The extreme heat that comes from my macbook pro

my macbook pro gets so hot where my left palm rests on the laptop that it becomes unbearable. This happens often when I have alot of processes running and I could understand if the laptop just got a little bit hot from doing this task, but this intense heat generation is unacceptable and generally occurs more when I use the apple OS on my computer than the windows OS (even when i am playing hardware intense games on windows it never gets this hot)
I am currently downloading files wirelessley, listening to music, the keyboard is illuminated, the fans are spinning at a normal 1999 rpm's and the temperatures of my hardware seem normal, I am typing on my lap in a chair, but I am allowing proper ventillation from the back of the laptop and it still gets this hot occasionally when I am using it on a surface.
The heat only comes from that one spot underneath my wrist, any suggestions?

Hi, I have the exact same problem. You can read my thread on:

Well, besides FanControl, there is also the CoolBook utility were you can undervolt the CPU (without decreasing performance). However, the area we’re worried about is where the HD is located, lowering the CPU heat might not help. But since the entire case is in aluminum, it just might
I haven’t messed with CoolBook yet, as it doesn’t fully support Santa Rosa yet, and would also like to hear more experience from other MBP users.

  • What are the default apps that come with a macbook pro Mid 2014

    Hi all,
so what happened is that I forgot my password (the computer's) and I did erase all and came back on the factory reset. All is fine so far, but I am missing a lot of my apps - I sure did chat with apple and they made something so that I can get my Pages and etc back, but seems like I am missing a lot. I will show a screen shot to see the current situation. I use MacPro Mid 2014, from apple online store.

If you suspect something is missing, describe what you think it may be. The programs in your screenshot appear to be the correct ones.

Or, you can upgrade to Lion or Mountain Lion:
Upgrading from Snow Leopard to Lion or Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99.
If you sign into the App Store and try to purchase Mountain Lion but the App Store says your computer is not compatible then you may still be able to upgrade to Lion per the following information.
    A. Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion - System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
         Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table - RoaringApps.
For a complete How-To introduction from Apple see Upgrade to OS X Mountain Lion.
    B. Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.

My airport extreme is not supporting port 25 from my macbook pro, only product in my residence that port 25 is not supported. (iPads, iPods, macbook air)

I believe I understand this better now. When I unplug my MacBook Pro from the network including disabling Wi-Fi, then when I open AirPort Utility it of course shows and I am no longer connected to my home network on the MBP. All the other hardwired or Wi-Fi connected computers, printers, hard drives and iPads are still connected.

  • Can i install the l os that came in my macbook pro onto an imac with tiger?

i jst bought my macbook pro and i love it but i also have an imac (the solid white one) and it still has tiger in it. is there a way i can install leopard in it?

Doing so is illegal. It violates the software license that forbids installing on more than one CPU at a time. For $29.00 you can buy a legal copy of Snow Leopard for your iMac provided it meets the hardware requirements:
    Snow Leopard General requirements
Mac computer with an Intel processor
    1GB of memory
    5GB of available disk space
    DVD drive for installation
Some features require a compatible Internet service provider; fees may apply.
Some features require Apple’s MobileMe service; fees and terms apply.
For $49.00 you can purchase the Family license - up to five users. For $169.00 you can purchase the Boxed Set that comes with Snow Leopard, Leopard, iLife '09, and iWork '09.

  • How to import the JSON data that comes from REST API into Excel 2013?

    HI,
Is there a way to import the JSON data that REST API returns into Excel 2013? If so how?
Could you please let me know this?
If you need to know any more info please let me know.
    Thanks,
    Vinay

I got this. We need to use power query add in for this.
EXCEL 2013 -> POWER QUERY -> From Web
Enter the URL for the REST end point and click ok. Power Query editor will show up with the URL and list of your data.
click on the list -> Right click->drill down
You will see the no of records the API returned.
Right Click on List in that table -> To Table and say ok in the next dialog.
On the displayed columns, there will be a double sided arrow, click on that and select the rows you want to import.
There you go. You will all the data.
Click on Apply and close. This will import the data into your excel file.

