"The files are on a volume that does not support Trash. Would you like to permanently delete the item?"

Suddenly I've started getting the error "The files are on a volume that does not support Trash. Would you like to permanently delete the item?.
iMAC OSX 10.9.4.
LR 5.6,
Camara Raw 8.6
Any idea?
Please Help Me...
Thanks in advance
Jose

This is how I solved it, thanks to combined information posted on forums:
1. Got a new external hard drive formatted for Mac (I was using read-only Windows from my PC)
2. Created a folder in new external drive >imported to LR->send to trash- empty trash
3. The above was still not working until I noticed one day magically the missing picture icon started to show up in LR
4. I went to the "set as rejected"pictures> locate missing pic (and nearby ones)
5. Selected the pics -photo>remove> delete from disk
Done!!!
Thanks to the hours spent on searching different threads, and to the relentless users because LR never provided any kind of support or formal response to solve this by just letting users to getting lost in frustration .

  • The files are on a volume that does not support Trash- Mountain Lion CC-Lr5

I'm trying to delete files in Lr5-CC and I'm running Mountain Lion My files are on an external portable HD.  I'm getting a message that says: "The files are on a volume that does not support Trash." Does anyone know why this happens and how to fix it?  Thank you

    Hello,
This reply is months late, but hopefully it'll help you or someone else searching with this problem. I was having the same problem and found a way to get rid of it (permanently, it seems so far). The diagram below shows the steps I took in detail.
Note: This seems to especially be a problem if your photo files on the same disk as a Mac OS installation or bootable backup.
    Hope this helps:

  • The files are on a volume that does not support trash message that appears with Lightroom 3

When I try to delete photos on LR3, this message appears.  This did not happen when I first installed this over a year ago.  How do I fix this?

I contacted Adobe support, I was told to rename my preference files for lightroom, I did, and then I ended up with the original plist files and the renamed ones, and the same problem.  The guy I talked to at Adobe said that this was an issue with Mac/Lion.  I then contacted Apple, who said that this was not their application and that there was nothing they could do.

That is not what i am saying, if you read my post you will see that this USE to work and it stoped working since mac os 10.8
This does seem to be Apple problem if you read this article
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4218
the issue i am having is this .
if i create a text file in windows with notepad and save it on a nas drive.
inside a text file i will have
    this is a test
i go to my mac open the text file with textedit and add following text in new line
    this is test 2
now i go back to windows box open same text file you will see that following
this is a testthis is test 2
basicly what it does it puts it on same line as the first line.
and this all use to be fine before 10.8.2
I am sorry if i came across rude i just need some help.

  • The document "PP_CS_Higher Education_USA_V1" is on a volume that does not support permanent version storage.

The document “PP_CS_Higher Education_USA_V1” is on a volume that does not support permanent version storage. Not sure what this means exactly.
    Any thoughts out there?

This error is is usually encountered when trying to update a file that has been opened from a CD or DVD disc.
Move the file to the desktop before you open it.
Where is this file stored, a CD or DVD, external  hard drive, USB memory ?

  • Xcode: volume that does not support ownership

I just tried to install the latest Xcode which, after installing its components, flashed this warning:
"Xcode is running from a volume that does not support ownership. Please move Xcode to one that does."
Any clue what's up with that and how to fix it? If this is a permissions issue, I haven't had any difficulties related to permissions for quite awhile.
    Thank you!

    Run Disk Utility
Select the boot disk (usually called Macintosh HD)
In the File Menu select 'Get Info'
Scroll down the list and look for 'Owners Enabled', this should say yes but if it says no might explain your problem
If you are running Xcode from a volume other than your boot disk repeat the above for the appropriate volume to find the same answer
Now assuming the answer is that the respective volume has 'Owners Enabled' set to no i.e. off, then this needs fixing, for a volume other than your boot drive this is fairly easy
    Go to the Finder
Select the volume - not a file or a folder
Go the File Menu and select Get Info
Look at the bottom of the Get Info window for the option 'Ignore ownership on this volume'
You need to first 'unlock' the Get Info window by clicking on the padlock symbol and entering an admin password
Then make sure the 'Ignore ownership on this volume' option is not ticked
If it is your boot volume then the process is different. You are probably going to either need to boot from a different volume to do it, or you are going to have to do it via Terminal.app. If your doing it via Terminal you first need to find out the device name for the volume. You would do this by typing
    diskutil list
Typically your boot disk is going to be something like /dev/disk0s2 once you have found the right one then the next command would be
    sudo diskutil enableOwnership /dev/disk0s2
assuming that /dev/disk0s2 is the right choice.

