The Future of Logic - Soundtrack Pro 2 ?

WOW! If you get a minute, check out the Apple promo pages for Soundtrack Pro 2 (part of Final Cut Studio 2).
http://www.apple.com/finalcutstudio/soundtrackpro/
Some of the capabilities are really cool. The multi-take manager, spectral EQ/editor, HUD enhancements, noise reduction, tabbed single window interface that can be rearranged... it goes on and on...
Watch the series of QT videos to get a better sense. The list of videos scrolls right with the arrow.
Would LOVE it if some of these features migrate to the next version of Logic.
MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo 2.33 - 2 GB RAM - 160 GB HD - 30" Cinema Display   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   Logic Pro 7.2.3 - RME FireFace 800 - LaCie "Rugged" 100 GB 7200 RPM FW Drive

I'm sure apple will have Logic in the same mold as this, it makes sense on a number of levels. Logic should be seen as an upgrade for sound track users as well as a competitor to protools et al. If it seems too different to ST users then it won't work like that.
I think that Sound track pro with it's multi take management, is showing signs of all the feedback I've been giving to apple lately, and I know loads of people here will see there desires in there so lets hope it's in the next Logic too. That stuff will give Digidesign a REAL headache!!

    2) What key command in logic when double clicked (or key command) will open the aiff file in Sound Track and after editing put back into Logic?

  • The future of Logic

I don't know if anyone from the Apple development team read these comments but I am hoping they do. There are many Logic pro users who are getting concerned about the future of logic as any development is shrouded in secrecy. I am aware that a lot of people who are considering alternatives such as cubase as they seem to really care about the product and are always striving to make it the best. Some rumors have been that there will be no logic x and it will simply become garage band that caters for the masses and not for the professional user. I feel as do the rest of the pro logic users that its about time we where told something about the future so we can make desicion's based on this! If there is anyone from apple reading this PLEASE give us some info and put a stop to all the different speculations that are going on.

It will never happen, it's not Apple's M.O to talk about products under development or release dates.
This is a user forum we know no more than you and if anyone does know they can't say because of the non-disclosure-agreement they've signed.
Who knows, it could be in a couple of weeks or 10 months. (my guess is the former)

  • Have the makers of Logic or Pro Tools given any thought to the Df/deaf producers wishing to use these programs?

Have the creators of Logic or Pro tools given any consideration to the Df/deaf musicians wishing to produce with these programs? They just rely on visual arrangement of sonic information that must be 'listened' to to throughout composition. There must be away of improving this inaccessibility.

    Hello, Please Help!
When I bring the mastered audio from Soundtrack pro back to final cut pro 7, the audio plays well at the beginning 3 mins later it doesn't sync.
    Please Help!!!

Make sure your easy setup has the correct frame rate for your sequence.  Seems crazy but somehow or other fcp assigns a frame rate to audio files.   I've found this can sometimes be tricky to get right.  Here's what I've done to force the issue.  Make sure the easy setup frame rate reflects that of the target sequence in fcp.  Create a new project.  import the audio in the new project.  And then copy the clip from the new project to your main project.
    Good luck

  • Level inconsistencies between Logic, Soundtrack Pro, Waveburner

Why is it that when I bounce a track out of Logic with normalization, sometimes (but not always) when I pop it into Soundtrack Pro, it'll peak at -.1 or -.15? And then I'll normalize it and then give it a little +.07 AUPeakLimiter. Then when I pop that I'll into Waveburner, it occasionally won't bounce out of that because it says I have clipping even though I went through those previous steps.
    Anybody else notice these inconsistencies?

I don't agree with "never normalize", especially when the normalization adds only 2 dB or less. Of course you can look at the level meter, see that the highest peak is -1,8 and just put the volume slider 1,8 dB higher; but that would yield the +exact same result+ as normalising. And if you have only two or three peaks that jump (way) out, I'ld recommend editing those manually, just reduce the gain on the cycle(s) that contains the peak(s) in the Wave Editor.
    regards, Erik.

