The fan sound of macbook air

Is it normal to hear the fan sound of macbook air. not all the time

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
Sometimes, when you are doing heavy tasks with your computer, temperature increases. Your Mac turns on fans automatically when temperature increases a lot, so it will keep your computer safe. It's normal and you shouldn't be worried if this doesn't happen all the time

  • Should the fan in my MacBook Air be running when the computer is shut and asleep?

Mine is, and this seems like a waste of battery life. I feel like the fan used to shut off when the computer was shut. But now, even when I close the MacBook, the fan still runs as fast as it did when the computer was open. Anyone know what the heck is going on here?

Yeah I think it is a Mavericks thing. Mine actually wasn't too bad. I closed the lid at night when my power was at about 52% and the fan kept going. I just went to bed, and in the morning, the fan had stopped, and my power was still around 51%, so it didn't eat any of my power like I thought it was going to. Mavericks must have the ability to cool your computer when needed even after you close it. It actually turned out to be not that big a deal.

  • Why is the fan of my Macbook Air suddenly so noisy?

It has become very noisy. The fan is running constantly. I never heard the fan before. Has something broken. The performance has not changed but it takes much more to start up and shut down.

    Hi aschicchi,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
Here are a few troubleshooting steps to address your fan issue:
Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
"...these symptoms may indicate that an SMC reset may be necessary:
    Fans
The computer's fans run at high speed although the computer is not experiencing heavy usage and is properly ventilated."
    Before Resetting the SMC
Try each of the following steps in this order before you reset the SMC.  Test the issue after completing each troubleshooting step to determine if the issue still occurs.
Press Command + Option + Escape to force quit any application that is not responding.
Put your Mac to sleep by choosing the Apple () menu from the upper-left menu bar and then choosingSleep. Wake the computer after it has gone to sleep.
Restart your Mac by choosing the Apple () menu from the upper-left menu bar and then choosing Restart.
Shut down your Mac by choosing the Apple () menu from the upper-left menu bar and then choosing Shut Down.
Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
    Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.
I hope this information helps ....
    Have a great day!

  • My microphone on the macbook pro13 always recording the fan sound on bootcamp. So what can i do?

My microphone on the macbook pro13 always recording the fan sound on bootcamp. So what can i do?

The answer is, either you are not telling us the whole story, or something else has changed.  Perhaps your iPad is jealous of your iPod and is secretly forcing your iPod to reset it self.  And if you believe that, I have this bridge for sale....
Now where is my tin-foil hat.....

  • I have no sound on macbook air. This is the latest version and just recently sound will not come on. Help?

I have no sound on macbook air. This is the latest version (purchased July 2013) and just recently sound will not work at all, even with headphones. Help?

did you put your Air to sleep with headphones attached, or closed the monitor with phones attached?
Do not sleep your Air (close the monitor with headphones attached) with headphones attached, this is known to affect some Air under Mavericks.
      * this occurrence is being looked into.
Much testing on my own and others as well show that, in some instances, this occurs in Mavericks.
If you choose you may contact Apple for an appt and diagnostics.
However as said, refrain from having phones attached when you close the monitor to prevent this until it is resolved
    Test this and re-verify

  • Why would the fan on my macbook be constantly runs, even when no applications are running.  Why?

Why would the fan on my MacBook constantly run?  Even when I have no applications running?  Is there a way to determine what is causing this to happen?

JAWade, try resetting the SMC and pram. Not always, but often those resets help problems like yours. Follow these instructions exactly.
    To reset the SMC
    Shut down the computer.
    Unplug the computer's power cord.
    Wait fifteen seconds.
    Attach the computer's power cord.
Wait five seconds, then press the power button to turn on the computer.
    Resetting PRAM and NVRAM
    Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.

  • How do I mute the microphone on a MacBook Air?

How do I mute the Microphone on a MacBook Air?
I am using a converting program and a USB turntable to convert my vinyl record to CD for my personal use.  During the recording session, environmental noise/room noise gets recorded at the same time via the built in microphone.  Is there anyway to mute this microphone or disable it?  I could do that on my old Toshiba with its Window program.
    Nantais

Turn the input volumn down all the way for the Mic. You do that in the Sound Applet In System Preferences.

