The end of guest networks in Germany using Telkom speedport W921?

Just a note worth thinking about.
I am amazed at how little attention is given to above subject and the lack of clear answers in this forum and elsewhere. It seems the new generation of VDSL speedports no longer support Time Capsule/airport to implement guest networks, if the user is not ready to give up on IP based telephony or land line telephony for that matter. The current system of anlalog and isdn telephony will be phased out by Telekom in the mid term, which means that no telephony with current land line numbers will be possible, if the speedport is relegated to a pure modem, which for now worked fine, when configuring the TC as the router with guest net work capability. Using the proposed fast internet via the speedport W 921v only alows the TC to be used in bridge mode, which excludes the implementation of an isolated guest network.
Flatly put you can either use the high speed internet with all features except guest network by airport and TC, or you have to abstain from land line telephony using your know telekom numbers. This hypothesis is for German users only.
Any workable solutions to this problem would be higly appreciated. And maybe Apple should address this problem in the architecture of airports and TC's as well.

The restriction is purely Apple..
I have an Asus RT-AC66U and it has no problem creating up to 6 different networks apart from the main network. It makes no difference of what mode it is running. Each of those networks can have their own individual settings including isolation or not. This is using almost the same hardware as the latest AC version Airport. So the answer is obvious.. relegate your apple router to its best function.. an AP.. and buy a router.. a real one.

What do you mean that you can't "call" an iPad in the UK??  That doesn't particularly make sense.  You can email to an iPad or text them, but the iPad is not a phone, so how do you expect to "call" them??
    Hope this helps

Presumably your internet connection is working because you were able to post here. If you go to your account on Adobe.com are you showing that the subscription is paid? Are you logged in through the CC Desktop App? Will it update (Quit it from the gear icon, then restart it)?

  • Can Airport Express extend the private and guest networks simultaneously?

Can the Airport Express be used to extend the private and guest WiFi networks coming from the base station simultaneously, or can it only be an extension for one of the two at a given time?

Can the Airport Express be used to extend the private and guest WiFi networks coming from the base station simultaneously
Yes, either by a wireless connection or Ethernet connection to the base station.....assuming that both the base station and extender are using firmware 7.6.3 or higher and AirPort Utility 6.3 is used to configure both AirPorts, which must be dual band models.

  • The end of jagged edges in iMovie using stills

It took an astonishing 14 months, but I have finally beaten the dreaded jagged edge quality issue in iMovie when using still photos. If you're reading this, you're a sufferer. How could the software be so bad as to ruin every picture you put in there? It's all about knowing the settings, and that can be difficult without some help.
It feels as though I've really gone through the mill with this programme, but here's your fix - or at least, a fix that worked for me.
Initially, I was using the first version of iMovie and the first version of OSX. In that environment I found the problem unsolvable. I didn't get anywhere until I upgraded to Panther (10.3.9) and iMovie HD 5.0.2. Here there are many more options and settings, but it is still a minefield. I tried almost every setting there is, and have the 'coasters' to prove it.
My fix is for widescreen. Choose HDV720P. Select your frame rate in the preferences box at 25 (which is PAL for use in the UK) And that's it. It produces a stable, high quality movie where all the effects available work perfectly - and no jagged edges!
If, as I do, you use Photo to Movie for more adventurous multiple pan and scans for sections of your movie, export from that software using 'higher quality' on rendering, select 16.9 widescreen, and DV stream PAL as your export format. This stops iMovie from trying to resample it, and very possibly giving a choppy or jerky movement to your imports. Using the above settings will give a perfect result, and you can freely use iMovie's transitions to join an imported item to footage created in iMovie.
I've now produced many very successful movies on these settings. It works for me, I really hope it works for you. iMovie can drive you up the wall when it doesn't give the results you know it can be capable of.
    Quicksilver G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Thanks for the idea, Steve. I like working with the HDV 720P high def projects for slideshows too. The quality is awfully nice to work with and it delivers projects that will work far better with tomorrow's hardware. Although we can't burn HD DVDs yet, hopefully that day will come soon, and the HDV slideshows we create today will look very good on the HDTVs we own tomorrow. They look good today, but they will look even better tomorrow.
It should be noted, however, that it's not necessary to create an HDV project to avoid the jaggies on still images. The cause of the jaggies in DV projects -- the type of projects we mostly make -- is well known and can be avoided. It doesn't require third-party software like Photo to Movie, but it does require avoiding a bug.
iMovie adds the jaggies after we press the Create iDVD Project button in the iDVD tab of iMovie. When that button is pressed, iMovie will ask permission to render any UN-rendered clips, including any unrendered KB images. If you grant permission to render, iMovie adds the jaggies while rendering those images.
If the clips have been previously rendered by Ken Burns, or if you refuse permission to render after pressing the button so iDVD renders them later, you don't get the jaggies.
I use Ken Burns to render images as they are imported, which it does with great quality. Once rendered, iMovie won't ask to render those images again. One reason I render with Ken Burns is so I can grant iMovie to render OTHER clips when it asks permission.
Ken Burns will render the image if the KB checkbox is turned ON when the image is imported. So turning on the checkbox avoids the bug.
If the checkbox isn't on when you import an image, you can select that KB clip in the timeline later, turn the checkbox ON, and Update the image.
Regrettably, once iMovie has added jaggies to clips they cannot be repaired. It's necessary to re-import the image and discard the flawed clip.

