The Endless Battle With Iphone Syncing

I've been having nothing but problems syncing my reasonably new iPhone with my contacts. When I first got it, I immediately entered contact info into the iPhone itself.
I put in some numbers, some names, a couple pictures for my contacts. Then when I first synced the phone, I got an error message that iTunes couldn't sync the phone with my contacts because an error occurred while merging data.
Through some experimentation, I found that I could sync the iPhone to my addressbook as long as there were no pictures in the contacts. If I tried to put a picture in a contact on the computer, it just wouldn't transfer to the phone. If I tried to put a picture on the phone, I would get an error message when trying to sync to the computer.
I tried all of the regular fixes, i.e. resetting iSync, reinstalling iTunes, trashing and rebuilding AddressBook. Nothing seemed to work. Fed up, I completely reinstalled Mac OS from my restore discs. After a lot of work and trouble, I finally had my iPhone syncing contacts back and forth with my computer, including pictures. For a week.
Until last night.
For some inexplicable reason, it just stopped. I plugged in my phone to sync, went to do something, and came back to see the dreaded popup error message about not being able to merge data. So my first instinct was to use the option to replace the contacts on the phone with the ones on the computer. In a terrible turn of events, all that did was completely erase every contact on my phone. So at this point I can't even tell who's calling me or who I'm calling without looking up their number on my computer's addressbook.
As an experiment, I made a dummy contact entry on the phone with a gibberish name and synced the phone. The contacts on the phone and computer stayed the same. I deleted the contact on the phone, and again synced to the computer using the 'replace all' option. It came back. The gibberish entry came back to my phone after I deleted it. Is it saved somewhere on my computer? Is there some secret addressbook list other than the information stored in /Library/Application Support/Address Book that iTunes ACTUALLY syncs to? I'm at my wits end here. I just want a phone that will WORK without me living in fear of doing destructive restores on my computer every week.
God, if ANYONE could help me with this it would be miraculous. I haven't found any reports of problems exactly like this, but I've found some that are similar. As I said, I tried the usual remedies like resetting iSync preferences and reinstalling iTunes, but I can't get anything to work. I've restored my phone probably a dozen times and my computer half as much. This is frustrating to no end.

I too have been fighting the same issues. Sometimes synch works and sometimes it doesn't. It is an endless process - the synch function can run for hours and never complete. I have re-installed iTunes dozens of times and have spent - to date - over 32 hours on the phone with apple support - I have two product specialists looking into it. The first three phone folks basically could do nothing - one even suggested that iPhones will not synch with Outlook 2003....the product specialists have been unable to help. I have replaced t he phone thru a warranty exchange at the store - and still nothing. When it does work it's great and then I dont synch for a day or two it loses all connectivity and will not synch. I also canot ustilize exchange....it will not recognize our network and I have had some of the best IT folks in the country try to synch it to an exchange server. I have a number of friends having the same issues - Apple has really dropped the ball on this one....it's back to a Blackberry for me.

Mercedez Benz COMAND System not recognizing iPhone 5 after iOS 8 update, can we expect the same result with iPhone 6 or 6 plus?
I'm planning to purchase the 6 plus, but I need to know from where.whom will the fix for this problem emerge.

My new iPhone 6 paired perfectly with my Mercedes system.  That said, on your iPhone 5, reset your network settings and then try to pair it again.

  • Using the same keyboard with iPhone and MacMini. Neat!

    So Folks,
I bought a wireless kb and it works with both my iPhone and my mac. (not at the same time of course).
This is how you can do it too:
    1) Sync the kb with the iPhone first
    2) Turn off the phone's BT and sync the kb with your Mac.
    3) Whenever the computer is off, you can press the KB power button to use it with the iPhone
    4) To use the kb with your mac, turn off the iPhone's BT. Press the KB power button while you start your computer. (You can turn the iPhone's BT on again as soon as the kb begins to work with the Mac).
    5) You can repeat steps 3 or 4 at will. So two devices one kb. Neat!
    Regards

    Hello:
A BT device may only be connected to one thing at a time.  To switch to another device, one needs to delete it from the one it is currently connected to.