  • Xcode is running from a volume that does not support ownership. Please move Xcode to one that does.

I have Problem,  I can't install Xcode 6.1 on my iMac due "Xcode is running from a volume that does not support ownership. Please move Xcode to one that does."
I have two HD partition, First one I use for my Lion OS, and the second I just installed Yosemite since Xcode 6.1 need OS upper than lion.
    Here's my HD Info.
    Mac HD : Yosemite
    Machintosh HD: Lion
I do try to uncheck and check when I install Xcode. Maybe I don't know where should I put Xcode.dmg when I want to install.
    Thank you. Sorry bad english.

Run Disk Utility select the volume you are installing Xcode on and look at the bottom of the screen and make sure Owners Enabled: says yes.
Also make sure there are no other versions of Xcode anywhere on your system. If there are delete them all and then do a fresh download and install of Xcode, BTW why are you nor installing from the Mac App Store, where did you get the dmg from?
post back if that does not resolve the issue.

  • Everytime I open iphoto, my computer tells me A photo has been found in the iPhoto Library that was not imported.  Would you like to import it.  no matter what I do, iphoto puts the pic in recovered files.  How do I fix this?

Everytime I open iphoto, my computer tells me,  A photo has been found in the iPhoto Library that was not imported.  Would you like to import it.  If I import it, a message comes up Unreadable file, the following file could not be imported. them it tells me where the file is and it cannot be opened.  If I do not import, then it says,The photo has been placed in the folder /Users/patrick*******/Pictures/iPhoto Library Recovered Photos_4.  It will just keep adding to recvovered photos.  This drives me crazy!!!!!!!  How do I fix this?

I had this problem some months ago and the following solution from Terrence Delvin put things right:
Go to your Pictures Folder and find the iPhoto Library there. Right (or Control-) Click on the icon and select 'Show Package Contents'. A finder window will open with the Library exposed.
Look there for a Folder called 'Import' or 'Importing'.
Drag it to the Desktop. *Make no other changes*.
    Start iPhoto. Does that help?
If it does then look inside that folder on your desktop. Does it contain anything you want? If not you can trash the folder.
However, since connecting a memory stick to my computer, I now have the same problem again.  This time there is no folder called 'Import' or 'Importing' so what should I do?

  • Ever since enabling Soft Delete on one of my tables, the logs are flooded with "... does not support the 'deleted' system property"

I enabled Soft Delete on one of my Azure Mobile Services tables, and ever since then, the logs are flooded with tons of warnings that say something like this:
The table 'Section' does not support the 'deleted' system property.
Is there a way to suppress these warnings, or is it advisable to enable soft delete for all of my tables?
As a follow on, is there a way to export the logs so that it's easier to peruse through them and search?
    Thanks :)

    Hi
You can set your logging level in Azure Admin portal to be Error only, so it only logs errors and warnings will be ignored.

  • The document "test1" is on a volume that does not support permanent version storage. Your changes have been saved and you will not be able to access older versions of this document once you close it. To undo your changes, click Revert.

I have created share points on the mini mac server HD hard drive as we previously had issues with the server HD share points and security. This has all been working fine until recenrly and this error message keeps appearing evry time you want to save a document. Is it linked to the fact i have created a new folder on the HD drive and used that folder as a share point for all users to save to? Any help apprecisted thanks.

Great thank you. I assume I cant add a /.DocumentRevisions-V100 to the share point?
    Would you mind explaining this issue also? I seems obvious but I just want to be certain. The error meassage reads;
The document "Chester" could not be autosaved. The file has been changed by another application.
Click Save Anyway to keep your changes and save the changes made by the other application as a version, or click Revert to keep the changes from the other application and save your changes as a version.
Does it mean another application as in another user on the SHARE POINT folder and the document "Chester"  has opened this document ? Or does it mean another application as in pages and numbers? either way

  • When opening iPhoto 9.5.1 a dialog box appears: "A photo has been found in the iPhoto library that was not imported". "Would you like to import it?" After appearing twice iPhoto then opens normally with no changes and works OK. Why dose this happen.

I've edited my NEF photos in lightroom and have tried to export to a formatted CD. When I try, I have several issues. I either see in the top left corner that the files are ready to go to CD but there is no further instruction or I get the pop up message that the files are offline or missing??

Just for background, in what format are you exporting your images?  Also, are you able to export them to your hard drive in your chosen format?  I haven't tried exporting directly to CD, but if you're able to export to hard drive and copy to CD, that may be one solution.

The file path for these songs IS NOT correct per your iTunes Library file.
See: http://dougscripts.com/itunes/scripts/ss.php?sp=listmias  for an Applescript to locate these files for re-adding.