  • Trying to upgrade my i-phone 3 operating system to ios-5.  The program seems to download fine, but at the end it says network run time error and then I have to cancel it out and try again.  Tried 5 times and I can't upgrade the system.  help?

I am trying to upgrade the operating system on my i-phone 3 to ios-5.  I download the program and it runs and downloads.  When almost finished, an error occurs that says Network run time error.  This cancels out the download.  I have tried 5 times with the sdame result.  Can anyone help?  Thanks

This is asked and answered frequently... a simple search of the forums would have revealed that disabling any Anti-Virus and Firewall software on the computer prior to downloading will rectify the issue.

  • Does having a guest network decrease the power of the main network?

I set up a guest network when I set up my Airport Extreme ... not sure why I did this exactly. I have moved into a larger home and now have some issues with the router reaching the entire unit. (It does actually cover it all ... but very weak in the farthest areas from the router.) Does the guest network take power away from the primary network. In other words, if I reset the router without the guest network, would I be better off?
    THANKS.

When you enable the Guest network, the bandwidth is split between the Main and Guest networks, so performance wise, it would make sense to only use the Guest network feature when you really have "guests".
Now, if you turn the Guest network off...whether you will actually "see" any improvement is open to question. Worth a try.
To turn off the Guest Network....
Open AirPort Utility - Click Manual Setup
Click the Guest Network tab below the row of icons
Remove the check mark next to "Enable Guest Network"
Click Update to save the changes and the AirPort will restart in 25-30 seconds.
If you need more wireless coverage, you might want to look at adding another AirPort Extreme or AirPort Express to "extend" the wireless signal.

  • Anyone know why my Iphone 4 will not update to the 5.0? It gets to the very end and says network timed out error 3259, Anyone know why my Iphone 4 will not update to the 5.0? It gets to the very end and says network timed out error 3259

Anyone know how to fix this problem..... I am trying to update and download the latest version for my phone and it gets all the way to the end and says network timed out error 3259 or something. I have tried a so many times and get the same answer. I have restarted the computer, internet, etc. NOTHING. HELP!!!

Are you doing this over a wireless network.  This happened a long time ago when we had DSL. I got sick of it and went to broadband thru our cable company.
If you are using  wireles router, use a  cable and connect your computer via the cable to the modem or wireless router if you have a location for the cable upon the wireless router.     I think it is a cat 5 cable that connects the computer to your modem or wireless router. This way you Internet should not time out.
I hope this helps you.  It is hard to identify the issue not knowing your Internet connect setup. Some modems and wireless routers have more Port options.

  • HT4145 Does the new Airport Extreme allow "guest network" setup across all my Airports on my network? I have 1 Airport as a router and 6 others as WAP's (bridged)

Does the new Airport Extreme allow "guest network" setup across all my Airports on my network? I have 1 Airport as a router and 6 others as WAP's (bridged)

I assume that all of your WAPs are hard wired on the network.
If.....all of your WAPs are simultaneous dual band Apple AirPort devices like an AirPort Extreme or new AirPort Express.....and.....you have firmware version 7.6.3 (now 7.6.4) installed on all the AirPorts.....and.....you use AirPort Utility 6.3.1 to configure the devices......in theory.....it should work.
I don't have 6 WAPs, but I do have 3 and the network works perfectly allowing extension of both the "main" and "guest" network.

