loops in my original program, one behaved, the other caused problems in the upgrade of the VI to LV 8.0.
I discovered this by creating multiple copies of the VI in LV 7.1 and deleting different block diagram elements from each and seeing which opened without error in 8.0 and which caused the problem until I finally discovered the problem piece of code.  It was really a divide and conquer technique.
I liked how LV 7.1 HMI wizard automatically created code that I could unlock and modify as I needed.  It seems that the HMI wizard was eliminated from the DSC module of LV 8.0 and 8.2. There were several other major changes in the behavior of the DSC module from 7.1 to 8.0 which I am still trying to learn.
If you can discover which control or what piece of code (hopefully it is only one) is causing the problem, perhaps you can delete it in the older file version, upgrade the VI, then recreate it in the newer version VI.

  • Insane object error(The string control not getting any values)

In LabVIEW 8.2 i am using the string control to get the text from the users, and initially there was no problem at the time of development it works perfectly, after building the installer,
these string controls are not getting any string input, it seems like a disabled one, but actually it was not disabled, when we try to click over that through the mouse,
that text inputting cursor was not blinking over there,I screen looks as below, some error messages are thrown from the LabVIEW like insane object error, even
now there was the same problem in the source code itself, what to do rectify this. Only this part generates error all other remaining screen panels are working perfectly.

This kind of problem can be a pain to locate. This often occurs when the wiring to or from a control or indicator is bery long, convoluted and hidden inside of structures or behind things. So first, you need to identify which VI specifically is generating the error by individually saving VIs and subVIs until you find the one that is generating the error. Now try and remember the last time that VI saved without a problem and what edits you made since then. Places where I have had this occur was when I drag-copied a control and a couple VIs into a small structure. Sometimes the wires would seem to conect up properly, but when I tried to save the VI I got this error. The solution was to disconnect all the wires associated with the VIs I had copied and rewire them.
Also, can you post the VI that is doing it? Shouldn't need the subVIs for this...

  • "The Loged On user does not have permission to use this object" error

    Hi
I've created a form that is used by a customer which allows for certain draft documents to be approved and then once approved they are created. The problem that I am having is that when the users attempt to update the changes on the form an error is logged, which is shown below:
    "Error: -3000
The Loged On user does not have permission to use this object
System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0xFFFFF448): The Loged On user does not have permission to use this object"
Once the update button is pressed then a User Defined Table and Drafts are both updated with the relevant modified UDFs from the form.
If I log onto their system then I don't seem to get any issues. To me it looks like a user authorisation problem but the ones who have used the form seem to have the relevant licences.
Do you have any idea why this error could be occuring?
    Thanks a lot.

    Hi,
Go to Administration --> System Initlization > Authorizations> General Authorizations not expand all and check if the service call is given full *Read & Write * rights to the required user.
If not then give full rights and check the add on.
    Hope it helps,

    Sorry
    The problem have solved.
When I invoke .txt .mat .exe in LabVIEW matlab script node, this files should be under '.../matlab' path. I do not kown why it is not '.../matlab/work'.And 'addpath' is useless except to 'invoke .m' files.

    Thank you so very much.
I shold of cours have realised that that was what happened but I always use the three clearing lines (close all, clear all, clc) in the beginning of a script to make sure that no old and irrelevant data corrupts my script and did not think about when the inputs were generated.
    Again, Thank you!

  • Creating a random noise (Gaussian) using Matlab Script

    Hello,
Since I only have Labview 6.1 base, I can't use the white-noise generator in Labview. I'm thinking of using the Matlab Script. I have Matlab 2006R installed in the same computer. However, I tried running the program and nothing happened (I used the help example "a=rand(50);surf(a)" in the Matlab Script.
Why it's not calling the Matlab, or is there a better way to create a Gaussian distribution in Labview 6.1 Base?
    Thanks a lot!

