  • "Graduated Filter" tool in Aperture 3?

I have been using Lightroom 2.7 for the past time, but want to give Aperture 3 a chance as well. My favorite and often used feature in Lightroom is the "graduated filter" tool that allows me to reduce the exposure selectively and in a graduated manner in blown out skies and other areas that are overexposed.
In Aperture 3, I didn't find a similar tool. How do you deal with overexposed areas in your RAW images in Aperture 3? Is there such a thing like a "graduated filter" tool or are there other ways to selectively (and "quickly & dirtily") correct exposure in selected areas of your image?
Thanks for any hints - this is the killer feature in Lightroom that is crucial for me.

There are a few options which may provide you with satisfactory results. As mentioned you can Brush in effects to lighten or darken wherever you brush for example using the Dodge or Burn adjustments as appropriate. You may also get good results using the Exposure brick, specifically with the Recovery or *Black Point* sliders. Also the *Highlights & Shadows* brick may do the trick with the Advanced settings allowing you to only alter high tone, low tone or mid contrast ranges that you can define. Curves can also do magic in this area and may take some playing with but has the potential to be your new favourite ‘must have’ tool!

  • Graduated Filter Tool

The graduated filter tool in LR 3 Develop module works fine but the grid lines that displayed the area affected are missing. How can I restore them?

    Works fine now. Thanks

  • Adjustment Brush Tool or Graduated Filter Tool in Camera Raw for Photoshop Elements 12?

Is there an Adjustment Tool or Graduated Filter Tool in Camera Raw for Photoshop Elements 12?

Those are Lightroom tools for those who don't want to use a regular pixel editor like Photoshop or Elements which have much more powerful tools to do that.
The idea with the reduced set of feature in the ACR version of Elements is that features available in Elements are not necessary in ACR. You need to use the Elements editor more frequently than if you are working with Lightroom.

  • The graduated filter in my Lightroom 4 is not working properly.

When I highlight the area I want to change and start making adjustments (and the black dot is in the circle), the whole photo changes. I have used this tool successfully many times in the past and don't understand why it stopped working. Ideas?

The black dot is in the circle that shows where the graduation filter is being used. When I use any of the sliders to change what I highlighted with the graduated filter, it changes the whole photo, not just what I selected.

  • Lightroom 4 Graduated Filter tool

How do you change from compact mode to expanded mode in Graduated filter tool in Lightroom 4?

What do you mean by Compact mode?
    - When you select the graduated filter, the menu expands. When you deselect the Graduated filter the menu rolls up.

In this episode of The Complete Picture, discover the power of making selective adjustments like dodging and burning, color corrections and noise removal using the Graduated Filter and Adjustment Brush in Lightroom 4. Note: although this video was recorded in Lightroom, the same techniques are available in Adobe Camera Raw in Photoshop CS6.

Julianne is a great tutor but the picture behind her head is distracting.

  • Has the width and colour of the graduated filter changed in Lightroom 5.4?

    Hi,
Has the width and colour of the graduated filter changed in Lightroom 5.4? The 3 lines seem to be too narrow, almost a hairline, and not white enough. I can barely see them on a calibrated monitor and did not have that problem before upgrading to Lightroom 5.4.
    Thanks for your help.
    Kind regards,

Ok, je vois où pourrait se situer le problème....
Il faut baisser la luminosité de cet écran, le mieux est de mettre la luminosité à 50% et de calibrer cet écran avec une sonde, par exemple une Syder4pro ou une autre !
OK, I see where could be the problem...Lower the brightness of the screen, the better is the brightness to 50% and to calibrate this monitor with a probe, for example a Syder4pro or another!
    Best regards

  • Will LR get the new brush feature added to the graduated filter and radial filter like the latest version of Camera raw?

Will LR get the new brush feature added to the graduated filter and radial filter like the latest version of Camera raw?

OK, at least I can look forward to it and use Photoshop & CR instead of LR for these filters until then.
    Thanks

  • I have Camera Raw 8.7.1 and I don't have camera raw filter and the radial filter tool

I have Camera Raw 8.7.1 and I don't have camera raw filter or the radial filter tool.  Reading on line says it should be available?  I am confused... why do I not have these tools?

Because you’re using CS6 not CC.

  • Resetting the Graduated Filter Panel's Color Palette...How To???

After using the Graduated Filter Panel's color palette, I can't seem to reset it so that there is no color tint being applied.  All the other functions reset when I use Alt/double click but not the color function.  Can someone please let me know what I need to do?  I am currently using the 3.3RC version of LR.
    Thanks

Thank you. Double clicking on "effect" worked.

  • Has anyone had problems using the Graduated Filter in Lightroom 4.1?

  • The graduated filter shows no change in the main screen image. It works on the small thumbnail in the upper left hand corner...

My graduated filter doesn't work in the main image, but shows changes in the small upper left thumbnail.
    How do I fix?

In LR Prferences try unchecking 'Use Graphics Processor.'
If that works next try upgrading your graphics drivers via AMD, Intel, or Nvida webste for your graphics adapter model.

  • I love the graduated filter and circular filter tools.

So useful. Both would be MUCH more useful if I could hold Alt and I would get a brush tool with to brush away effect in areas where I don't want it applied! Does that exist or am I dreaming?

Thanks, BKKDon, but I'm looking for this option to be available in Lightroom. The functionality usually trickles down from Photoshop CC, so I'm hoping it's on the way if it's not already there.
So, you need to realign your expectations a bit...now that Photoshop is a subscription only product, ACR can add new features when they are ready and not wait till the next major upgrade. Lightroom is still a perceptual license and as such can not get the new features and functionality that ACR gets until the next major upgrade. So, if it's in ACR now, it won't be in LR till the next major upgrade (such as LR 6).
However, there is a workaround....if you use ACR 8.5/6 to alter the radial or gradient filters by using the filter brush, if you save the metadata to the file after an ACR edit and then read the metadata in LR from the file, the filter brushes will render correctly. You won't be able to edit the filter brushes in LR 5.x but it will render them.

  • Since a recent update i no longer have a send button. All that is left is the quick filter tool bar

When i open my messages i have at the right reply ,forward, archive, junk and delete. When i select reply and the write page appears there is no longer a send button or attachment icon anywhere. How can I get it back to how it was?

    '''Open a Write window.'''
Do you have a menu bar with File-Edit-View etc? If not press the''' alt''' key.
From the menu bar select '''View-Toolbars''' and turn the missing toolbars back on. Send is on the Composition Toolbar.