  • How can I have different access control for the guest network (different than the main network)?

I am trying to control my main wireless network with access control via mac id with no password. I wanted a separate guest network with password access and no access control. However, the only way that the guest network works is if I specify unlimited access as the default. Is what I am trying to do possible.

I am trying to control my main wireless network with access control via mac id with no password.
Definitely not a recommended method for security. MAC addresses are easily cloned by anyone who wants to do so with free tools available on the Internet. An unwanted guest will be on your network in less than a minute if they want to be.
Strongly recommend that you use WPA2 Personal security with a non-dictionary password to protect your network.

Unfortunately, Apple does not allow separate Access Control for the "main" and "guest" networks. It's all or nothing, I am afraid.
Likely, the  "best" way to set up Access Control is change the default rule to No Access, Then you will need to enter in the details for every device that you want to allow to connect for both the "main" and "guest" networks with the time limits for each device.

  • EA6500 - using other DNS server only applies to Guest network?

I have an EA6500. I use OpenDNS.org as my DNS server to provide additonal filtering. I have added the Guest network option to separate my network access.
When I change DNS server settings on the EA6500 to those for OpenDNS, I've found they only apply to the Guest network. For the 'regular' network, the DNS server provided by Comcast (my cable provider) is used. I have verified this by connecting various devices to both the regular and Guest networks and checking which DNS server is in use.
I assume this is a bug in the firmware? Or am I doing something wrong? Please advise.

    You're welcome
Since we're into really in getting this possibly resolve, I suggest you try rolling back the firmware to the classic version then let's see.

  • HT3819 Can you use a "guest network" for home sharing?

When I have my Macbook, AppleTV, and Iphone 5G all signed into a guest network my ipod won't recognize AppleTV. However, if I use a network that isn't a guest network it works just fine.
The guest network has a better signal than the non-guest network. That is why I want to use it.
Can a guest network not be used for Home Sharing?

    No

  • Extending the guest network

For some reason, the guest network from my Dual Band AirPort Extreme does not show up in the list of networks on my wireless N AirPort Express. The private network shows up. Can I not extend the guest network.
To go one step further, I don't suppose the express could extend both the private and guest networks. You would probably need two for that right?

I have a similar need. Two business customers want to make wireless access available over the entire area of their operation without letting users gain access to their internal network. As has been said by everyone on all the posts I've been on that we can surely extend the Main SSID network but not the guest. Bob Timmons has responded in other posts that this is not possible at this time and that it is not a feature enabled by APPLE. The only solution these customers have is to obtain another IP address from their provider and install a second router on that network. Not quite as elegant as Apple's Airport Extreme where you can monitor both networks from one login.

  • Auto login wifi guest network

    hi all,
we running an iPad pilot within our company and I'd like to use the internal wifi guest network. the guest network is using a loghin page with userid and password and a little checkbox to accept the terms.
when i connect with the ipad (and iphone as well) and fill in the required fields it nicely connects. but after sleep or a reboot it keeps coming with the login page and needs the uid/pw/checkbox. I can make the ipad remember the uid/pw and it fills them in the login page but it keeps wanting the checkbox.
there should be some automatic protocol to auto login so I connect to the company wifi just like it is at home (i know, wpa2 at home is completely different, but for the end user is isn't
is there an option somewhere in Iphone config util? Can I pre-deploy guestnetworks with ipcu?
    anyone?
    cheers,
    emiel

This is not an iPad / iPhone issue. This is an issue with the way the network is configured in regards to authentication.
Just a guess, but I'm betting you don't have the cooperation of the IT department in this venture, do you? If you have a separate, secure internal network, You may be able to convince them to allow the iPads access to that network instead. The fact that you're trying to use the guest network tells me that IT either doesn't know about this or has prohibited their use on the company network.
That, or the company contracted out the configuration of the network and no-one knows how to get around it.
This wouldn't by chance be a hotel, would it?
