The "Help" in all my applications is not working.
Every time I use Help, in any application, I get a window with a message saying the topic is unavailable, suggesting I confirm I am connected to the internet, which I am. I called Apple support yesterday. They had me reinstall my OS (10.8.2) I'm new to mac, have only had the computer one week. Any suggestions?
Yes, I'm still having the problem. No, I haven't installed the suplemental update. when I looked at it, it appears it addresses different issues...I have an appt at an apple store tomorrow so I'm just waiting to see if they can figure it out. I saw another post about the same problem...I'm not sure how to link here to that post...but apple blamed her ip, her ip said it's an apple problem...???

Help! My Mouse pad is not working properly. The arrow cannot be controlled, it just keeps jumping all over the page. How can I stop this?
There are several possible causes for this issue. Please take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried until it's resolved. Some may not apply in your case.
1. Follow the instructions in this support article, and also this one, if applicable. A damaged or defective AC adapter could be the cause, even if it's the right kind.
2. Press down all four corners of the trackpad at once and release. If there's any effect, it's likely to be temporary, and in that case the unit must be serviced or replaced.
3. Open the Bluetooth preference pane in System Preferences and delete all pointing devices other than the trackpad, if applicable. Disconnect any USB pointing devices. By a "pointing device," I mean a peripheral that moves the cursor, such as a trackpad, mouse, trackball, or graphics tablet. A plain keyboard is not a pointing device.
4. Start up in safe mode and test, preferably without launching any third-party applications. If you don't have the problem in safe mode, but it comes back when you restart as usual, stop here and post your results. Do the same if you can't start in safe mode. If there was no difference in safe mode, go on to the next step.
5. Reset the System Management Controller.
6. If you're using a Bluetooth trackpad, investigate potential sources of interference, including USB 3 devices.
7. A swollen battery in a portable computer can impinge on the trackpad from below and cause erratic behavior. If you have trouble clicking the trackpad, this is likely the reason. The battery must be replaced without delay.
8. There's a report that a (possibly defective) Thunderbolt Ethernet adapter can cause the built-in trackpad of a MacBook to behave erratically. If you're using such an adapter, disconnect it and test.
9. There's also a report of erratic cursor movements caused by an external display that was connected but not turned on.
10. If none of the above applies, or if you have another reason to think that your computer is being remotely controlled, remove it from the network by turning off Wi-Fi (or your Wi-Fi access point), disconnecting from a Bluetooth network link, and unplugging the Ethernet cable or USB modem, whichever is applicable. If the cursor movements stop at once, you should suspect an intrusion.
11. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine and/or external trackpad tested. -
I am trying to open my iTunes on a Windows XP laptop and get the error message 42404 "iTunes application could not be opened. Please repair or reinstall QuickTime". I did that and it did not help. Any ideas?

Help! My MacBook is all of a sudden not working past the login page. A white screen comes up that I cannot get rid of. I attempted a safe start up and that failed as well. It's a white screen where I have a mouse and when I click the volume buttons I can hear it working but nothing else just white. Please help.
Something you can try is resetting it all Settings > General > Reset > Reset all settings. Or go to Settings > Store & sign out & log back in. Another thing you can do is restore your ipod. This has happened to me but the only thing i did was that i created a new account but try doing the things above i just told you. :)

I cannot open itunes. Everytime i try it says "The itunes application could not be opened.The folder cannot be found." I have tried the shift key option but this does not work. Please help.!!

My camera works with the photobooth and with skype but does not work with other applications like the "lolcam" from facebook or the " faceonthe hole" application. Can anyone help?
There was a issue with school computers being used to spy on kids in their bedrooms, Mac's were involved.
So Apple most likely tightened the API's to only select, trustworthy companies as not to abuse the web cam access priviledge.
If you want to use a web cam with these other programs and services, you'll likely have to buy a third party USB one, so you can manually disconnect it.
There isn't a way to physcially disconnect the built in web cam on Mac's without busting open the machine. -
I bought the Keynote app for my MacBook, but when I open the application and try to install it, I get an error message saying that the application will not work with my MacBook. What gives? And, can I please request a refund? ($19.99 = a week's groceries).

shutdown the Mac and restart. After the start up chime, hold down the shift key until the apple logo appears
let the Mac complete the start up procedure completely, it will take longer than usual as the hard drive is being repaired

I have been coding in Flash Builder Burrito and publishing to my Xoom for a few weeks. All of a sudden at the end of the day I'm getting this compiler error which says:
1017: The definition of base class Application was not found. AppName.mxml /AppName/src Unknown Flex Problem
I sometimes hit the wrong key with I try to copy and paste and all of a sudden a new window will open for source of a default component which I never wanted to edit. I'm afraid I somehow deleted or modified the default class defnition of Application?
I don't understand why this would come out of the blue, I was working on a function within a class that was drawing points ... Then all off a sudden I'm getting this error and it's driving me nuts.
I tried to reinstall FB Burrito on my Mac, but after all that work it still says the same thing. Wouldn't it replace the default class defs?

