The File Could Not Be Found after upgrading to LR5

Upgraded to LR5 on new computer. Moved existing LR3 catalogs to new computer but kept the original files in their existing place on external drive. After reinstalling the catalog onto LR5, I get the error message "The File Could Not Be Found".

I figured it out. Error on my part. I have a separate drive that these catalogs somehow wound up on over the course of a couple years.

Photoshop Elements 6: Could not use type tool because the file could not be found

Using Adobe Photoshop Elements 6.0 well for a while.
Tried to use the Type Tool to overlay text and obtained this error:
Could not use the type tool because the file could not be found
After research, I reset all tools, tried to repair (failed: insert disc one), and then removed/re-installed. Still have the same problem.
Are the system fonts corrupt or is an Adobe .ini file suspect?
Other reports have suggested using a 3rd-party font manager to inspect/disable fonts.
First wanted to post this error here for feedback/recommendations

Adobe Photoshop Elements Repair Workaround
When trying to repair the well-known: insert disc one, error occurred. Was able to successfully repair the installation by dragging the entire Adobe Photoshop Elements directory from the original CD-ROM onto a hard drive and executing locally. Seems it does not like repairing over the CD-ROM but it works correctly if the install source is on disc...

Yesterday, I decided to completely remove all Adobe products: PSE 6, Premiere 4, Reader, ActiveX plugins & legacy/old uninstalled product directories that Adobe has left turd-lets around including old Acrobat 3/6 directories. Used A/D Software to remove all adobe products and then followed your instructions AND the instructions on Adobe's support web site to manually remove these products.
It boiled down to manually removing the entire Adobe directory in Progam Files, "saving" the entire Adobe directory structure in each users (3) Document and Settings in the Application Data and Local Settings (as instructed by you and Adobe) and rebooting.
I also saved the local All Users "configuration" database/cache that contained the Tag and other information to make sure the system was clean
This included following the manual Regit instructions to remove legacy Adobe registry hives. I deleted all keys for all Adobe product trees that I could locate (following instructions from Adobe).
Reboot
Scheduled a CHCKDSK on all drives and rebooted
Dragged my complete image library to an archive location and deleted them on the C: drive
Did a complete system Defrag
Re-installed Adobe and alas still have the same problem with the Type Tool....
The only thing I did not do was selectively remove the "fonts" because various instructions seemed to indicate many are "required" by the windows or other applications and I was not really sure how to identify which ones were safe to remove w/o affecting the core system.. I'll have to re-read these instructions next.
Microsoft has a "Font Validator" tool, but that only checks 1 font at a time and you have to read the "results". May look for other tools.
Will be able to check the font structure this weekend since it will take some research before I'm comfortable just removing fonts in trial/error mode. I'll need to make a backup image of my computer before I start this (just in case).

I haven't kept records of the songs I have paid for, and a number of songs have recently been displaying this message, making me search my computer for them. Most I have been able to find, but this one immediately "disappeared" the moment I attempted to play it after downloading...... how do I either get it back or get my money back???

How did you do this move? Unless you know what you are doing you have to move the whole, complete iTunes folder.

Quick answer if you use iTunes' default preferences settings: Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive. Open iTunes and immediately hold down the Option (alt) key (shift on Windows), then guide it to the new location of the library.

When I try to save for web, Photoshop pops up a dialog box that says "could not complete the export command because the file could not be found".
What is the solution for this?

Please provide more information (Photoshop version, OS, target volume, …).
Does the file’s or one of the folders’ name contain problematic letters (slash etc.)?

Could not save preferences because the file could not be found (Windows) then Error 1 on PS,AE,PR,ID

I was trying out Photoshop, everything was running fine then one day when I close it I get an error:
"Could not save preferences because the file could not be found..."
Now when I boot it I get the Configuration Error 1.
After Effects still boots, but it reset all my preferences there. For example the workplace layout was reset, all my saved Output presets were removed and my memory-cache and performance settings were reset again.
Premiere and InDesign get the error too and won't boot.
This is the second time it has happened, I'll try wiping every Adobe program and reinstalling all over again, but it had run fine before for a while and it randomly happened.
Any idea how to fix this?

Nope I havent touched the Documents folder.
Forgot to mention that I'm on Windows 7

PE 5.0.2 - Could not load the FastCore Routines module because the file could not be found.

The "view and organize photos" mode seems to work just fine, but when I attempt to open the "edit and enhance photos" mode, I get an error box with this message: "Could not load the FastCore Routines module because the file could not be found", and then it shuts down after I click ok. I have installed the 5.0.2 patch and have uninstalled and reinstalled the program, to no avail. I had no firewall running when installing the program, nor do I own the program "Clean Sweep". What can I do?

