The fan, NDivia, Flash

I bought my MacBook back in July 2007 and now 2 years later listening my Macbook fan on full speed as I watch HD video on YouTube or opening any webpage heavy with Flash I wonder.....Why that guy from Ndivia didn't came to Apple back in early 2007?! LOL

Hi,
Why don't you go at the FWA website, you will have a glimpse, just a glimpse, of the irrelevance of your question (I don't mean to be rude here).

  • Flash video doesn't make the fan go crazy

I don't know if anyone else has noticed this yet but, so far on my new aluminum Macbook when I watch any flash based videos I haven't heard the fans kick up once and the heat on the laptop seems to be very mild. All of the other Macbooks I've owned, Original White, several Macbook Pro's and a Macbook Air have all exibited the same behavior while watching any flash based videos and that is that the fan goes absolutely crazy after a while. The CPU still spikes but, I don't notice the fan kicking on. I haven't run any kind of temp monitoring software but, I'm guessing since the laptop is only slightly warm on the bottom that they have managed to control temps much better in these new designs. Anyone else noticing this or is this just me?

And you are sure that BOTH the HTML and SWF file are on the
    CD?
I took your source and a dummy SWF (which I named
"video.swf"), put them on a CD and it works fine for me.
When you double-click on the HTML file on the CD, what does
    the URL bar say specifically?
If you "hover" your mouse over where you think Flash should
be, do you see anything, like a tooltip saying "Click to activate
    and use this control"?

A flashing question mark or globe appears when you start your Mac

  • Imac G5 will not boot up. there is power but the screen is black. About 30 sec after turning it on, the fan comes on loudly.

I have an old imac G5 (non Intel) The screen went blank but the fan turns very loudly. I cannot reboot the computer.  whenever I start it I get power and black screen and the fan comes on loudly after about 30 secs. I have tried rebooting pressing varius keys, but no luck. I once got the flashing question mark, but I can't get that either. I'd like to reboot from the disc, but I cannot insert a disc. Any help out there??

If zapping the PRAM does not get it working, it's time for a new iMac.  Repairs will not be worth the cost.  Put it towards a new iMac.
I've been there, done that.  Had my burial last summer.

  • How can I stop the fan from running continuously on my iMac?  I have tried resetting the SMC and this did not work.

I have a 27 in. iMac OS X, Version 10.7.5, Intel Core i5 and have a problem with the very loud and annoying fan running continuously.  The fan starts up immediately upon powering up and stays on all the time.  I have researched this on the internet and have tried resetting the SMC unsuccessfully.  Should I try fan control software?

To reset the SMC means to reset the power management settings for your Mac. To do this, follow these simple steps.
    1) Shutdown your Mac by going to the Apple Logo in the upper left hand corner of the screen and selecting "Shut Down" from the drop down menu.
    2) Turn your machine back on while continuing to hold down the power button.
    3) After the initial boot chime, your power indicator light should flash three times.
    4) Your screen will remain black and you will hear the boot chime again. At this point, you may release the power button and allow your Mac to boot up normally.
All the best with getting your Mac Mini to run smoothly.

  • TS1587 I tried everything, except for reinstalling the SO-DIMM memory modules. Still, my iMac will not wake up. Turning it on you can hear the fan run, but the display stays dark. Any ideas what to do? Thanks Maja

