The external keyboard doesn't react

The external keyboard doesn't react anymore. At first only some keys, now the whole system is blocked. What can I do?

I have installed Windows on my iMac, but now i have the problem, that when i boot using Windows, my mouse and my keyboard doesn't react...
I have tried it with my wireless Apple Keyboard, my wired Apple keyboard, my Logitech Mouse and with my Apple Magic Mouse. But if I move the mouse, the cursor on the screen doesn't moves.
I have installed all drivers from the WININSTALL-Drive, created while installing windows and I also downloaded the drivers from the Apple Homepage.
If I start Windows in safe mode, the mouse and the keyboard reacts!
Do you have any ideas, how I can fix this problem?

Well first try booting from your restore disk or a retail installer. If you still have a problem there try resetting PRAM and NVRAM:

esp the part about open firmware.
If none of that works you might have a capacitor problem even tho' you're not on the list. I had 2 eMacs that were in the shop with similar problems and both were repaired on recall.

Got the "apple firewire ntsc" choice to show up even if grayed out and "missing" under "audio/visual" menus by recreating choices in Easy Setup under "final cut pro" MENU thank GOODNESS because I was reading horror stories on here about this under another thread with someone trashing preferences, reinstalling and the works and still not getting it to show up...on my search now for an analog/digital converter up at b&h...find it odd that the s video connector wouldn't show the crt monitor when I put both displays through the 3870...I switched it back to see if it worked again when only the one dell monitor display was there and there it is again mirroring the screen display on my desktop...just can't be seen as an "external monitor" in fcp...couldn't find anything specific in the shane ross threads to this. I'm sad the program doesn't just see the s video connection though the 3870 though my computer does fine and will query up at b&h in regard to what might be affordable as far as a digital/analog converter. It's also weird in itself that when I put the two dell monitors on the one card my computer no longer could see the s video crt connection...makes no sense. Will report in later as to what I discover up at b&h as I'm sure there's a world of people out there using this sony crt monitor still even into the upgrades with computers and software so I imagine therein lies the solution. Thanks again and I'll report in as to what hardware might be suggested for me.

My new wireless keyboard doesn't have a page down key. Very customer-hostile, at least in Office Apps. The list of available keyboard shortcuts doesn't inclue Page Down. Anyone know how to program a keyboard shortcut for Page Down?

I've connected my macbook pro (os 10.6.8) to an external display, but it will not go into clam shell mode! When I close the lid the laptop goes to sleep, and I am unable to wake it using the external keyboard or mouse.

A rundown of what I've tried:
Adjusting energy settings to try to prevent sleep
Pluging the USB keyboard and wacom tablet directly into the laptop (as opposed to a usb hub)
My laptop's power cable is connected
My display (a Vizio TV) is recognized in the System Preferences panel
I'd been using this TV for about a year with my older Macbook Pro (OS 10.5.8), though using a different wireless keyboard and mouse
***Update: The issue seems to lie with the keyboard and wacom tablet. I am trying to use a wireless Case Logic keyboard (with dongal) and wired wacom tablet to wake the Macbook Pro in clamshell mode. To experiment, I tried using my Logitech wireless keyboard & mouse set (also dongal) that I had been using before and it wakes the computer without any problems! However, I really need to be able to use my wacom tablet. If I switch to the tablet after waking the computer using the Logitech keyboard & mouse it works, but once the computer sleeps it won't work anymore. I could keep switching back and forth I suppose, but it's sort of a pain. There has to be an easier way! Any ideas why the wired wacom tablet is unable to wake the computer in clamshell mode?

So your keyboard or mouse won't wake the Mac when you close the lid correct? Try resetting the SMC and pram
Shut down the computer.
Disconnect the MagSafe power adapter from the computer, if it's connected.
Remove the battery.
Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
Release the power button.
Reconnect the battery and MagSafe power adapter.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Resetting NVRAM / PRAM
Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
Release the keys.

The external preloader doesn't wait?

Hello! I have a new dilemma concerning external preloaders.
Now I found out that sometimes external preloaders don't wait to load the entire swf file before this last one runs.
I read a few tutorials, specifically this: http://sierakowski.eu/list-of-tips/45--two-ways-of-preloading-in-actionscript-3.html.
I understood the concept and I applied both explained methods, but still couldn't find a solution: the swf file runs before the preloader finishes to load.
Can anybody help me?

It was MY problem. I got confused and I should be more systematic and organised with my files.

The Dvorak keyboard doesn't work

I set my setting as dvorak but it doesn't work, the keyboard is still normal.

Figuring that it at least won't hurt, I submitted the following feedback at the link below.
Maybe if lots of people ask for this feature, there'll be more chance they'll consider it.

I own both an ipad 2 and iPad 1. Both allow for a hardware keyboard layout of Dvorak, but iOS 5 does not have a software keyboard layout in Dvorak.
The Dvorak layout is a high efficiency keyboard layout that places the most commonly used English vowels and consonants under the touch-typist's home keys and is designed to speed up typing. This is as opposed to the Qwerty layout which was created to slow down the typist so that manual typewriters would not jam (and how long has it been since you've used a manual typewriter!!:)
I've been using Dvorak for 11 years, so it's really difficult to change back to the inefficient Qwerty layout.
Could I please ask you to consider adding a software Dvorak keyboard layout to the iPad? It would be a wonderful addition.

Touchpad of the Zen Touch doesn´t react anymore..

