The Great DVD Shortage of 2008...a reliable source for optical media?

I go through a lot of inkjet-printable DVD-R 100-packs. I used to buy Memorex from Newegg, then they started limiting the quantity I could order to 2 at a time. "Just use another credit card," customer service told me. I could play this game if I weren't ordering for a state institution, for which the tiniest purchase generates a forest of red tape.
I discovered some Maxells at B&H that worked well, but they seem to have a problem keeping them in stock.
It's really a pain...each brand has a slightly different printable surface area, which throws my label templates off, plus I'd like to stick to a brand and retailer that I trust.
Does anyone know of a reliable source for blank DVD's?
Thanks.
Zap

If you don't mind, I'll toss in my two cents worth in here.
I did use Maxell, till they moved there manufacturing to Mexico, then the quality control when down the tubes, (hit and miss with disks having the white print coating transferring to the optical surface of the disk above it.
I'm now using Taiyo Yuden Water Shield printable disk and love them. The disks don't stick together when stacked on an automated printer stack, causing a miss feed like Maxells did. Every Taiyo Yuden disks optical surface is pristine and perfect, (no transfer of the white print coating from the disk below.)
The best part is that once the ink hits the disks surface, it's dry, you can wipe your hand across it immediately without the ink smearing and the best part, you can hold the disk under water and the ink will not run, the ink becomes impervious to water, with a glossy finish that looks crisp and professional.

Clean the connector on the bottom of the phone. Use a magnifying glass, bright light, and a wood or plastic toothpick. If you got the phone wet put it in a bag of uncooked rice for several days, not hours.

  • Where can I find a reliable source for downloading iTunes 7.6.2?

I have purchased a new computer and wish to transfer my iTunes library from the old to the new computer. Unfortunately iTunes 7.6.2 is installed on my own computer (and is no longer hooked up to the internet)and Version 8 iTunes is loaded on my new computer. Version 8 cannot read version 7 files. I have been trying to locate a reliable source fo version 7.6.2 to download onto my new compter, transfer my files and then update to version 8. What should I do? Does anyone know where I can find a reliable and safe download of 7.6.2?

Could you explain a little more about exactly what you are trying to do and what happens when you do it.
I can't see why you should not be able to transfer files to your new PC if you do it the right way.
Here is an article on using an iPod to do the transfer:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1329?viewlocale=en_US
Bu the method is essentially the same if you use an external drive to do the transfer, or copy the files across a network.

  • The great DVD media question (again prolly?)

    Hi,
    iMac g5 rev b with Matshita uj-845
I have 20 photo slideshows to burn off for a friends sons christening and want reliable media that will:
    1. Burn 8x
    2. Offer the best compatablity for stand alone players
    3. Offer best price/quality balance
UK based, so please, any recommedations for good a and online suppliers welcome. Will also need nicey slim dvd cases as well.
    Ta {:O)

Sony and TDK discs have worked the best for me. FujiFilm would only burn at 2X. Pricewise, I don't know if there are Best Buy's or Circuit City's in the UK, but every few weeks Sony DVD-R's go on sale for half price ($19.00 for 50). Beware of generic DVD-R's because sometimes they won't burn at top speed!

  • Change the source for a media player based on selection from a list.

All of this is referring to my public facing website in Office 365.
I put the following code in a content editor web part:
    <audio controls>
      <source src="http://someserver/somefile.mp3" type="audio/mpeg">
    </audio>
    This works just fine.
What I want to do, is display a table below this which is a list of mp3's. when the user clicks on one of them the audio plays in the <audio controls>.
In other words, I want to change the source of the above player when I click on a link elsewhere in the page.
    Thank you
    Joe Fager

What you'll need to do is have a javascript onclick/onchange event in the dropdown that runs a set of code that will reset the audio control with the new source. That can be done with jQuery.

  • Can I buy just the prong part of my U.S. power source for use in Ireland?

I have a MacBook which I am taking to Ireland next month.   I see that my power source comes apart, so that the prongs can be interchanged.   Where can I buy a 3-pronged piece that I can substitute my 2-prong piece?   I live in the U.S.  This will save be dealing with converter plugs etc.  One less thing to bring with me, or much smaller, I should say.
    Thank you.

ahhh, the pins... In my dictionary "prong" means "fork", and I would never use yor "prong" as a fork...