    Mac doesn't boot
Can you hear the fans and hard drive and see the white boot screen? Flashing question mark? The circle just runs and nothing happens? Only black screen and nothing else? These can be very helpful to diagnose the source of the problem. [1]
Flashing question mark [2]: This is usually a sign of a failed hard drive. This indicates that boot up volume can not be found.
Black screen: This is usually a sign of a failed logic board. There is no single reason for this and this may be caused by failed GPU, screen, CPU or RAM.
Circle of death/no circle/blue screen: This is usually a sign of a hard drive failure. This may NOT be a dead hard drive, just broken permissions or something
Gray screen/Apple logo/spinning gear or globe/prohibitory sign/folder with flashing question mark [3]: This could be a sign of faulty hardware but more likely a software issue, i.e. broken permissions, failed software update, etc.
    [edit]
    What to do
First, hold down the option key (also known as the alt key) just after you've pressed the power button. This should show all the available options to boot from, so if you have Windows installed through Bootcamp or a disk in your SuperDrive, you should be able to see them along with your OS X drive/partition. Select the OS X partition with arrow keys and press enter. Startup key combinations
If that doesn't help continue doing the steps from below:
    1. SMC reset [4]. Shut down and unplug all cables including power cord for at least 30 seconds and then plug in power cord and keyboard/mouse.
    2. PRAM reset [5]. Hold down option, command, P and R while booting. Start it when you hear the sound and don't let go before it reboots.
    3. Safe boot [6]. Hold down shift while booting to boot into safe mode. If this works, open Disk Utility from Utilities and repair your permissions and verify the disk
    4. Hardware test [7]. Insert the install disk (disk 1 in Mac which shipped with OS X 10.5.4 or earlier, disk 2 if shipped with OS X 10.5.5 or newer) and hold down "D" before the grey boot screen opens. Follow on screen instructions
    5. Boot from install disk. Boot from the disk that came with your Mac. Hold C while booting. Select Disk Utility from top bar and repair permissions and verify the disk. Reboot normally and see if it works now.
    6. Boot from another Mac (Firewire target disk mode). Connect the machines with a Firewire cable. Power on your Mac and press T. Select the other Mac's hard drive. Download the current OS X combo update. Run the combo update installer and select the drive that won't boot as the destination.
    7. "Repair" OS X. Boot from the install disk as in point 5. and reinstall OS X. This should NOT erase any data, just replaces the system files which may have caused your booting problem. Now install the latest combo update for OS X and repair permissions on your drive with Disk Utility.
7.1. Install OS X into an external hard drive and then boot from it [8] and try to copy your data from the hard drive before proceeding. If you have done a backup recently, you don't have to do this.
    8. Restore OS X from Time Machine backup. Boot from the disk that came with your Mac and choose the Time Machine restore option. This step will lose any changes made since your last backup but the system and your data will be put back to exactly as it was on that date.
8.1 Reinstall OS X. Boot from the install disk as in point 5. and select Disk Utility again. Now erase the whole hard drive and install OS X again. If you had a Time Machine backup and step 7 worked you don't have to do this.

  • Why is the fan so loud that when i video chat my friends can't hear me?

The fan is so loud and my computer is slowing down it on mas os x snow leopard version 10.6.8

What model MacBook is this? Ihave a 2008 black Macbook that gets extremly loud when using flash sites or viewing videos. The Macbook is on SL.
I have a 2010 MacBook that the fans rarely spin up 100% and is extremely quiet when doing the same things that I do on the black MacBook. This MB is on Lion.
There may be nothing you can do but depending upon which model you have, you can take off the bottom cover and make sure the fans are clean and not blocked by dust.

  • Comcast's "THE FAN" Videos

I am trying to play videos on the comcast's website and I
cannot. It keeps asking me to download and install Flash Player 9,
which by the way I have installed and uninstalled about 5 times
today. Adobe's website says I have installed the flash player and
shockwave player just fine. I have disabled my virus scan and
firewall, but that does not work. I have also tried resetting IE
7.0 settings - does not work. The weird thing is my videos play
fine within Firefox but there are instances where I need IE 7.0 to
    play Comcast's videos.
    Anyone PLEASE HELP!

Thanks for response and question. It really makes me wonder what in the heck I did download, now. I know for a fact that a Comcast Tech said I had to have Adobe 9 and then I could view the videos in The Fan. I downloaded something that I thought was right and I had problems, so I re-downloaded 8.1.2. I still can't view the videos in The Fan, with Comcast's new Home Page.
As you can tell, I'm not very literate when it comes to the updates and what's available. I feel really silly because I can't remember what I did download that was obviously wrong. duh!
Thanks for sharing. Would you know why I can't view Comcast's Home Page videos with Adobe 8.1.2?

  • The fan on my macbook Pro is running constantly.

Seems to of started after I upgraded to Maverick maybe? Yesterday I did get a "memory is full" pop-up, or something of that nature. I then deleted 118 Gigs from my hard drive (and emptied the trash) but my computer still seems to be freezing up a bit and the fan is constantly running. I did an Etresoft check which is below:

  • Black Screen On ZBook 15 G2 - The Shared SPI Flash was recovered from Embedded Controler Flash

    Hi
I have just bought a HP Zbook 15 G2 (1day old),  PN K3C12PA a off the shelf unit (CPU 4910MQ, GPU 2100K, Z Turbo Drive SSD, QHD+ screen, RAM 32GB)
This unit comes with the 256 GB HP Z Turbo Drive (PCIe SSD) I used the supplied disk to upgrade from Win 7 to Win 8.1,
now the unit will randomly black screen, I can hear the fan and unit seems to still be on, the only way to recover is to turn of the power via the main powder button.
    Fault 1
Upon reboot white screen appears with "The Shared SPI Flash was recovered from Embedded controller Flash" with the title "Embedded Controller Recovery"
I'm not able to repeat the fault just seems to be random.
    Fault 2
The mouse pointer hangs and will take 30-Sec to unhang, task manager show little or no use / load.
twice the unit as frozen and required a on / off / on rests as no keyboard or track pad input would work.
I'm not able to repeat the fault just seems to be random.
    Any ideas?
    Regards

    Hello HP-ZBook-User,
I am sorry to hear you are having problems with your laptop. Since you have upgraded to Windows 8.1 from Windows 7 there maybe an issue with your graphics driver as you have experienced hang ups. You can try to update all drivers using the HPSA utility. This will scan your notebook and will detect any drivers that maybe out of date or did not successfully install.