I made the repair for Elements 5 on an XP version Operating System PC by doing this:
I went to....
Start / All Programs / Accessories / Windows Explorer
and selected.....
My Computer / C:
which is my drive with its operating system where Photoshop is installed.
I then clicked....
Documents and Settings
Then - in each - of the three icons I found.....
All Users, Default User, and Owner
I went into....
Application Data / Adobe / Photoshop Elements
In that last file I removed ALL the contents.... IN EACH !
After rebooting, my Photoshop Elements 5 started to work.
I think with research and all I invested five hours. May this save you 4 1/2.
I was paranoid and put the contents of each file into a new file I identified
clearly in case it I have to replace one of the parts out in the future.
I hope this is of help to some future reader.
Other comments here seem to indicate that this solution has
worked in version 4 and up and fixed early versions of Vista.
This appears to be a common problem after a drive repair or partitioning.
Why they can't just tell us this is a mystery to me.

When i try saving sothing it comes up with could not save as (file name) because the file could not be found and need to save this file. i could save stuff before but not anymore if anyone could help i would be grateful

We cannot know. These kinds of things are operating system errors with stuff getting blocked due to insufficient permissions, security tools interfering, network errors or whatever. Since you mentioned none of that, it's an "Ask your mom..." thing at this point, but if you provide more details, someone might be able to figure it out.

Home sharing problem - "copy of the file could not be found"

Hi all - I just tried to load about 2700 songs via home sharing from my old laptop to my current one. At the end of the import, it showed that about 1200 songs did not import because "a copy of the file could not be found", something like that. To give some context, I quickly scrolled through the songs that would not import, and all the ones I saw were songs I grabbed off of file sharing networks when i was in college years ago. Normally the cause of this is misplaced or missing files. The iTunes library displayed in iTunes is based on information stored in its library file. One piece of this information is where the actual music file for each song is stored on your system. If the actual music file (*.mp3, *.mp4, etc.) has been moved or deleted manually then iTunes can't find the actual file that contains the music. In iTunes select Get info for these files and see where iTunes thinks they are stored. If the files aren't in that location then that's your problem. If the files have been moved then consolidating your iTunes library may be a good solution. You should read iTunes help on that operation. If the files have been deleted then they are gone and you can delete the song from iTunes. That won't get your music back but it will tidy up your iTunes library.

In light room -in the develop mode all my photos state " The file could not be found" I was working on them a day before and all was fine...

It probably means you moved or renamed the photos (or folders that contain them) outside of Lightroom. Hint: don't do this!
You could move the photos back to where they were, or you can reconnect via Adobe Lightroom - Find moved or missing files and folders

Smart Previews issue. LR5 catalog saying "The file could not be found" for entire collection. How do I "sync" or "find" the smart previews?

I created an LR5 catalog with 1:1 previews and smart previews. I then placed the catalog along with the previews and smart previews files into dropbox.
Came home to work remotely, opened the catalog from dropbox and I can see the photos in library mode. But once I go to develop, LR is saying "The file could not be found"
Smart Preview cache file is there right below the lrcat file.
Anyone know how I can make the catalog find that smart previews cache?

There are ? next to the folders but that's to be expected because that drive is not connected to my comp.
And there are exclamation points next to each image.. but again.. drive is not connected. But I've used smart previews before and that was the fix to working without the original raw images available.
However the smart previews don't seem to be working this time as I cannot edit the images.

I teach Acrobat in a junior college. For an assignment students are to share an Acrobat portfolio file via Acrobat.com. So far two students have attempted to do that, I have clicked the link in the email message generated by Acrobat.com, and in each instance the error message in this discussion heading appeared.

I don't sign in. The moment Acrobat.com opens, it displays the error
message, "The File could not be found or you don't have permission to
access it." So, I'm guessing that the automatic sign-in email address is
different than the one used when sending me a shared file notice.
People use Acrobat.com to share files with individuals, most of whom
don't have Acrobat.com IDs. Those non-members gain access smoothly.
There shouldn't be a bouncer at the door to refuse entry to those who
have Acrobat.com IDs but who happen to have multiple email addresses.
You need to simply allow entry to all persons receiving invitations to
download files whether or not they have an Acrobat.com ID.