    Hello,
Why are you unable to use the Gaussian White Noise VI in LabVIEW 6.1?  It is under the Analyze >> Signal Processing >> Signal Generation palette.  I have attached a simple VI that illustrates creating a matrix.
If you wish to use the MATLAB® script node, let's first make sure it is working correctly.  Try opening one of the LabVIEW shipping examples.  Browse to <LabVIEW>\examples\scriptnode and open "HiQMATLAB_Fractal.llb."  Then open "MATLAB Fractal.vi."  Run the VI.  Do you get any error windows that pop up?  If not and you see a picture of a fractal appear, then the connection to the MATLAB software is working correctly.  In your VI, try creating an error out indicator from the MATLAB script node and see if any errors appear.
If you do see an error in the shipping example, it means there is a problem with the software connection.  Make sure that you have launched the MATLAB software at least once after you installed it.  This will set up the necessary connection information.  Then launch LabVIEW.  If this isn't the issue, we could try manually restoring the server commands.  Make sure LabVIEW and the MATLAB software are not running.  Go to a command prompt, browse to the MATLAB bin directory (e.g. MATLAB\R2006b\bin), and type
    matlab -regserver
Quit the instance of the MATLAB software that appears and launch LabVIEW.  If this also fails, please post again with any error information you receive.
Also, the rand function in your script will not generate a Gaussian distribution. You will need to use the randn function instead.

  • I have some software problems of running matlab script node in the LabVIEW program.

    Hi there,
I wrote a simple matlab code, like x= 1, y = x*2. Then I tried to put them into matlab script node in LabVIEW.
However, when I ran the program, I couldn't run and Labiew show some error.
Then I tried the method talked before on this forum. Please see the following link.
    http://forums.ni.com/ni/board/message?board.id=MathScript&thread.id=571
I followed the instruction and open the "command prompt," type some commands then I could run the program, and simultaneously, the LabVIEW program open "Matlab command line window" and run my labview code. However, if I didn't use the command prompt, the  "matlab command window" will not be opened by running the labview program. It would just show some error. And even if I turn on the matlab program in advance, I still couldn't run the labview program.
Is there any effecient way to deal with this problem without using "command prompt?" Because I try another PC with both matlab and labview installed on it, I "can" run my simple matlab script node on it, and it will open the matlab command line window automatically by running my code. Therefore, I thought there might be some software linking problems in the previous PC I used . Do you have any ideas?

Hi, and thanks for the post! I hope your well today.
    This may help,
MATLAB® version 2006b (7.3) and version 2008a do work with LabVIEW
8.20. This problem can occur if a new version of the MATLAB® software
is installed along with a previous installation, which is then
uninstalled. The uninstallation of the older MATLAB® software results
in removing the ActiveX/COM components LabVIEW uses. This can cause the
MATLAB® script node in LabVIEW to stop working. There are three
    solutions to this problem.
Uninstall the MATLAB® software and reinstall it. This should install the necessary ActiveX component.
Restore the MATLAB® automation server. Browse to the \bin directory (e.g. MATLAB\R2006b\bin) and type matlab -regserver ,
which will reset the registry settings and start the server. The server
can then be closed and the MATLAB® script node will work properly again
in LabVIEW. LabVIEW may need to be restarted if VIs are open that
    contain MATLAB® script nodes.
Leave both versions of the MATLAB® software installed.

  • I can't find the MATLAB script node in labview

Is there an extra download that I need to get this MATLAB script node?

The HIQ and MATLAB script nodes are only available in the full and professional development systems. If you have one of these versions, these nodes should be under the Mathematics>>Formula palette.
If you have the base package of LabVIEW, you will not have access to these script nodes. Details about which options are included in which development packages can be found at:

  • MATLAB script in executable

I made an exe out of a VI that uses a Matlab script. When I run the exe, I get a 1047 error (failed to send variable to script server) even though that error does not appear when I run the VI. I looked at the knowledge base document 1JNEPGU0 and did what it suggested, even though I shouldn't have to since I am on LabVIEW 6.1. I also am using the updated matscript.dll, per knowledge base document 300A6NDT (the VI did not run until I updated this.)
My software is Windows XP, LabVIEW 6.1, Matlab 7.0.4 (R14)
    Thanks!