  • What are the Great Features of the JTable?

    Hi frienz,
I am working on JTable so i just want to know that what are the great feature that we can achieve using JTable for the information?

Seems an upside-down question. It implies that you're after a solution to a problem you haven't got. You'll get on much better if you think of what you want to achieve, and wonder if JTable can do it, otherwise you'll end up cramming your application full of useless features nobody wanted and are awkward to use, just so you can use Shiny JTable Feature 'X'

  • Cannot reset password from the OS DVD?

after restart using the system DVD while pressing 'C' I annot find the "reset password' under utilities. What am I doing wrong?

    Hi--
I think the problem is this. Your MacBook is Intel
based. The Tiger DVD install disk you said you used
for your G4 is for a PowerPC.
Carolyn is correct. You'd need the discs that came with your MacBook in order to start up your MacBook. The operating system on the Tiger DVD is only for the PowerPC. There are currently no "generic" retail Tiger installers for Intel Macs, because all the currently shipping Intel Macs came with Tiger, and there's no reason for the retail Tiger discs to have the Intel code..
You should try calling Apple and see if they'll let you order replacement installer discs for your MacBook.

  • Cannot start up from the install DVD

I have a Macbook and I need to run the disk utility and repair the start up disk. I insert the Tiger install DVD, hold down the c key as I restart, but it always starts up from the start up disk, not the DVD.
    What gives?
OK some more info. I got the Macbook used and it did not come with the install disk. But I have a DVD of Tiger I bought to run on my old G4 which I am using to start up on the Macbook.
Macbook version is 10.4.8, DVD version is 10.4.6.

  • Why isnt "the last roundup" and "hearts and hooves day" avaliable for download itunes?

Many bronys from around the world may know this already, but the 2 episodes: "the last roundup" and "hearts and hooves day" are unavaliable for download in the itunes store. and for people who bought the season pass, like me, are alittle ****** off that we're not getting 2 episodes that we payed for to get. so im asking: why the heck were the episods taken off in the first place?! (and i know why "the last round up was taken off for the stupidest reason: derpy talking. i mean, COME ON! its not that big of deal.)

OK - are you saying that the tracks following the "missing" one have been renumbered (i.e., if the missing track is #7 that those that should be 8, 9, 10 are labeled as 7, 8 9)?  Was the "missing" track previously present and correct, or has it been absent since the album was added to your library?
The most likely cause of what you're seeing is that the "missing" track is in your library, but not where you expect it to be.  There are several scenarios in which the metadata (or "tags") that iTunes uses to group songs into albums can be modified, without you necessarily realizing that its happened.  If you search your whole library within iTunes, looking for the song by name, does it turn up anywhere?  If not, can you find the file (probably .m4a or .mp3, depending on source) for the "missing song"?  The exact name may vary but it will probably include "last night on earth" as part of the file name.
For this specific example, is the album on you've imported yourself from CD, purchased from the iTunes Store, or from some other online source such as Amazon?

  • I need to buy a new MB for college! I'm thinking of getting a 13" MBA w/ the external DVD/CDROM drive and portable/external/whatever it's called memory. Where should I buy, Best Buy or Apple Store?

So basically a BB employee told me that instead of giving me the apple giftcard (one that would given to me for the back-to-school deal at apple) they would discount that off. Also, she says that their insurance policy (instead of apple care) would replace my macbook "then and there" if anything were to happen to it. Sounds too good to be true since I've had MANY MANY troubles with BB when I bought my first and only white MB 4 years ago. They were horrible. But she said the policy has changed since then and that people come in to exchange MBs daily. Can anyone help me! :3 Thank you <3
ALSO, (sorry for being a pain) is the MBA a good choice if I'm getting an external/portable hardrive as well as a DVD/CD-ROM drive? I need a MB for college stuff: writing papers, projects, presentations, other general college stuff. MBA doesn't have moving parts, which is a huge plus since I am not careful with my things, and will probably drop my MB a million times.