  • Fan and flash website?

    Hi there,
I am just wondering if your Imac G5 PPC's fan runs at full speed when you vist flash websites? Is it normal?
    CPU temperature = 67 degrees
Hard drive temperature = 58 degrees
    Fan speed
    CPU = 4446 rpm
    System = 2453
    Harddrive = 2615
    Please advice

I have an imac G5 with 1 gig of ram. When my daughter visits a flash website the cpu fan will ramp up to +5000 rpm. Apple has already replaced the logic board and the power supply. During those repairs I was told the fan noise was normal. The fans can get so loud that I can hear them over 30 feet away. Very loud.
I also have a Macbook Core Duo 2gh with 512 meg of ram. That laptop will never make a sound except for the dvd sound when watching a dvd. No fan noise, no high ramps on the fans, nothing.
I have read that placing a piece of foam insulation on the cpu fan housing will reduce the noise as it may be due to vibration of the fan and/or fan housing.

  • The iMac won't turn on, only the fan blows loudly. What's wrong with it?

Yesterday, I could get into the iMac but after a few minutes of surfing on the Firebox browser, the screen split and the top half was blinking and flashing different colours.  I fixed it by re-booting the computer, however it happened again and re-booting didn't work, it just turned off.   Today, I can't get the computer to turn on. I would hold the power button and the fan would start up, however, the computer continues to show a blank screen.  I click on the keys and get a sound with each keystroke. My guess is that the monitor is just shot.?? Am I right?

  • At what temp does the fan hit 100%? NX8800GT OC 512mb

It says in Rivatuner that it's set at 29% auto control, at what point does it speedup? BTW is it safe to follow this fan speed guide? Link here: http://www.guru3d.com/article/article/449/1/
    Thanks.

I have the same problem: the card shows freaking squares during games randomly.
Setting up the speed manually to 50% solves the problem.
I touched the surface of the cooler before that: it gets really hot close to the DVI-Ports, that is where the issues are.
Anyways, that was reason enough for me to modify a BIOS.
The BIOS in the attachment is the newest by eVGA, which adjusts the fan speed. I just adjusted the clocks, and the vendor IDs and stuff, so it is shown as MSI card.
The BIOS Version is: 62.92.24.00.01 compared to MSI's 62.92.16.00.04!
Google for the flash procedure! You will void the warranty, and I am not responsible if you mess this up! I tested the BIOS and it solved my problems.
In the rar-file you'll find the original eVGA and MSI BIOS, NiBiTor and the MSI_new.rom, which is the modified file.
CHeck the BIOS and compare them, if you don't trust me, which I totally understand!
Handle with care, this might kill your card!

  • The fan gets really loud sometimes

I just bought my Mac a couple weeks ago, not more than a month ago, and I haven't really downloaded a lot onto my computer. But sometimes the fan comes on really loudly, like it's having a hard time cooling the computer. Granted this happens usually when I'm on a site or using a program that is graphic intensive, but it only started doing this sometime this week. Could there be something wrong with the computer?

Your MacBook is behaving as it should. The fan will come on when the CPU is working overtime.
You can run Activity Monitor in the background and see what processes are consuming CPU cycles when the fans come on.
It is Abode Flash more often than not on a website that gets the CPU working hard and the fans going.

  • N670 PE 2GD5/OC outside Windows the fan runs like hell

The fan is to noisy outside windows. Is it possible to flash the bios to kill this noisy fan? How can i do this?

I too have this problem with the same card.
I interpret the "Outside Windows" above as running the PC without booting a Windows installation that has the Nvidia driver.  For instance, we could spend a long time in the BIOS or in another operating system, and the fan would never spin down.  This is very irritating due to the volume, and may be detrimental to the life of the fans by repeatedly running them at maximum for prolonged periods.
For instance, this card has been nightmarish for me when trying to do maintenance on the PC using a technician boot disk.  Is there any way to disable this feature, or at least have the timing worked out so it really stops around 30 seconds?
