The file might be corrupted, truncated, or in an unexpected format.

I am currently having issues with the application Preview on my iMac. I have to look at thousands of pictures of documents, and use preview to view these photos of documents that are in a .jpeg format. Most of the time I open about 10,000 to 15,000 images with preview. I then hop through these images looking at the information. Until recently when I updated my OS to Mountain Lion. With my older operating sytem I could open thousands of photos in preview and have no problems viewing them. Now I can't view all the photos at once without getting an error message. The current error message that I receive is "The file might be corrupted, truncated, or in an unexpected format." I can open these files individually if I wish, but I cannot look at all of them in a group.   I have not had this issue with any of the previous versions of Mac OS. Several other people in my office have the same issue, and are depending on me to get this resolved. Please help me be a hero.
Regards,
Eugene

Back up all data. Quit Preview if it's running.
Hold down the option key and select Go ▹ Library from the Finder menu bar. From the Library folder, delete the following items, if they exist:
Caches/com.apple.Preview
Containers/com.apple.Preview
Preferences/com.apple.Preview.LSSharedFileList.plist
Preferences/com.apple.Preview.SandboxedPersistentURLs.LSSharedFileList.plist
Saved Application State/com.apple.Preview.savedState
Launch the application and test.

Did you try to open teh fle by double-clicking its icon? If the file was made with an older version of Office, you may get that message. Try opeing PP and, from its "File" menu, see if you can open the ppt. I've foundthat often gets around that message and then yo ucan save the file from the newer version.
If that doesn't work, consider asking in the Microsoft Office: Mac forums here:
    Office for Mac forums
PowerPoint is not an Apple product and it seems a lot of people around here avoid Office.

  • Error: The file is either corrupt or using....

I am attempting to open a file I just did work on. I was saving periodically and closed the program properly. Now I am getting the error message:
    C:\Users\ritterbenjamin\Documents\Adobe\Audition\5.0\shittests\shittests.sesx
Error: The file is either corrupt or using an unsupported format
Is there a fix to this? I tried opening it up in a word doc and that didnt even work to examine.

Unfortunately its sometimes difficult to recall some small detail which may have impacted.
I don't know how many times I've been asked to fix some PC problem and when you ask the person what happened between the time it was working last and now and invariably the answer is 'nothing'.  Of course later you find that they had upgraded their OS, installed a new video card and a heap of cracked software or some other such events.
'Oh I didn't think that made any difference' LOL
I'm not saying this is the case with you but something has occured which is out of the norm otherwise every Audition user would have this problem every time they used Audition and that is certainly not the case.
In my case (this is a few years ago) I went through a period where I would get a crash more often than not - to the point I was hesitant to do too much.
I ended up writing a specific ses/sesx backup utility (http://www.mediasweeper.com.au/sesbackup.htm). Maybe use that before or after each session until confidence returns
The crashes BTW were caused by a rogue video driver and since then the only crash I have had has been due to a dodgy plugin
Bottom line is that any small detail you can offer will only go towards someone working out the cause.
So think of things like - were you accessing the session across a network, was there something different about this session or the files used, a new hard drive, or new software or hardware just installed, etc, etc
Also (and yes I know it is too late now) but any session which requires work spanning a number of days should always be backed up to at least one other location - most of us have been guilty of not doing that at least once

I am trying to load any 9.0.3 firmware on my UCM 5.0.4.2000-1 server. Every newer firmware I load throws the following error. I have verified the MD5 is correct and also downloaded the file several times with the same result. I can load the same firmware file on another UCM server and it loads fine. Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance!

Thanks for your reply. We have a lab environment where I maintain  UCM 5.0, 5.1, 6.0, 6.1, 7.0, 7.1 and 8.0 servers each running the latest released firmware for our QA testing team. I have downloaded and installed the latest device packages but find that if I try to install any firmware newer then 8.3.1 on either 5.0.4 or 6.0 i start getting MD5 hash authentication errors. It looks like 9.0.3 firmware should work on UCM 5.0 and 6.0 so I am lost as to why I can't seem to update any firmware for any model phone if it is newer then version 8.3.1 on either 5.0 or 6.0. while 5.1 and 6.1 work without issues. Maybe it is just a bug. I mostly wanted to see if anyone else has experienced this or if it is just me.

  • The file may be corrupt. The file header checksum does not match the computed checksum.

I just put Vista Home Premium on a computer I was going to give to my son. Upon adding some hardware I kept getting the above screen. "The file may be corrupt. The file header checksum does not match the computed checksum.' When I booted in safe mode and slow boot, it hung on crcdisk.sys. I removed everything except the keyboard hhd dvd and fdd and it still does the same thing. I tried to reinstall Vista but it keeps hanging. From reading a lot of other threads this seems to be a big problem. I doubt if the product should have been marketed. But.... If anyone can help me get it booted I would like to try XP instead. I tried to install XP on the same drive and it hungs there too.