  • Why do the fans on my macbook pro suddenly rev up

The fans on my macbook pro (about 3 - 4) yrs old suddenly rev up and the computer gets very hot. This is sometimes (but not necessarily) at times of optimum use.
The case seems to be vented ok. I am running Mavericks osx and use computer for range of uses - graphics, e-mails, word and spreadsheets.
    Is this a problem?
it sure make the computer noisy.

    Hello kiwiwoodz,
Thanks for the question. After reviewing your post, it sounds like the fan is running at high speed while properly ventilated. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help you isolate or resolve the issue.

  • 10.7 Lion makes the fan in my MacBook Pro roar!

The fan in my MacBook Pro 13" Thunderbolt (2,3 GHz i5, 8 GB RAM) is driving me wild! As wild as a Lion! I was used to it howling like a starting spaceship whenever I was watching crappy Flash Video, but now with 10.7 Lion, the fan even blows like crazy in Mail.app.
What’s most annoying is that it doesn't spin at a constant speed but that it's speed, and thus volume goes up and down all the time. The guys at Apple can't be serious about this... The fan action in my previous MacBook Pro 13" (2.26 GHz C2D, 8 GB) was really moderate, but the SandyBridge-based machines seem to be a nightmare.
I rather accept a slower CPU, than the penetrating and annoying howling. Come on Apple give us some Firmware update! Where is the 'eye of Steve' when you need it?
    P.S.: Please second this!
P.P.S.: I'm familiar with the Activity Monitor, and closely watch the processes, so it is not that I don't understand what is going on. Yet, still: My last C2D MBP was a zillion times quiter...

Mine is roaring too - like a computer readying for lift-off. I think it wants to be the next space shuttle.
In my case, it's definitely (at least in part) because clamshell mode currently has a major bug under Lion. You should be able to run an external monitor with the MBP lid open and internal screen off. After upgrading to Lion, the MBP screen comes back on as soon as you re-open the lid. So the only way to use only the external display is to keep the lid closed. Lid closed = poorer air circulation = hotter running = mad, mad fan noise plus a much unhappier and unhealthy living environment for the battery and other components.
One step forward, three steps back... Please fix, Apple.

  • How do i turn off the startup sound on macbook pro?

how do i turn off the startup sound on macbook pro?

You don't. You may find some third-party software that will, however. Try Auto Mute.
    Alternatively, you can try this:
I think this is the best and simplest solution. Open a Terminal window and type (or copy/paste) the following to turn down the startup noise:
         sudo nvram SystemAudioVolume="%00"
    Press RETURN.
And to restore it to the original value type:
         sudo nvram -d SystemAudioVolume
    Press RETURN.
    That's all folks.

  • I would like to know how do I install the brazilian keyboard into macbook air, keyboard with accents (Portuguese Language), I tried so many times how to put into it (Macbook Air). So, thanks for now! I'm waiting for it.

I would like to know how do I install the brazilian keyboard into macbook air, keyboard with accents (Portuguese Language), I tried so many times how to put into it (Macbook Air). So, thanks for now! I'm waiting for it.

After you go to system preferences/keyboard/input sources as suggested by sberman, click on the + button and scroll down to Portuguese and select that.  Over at the right you will see the choices Brazilian, Brazilian abnt, Portuguese.  You might want to add all three to see which you like best.
The "Brazilian" layout is pretty useless.  It is identical to the US layout and the only way to make accents is via the option key shortcuts:  option + n, then o gives you õ.
The Brazilian abnt and Portuguese layouts have dead keys for adding accents over at the right edge of the keyboard.  But these may not match what is printed on your keys.
You may prefer to stay with the US layout.  On that you can get accented letters by just holding down the base letter and selecting what you want from the popup menu that appears.  Or you can use the option key shortcuts.
Another option is the layout called US International PC, which has accent deadkeys on ~, ', etc.
Which ever layout you want to use, you must select it in the "flag" menu at the top right of the screen.
To see which key does what for any layout, use the Keyboard Viewer:
