The home button on my iphone 5 is not working, so I'm using assistive touch. How do I close open apps without double tapping the home button?
The other possible things you can try would include...
Inserting the lightning connector and applying a little bit of pressure up under the Home button.
Some folks have cleaned the Home button with a few drops of isopropic alochol caring to not get it on your screen. This is only going to get things working again if it has been gummed up through normal use
If you are still within the one-year warranty or extended it with Apple Care don't try any of these steps just take it to Apple.

No, they will give you a refurbished (but basically a brand-new) iPod touch in the same color. I have the Silver as well...sort of kicking myself for not waiting for the Blue one to come back in stock.

The Home Button on my iPhone 3GS is working off and on.
Sometimes when I press the Home Button it works immediately.
Other times it does not work at all,or I have to press it three or four times,and quite hard,to get to the next screen.
It is an intermittent problem but is not happening more often.

From awhile the home button doesn't work properly. I have already upgraded the system to 4.3.3, and It doesnt get fixed. Suddenly you have to press 10 times to make it works. Some times it work fine but some times it doesn't. Can someone help me?
Sounds like it might be a hardware problem. I'd take it back to Apple store, or place of purchase to check.

Try this calibration procedure:

If the basics from the User Guide have all been tried (restart, reset, restore from backup, restore as new) and you still have problems, then you've done all the troubleshooting you can do. You'll need to bring your phone into Apple or an authorized service provider in your area.

The home button on my iphone 4 has raised up on one side.
The home button on my iphone 4 (which is only 4 months old) has raised up on one side, not by lots but it is no longer flush with the case and if you run a finger or nail across it you can feel the edge of it. Is this enough to send it back into apple for fixing? (i am concerned that it could move more epecially once the waranty period is up) it still functions perfectly but when i feel the buttons on my friends iphone 4 phones they are perfectly flush, its just that you expect the phones to be perfect and I feel it should be repaired. Im not after a new phone but just for the button to be reset into the case.

Yes, I understand that. But The screen issue is not a result of user damage. The phone was not dropped when the screen got cracked. My daughter was standing in a chair at the table and dropped one of her toys onto the bottom of the phone and cracked it right by the home button. (Nowhere near the LCD/digitizer flex cables, connections, or logic board components) then a few months later my phone had died, I plugged it in, it showed it was charging, then Apple logo disappeared and screen didn't work. AFTER contacting Apple about the issue and them telling me that it "is a result of the very minimal crack to the sheet of glass that has no relation to the LCD or Digitizer and that the warranty does not cover it I had taken it upon myself to change the LCD/digitizer to no avail, as well as backlight ic and backlight coil to no avail. But how do I go about letting Apple know that it is in fact NOT due to the cracked screen nor is it due to the flex cable connections? I can't. So the lady that works the call center phones trying to "convince" me that she knows what she is talking about and "convince" me that it is from the cracked screen I have to take her word because I can't show Apple that its not because of that without paying them $199 to fix the screen in which case they will just send me a new phone rather than fix the faulty hardware under warranty.

Why does double-tapping home button on my iphone 5 not show app bar?

From previous experience in this issue i have found that people are not tapping the home button fast enough twice to be able to pull up the app bar at the bottom.
While on your home screen try to double click the home button twice pretty quickly. If that dont work try to reset your device with the home and power buttons held in at the same time for about 8 seconds and then when the apple logo comes on the screen release the buttons. When the phone is turned back on then try to double click the home button again an see if that has resolved the issue for you!
