The headphone jack desease has cought me too

Well after like 2 months of having my zen micro.. the headphone jack is screwing up on me... sound shuts off.. i hear only the backround of the songs.. sometimes i hear the music in mono.. i dont know what to do i cant even listen to my music any more cuz it keeps messing up when its in my pocket or just sitting...
what should i do? i bought it strait from creative.
thanks

Me and my roomate both have Zen Micros, bought around when they first came out, so they were probaly some of the first models. His jack went out after about a month, mine lasted 2. We both sent them in with little hassle and got replacements promptly. But he has had the replacement for less than a month and the jack is starting to get screwy again, leading me to believe that they have not fixed an obvious manufacturing flaw but are just sending out replacements. The warranty on my player just ran out, but you can bet your ass if the headphone jack gives out again I will not be paying for it to get fixed. I think it's ridiculous that a company with such a good reputation wouldn't take proper action against a flaw like this and issue some form of recall or extended warranty for the problem. Happy for now, even though i do have to re-transfer all my files.Message Edited by Velvetunder66 on 05-4-2005 :46 PM

  • GREAT! The headphone jack problem has hit

Well, after about one month of owning what I thought was a great player my headphone jack is crapping out!
To answer quesitons about abuse in advance, let me say this >>> From day one, i have used an L-shape extension plug. So for anyone who thought that was a solution >>> WRONG!
Regardless of what you may thing, I also baby this player. That doesn't mean it doesn't get used. I bet it gets 3-4 hours of use a day. So after about 30 days, it has had about 90 - 20 hours of use and the plug is beginning to fail.
The gap on my jack is towards the top (towards the screen). Everytime the plug gets bumped in that direction then the problem occurs. It is also that way now when I first turn on the player. I have to unplug and plug back in. I'm sure this is going to get worse quickly.
So, i guess it's RMA time. YIPPEE!
I read that they are reinforcing the plug now. Are people receiving reinforced Micro's now as part of their RMA?
Does my 90 day replacement warranty reset when I get the new player?
I am thoroughly dissatisfied, that they didn't reinforce that plug to begin with!

Out of the blue out of absolute nowhereness my zen micro's headjack thingie started cutting out the sound it was really weird my heart froze because well i had read and done so much research, it works still just the voice cuts out a few times i dunno what to do i am really sad and depressed i refused to use it all day i really wanted it to work and its just past its one month birthday by like fi've days, since i got it in the uae i dunno about whther or not they can get me a new one but i doubt it i dunno im really depressed and well just that. i am gonna wait and see and if it dies i'll just store my music in it until i can burn a million cds with all my faves, back to the ol discman.

  • What does the red dot in the headphone jack have to do with my phone not holding a charge, my phone has never been wet.

My phone has never gotten wet. My phone doesnt hold a charge for more than about 3 hrs., so I brought it in to Verizon about the battery. The lady looks into the headphone jack and says it has a red dot its not under warranty any more. What does the headphone jack have to do with my battery.

The "red dot" is a moisture sensor. If it is red, then your phone did get wet, or was exposed to excessive moisture, which voids the warranty.  Liquid/moisture inside the phone can compromise or short out the electronics, causing excessive battery drain.

  • IPOD classic has static on both the headphone jack and 30 pin connector

Static makes it hard to enjoy.  Anyone else?  Anyone have a solution?

Note: This is NOT a software, headphone, nor headphone jack problem.  My meticulously cared for iPod Classic lost audio output from both the headphone jack and sync/dock connector. I Google'd the problem and found info as to some internal defect... apparently a chip connection loosens over time stopping all audio output. Pinching the lower right corner of the iPod restores the audio temporarily.  I called Apple Support and they did recognize the problem in certain iPod models but said having gotten five years of use out of the device was really good.  Not really happy about spending another $300 on a new Classic that will last a few years... • No sound on Boot Camp (Windows 8) red light in the headphone jack ?