What's really infurating is that non-technical wife thinks this means she must go to the iTunes store and buy them again. Is it just coincidence that this only happens to songs that we ripped from the CD with iTunes? Hmmmm?....

iTunes is the only music library manager, Media player was not even activated.
iTunes is configured to "Keep folder organized", "Copy files to folder when adding"
this has been a recurring issue since iTunes 9.x for us
The issue is persisted accross system and library rebuilds.
some of the same songs recurr but most of the time the list differs.
Library survived transfer to new computer and back for a system rebuild (new hdd) w/o this issue.
I'm guessing 100 songs is an arbitrary limit for error reporting.
Songs seem to get lost for the following reasons.
Track number added to filename
Spelling of some tags like Album, Artist, Title differ in iTunes library and the file path !!!!
Only seems to happen to mp3 files.
My suspicion is that iTunes is downloading meta data from the store and updating the mp3 tags and iTunes Music Library.xml then predicting the new file location without actually moving the file to that new location. I've enabled insert/update auditing on the NTFS folder to see if that provided any new info. I'm also capturing iTunes Music Library.xml so I can compare it to the new one WHEN this happens again and see if there is a pattern there.

The missing file thing happens when files are no longer where iTunes expects to find them. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the files, or that the drive they live on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout, or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place.
Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to get info, then cancel when asked to try to locate the track. Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions.
Alternatively, as long as you can find a location holding the missing files in a relatively sensible structure, then you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes .
Although you say you haven't used Media Player it can be raised as a background process by visiting enabled web sites. Possibly worth you reviewing this post: Getting iTunes & Windows Media Player to play nicely

Unlike Windows Media player iTunes doesn't have a feature to automatically update tag data, although it will sometimes spot when a 3rd party program has (say during playback) and then update its own copy of the data. The iTunes (Music) Library xml file is provided for querying by third party software and is rewritten every time there is a change to the library, but is otherwise of no relevance to iTunes. The library is maintained in the iTunes Library.itl file. I suppose what could be happening is that iTunes issues a command to the file system to move a file based upon its tag, updates its knowledge of where the file is supposed to be, but the OS fails to move the file for some reason. Alternatively everything could go as planned, but iTunes could fail to get the updated copy of the library written out to disk so next time you start you get the previously stored locations.
I have ideas of my own about the best way to organise my media, but I'm quite familiar with the way iTunes does it. It might be interesting to see the details of one of the broken tracks, the path iTunes thinks it is at, and the actual path, in case there is anything that can be deduced.
Apple don't run an open bug tracking system so you won't be able to follow reports/progress based on a bug number. You can drop a line to iTunes Feedback or get a free Apple Developer account and submit a bug report report there.

Hi,
After downloading the new version of Photoshop two days ago, I have this other problem.
I'm trying to save a file 'as' something else after editing it in Camera Raw, and when I do that, I have this error message as in subject.
Can anyone help me out?

Further Google searching found this bit of information....and it fixed our problem!
Rather than deleting the files I renamed them as follows Adobe Photoshop CS6 Prefs_old & Adobe Photoshop X64 CS6 Prefs_old
To fix and prevent this error from happening, the user will navigate to:
C:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS6\Adobe Photoshop CS6 Settings
Depending on what version of photoshop is causing the error to appear you will delete the following file:
Adobe Photoshop CS6 Prefs.psp (for 32bit version)
Adobe Photoshop X64 CS6 Prefs.psp (for 64bit version)

"could not initialize photoshop because the file could not be found"

I get this error whenever I try and run Photoshop CS3. Any ideas?

It opens, gives that blue box that says it's loading, and then that error message appears and it closes. I have reinstalled it plenty of times and have tried updating to 10.0.1 but the same error. =/ I've searched all over.

"File could not be found"

Hi! I have been trying to figure out what's going on here. Some files (not all files or all file types) are not opening properly. I get the following message:
"Could not complete your request because the file could not be found."
This is happening more often with more files. I don't think that the files are corrupt, as I can re-create the files and I still get the same error message. Also, it is happening inconsitantly in terms of location, file type, and file names. I tried deleting the prefernces for Photoshop to no avail. The files are on the harddrive that Photoshop is on, so it is not a virtual harddrive which has lost connection.
Any suggestions?

It probably seems really clear to you what you're doing, but keep in mind none of us are sitting with you watching what you're doing...
Please list the steps you are taking, so that rather than assuming you're starting Photoshop and doing File - Open, or maybe right-clicking the image in Bridge and opening in Photoshop, or maybe double clicking the image in Explorer, or whatever, we can know where you're seeing problems.
Please list the exact steps you're taking.
Please list the exact error message you're seeing. Ideally grab the screen showing the error just when it happens and post it here as a JPEG.
