    Hi Bones777,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If you do not hear sound from your iPhone speakers, try these steps next:
iPhone: No sound or distorted sound from speaker
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts5180
If an audio issue occurs when using a specific application, try testing other applications to see if the issue persists.
If the iPhone is paired with a Bluetooth headset or car kit:
    Try turning off Bluetooth.
If you experience difficulties with the Bluetooth feature, follow these troubleshooting steps.
    Restart the iPhone.
If restarting doesn't fix the issue, ensure that your iPhone is updated to the latest version of iOS.
If you still do not hear sound after completing the troubleshooting above, I recommend backing up your iPhone data and restoring the iOS software:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
Use iTunes to restore your iOS device to factory settings

  • Did the headphone jack location shift on the 4s?

I just bought an Otterbox Defender case for my new iPhone 4s (Verizon model).  The case fits well except that the hole for the headphones is a few mm to the right of the jack.  Did the location of the headphone jack shift from the 4 to the 4s?

No, I think it is in the same area, but the mute switch has moved a few mm down.

  • Is there any way to keep the music playing through the headphones connected through the headphone jack, while also playing the music through a bluetooth device, such as speakers - so the audio is coming out of both devices simultaneously?

When I connect my bluetooth speakers, the sound stops coming out of the headphones (connected via the hardwire jack), and then comes back when I turn off the bluetooth speakers. I would like to have audio coming out of both...
    Anyone?

Thanks Kiwi. It doesn't make sense to me though, as that would seem to be only a simple change in the operating system, not a hardware 'necessity'.

  • If Apple EarPods just randomly decided to break into 2 pieces and get stuck in the headphone jack, will Apple replace or repair the iPad for free?

After I was done listening to some music, I of course puller out the EarPods from the headphone jack. But then I noticed how the tip broke into 2, so half of the tip is stuck in the headphone jack. Since they were Apple EarPods, and I didn't inflict any damage to them, would I receive a free repair or replacement on my iPad?

Are you still under warranty? You're going to have a tough time convincing them it wasn't your fault they broke, I predict. In any case, someone else had a good idea on one of these types of threads: take it to an electronics shop as they probably deal with this situation quite frequently.

  • I dropped my phone in water and the headphone jack wont work anymore. Any way to fix that? and sometimes the sound will just stop working and i have to put in the head phones any way to stop that?

  • Is there a way to disable the headphone jack?

A few months ago my macbook pro 2012 (non retina) fell and the headphone jack was destroyed in the process, and the sound on my internal speakers no longer work. The apple genius said that the only way to get my headphones and speakers working again would be to replace the logic board. What I'm wondering is if there's a command to type into the terminal that would just bypass the headphone jack entirely so that I could at least get sound through my speakers. Like I said, there's no hope of saving my headphone jack so I don't need advice about how to re-enable it. I'm hoping for a command for terminal to disable the headphone jack so that I can hear sound through my internal speakers. Help?

Well you have to take a break, sleep, etc sometime!  The repair may take just a few minutes.
Your other option would be search on the Fixit website and YouTube's "how to tutorials."

  • My iPhone 5 is suddenly having audio issues through the headphone jack.

So this is a strange situation, and I'll try to explain in depth so that someone might be able to suggest a solution. As reference, I have an iPhone 5 that I purchased in late-February. I've had every other model of iPhone except for the first iPhone, so I am pretty familiar with the device. I used to be on AT&T, and switched to Verizon when I upgraded to the iPhone 5.
Two days ago, I was on a six hour road-trip, and I'd been playing my music like normal through my car's auxillary cable. After stopping for lunch, I went to plug my music again, but once the music started to play, I realized that only the drums were playing at normal levels while the vocals were very, very soft. I switched through a few different songs, and realized that all the songs were being played at different levels; sometimes the backup vocals were normal levels while the instrumentation and lead vocals were quiet, or vice versa. I decided to plug my iPhone in to charge, and when I did this, the audio levels were all normal. However, the iPhone was NOT charging. I removed the charger, and the audio went back to being weak and distorted. I went back and forth at this for a bit, trying to figure out what was going on.
Since then and after some testing, I realize that my iPhone will now only charge anywhere EXCEPT in the car charger (I simply use my USB cable that came with my iPhone and plug it into the power adapter I have in the car). This morning, I tested the audio in my home speaker system, and I had the same audio issues. Only half the song's tracks would be at normal audio levels, while the other half would be at a very quiet, almost nonexistent level. I tried plugging my charger into the phone to see if that'd make a difference, but instead of the audio going back to normal like it does in the car, the music stopped and there was just crackling and very noisy distortion sounds.
I'm super confused and not sure what to do. This has never happened to me with any of my iPhones. I am updating my software right now, and am hoping that that may help somehow. Otherwise, I'm at a loss. Any suggestions as to what I should do would be greatly appreciated!