  • How do i use the stretching tool in soundtrack pro

i have a split track song with muitiple track.got them all loaded in soundtrack pro, when i play the track there are i lot of skips please help big project for fathers day

O.K. so do you need to slow down the music, or speed it up? That's what the stretching tool is for, like in a video scene where the music slows to the tempo the actors are speaking. To use it; you must have an audio file: export multiple tracks by selecting them and choosing Export from the file menu. If you're trying to interlace audio then you should export each track individually and paste them together in an audio file. Next select the audio you want to change then drag the parameters of the selected music: either forwards to delay, or backwards to speed up, just like changing the crop of a photo. Be aware that you can drastically change the audio, trial and error works best, just use Edit>undo till you get it. Also try removing some clicks and pops in analysis.

  • Help!  Can't Access the Effects Tab In Soundtrack Pro

I'm not sure what it was caused by, but recently when I open Soundtrack Pro, I recieve the following message:
    NSInvalidArgumentException
    *** -[NSKeyedUnarchiver initForReadingWithData:]: incomprehensible archive (0x62, 0x70, 0x6c, 0x69, 0x73, 0x74, 0x30, 0x30)
After booting, Soundtrack Pro seems to run perfectly fine except for the fact that I'm unable to select the "effects" option (neither from the overhead toolbar, nor from the inspector pane on the bottom left of the screen).
I found no results through immediate searches online.  Does anyone know what the issue may be and what I need to do to fix it?

This type of problem can be caused by using an add-on that is not compatible with Firefox 4. For details of how to troubleshoot that see https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes

  • Trouble with the round trip from Soundtrack Pro 2 to Final Cut Pro

I have edited a home movie together. I then have sent the sequence to Color for grading and then after completing the Color changes and Rendering. I sent it back to Final Cut Pro. It starts out working fine but during the transfer process it stops at somewhere between 50% and 60%. It is during the "Importing XML Data" phase. It just sits there and does not change and I have to force quit to get out of it. The exact same thing happens when I try to round trip from Soundtrack Pro 2 back to Final Cut Pro. So I am unable to make use of the changes I make in these programs.
This is a round trip process that I have successfully made many times before. Nothing has changed. I am working in Final Cut Studio 2 with the latest updates on an Intel Mac. Any advice on how to remedy this situation would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you in advance.

  • Where's the pen tool in soundtrack pro

I am used to adjusting audio levels in FCP using the pen tool and adding key frames. I don't see how you can do that in STP. The only volume adjustment it makes is global.
    Please help

The keyframes show up on the envelope rows. You can get them to show up in the mulitrack view by clicking the little disclosure triangle to the left of hte track name in the track header. (See over there by where it says "Trk 1"? That thing.)
Two purple rows show up for volume and pan. You can create envelope points by double-clicking on the line, and then dragging the resulting point up and down to set the level.
If you want to have more control, hit F2 go to the mixer view. Up at the top of the mixer window there's two pop-ups. One says the name of the project, and the other defaults to "Read". That means that Soundtrack will read the envelopes and animate the faders. If you set that to "Latch" or "Touch", start soundtrack playing, and then jiggle some faders, you will record a bazillion envelope points. (I'll let you refer to the documentation for the difference between Latch and Touch.)
Remember to set it back to Read so you don't accidently whomp your envelope points later!

  • Logic can't access the effects of Soundtrack Pro

I'm wondering why some of the sound effects in Soundtrack Pro can't be access by the media browser of Logic Pro 8?
Cuz I'm unfamiliar with the UI of Soundtrack Pro

Please take a screenshot and post the output in your reply.