  • My hard drive crashed, and I cannot reinstall the original OS that came with my macbook pro?

I bought my macbook pro (mid 2012 version) 10 months ago and it's been working fine up until now (running on Yosemite). When I opened the lid today, a flashing question mark appeared on the screen. I restarted my mac while holding the option key. I tried to do an internet reinstall but I can't get it to work. When I try to reinstall the OS that came with my mac, there are no options for me to click when asked to select a disk.
I have tried following instructions from multiple threads about how to change the disk utility.
Options on the lefthand side: "disk0" and "mac OS X base system". Options on the right: disk0 - first aid, erase, partition, and restore. Mac OS X base system - first aid, erase, restore.
None of the solutions I've found online are working for me. Most of the options in the disk utility menu are greyed out, so I can't click on them.
Sorry for any typos, it is hard to type this all out on my phone. I have tried to upload pictures, but it doesn't seem to be working. I also apologize if this is in the wrong category.

  • Multiple licenses for Mountain Lion that comes preloaded on MacBook Pro?

I just received my new macbook pro.  It came installed with Mountain Lion.  Can I use this license to upgrade my other machines (iMac) to Mountain Lion too?  I was told that because it came pre-loaded on my macbook, that I was not permitted to use it on other macs?  Thx!

    No, you can't.

  • Self Assigned IP Address, wher the heck did that come from?????

Getting flipping well annoyed with this 10.4 software release! Come on Apple say something find the fix. The problem started with 10.4.4 EVERYTHING was working fine prior to installing, Wifes imac on airport, me on my G5 chatting happily away, the reason I purchased the .mac accounts and the iSights. After 10.4.4 came the problem of the iMac getting an IP address of 10.0.1.x from the airport and no longer able to connect to the internet. So I powered off the airport and connected the ethernet from the Zoom ADSL router direct, and the iMac claims there is a "self assigned IP address" on the Ethernet, which is not true, the machine uses DHCP, rebooted so many times (Windows funnily enough never needed as many reboots as OSX Tiger! and now seems like a better choice if truth be told) and everytime this self assigned IP address appears. Now if I connect my PB to the same cable I get 10.0.0.x and no problem with the internet connection. Settings are IDENTICAL, I even cloned my PB and booted the iMac from the clone and STILL we get "Self Assigned IP Address" on the iMac!
Does anyone have any idea how to stop the self assigned ip address problem?

now it all works fine, got this Gem of info from ther

    well. Regards Kev
Does not solve the problem for me. I'm sitting in a motel with a wireless net. I can connect to the Red Carpet network, with a strong signal, but Safari says I'm not connected to the internet. Network status gives me the same dumb "self-assigned" error. TCP/IP is set for DHCP. Since it's not my base station, I can't just go and recycle it. It did work once, but I haven't been able to reconnect. I've tweaked the connection multiple ways, rebooted multiple times, etc. etc. etc.
So what gives, and what can I do.

  • I want Apple to include "Notes" as on my IPhone and my IPad into the Lion software that is on my MacBook Pro.  I would be so gratefully to have them all in the ICloud.

I want Notes in ICloud also on my Mac Book Pro.  They are on my IPhone and IPad.  I installed Lion but have no Notes.

Thank you so much, sig.  The Apple experts at Best Buys didn't know this one.  I just checked my mail and yes, the notes are there.  You made my day.

  • What's that power cord like cable that comes with your macbook pro??

I have no idea what this cable is for? It doesn't fit in the laptop...does anybody know?

No, the localised adapter on the corner (of the MagSafe adapter) slips off and then the power cord you have slips on in place of it, the picture captfred posted really helps identify this. The magnetic end doesn't change.

  • HT1386 I am trying to sync my iPod Touches calendar to my MacBook Pro calendar. I have been successful at syncing the events from my MacBook Pro's iCal to the iPod but haven't been able to sync the events from my iPod to my MacBook Pro. Is this possible?

I have an iPod touch that I often use to manage different events for work. I have been able to sync the events on my calendar from my MacBook Pro to the iPod touch successfully using wifi.