  • My Calendar doesn't update with iPhone sync even though it then updates my iPad

My Calendar on my iMac doesn't update when syncing with iPhone (the most updated device on my Calender), even though it then updates after I sync my iPad? By this I mean it updates the system on my iMac because it then passes it onto my iPad. Help PLEASE??????

Might help if you stated which App this was.
In the email iTunes receipt that you receive there is a Report a Problem link with which you can communicate a problem with each purchase to Apple.

  • Data security with iPhone sync to First Class over Rogers network

I manage about 20 iPhones over the Rogers network in Southern Ontario. We use them to sync Contact and Calendar info to our First Class email system and to collect email via an IMAP connection to First Class. I've got some users concerned about data security when they sync their calendars and contacts and about the vulnerability of their email. Most of these concerns come from former BlackBerry users who felt their data was encrypted with a BlackBerry and now isn't with the iPhone. Oh ya, I've set up the calendar and contact sync by using instructions my Apple rep gave me. Basically you set up an Exchange account and leave out the domain name and the iPhone syncs with First Class perfectly.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks

The iPhone's Mail client supports SSL for the incoming and outgoing mail server, but supporting a connection using SSL depends on the email account provider. If you control this, enable connecting to the incoming and outgoing mail server via SSL and require doing so when accessing the account with the iPhone's Mail client.
I don't know what security is included when connecting to an Exchange server via ActiveSync for over the air syncing for contact info and calendar events, but since this is used by businesses, the connection should be secure.

All worked OK with ISO 6.

    Hello CraigNicholson
You would need to sync with iTunes to get that process to work for you. Check out the article below for more information on how to resolve that issue to get the proper token to use Push Notifications again.

  • Issues with iPhone syncing

when i first got an apple device [ipod], my parents set it up so i had an apple id under my mom's name and that all my purchases/receipts would go through her.
    i was fine with that.
then i got an ipod touch, and again, because i didn't have my own credit card and all my music was under her email's apple id, i had to continue using it.
then i got an iphone, and it's still under her email because of my music and apps.
i recently synced up my iphone for the first time with my mac under the same apple id i've been using for the past several years.
my mom decided to sync up her iphone for the first time ever, and decided to do it under the same email i'd be doing it under.
how do i stop the syncing of contacts and apps and favourites and whatnot between our phones?
is there anyway for her to change her apple id to another one, without resetting her iphone?

Connect the phone, in iTunes click on its name, then the Info tab in iTunes. Select iCal and Address book to sync your contacts. Your mom should do the same thing for her phone and computer; set it to sync with whatever apps she has on the Dell for addresses and calendar (such as Outlook). There's no poblem if you have different computers; your backups will be separate. You probably want to turn off automatic download of content to each of your phones (Settings/Store). This will keep all of your content separate except for content you want to share.
You will need to set up separate iCloud email addresses if you use iCloud, and turn off contact and calendar syncing with iCloud.

  • Help with iPhone sync/mail app. crashing

Hey all, I've now spent the better of 3days on the forums and have tried several approaches. Here's the problem: During syncing all is fine until iTunes starts to sync my mail (.Mac), at which point it freezes and an error message appears stating: that "iTunes could not sync mail accounts to the iPhone because the iPhone canceled the sync". Furthermore, the Mail app on the phone keeps crashing. The screen appears and starts to load my emails and once complete the screen goes black and returns me to the home page. Now, I did try the trick of deleting the AppleMobileDeviceHelper.app and was able to successfully sync the mail, however, the app still crashes on my phone. And when I put the AppleMobileDeviceHelper.app back in the folder, and try to sync, of course it freezes during the backup of the mail syncing. Help, help, my girlfriend is sick of me and this phone, I'm a bit wigged out at this point.
Thanks in advance to any takers.