MacBook Air is a perfect choice for a college student. I have used a MBA as my only machine for several years now and am a professional in the advertising industry. I write a lot, do some (little) graphics work, code, and create presentations and videos. It's more than capable.
I have an external CDRW/DVDRW but I got mine from Amazon it's not Apple-branded. It works great but was a fraction of the cost. Also if you buy the Air from Amazon you can get free shipping and pay no sales tax, which may come out to less than getting the educational discount. However, if you qualify for both the $100 gift card and the educational discount you'll probably come out better getting it at Apple.
Here's the top of the line Air at Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00746YD24/ref=as_li_ss_til?tag=beley-20&camp=0&creati ve=0&linkCode=as4&creativeASIN=B00746YD24&adid=0PNV1Q2S073PY61NZQZX&

  • How do I create a start-up disk image without restarting from the Install DVD?

(I know this is not MacBook Pro question per se, but I can't find a software discussion this applies to.)
    Situation:
My MBP is running, but it's acting up and Onyx tells me that the start-up volume needs repair and directs me to use Disk Utility.
But to repair a volume using Disk Utility, you must restart from the original Install DVD (or some other start-up volume).
But although the MBP will read my old Leopard Install DVD and the Install DVD that came with my MBP, it refuses to restart from either of them. (Trying to do so gets as far as the Apple logo on a gray screen and then hangs there; all disk activity ceases.)
    Question:
How can I (is it even possible to) create a start-up volume on my external FW drive without starting my MBP from a DVD?
In other words, is there a way to either:
    a) create a disk image from the Install DVD on my external FW drive and then designate that disk image as my start-up drive?
    OR
    b) create a disk image on my MBP's internal drive that I can then use to run a System Install on my external drive?
(BTW, I know I can create disk images using Disk Utility, but it offers many options for type, compression, etc., that are beyond me. )
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

OS X Lion includes a new feature called Lion Recovery that includes all of the tools you need to reinstall Lion, repair your disk, and even restore from a Time Machine backup without the need for optical discs.
Restart your Mac holding down the Command-R to enter the Recovery HD.
From there you can use Disk Utilty.

  • I removed my optical drive because i added an ssd hard drive. when i plug in the dvd to usb it will not play from the macbooks dvd program. the error message is there was an initialization error, a valid drive could not be found.

I can go into disk utility and see the optical drive and mount what ever cd is in the drive and quicktime will play it. but i would like to have the dvd program recognize the optical drive and open what ever is in it.

Freakin amazing! I installed a new 1TB Samsung SSD in my main hard drive slot and moved my old hard drive into my DVD slot and moved my DVD to an external DVD case and it would never work with movies, only software disks. I have Late 2011 Macbook Pro running Mavericks with 1TB Samsung SSD and a 512GB HDD in the DVD slot with my DVD in an OWC external DVD case.
I tried this trick but at first, this did not work because OxED was saving the new file as a text file and not a unix file. I was perplexed until I read the comments below the article and found the tip to use Terminal to change the saved file to a Unix file. I have never used Terminal before and I had no clue what I was doing, but I just followed the steps to a T and it worked. It took two tries with Terminal.
The comment mentioned "Code:" so I typed that along with the rest and it didn't work. I tried it again and this time just typed
chmod +x (with a space after the x) then dragged and dropped the saved dvd file from my Desktop into Terminal and hit enter. Worked great. Thank you. I have my DVD player back.
I also had to play around with some permissions and I had to remove the original file completely from the "A" folder, before I dropped the new file back in.
Took a little work, but I am back up and running. Thanks to all who contributed to this and yet OWC definitely needs to have all this in their manual or even provide a disk or software download that does this automatically.
Here is the trick: http://macenstein.com/default/2011/07/how-to-get-your-external-super-drive-worki ng-in-lion/
Be sure that the new file saves as a Unix file. If it doesnt save as Unix, you will need to:
    Open Terminal.
    Type:    chmod +x
…with a space at the end (and do NOT press enter yet).
Then, drag the saved file you want to change from whereever it is saved and drop it on top of the Terminal window. The file path and filename should automatically fill in (and you should ensure that there’s a space between “+x” and the file path).
    Press enter.