I have a MacBook Pro 9.2 (i7 3rd gen, HD4000, 750GB, 8GB) and i install Windows 8 Pro 64 bit. I have a issue with my headphone jack only when i use BootCamp i have the latest driver for it (download from bootcamp application OSX). I see that inside of the headphone jack there is a red light i think that it is the optical out of it. I try to reinstall the driver no succes. Now i need help to fix it

The red light means you have jammed the digital audio jack by inserting an analog plug too far. It is not a BootCamp issie--can happen to people without BootCamp. Here is the reason for the problem I posted in another thread:
Background, or "why this happens": the audio-out port on a modern Mac is digital and is held to high dimensional standards. Most headphones have an analog plug not made to such standards. The specific issue is the the "tip-to-stop shoulder" distance on many analog plugs is just a bit longer than on a digital one and jams the "mute" contact inside the port in the muted position. <deleted>'s advice to insert a plug and gently wiggle it in the horizontal plane is exactly on target unless you are under warranty, which would still necessitate a trip to an Apple store for service.
The best action is prevention. When connecting headphones (or external speakers), put on the headphones and have an audio track running BEFORE you insert the plug. Insert the plug slowly, listening for sound on both channels and, when you hear it, STOP INSERTING.
Bottom line is you do NOT want to insert any random plug "to the hilt" until you know it is dimensioned to fit a digital port.
My MacBook Pro has the same jack. I have a pair of decent-quality, name-brand headphones and their plug is not to spec. This picture shows their plug in the port at a position that delivers proper sound and does not let the plug fall out:
Note that the shoulder is about 1/16-inch from contacting the computer case. It is secure in this position.
Every plug is different. I have a pair of El Cheapo external speakers I picked up for US$2 at a yard sale and their plug fits perfectly on my Macs with a digital audio port. Go figure!

  • I have just replaced the headphone jack, volume button and mute switch ribbon in my sister's iphone

As you see I replaced the ribbon on my sister's iphone. The volume buttons and mute switch dont work while the headphone jack works perfectly. Also it cannot find any wifi networks. Anyone having the same problem? This iphone has not been restored since it was bought. Or should she update to iOS7 maybe that'll help?
    Thanks

Thanks but thats not gonna happen. Way too expensive, the company I bought the replacement off send me another one maybe its the ribbon. Im going to restore it first though.

  • Does the headphone jack wear out over time?

I've had my touch for nearly two years.  It has been working almost flawlessly until now.  When ever I shift the headphone jack at all, I loose some sound or all of it.  If the cord is totally still, I get sound okay, but this just isn't practical.  At first I thought it was just the headphones, because we all know that headphones rarely last over a year.  However, I tried plugging in my cassette adapter and the same thing happened.  Looks like it might be the jack.
Has anyone had this issue?  If so, how did you attempt to resolve it?

The physical law of entropy is stronger than God. Therefor, anything and everythign will break down given a long enough time. However, I think you may be worrying a bit too much here. Your express should generally last long enough.. until you plan to change 802.11n to another better format.
Yes, some go bad time to time, hence why limited warranty is only a year from DoP.
I suspect your issue may be due to interference. I'm curious what band are you using on those expresses.

  • Video out from the headphone jack died... 30gb 5g

    Hi all.
So, I have a 30gb 5g ipod. I have played video out of the headphone jack to a tv for years now. I have the apple version of the video out cable. So, recently, the video stopped playing. The audio plays. YES, it is set to tv out = on, NTSC. This worked fine. Now no video. Video DOES play on the ipod itself. And, I bought an expensive dock cable that has composite out and that does work for video. So, I am just wondering what happened to my video from the headphone jack. I guess I could try to get it fixed, but is it worth it? Any ideas would be appriciated! Thanks!!

OK, I was DETERMINED to figure this one out...simply because it USED to work...
Somehow (last 'update' I assume)...my 'TV out' was turned off.
On my 80GB model, it was under menu > videos > video settings > TV Out
I just turned it 'on' and I was back in business...of course it doesn't make up for last weekend, when I was out of town trying to get the darn thing to work...but at least it works now.
    Hope this helps.

  • My headphones suddenly won't fit into the headphone jack on the 1st generation ipod touch

Has anyone had the problem where the headphones would only go about 3/4-way into the jack on the ipod touch?  I tried cleaning out the jack but there's no lint or dust that I could get out with a qtip or blowing air.  Any suggestions?

Could there be a tip from another set of headphones stuck in the headphone jack?
Have you tried another pair of headphones?
    Does the plug look OK?

  • My iPhone 5 is suddenly having audio issues through the headphone jack.