Do the new iMacs have digital audio out through the headphone jack?
    Yes.

  • The headphone jack.

I'm beginning to lose my mind over this. Maybe someone can shine some light on what I can do here.
I bought my MacBook Pro on Sunday, the 25th. I enjoyed it greatly. I love everything about the MBP.
But no more than 12 hours into it's life, I plugged my iPhone's earbuds into the headphone jack while riding on the BART train. The audio sounded VERY distorted, so I pulled them out, and discovered the volume controls are disabled. One trip to System Preferences later, I find that the MBP is stuck trying to output to S/PDIF. This is verified by the red light coming out of the headphone jack.
I called up AppleCare, and they have me perform some procedures. They have me zap the PRAM, restart the computer...nothing works. So they gave me a case number and sent me to Apple Store Walnut Creek to get a replacement MBP. So on the 27th, I did just that.
No more than 15 minutes after I arrive, I'm walking back out with a new MacBook Pro in the box. Got home, unboxed it, and speakers worked. I was a happy camper.
    Until today, the 28th.
I decided to listen to some music while I was on break at work. Feeling skittish about plugging my iPhone's earbuds in again, I instead opted for some noise canceling headphones.
Lo and behold, the exact minute I unplugged them, the internal speakers went dead again. The MBP now (again) only outputs to S/PDIF or headphones. Internal speakers no longer work at all.
This is my second MBP from Apple as they replaced my last one for the same exact problem.
What should I do? I'm pulling my hair out in frustration.

It does sound like a hardware issue. You can go to any Apple Store for service. I know it's a pain, but you should do this soon - within the first 14 days after purchase, they replace defective products with new ones. After 14 days, they repair your product, meaning that in some cases it's sent out and takes 1-2 weeks.
Regardless, they will not swap out your HDD, no matter what. Instead, you might consider getting an external hard drive and cloning your internal onto that; Time Machine will only back up your Mac OS, but cloning the drive (e.g. with Carbon Copy Cloner) will do the whole drive, and allow you to clone back to your new machine. Yes, it's an additional expense (and I was a student for many years!) - but, hard drives fail too - usually at the most inopportune times (for example, just before you print your dissertation) and if you have no backup...well, you get the idea.
    Good luck!

  • Why does my volume control on my iPod touch only work when i have Earbuds or Headphones or a speaker connected to the headphone jack, and not also when there is nothing in the jack?

I can't adjust the volume of the iPod Touch when it has nothing plugged into the headphones jack, but i can adjust it when i have earbuds or headphones or a speaker ;plugged into the iPod Touch

Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Insert/remove the the headphone plug a dozen times or so.
Try the following to rule out a software problem.:
    - Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since you likely have a hardware problem. Could be a bad headphone jack.

  • I accidently got something in the headphone jack, does anyone have any suggestions?

Me and my friends were prank calling with my iPod touch, when her mom was coming down the stairs. We were WAY up past the time we were so post to go to bed, so I quickly ended the call, grabbed my headphones, and shoved the headphones into the headphone jack and jumped on the couch. After her mom went back upstairs we immediately went back to prank calling. But when I pulled the headphones out I broke the part that goes into the headphone jack, and now it's stuck in the headphone jack. Yeah typical stupid, 13 year old thing.

  • Where can I send my phone to get the headphone jack repaired?

Yesterday, I accidentally got the tip of my headphones stuck inside the headphone jack of my iPhone 5s. I know that other people have had this problem and looked up various tutorials on how to get it out. I used superglue for all of them and now I am afraid I may have superglued the headphone jack in place. This needs to repaired because my phone is stuck on headphone mode so I can't hear music, alarms, calls, texts, etc. when they come in.
Where can I send my phone to be repaired? Should I do it by mail or take it to the Genius bar at apple? Also, what kind of insurance could cover it, and how much does it cost? Thanks

You can visit an Apple Store next to your place, but you might think about making an appointment before you visit to avoid long waiting times in front of the Genuis Bar.
You can also arrange the service by contacting Apple Support:

  • HT201205 How can I connect to a bluetooth devise and use the head phones at the same time? I have a new  ipod Touch  (32GB)'and want to play through a stereo system using the headphone jack and connect to a blue tooth speaker in another room

    How can I

Not possible, there is a physical switch inside the headphone port, when the headphone jack is plugged in the switch is open and disables the iPod speaker and Bluetooth networks. Cheers.

  • My sound is coming from my built in speakers instead of through the headphone jack.

I have an Envy 15 1270ca and last night it froze while I was listening to music, forcing me to manually shut it off by holding down the power button. When the computer came back on, my sound was coming out of my built-in speakers instead of my external speakers through the headphone jack. I checked the speakers through my mp3 player, so I know that they are working, so it seems to be the jack which is not working.
    Any help is appreciated!