I got my old Zen Touch(20GB) for maybe more than 2 years and it was my best friend at all the time,never had any problems with it...
But suddenly(yesterday) the touchpad is broken...
Nothing happend... hasn?t fall to the ground or damaged...
Just after i started it the last time the touchpad doesn?t react....

In Firefox 4 and later you no longer have the Status bar that showed the padlock in previous Firefox versions.<br />
The padlock only shows that there is a secure connection and doesn't guarantee that you are connected to the right server.<br />
So you might still be connected to the wrong server if you make a typo in the URL and someone has claimed that mistyped URL.<br />
The functionality of the padlock has been replaced by the [[Site Identity Button]] on the left end of the location bar.

Can I use my ibook as the external keyboard for my Mac Mini?

Using a firewire to connect the two units. Or do I need to buy a separate keyboard to use with the Mini?

It seems to me that while you CAN connect the mini to your iBook with FW (or ethernet) and run the mini from the iBook's keyboard and display, the performance of the combined system will be the poorest common factor between processor speed and data transfer speeds. In other words, while you will be able to run the mini and it's software, the combined iBook/mini system not going to perform all that well, and aside from possibly giving you access to software your iBook wouldn't be able to run (depending on what processor, speed and RAM it has), using a mini that way is typically not all that cost-effective.
Keyboards are cheap (I bought a $29.95 wireless USB keyboard/mouse combo from WalMart to use with mine at home), and a display need not cost much at all if you don't already have one.

External keyboard problem

I have a strange, reoccurring problem with a MacBook Pro when attached to an external keyboard: suddenly the computer reacts to keyboard input as if the Cmd key is being pressed at the same time (although this is not the case). Just pressing the tab key, for example, brings up the app switcher, pressing the Q key closes the active application, pressing W closes the active window and all without pressing the Cmd key.
Thinking it was a mechanical problem, I ordered a replacement keyboard (Apple Keyboard with numeric keypad) but the problem persists. I think we can therefore rule out that the Cmd key is physically stuck.
The problem only happens when the external keyboard is connected. Once the problem occurs, disconnecting the external keyboard doesn't resolve the issue. The only way of resolving the problem is to log out and back in again (or restart). Pressing the ESC key has no effect.
The fact that the computer 'thinks' that the Cmd key is pressed means that any other 'normal' keyboard input it prohibited, i.e. if the screensaver is active, I can't enter my password and mouse clicks behave like CMD-clicks, i.e. clicking on a link in Safari opens it in a new window. All other keyboard input appears to be otherwise ok. For instance, I can use the arrow keys to select different menu items and the CR key to select items.
The configuration is as follows:
MacBook Pro 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
Mac OS X 10.6.8
8GB RAM
Apple Keyboard plugged into USB port of Apple 20" Cinema display. Cinema display plugged into mini Display Port and USB port on the MBP. (It doesn't seem to make a difference which USB port is used, the problem arises on both).
I have a number of background programs running including:
TextExpander
LaunchBar
Dropbox
Evernote
BashFlash
Growl
Snapz Pro X
Thinking that TextExpander might be causing some input problems, I removed it from the system but the problem remained. I've yet to try removing any other background programs or start up items.
I use the laptop at home in the evenings in 'stand alone' mode and plug it into the Cinema display when I'm in the office. Admittedly, I plug the display and USB connectors into the laptop while it is on but this never caused a problem previously. Sometimes the problem will occur as soon as the external keyboard is plugged in, but on other occasions everything works fine for a couple of hours when the problem seems to occur of its own volition. The problem is, however occurring every day.
I hope I've thought of everything. Anyone else seen a similar problem? I'd love to get to the bottom of this.

Boot in safe mode and test. If the problem goes away in safe mode, then it's caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login.

Why doesn't the virtual keyboard work with firefox on my dell venue 8 pro windows 8.1 tablet?

When I try to enter text in any text-entry box, i.e, in the url , search, or on a website, the virtual keyboard doesn't activate. I have to manually activate and deactivate it. It works for Google Chrome, but sadly not for firefox, my preferred browser. The tablet is up-to-date with the latest drivers and updates.

Mapping keys on the Apple external keyboard

I use my rMBP (Mid 2012) with an external monitor and an Apple full-sized wired keyboard. On the actual laptop keyboard, the key to the right of the F12 key, is the power button. On the external keyboard it is the CD/DVD Eject key. I would like it to function as a power key, like on the actual rMBP keyboard. Is this possible? (OS is Mavericks).

Anyone figured this out yet? I too lost my ability to brighten/darken my screen with F1 and F2 since upgrading to 10.6.
There's absolutely no setting in Display preferences either. All I can do is create a new color profile which is overkill each time I want to slightly increase or decrease the brightness as my office light from my window changes throughout the day.
So many things have broken with 10.6....one would think Apple would have done more testing with its own software and controls before rolling it out!

Is it possible to change the country code of an external keyboard on the ipad?

i have bought an aluminium case with an external keyboard for my ipad. it is a nice tool, and i would like to present it to a friend as well. but this friend lives in aother country with an other keyboard.
When I change the display keyboard country, does it effect the external keyboard as well, so he could use it correctly?

The selection of a different display keyboard does change the way the external keyboard works. There is a settings for software keyboard layouts and hardware keyboard layouts. How well it works, I don't know because I'm not familiar with any foreign keyboards. If you are familiar with a keyboard from your friend's country, perhaps you should add his country's keyboard to your setup and give it a try.