OK, so here is what I'm going through. I reinstall, import the project and compiles.
Then I uncomment the new section which contains the following code:

I get 3 diffrent errors, which lead up to the error listed in the topic.
At first it says that "int" isn't a valid type and it points to this line:
var line_commands:Vector.<int> = new Vector.<int>();
Then I take int out so the line looks like this:
var line_commands:Vector = new Vector();
Then it says I can't nest classes and it points to the main MXML. I go to the main MXML then the error switches to say "The definition of base class Application was not found.".
I did figure out how to fix this with out reinstalling. I have to delete the project from my list (making sure to comment out the code above), then re-launch FB Burrito, then re-import the project and it works.
This is way nuts! I dont understand ... am I crazy? -
Basically any iDevice I plug into my PC lowers the volume of all active applications to about 10% no matter its previous level. I've tested this with several iDevices and they all act in the same manner. I've reinstalled iTunes and tested this out on a fresh install of Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit.
I actually figured out the fix for this. The issue was how Windows interacts when a communication device is plugged in. If you follow the path Control Panel -> Sound and click on the communications tab (in Windows 7) you can change event "When Windows detects communcations activity: " to not lower any of the sound. I hope this helps! It plagued me for a good few months before I realized it.

Hello, the 'Save As' dialog box used to allow the backspace button to go up one level in the directory when the focus is in the folder contents box but it does not work any more, please help. BTW the same 'Save As' dialog in other applications still allow the backspace button to go up one level in the directory.

I kept forgetting and procrastinating about following your instructions, since I have internet access only for limited amounts of time and usually I am busy with important tasks when I am.
Out of the blue, the problem corrected itself (the Save As box started to open full screen, then shrunk down to a normal size and the edges can now be dragged to a custom size).
Even the copy and paste problem in the filenaming area seems to have been less troublesome lately even though there have been no updates to Firefox in a few weeks.
Even though I marked the solution as not helpful, the problem has in fact been resolved. I will save the solution instructions in case the issue returns. -

I have taken it back to the Apple store genius bar, but they say they don't see anything wrong. Well unless you use it all day and experience the problems when they happen, you wont see anything wrong. But there are lots wrong with it. But this would be the same store as I purchased the phone. And they backed up my old Iphone 4, but were not able to get anything to load back onto my new phone. So, I lost pretty much everything. But over time, some of my contacts have started showing up, although i am still missing over 800 of them.

Hey Peter, I think your missing the big picture. Your iPod is past repair, corrosion, is a real issue with water damage, but your problem took a turn for the worst when you attempted to use a microwave to dry it out. I see you found another post from July 2012, where someone else tried to nuke there iPod, and got the same results you have-- a dead iPod. The blue sparks, burnt smell and still not working all confirms one thing... Your iPod is not repairable. What the water didn't damage the microwave did. By attempting to microwave, you for all intensive purposes hit your iPod with an EMP, (Electro-Magnetic Pulse), in the first split second you overloaded the workings of your iPod and burned it up! There is is no way of known which circuits and components have been damaged and to what extend. You may be able to get a refurbished iPod, but it is unclear that Apple will allow it, because of the type of damage, it's not like this was an accident, you deliberately put it in the microwave in a misguided attempt to dry it out. when the microwave turned on it hit ever chip, diode, capacitor etc. with more power than it was designed to handle, in short; you baked it, burned it up, fried it, call it what you want, but it's not going to work! To attempt to repair is a meaningless gesture, (and probably will cost more than it's worth), chalk this one up as bad ideas 101-- learn from it, move on, and get yourself a new iPod. When I unpacked the computer, the hard drive did not include OS X either. Actually, it was completely blank. Did not even have a partition table! I have also had random problems with the machine not charging.
I have replaced the drive myself with an SSD after figuring the Apple Certified technicians were incompetent. Now even the SSD is starting to fail
I have bought an HP laptop and setup Ubuntu on it. Hope it turns out better than my previous four various Mac models. All have had various repeating hardware issues that Apple Certified technicians have been unable or unwilling to correct.