  • Upgrading to Tiger, Logic Pro, Soundtrack Pro, Etc

    Hi,
Between me and Santa, it's been a really great Mac Christmas but I have some questions that I couldn't really find exact answers for by searching the forums.
I'm currently running OS 10.3.9 with Logic Express, Garageband (original) and Soundtrack (original). I'm about to upgrade to Tiger and have iLife 05 (with Garageband 2) here with upgrades to both Logic & Soundtrack Pro on the way.
I've decided to do an erase and install when I upgrade to Tiger just to wipe the slate clean (too many tried and abandoned freewares and demos!), but I'm a little confused about the best way to install all the new audio apps:
    1) Since I'm UPGRADING to Logic Pro and Soundtrack Pro, is it necessary for me to have Logic Express and the original Soundtrack installed before installing the upgrades, or will these install fine just by referencing my original activation codes or whatever?
    2) Would you recommend that I install Garageband 2 from the iLife 05 disc? I know there's a lot of redundancy, but it seems some posts here implied having GB2 installed was necessary for LP to work to its fullest (EXS instruments, Jam Packs etc)...I'm hoping I won't need to install GB2.
    3) Since STP comes with many of the same effects & loops as LP, is there anything I should consider doing to streamline the install or save disc space and avoid too much duplication?
    4) I'm sure I'll need to install the latest Pro Application Support releases. Should I do that after installing LP & STP or before? Does it matter?
    5) Finally, and I suppose this might be more appropriate on a different forum, but while I have you here: this G5 is my main computer for my .Mac account (we have a few other Macs in the house). Do I need to take any steps like deauthorizing or anything to make the transition smooth?
Thanks for any help, suggestions or recommendations! Looking forward to finally being current....

Thanks again, Justin. Had some issues...after installing Logic and moving on to the Content disc, the Installer for the Logic Pro Bonus Sounds kept quitting each time I tried to run it. Updated Logic to 7.1.1 and it was able to install, but it took about an hour. When I tried to drag the tutorial folder to my hard drive, it said it would take approximately 33 hours to copy the 500MB file! Weird.
Also, before updating to 7.1.1, I tried launching Logic and it held for over an hour while Scanning Audio Units on: (19/21) AuAudioFilePlayer. Did a Force Quit on the Auval(?), which was not responding, and Logic opened fine, and has since. Don't know if this might not bode well for the future though.
Biggest Problem: Looking at the Loop Browser, I'm only seeing Garageband Loops from the drop-down menu. With Express, I could see other Sub-Groups besides GB Loops. I've installed Soundtrack Pro, and I know it's missing those as well because the "Vocal" tab is greyed out and, being sure there are some vocal loops in STP, I dragged the HD/Library/Audio/Apple Loops/Apple Loops for Soundtrack Pro onto the Loop Browser and it seems to have indexed them as at least now the "Vocal" tab has loops in it.
However, I'm still not seeing "Soundtrack Pro Loops" or anything new in the drop-down menu - which was always handy to access specific loop sets such as ones I installed on my own. I'm just worried that I'm not getting access to the Loops that came with Logic Pro! Any thoughts?
Thanks so much for your help ~Knight (presto211)

  • Using Logic and Soundtrack pro

    Hello everyone,
I am trying to open a sound file from the arange window in soundtrack pro, the file opens great in soundtrack pro, I was only wondering something when i apply changes to the file in soundtrack pro and go back to logic arrange the file is still the same and cannot preview the new file done in soundtarck pro. Do i need to save the file first and then reopen it in logic from the bin? Or is there something I am missing when I edit an aiff in sound track pro.
    Thank you again for input.

    Hi,
to answer the original poster's question:
when you are done applying changes effects etc. in Soundtrack, you need to "flatten" the file - it's down there next to where you see the list of all "actions", it says flatten all actions (or something like that), then hit save in STP.
Now when you go back to Logic, the file should update accordingly.
    Hope that helps.
I understand this is how it is meant to be, but it has not worked for me for a couple of versions. I am having the same issue with Apple Loop Utility not updating the file in Logic.

  • My editied soundtrack pro file only exports as the old, unedited version

I imported an AIF file that is the exported soundtrack to my FCP project. I had to export the soundtrack instead of sending the track directly to soundtrack pro, because the changes I made in sound track would not carry over to my FCP project. After I had edited my AIF file in STP I have tried exporting it as an AIF file to be imported into FCP, but everytime STP creates the file it is with the OLD audio. I have done this multiple times in different ways, but there seems to be no way to get my edited audio into my FCP project. Please advise. Thanks!