So this is a strange situation, and I'll try to explain in depth so that someone might be able to suggest a solution. As reference, I have an iPhone 5 that I purchased in late-February. I've had every other model of iPhone except for the first iPhone, so I am pretty familiar with the device. I used to be on AT&T, and switched to Verizon when I upgraded to the iPhone 5.
Two days ago, I was on a six hour road-trip, and I'd been playing my music like normal through my car's auxillary cable. After stopping for lunch, I went to plug my music again, but once the music started to play, I realized that only the drums were playing at normal levels while the vocals were very, very soft. I switched through a few different songs, and realized that all the songs were being played at different levels; sometimes the backup vocals were normal levels while the instrumentation and lead vocals were quiet, or vice versa. I decided to plug my iPhone in to charge, and when I did this, the audio levels were all normal. However, the iPhone was NOT charging. I removed the charger, and the audio went back to being weak and distorted. I went back and forth at this for a bit, trying to figure out what was going on.
Since then and after some testing, I realize that my iPhone will now only charge anywhere EXCEPT in the car charger (I simply use my USB cable that came with my iPhone and plug it into the power adapter I have in the car). This morning, I tested the audio in my home speaker system, and I had the same audio issues. Only half the song's tracks would be at normal audio levels, while the other half would be at a very quiet, almost nonexistent level. I tried plugging my charger into the phone to see if that'd make a difference, but instead of the audio going back to normal like it does in the car, the music stopped and there was just crackling and very noisy distortion sounds.
I'm super confused and not sure what to do. This has never happened to me with any of my iPhones. I am updating my software right now, and am hoping that that may help somehow. Otherwise, I'm at a loss. Any suggestions as to what I should do would be greatly appreciated!

Do the new iMacs have digital audio out through the headphone jack?
    Yes.

  • My headphones are not recognized by the headphone jack.

This is an extremely chronic problem that I am getting very furstrated with and I would like it to be resolved soon.
    Problem:
My speakers work perfectly fine, the problem is when my headphones are plugged in.
What happens when I plug my headphones in:
No sound comes out of them.
The little speaker icon on the top of the screen next to the battery charge and the internet signal turns grey.
When I press the volume buttons (F11 and F12), the speaker icon comes up on the screen, but the volume does not change and there is a small circle icon with a side slash through it.
In system /preferences/sound it doesn't say headphones, but it says digital out.
I have tried to resolve the issue multiple times by calling AppleCare and going into the Genius Bar.
PLEASE SOMEONE HELP ME. I WILL BE ETERNALLY INDEBTED TO YOU.
This is what has been done:
First time: The Genius plugged his headphones into the computer and it miraculously started working, then it stopped working when I got home.
Second time: A new logic board was put in the computer, three weeks later it stopped working.
I called AppleCare yesterday, the technician had me delete two files that started with com.apple... then reset the PRAM, it worked for half an hour, then it stopped.
I called AppleCare again today, but I was  told to just plug the headphones in and out to toggle the switch in the headphone jack. It didn't do anything. Also, what is the purpose of that switch in the headphone jack?
The only time I have seen that red light being emitted was when it stopped working after the new logic board was installed. A red light was emitted from the jack when the headphones were removed for about an hour. Then it started working for 20 minutes, then it stopped, and no red light was being emitted anymore.

Try restart your iPhone before connecting. It can solve many problems.

  • Equium L40 - Lost sound in the headphone jack

    Hi, Hoping someone can help.
My current sound driver is Soundmax Integrated Digital HD Audio. And from what I remember has always been. I've downloaded it a few times from the Toshiba site for my computer and it always comes back to this driver.
The problem I have is that somewhere along the line it has lost sound in the headphone jack. I can no longer tell if i have a hardware problem or if the jack is broken. I now have Windows 7 installed but the problem was there when I had the original Vista program installed.
A few things my system tells me(Don't know if it helps)
Location 0 (Internal High Definition Audio Bus)
    C:\Windows\system32\drivers\ADIHdAud.sys
    C:\Windows\system32\drivers\drmk.sys
    C:\Windows\system32\drivers\portcls.sys
If i can't fix this because it is the jack can anyone tell me of another line for sound out I could use please? possibly USB.
    Thanks for reading.