You can do either/or. I would go with a backup since it has your contact info, email, etc. If you go from new, you will have to setup everything again.

  • When will apple fix the bending problem with iPhone 6 and 6 ?

I would like to calmly and rationally talk for a moment. On the internet and with people so invested in a company's products that can be hard to do. I find it very irritating reading people saying it is a hoax while I'm sitting here with a bent plus myself. First off, most people don't take major mainstream news companies seriously anymore. So CNNMoney isn't where anyone needs to be researching. However there are multiple other people who demonstrate this problem. So check YouTube and remember you'll find what you search for. So, if you search for iPhone 6 plus doesn't bend you'll find videos of people trying to prove it doesn't bend. It is getting ridiculous, XBOX VS PLAYSTATION, Creationists vs Evolutionists, iPhone vs Android. Seriously, I have a friend with an HTC One M8 and another friend who just got the regular iPhone 6. I told the guys about the reasoning behind the bend. "All aluminum bodied phones do it" my iPhone friends says yep that's true and my HTC friend comes over and asks me to bend his phone. I said no at first because i was afraid i might actually break it... He never put a case on his phone btw... He talked me into it and I couldn't bend it at my full force i barely saw it arch. After much more research I found out why that might be. THE ONE THING APPLE KEEPS PUTTING OFF. The screen on high end Android devices is Gorilla glass very hard to break and hard to bend. Maybe it is time I go back to Android. Logically they have better phones when you don't think about if its Apple or Android. Well I am sure I will get hate messages and grammer corrections and really intelligent comebacks but I don't care honestly.

Prove you have a bent Plus.  Post a picture, but be advised, I work for a technology company and if you post a picture of a bent phone that can be easily found through Google, I'll report you.

  • Trouble with Iphone syncing

My Iphone has trouble syncing. Its a hand-me down phone from another friend. I cannot sync my Iphone to another computer and when I try to sync with wifi, it says it is not able to sync and sync would resume when my "friends-pc" is available. The device isnt shown in the itunes sidebar either

Have you restored the iPhone once in your possession?  Since it was synced on your friends computer wifi syncing will also be looking for that computer.
As for the device not showing up in iTunes try the Assistant.

  • Having issues with iphone sync

i have a 1st gen iphone that hasnt given me any trouble till tonight!! i have my been using itunes on a old pc to sync my iphone to. tonight i'm trying to sync iphone to my new mac mini so i can update to 3.1 and it keeps telling me that i'm basically going to lose everything because i've been syncing to the pc for like 2 years now. now heres the real kicker!! i'm not running outlook on the pc because i hate the program and refuse to buy microsoft office just for that program!! With that being said i've never backed up any of my contacts, or calendars! so my question is how do i get my contacts, calendars, photos, and music imported to my mac mini without losing this info??

Follow these directions, & you will be OK.
Launch iphoto(if you have it), connect your phone & import your photos into iphoto, only the photos in your camera roll can be imported this way, without third party software, you will lose the rest. Before you connect your phone to the new computer's itunes, launch itunes and make sure you "authorize" this computer(Store, Authorize this Computer). Next go to Address book and enter one contact, it can be a fake contact if you like. Do the same with iCal, again it can be a fake entry. When you connect your phone to itunes & get the pop up message, cancel out. Now, go up to File, Transfer purchases from this ipod to this computer. All of your purchased content will now be transferred to your new computer(music & apps> you will lose saved data in the apps). Make sure that you select manually manage & not auto sync when your phone is connected.
Now, if you do the above you will only lose photos that are not in the camera roll & music you may have ripped on your own. If you want to keep this stuff, then you will have to purchase 3rd party software like "phoneview", there are others, you can google to find more.
Now you can decide what you want to do. When you hit sync, if that's your choice, make sure you select merge during the sync process for ical & address book.
Remember, the iPhone only supports syncing with one computer at a time.
