The home button is not working on my iphone 5 - is there a way to troubleshoot that issue?

the home button is not working on my iphone 5, its does click and acts normal but doe not do what it is supposed to do

You have identified the problem. If you have Warranty or AppleCare coverage, make Genius reservation and take or send to Apple for resolution. Troubleshoot. When iPhone 5 is open, the home button contacts are present right there. With volt meter placed on home flex you can see if pressing home button completes the circuit. You can bridge the dock home button contacts and see if it actually causes response in the iPhone. If not dock or its contacts are faulty or logic board is faulty.

The home button is not working on my iPhone 4?  How do I fix this problem?

Make a Genius Bar appointment at your nearest Apple Store and do an out of warranty replacement for $149 USD, or use a third party repair site such as http://www.iresq.com, or replace it yourself, http://www.ifixit.com.

  • The home button is not working on my iPhone 4

My home button has not been working for ages. It works about once every 10 clicks. It feels like it has something stuck under it. Please help! It is really annoying.

Method 1: Calibrate (and possibly restore)
If you're lucky, your slow-to-respond home button is due to a software glitch. To find out, you'll need to calibrate your home button. Here's how:
Open up a stock app, like the Clock. Hold down the sleep button until "Slide to power off" appears. When it does, let go of the sleep button and hold down the home button. After about 5-10 seconds, the app will close.
If this solved your problem, you are one lucky iPhone owner. If it didn't you may want to try restoring your iPhone before continuing to the second method.
Method 2: Realign the docking port
There is a chance that through normal wear and tear, your phone's docking port got misaligned, moving the home button along with it. Although a repair shop might suggest you replace the home button, this YouTuber offered a different solution.
Plug a USB cable into your iPhone. Then, gently push down on the 30-pin connector, so that it pushes up behind the home button. While you apply the pressure, click the home button. Remove the cable, and see if that fixed the problem.
Method 3: Clean the home button
A splash of soda, sticky hands, dirt in the bottom of your purse or pocket -- any of these things can damage your iPhone's home button.
For this fix, you'll need 98-99 percent isopropyl alcohol, which can be found at hardware stores. Using a cotton swab, eye dropper, or tissue, apply 2-3 drops of the isopropyl alcohol directly to the home button, avoiding the screen. Then, with a narrow, dull object (like the eraser on the back of a pencil), repeatedly tap the home button so that the alcohol seeps into the frame.
Wipe clean, and wait about 10-15 minutes before checking to see if that did the trick.
Method 4: Enable the on-screen home button
If the previous three methods did not work, it sounds like perhaps you have a completely defunct home button. In this case, your home button's connectors may have been misaligned and would require professional repair. (Or, if you're willing to brave it, iFixit shows you how to DIY.)
The good news is, you can still use your phone using its on-screen home button. Normally, this is used as an accessibility option, but it's also a common solution for those with non-functioning home buttons.
To enable the on-screen home button, go to Settings > General > Accessibility > Assistive Touch. Turn Assistive Touch on, and you'll see a small circle appear on screen.
Tapping that circle gives you four options: Home, Siri, More (for things like multitasking and playback controls), and Favorites. In your case, ignore Favorites, but tap this on-screen button whenever you need to access your home screen, activate Siri, or get all the options you'd normally see when you double-tap the home button.
If the on-screen home button ever gets in the way, simply tap and hold to drag it anywhere else along the frame of your screen.
It's hardly an ideal solution, but it'll hold you over until you're ready to purchase a new phone or get your current one fixed.

my ipod has just black screen and the home button is not working. what will i do? help please!

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
When it says place the iPodin recovery mode use this prgram.
RecBoot: Easy Way to Put iPhone into Recovery Mode
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • My iPod Touch 4th Generation is crashing a lot. And the home button is not working.

Recently my iPod would crash when I go on Youtube or any other app or it would be super slow. My current IOS is 6.1.3. The iPod starts working again when I turn it off and on but only for a couple of minutes. Also the home button does not work when I press it.

To reset the iPod without the hardware buttons,
    - Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings. All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected. You will have to rejoin wifi networks and repair BT devices

    - Restore from backup. See:

    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • The home button has stopped working on my iphone 5c. Did the same a few months ago and recovered 24hrs later. Can anyone explain this problem. Phone still in warranty. Had steam issue recently but this was after last home button episode.

Have an iphone 5c 8g. The home button has stopped working. Did the same a few months ago and recovered 24hrs later. Can anyone explain this problem. Phone still in warranty. Had steam issue recently but this was after last home button episode and no evidence of damage.

If you are playing in hockey arenas a lot or if you are bringing it into bathroom same time as shower it may not seem like much but overtime the steam can acquire and build up in the phones usb dock flex cable swell as the home button flex cable. Bring again into apple store and should be covered under warranty again. could also be a delay in a 8gb 5c software may just be very lag.

  • I got my phone repaired by apple a few weeks ago and got a new glass display put in and the entire screen is falling out of the housing and the home button is not working I'm more than disappointed with this service

I paid for this service to fix my glass on my phone and now the entire LCD display is not working and after my repair the home button stopped working and I went back and they told me it was like that before the repair which it wasn't and they are telling me I need to pay 300 plus for a replacement phone that's refurbished now I don't understand apples support is suppose to be the best in the business and I have been more then ripped of the service I got damaged my phone more than it was before I would like to know where I can go to talk to someone who will help me not tell me it's my fault this is outrageous!!!

Take the issue up with whomever replaced the device, whether that is Apple or another company.

  • What do I do with my iPod Touch 4g when the home button does not work and when I plug it in to charge it always says that charging is not avaible with this accesory?

iPod Touch 4g home button won't work plus will not charge properly

Take it to a reputable third-party repair shop. Apple will not touch it after you have opened it up and tinkered with the works.

  • When I plug in my ipod, I get a message that access is blocked by my password on the ipod.  However I can't get to my ipod to change it.  Any suggestions?  The "home" button does not work

I've been told that I need to sync my new computer with my apple ipod.  HELP!!

If you do not know the passcode to your iPod Touch, you'll need to connect the iPod to the iTunes library you normally sync it with and restore it in recovery mode. However, since your home button doesn't work, you'll need to use a program such as this one to try and get it into recovery mode.

  • The home button is not working, does anyone know how to fix it?

how can I make the home button work?

I do not know with a iP4. But with iPhone 3G and 3GS, the Home Button circuitry that is used for a typical press to return to Home Screen is different than used to Reset, Enter Recovery, or DFU. So a Reset could still help. Anyway along the lines of your thinking, it would still be better to Restart the iPhone, here you would just be using the Power button. The Restart could even get the Home button to respond again. So the best advice maybe for any iPhone problem would be as often stated on this Forum.....
Restart, Reset, Restore and then last resort before throwing iPhone in trash, DFU Restore.