    Hi ballen6721,
    Thank you for the post.
This issue can occur if the newly installed hardware device is incompatible with the system.
Based on the current situation, I suggest trying the following steps to troubleshoot the issue:
    Method 1 Device Clean Boot
    ============================================
Please unplug all unnecessary devices such as sound card, printer, network card and TV card.
Method 2: Startup Repair from the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE)
    ============================================
    1. Insert the Windows Vista installation disc into the disc drive, and then start the computer.
    2. Press a key when the message indicating "Press any key to boot from CD or DVD …". appears.
    3. Select a language, a time and currency, and a keyboard or input method, and then click Next.
    4. Click Repair your computer.
    5. In the System Recovery Options dialog box, choose the drive of your Windows installation and click Next.
    6. At the System Recovery Options Dialog Box, click on Repair your computer.
    7. Click the operating system that you want to repair, and then click Next.
    8. In the System Recovery Options dialog box, click Startup Repair.
Method 3: Use the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) to run System Restore ============================================
    5. In the System Recovery Options dialog box, choose the drive of your Windows installation and click Next
    6. At the System Recovery Options Dialog Box, click on System Restore.
    7. Follow the System Restore Wizard instruction and choose the appropriate restore point.
    8. Click Finish to restore the system.
Note: If you computer is an OEM one, the method to enter WinRE can be different, you may contact your OEM to consult how to enter WinRE.
Can we start the computer now?
If the issue persists, please help confirm the following points:
    1. What hardware changes have you made recently?
    2. Can we enter Safe Mode now?
I look forward to hearing from you.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Try deleting the problematic file (electing to remove original file if/when prompted) and then re-downloading the file from the iTunes store.
You can re-download content purchased from the iTunes store (availability varies depending on location) using the purchased option from the Quick Links section in the top right corner of the iTunes homepage in your iTunes application on your computer.

  • How to recreate account.plist after the file has become corrupt

I updated my system to Mavericks last week and ever since my computer has become dramtically slow. Especially Mail takes about 30 minutes to open. I have discovered that the fault is caused by my account.plist file as it is 24 MB which seems way to big. I have already deleted the file and then Mail opens well and fuctions normal.
However when I add my accounts again it creates new POP folders in the V2 folder instead of using the old existing ones and it starts downloading the emails that still remain on the server. I would like to keep keep all emails etc just the way they are already on the system but basically just recreate a fresh "account.plist" file. How can I do this without the issue that mail creates new folders but just uses the existing folders???
I also already tried the following:
    - delete "account.plist"
    - Add new account in Mail
    - New folder is created in the V2 folder for that email address
    - Copy the old mbox files for that account into the automatically new created  folder
The above seems to work but mail still starts downloading 200+ plus emails from the server.......
Any help how I can edit my account.plist file and delete unnessesary items there?? It seems that there is a lot of text in the file regarding my hotmail account and I expect that this is causing it to be so large. I have no idea though how to read this file and what I can delete and what not.....
At this moment I am pretty stuck and any help is welcome here.

These fixes have helped others, depending on the situation.  I don't see one addressing your particular problem but they won't hurt.

    Try booting in Safe Mode.
Boot and when you hear the bong hold down the Shift key.
It will boot slowly.  Be patient.
              Login the the user account.
              Restart.
    Another fix to try:
    Shut down Mail.
Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
    Copy and paste the following
    ~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData/
    Click Go.
Move all "Envelope" files to your desktop.
Restart Mail and let it convert/reindex your mailboxes.
If this worked, Trash the Envelope files file that are on your desktop,
if not shut down Mail and put them back.
    Another fix:
    Shut down Mail.
Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
    Copy and paste the following:
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail/Data/Library/Caches/com.apple.mail/Cache.db
    Click Go.
Move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
Restart your Mac and try Mail.
You can try restoring mail from a Time Machine backup.
Hold down the Option key and in the Finder Go > Library
    Enter Time Machine.
Select a date and time from when Mail was working.
    Restore Mail.

Quit Mail. Force quit if necessary.
Back up all data. That means you know you can restore the Mail database, no matter what happens.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData/Envelope Index
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar. Paste into the box that opens (command-V), then press return.
A Finder window will open with a file selected. Move the selected file to the Desktop, leaving the window open. Other files in the folder may have names that begin with "Envelope Index". Move those files, if any, to the Trash.
Log out and log back in. Relaunch Mail. It should prompt you to re-import your messages. You may get a warning that the index is damaged and that Mail has to quit. Click OK.
Test. If Mail now works as expected, you can delete the file you moved to the Desktop. Otherwise, post your results.

  • Windows Media Player cannot access the file. The file might be in use, you might not have access to the computer where the file is stored, or your proxy settings might not be correct.

I tried the recommendations for fixing this below:
Follow these steps to grant full permissions to the folder where the files are stored: 1. Right click on the folder on the external drive and click on
properties. 2. On the property window, click Security tab.
    3. Now click on Edit and then click Add.
    4. Now type everyone in the box and
    click OK.
    5. Then check Full control check box.
    6. Click on Apply and then click OK.
You may also try the below mentioned steps:
    1. Click on Start. 2. Go to Control Panel. 3. Select "SOUND". 4. Double click on speakers. 5. Click on advanced tab and then uncheck enable audio enhancements.
But then I received the error message that I don't have rights to edit and add.  Why would this be?  I am the administrator?
    Thanks!

    Quit Mail, Trash this file...
Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), use Disk Utility from there to Repair Permissions, test if things work OK in Safe Mode.
Then move these files to the Desktop for now...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.recentitems.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist
    Reboot & test.
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.

  • "The file is possibly corrupt. The file header checksum does not match the computed checksum."

Yesterday evening, I accidentally dropped my Probook 6565b. It bluescreened with strange red boxes around the text, so I thought the screen or something was damaged. I emergency shut down the computer, and started it up again. It was visibly slower, but I was able to use it, so, relieved, I turned it off again and went to bed.
This morning, I tried to turn it on again. It started out normally (and I am able to access the start up screen) . But afterwards, it gives me a blank dark blue screen (like before you see the Windows logo) and it stays there for around 15 seconds before it gives me the error.
I have no idea what to do, so any advice would be greatly appreciated!
I think my operating system is Windows 7, but I'm not sure.
    Thank you.

I see you have damaged both your hardrive(hardware) and your operating sytem (corrupted too, software)
You may want to run an diagonstic test of your hard drive complete before trying to reinstall windows.
Press ESC right after power button and repeatdley and look for Diagnostic test and start up test and hard drive test.