    Hi buddy,
Can you hear sound via internal speakers?
That means the problem only is the headphone jacket?!
I think if the internal speakers work but no external speakers or headphone it seems to be a hardware issue. Have you also checked the Windows sound settings for audio output port?
In worst case you need professional help from an authorized service provider. Here you can find a list of them:

  • Petition: Make the headphone jack problem's status publ

Dear CEO of Creative Labs [I still have to find out how to contact the CEO]:
I was very excited about buying your product, the Creative Nomad Zen Micro, as an alternati've to competitors such as Apple's iPod mini and the Rio Carbon. I was impressed by the numerous features, the looks, and the size of the player, which could fit into the palm of your hand.
Unfortunately, I came across a serious problem with the player that could have serious consuquences on my (and many other people's) buying descisions. There seems to be a defect in the headphone jack of the player, causing it to pop loose and make the sound intermittently come through only one of the headphones, in a few months or even a matter of days, making the player unusable.
Countless members of the Creative community in the forums on your website have gone through three to four Micros with this problem, as well as people commenting on the player at review websites such as Cnet. There have been numerous messages sent to customer support about this problem, but it has all been attributed to user error.
If you just take a look at the Creative forum, there are so many people with this problem that it can't possibly be a rare manufacturing defect, especially considering the fact that quite a few people have gone through 2 or 3 micros already, all with the same problem. We are not asking you to immediately fix the problem, we understand that it would probably entail a large and costly effort to do so. What we do want to know is that we want a public announcement of the problem, whether Creative has confirmed it or not, and what is being done/not being done about it, and perhaps customer tips about how to avoid it. There have been rumors that the headphone jack as been supposedly reinforced by a metal plate, and others... Many potential creative customers like such as me are left in the dark about what most forum users refer to as the "dreaded" headphone jack problem. We would like to know about it, what to do to avoid it, and whether or not something is being done/has been done to new products to prevent this problem from happening. Again, contacting support has not answered our questions.
If I, (and countless other potential customers), are uncertian about this problem, we might as well give up a few features like the FM tuner and buy and iPod mini or another competing product free of such a problem. We would very much appreciate it if you would publicly release information about this problem.
Please contact me at the address shown. [Yes, this IS a snail-mail letter] We are all looking forward to a reply. For more information, please refer to the petition here:

    Sincerely,

Any suggestions/comments/corrections? (This is just a quick first draft) Please sign here for the petition. Also, you could post "testimonials" about your opinion on the headphone jack problem. I'm not expecting a reply from the CEO him/herself but I hope to get a better response than just an email to support.Message Edited by CreativeHead on 03-7-2005 02:03 PM

There are threads ongoing on similar topics. This is not a suitable topic for this forum.
I will pass on any comments from the other threads and original post in this one, but I'm closing this topic and any further petitions like this as it will just result in "Creative-bashing" and unproducti've comments.

  • Noise on the headphone jack

    Hi, there.
I've head this iBook for about a year and a half now and, apart from a couple of minor issues, it's been sort of OK. Here are the problems I've had so far:
    1. There is a small hump on the inner left edge of the display (there since I took it out of the box);
    2. The smaller ENTER key doesn't fit well because of the wiring underneath it and sometimes doesn't work;
    3. I get noise on the headphone jack that I just can't get rid of.
I'm pretty sure there's not much anyone can do about the first two (especially now that the warranty has expired), but there must be something I can do about this noise thing. I've already tried all kinds of simple things that one can do in a situation like this, but so far nothing's worked.
Essentially what I get is always the same sort of noise which reminds of the noise you get from cheap portable CD players or, if you're old enough, the noise from a tape player. Sometimes when I switch applications this noise goes away only to come back when I switch again.
I've also had a similar problem for a while that simply took care of itself, i.e. there was static (noise) on this same jack which would go away if I pressed my finger on the display open button. Funny, eh?
Now, if anyone has had this problem or you know how to fix it, I'd be grateful if you'd enlighten me.
    Thanks.

  • My ipod video wont play sound through the headphone jack or the bottom connector

Hello everyone. I have an iPod Video 60GB (supports video output through the headphone jack). Which I believe was the last one before the iPod "classic".
Anyways awhile back it stopped outputting sound through the headphone jack, I assumed I had damaged the jack itself as commonly happens but it stopped outputting sound through the dock connector to my ipod speaker dock and my cars ipod connector. The clicker wont make any noise either.
When I tried to search for an answer to this problem years ago I couldnt find anything and knowing it would be out of warrenty I put it aside and forgot about it. Having searched again recently it seems as if this could be the audio processor or some component on the board coming loose? Has anyone outlined this problem with pictures and steps to repair it?
I *may* take it in and pay the $30 but I would much prefer to fix it myself. Thank you for any help with this.
