I have a 13 in macbook an dthe fan is running continuously and very loud. This is a new occurance so I'm concerned. This macbood is a few years old

I took the back off and cleaned the fan area. It was pretty clean but I bew it out anyway. The fan is still running very loud and contimuously. Running diags I stil get error code 4MOT/1/40000002: Exhaust-0
I checked the montor and CPU and memory were not in high use. I'm thinking of resetting the SMC. Ths macbook has a warning to not remove the battery so I am looking for directions on how to reset the SMC

I installed the latest version of HP Support Assistant and HP Support Framework, but there was an error during installation of HP Coolsense "There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A programm run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor".

How was the system upgraded to Windows 8? Was it through a clean intall or an in-place upgrade?
Has all Windows 8, including switchable graphics in particular, been installed?

My notebook's fan was operating louder than usual when I upgraded to Windows 8. This turned out to be that swtichable graphics was broken by the upgrade to Windows 8. Effectively, both video cards were running simultaneously resulting in more heat being produced. What resolved it for me was installing getting switchable graphics to work properly. For me, this required a lot of work since my unit was not certified for Windows 8 and would not get any new software for Windows 8. It's an old notebook, so this was expected. However, your system does have a Windows 8 AMD driver for switchable graphics from HP, so I would start by making sure that specific driver is installed.

Why are the fans on my macbook constantly running loudly

The fans on my macbook are running loudly and my computer is running very slowly.
Does anyone know a solution to this?

Either the cpu is cycling doing some intensive work (see Activity Monitor) or the SMC needs resetting.

If your machine was made after 2009 you probably installed th wrong HD. Beginning in 2009 Apple began using HD's that had an integrated fan sensor. If you did not use one of these drives then that is the problem. You should contact OWC (www.macsales.com) or visit your local AASP and they will help you select the correct HD to use.

To reset the SMC means to reset the power management settings for your Mac. To do this, follow these simple steps.

3) After the initial boot chime, your power indicator light should flash three times.

If the fans are very loud and won't stop, you need to find out what's causing that. Open the Activity Monitor
 > Applications > Utilities > Activity Monitor.app
Select 'All Processes' from the drop-down menu on the right.
Click the %CPU tab in the window, twice if necessary, so that the little arrow is pointng downwards.
What's at the top, and how much %CPU is it using? That's what's causing your fans to run fast.
If you're burning or rendering a video or doing a lengthy download, it'll stop when your process stops. If you're not doing anything but some process is using up 80% or more of your CPU, select it and hit 'Quit' from the taskbar. You may have to choose 'force quit' and add your password if requested depending on what the process is.
If you're not sure, post back with the name of the process.

Hello everyone. With every search transation or internte command my netbook makes a loud fan noise. Very similiar to a car accleration. What causes this? And is it something to worry about? I just purchased my netbook a week ago.

I have the same problem too. I tried changing power opitons but the fan speed is still going full force. The noise and heat is unbearable.

Removing the fan from G4 TI4200

I have a GEFORCE4 TI4200-64mb MSI card that is less than a year old. Two days ago I started getting lock ups. I suspect it is heat related. Before I go to the hassle of RMA it I would like to check the transfer grease under the fan but I'll be danged if I know how to remove it. If is made to be removed, anyone have any pointers.

if its like the 4600 look for the 4 pins holding it
they are like a pin with a head inside a round tube
the centre bit forces the bottom bit apart a bit like a screw in a wall plug
pull the central pin bit out
then pinch the splayed end on the the other side of the card and pull from the front
once thats done with a twist it should come of

The fan on my G5 is so loud I can't hear myself think! HELP!

every so often the fan (i think it's the fan) on my g5 turns way up and it's so amazingly loud. i don't know why it does this or if there's any fix...what i do know is that in the last week it has happened more frequently than normal and today it has been revving for the last 3+ hrs!
is this a problem a lot of people face and is there something i can do to troubleshoot?