    Hi Nick,
I think you are well aware that you indeed CAN interface with MATLAB 7.0 (R14) from LabVIEW 6.1 - that is part of what the KnowledgeBase 300A6NDT
covers. Since you already got that working in the Development System,
the issue must be caused by the fact that you are using an executable
in stead of a VI. Did you follow the instructions specific for executables:
"If using the MATLAB or Xmath Script Nodes
in built applications you will need to also replace the appropriate
DLLs located in the National Instruments\Shared\LabVIEW Run-Time\VERSION\script directory."
If you already did that, we must look elsewhere for a solution. The
following KnowledgeBase also covers an issue with executables and
    MATLAB:
Why Does My Executable Hang When It Is Opened When I Use A MATLAB Script Node?
If this doesn't work, please let me know the following:
Are you running the executable on the computer that has the Development System installed?
Is MATLAB open when the executable is called?
What instructions  are you using to build the executable?
    Hope this helps!

  • Retrieving data from a MATLAB script node

I am creating a VI that imports and manipulates arrays of data points and then plots them in Labview. When I run my Matlab script in Matlab there are no errors and all the assigned variables exist in the form that they should exist but for some reason Labview cannot retrieve all of them (they just show up as zeros). There are no errors in the script as far as I can tell. Do you have any idea what could be going wrong?

    Hi,
You can use the MatLAB window opened by LabVIEW to debug your script.
Check the values of your variables in the MatLAB window and try to find out where the data goes wrong. I've experienced many problems with LabVIEW MatLAB nodes on different PCs, and many times legal MatLAB operations would go wrong in the script node. You will need to find out which line exactly does your MatLAB code not executing correctly and try to modify the MatLAB codes from there.
    Hope this help,
    Dan

  • Matlab script no longer works after upgrade of matlab

First of all im using labview 7.1.1 to execute a vi which uses some labview scripts to do the bulk of the number crunching and  labviews excellent interface.
The problem happened when i recently was forced to use Matlab 7.1 R14 SP3 because some of my other routines required this.  After i had upgraded matlab and tried to run the labview vi, all i keep getting is an error no. 1050 from the matlab script object.
Now the most infuriating thing about this is that it is such a non descript error, i mean , what does it actually mean? and as such i dont even know where to start in solving this problem.
Has anyone solved this problem or indeed had it themselves, im at the end of my tether with it now.
    Thanks for your help
    Neil

This is a known problem between different version of Matlab and LabVIEW. Mathworks changed the Matlab interface with version 7, which broke a lot of LabVIEW code. Which version of Matlab were you using before? You can try searching these forums for "matlab error 1050 labview" and you'll see what I mean. Typically he problem is the version of the matlab.dll that's in the LabVIEW installation directory. You can try the stuff suggested in this article.

  • Error produced when trying to pass variables to a Matlab script

For some reason, LabVIEW produces an Error 1047 (Unable to pass variable to the script server) whenever I create an input variable to a Matlab code block.
Outputs work fine (for example, connecting an output "a" to a Matlab code block that says "a=rand(50)" correctly produces a 50x50 array of random numbers that can be displayed in LabVIEW). However, creating any kind of input node, whether or not the associated variable is mentioned in the MATLAB script, brings up an error 1047.
Any ideas what could be causing this? I'm using LabVIEW 7.0 and MATLAB 7 (R14). I've read the article
    >here and that's not the problem, and I've also updated my matscript.dll to the latest version, 7.0.0.2, which also made no difference.

    For what its worth,
I work in a company with a lot of Matlab users, and I,m programming in Labview and Matlab.
When I create a testrig measurement I always have to convert data into Malab format, so I used the script server a lot... exept we have a limited pool of Matlab
licenses so my work was halted whenever the licences where gone.
    So I wrote a Write2Matlab vi.
This vi can log data from a measurement and write it in a Matlab readable file format (Matlab6 R12).
After logging you can append more data. It works with(Double,Single,Int32,Int16,U16,U8,String) matrix see for yourself in an example (Write2matlab_test.vi).
Perhaps this is an alternative solution for your problem.
Please send me a reply if you find it usefull.
