The i--- programs dont work
So last night I needed to install X11 cause the iMac didn't come with it installed and you cant download it. Or so I read.
So I pop in the iMac disc 1 and go to install it. If I had to option I would have unselected EVERYTHING but X11. I couldnt, I HAD to install the system again...but could do so without erasing the HD.
So I did that. Everything seems to work fine, but now iPhoto, iMovie, iDVD and a few others don't work. I did download the updates and restart the computer. iTunes didn't work, then I tried it from he apps folder rather than the dock and it worked there. The alias was bad. The others wouldn't work this way though.
I expect it is just the software updates that are needed. I cant start the programs so how do I get updates for them?

I cannot get any of the zoom functions to work, period. When Firefox starts up it begins to display the page then it stops and redisplays it. So its like it flashes on for a second then completely regoes to the site, any site. The text zooms dont work even when i try to change the font on the content tab, nothing. had updated the browser and installed some plug ins like persona two days back and since FF has been acting funny.
Problem with java scripts on multiple sites and also with the menu bar. The links just dont work, they work fine with IE- which i dont paritcularly like! when I click on one of the menu bar items like tools, sometimes all that comes is an empty 3 d drop down box!
Should i reinstall FF?
Tried pop ups and also disabled the themes and an ad blocker I had downloaded.Have the same problem, Firefox won't even run YouTube

If the letters æ ø å are used in the titleline in the blog funktion, the link will not work.

hello, since i got my computer, i've been using iTunes.
i was happy, media keys working perfectly and all, but 1 month ago, i had to install WMP to run a diferent format that itunes dont support and after that day, my media keys stop working for itunes, first i think it war my keyboard(microsoft laser 5000) and a software conflict.
but now i buy a razer blackwidow ultimate(yesterday) and still dont working...
i spend all my weekend trying to figure out whats the problem, but i dont know.
i tried tutorials for similar problems, but noting worked...
and now the media keys arent working even on WMP

Adobe programs dont work with Captivate to capture/record
Hi there.
I've had problems with Captivate capturing screen recording from Adobe Premier cs5, where it would not show any of the video which was being edited. I figured this was just the video issue and worked around it by just not showing the video preview for the small thing i was demonstrating, it wasnt a big deal if it was just isolated to this.
Next I was using Adobe Photoshop and setting up a little demo on how to fill objects. Captivate did not pick up the cursor, it shows a ugly black box.
I also want it to pick up the full motion of my mouse cursor in photoshop, but it doesnt come close, so as im narrating how to do something, my actual mouse is not showing at the same time as im saying it which is essential when you are trying to show a way to FILL a certain area of a shape.
I had plans to do many things with captivate, now it seems i am going to have to switch back and forth with Camtasia, convert to AVI the parts that Captivate does not handle, and then import them into Captivate to make my demonstrations look seemless???
I have a lot planned for Adove CS5 Flash, is this also going to give me the same problem?
I have already searched for a solution tot his, and everyone has said that captivate does not capture things where there is overlayed content etc etc...
This strikes me slightly insane when Camtasia does it so well, and Im using an Adobe program to provide training on Adobe programs...
If anyone knows any delevopers for captivate on here, can they PLEASE look at this right now as im slapping myself wondering why this is the case and how im going to plan to do all the simulations half with camtasia and half with captivate on Adobe products we use at my work.....

Ben.Just out of curiosity, are you able to modify the mouse cursor AFTER doing the captures once you're back in Captivate editing them?
For example, are you able to select the mouse for the slides where it added this wierd square cursor, then choose the normal arrow cursor from the Properties tabl > Options accordion?
Or are you able to delete the mouse from these same slides, and add it back again, and then select the cursor you want?
Have you found that there is nothing you can do to change this particular cursor on these slides? -

Volume and the volume buttons dont work unless headphones plugged in. Why?

finally i found solution ... it was finger print device and i dont know what is the relation between finger print and sound problem any way the solution is installing the latest fingerprint definition and i found sound working properly !!

Do they songs show in the Purchased link under Quicklinks on the right-hand side of the iTunes store homepage on your computer's iTunes ? If they do, but they don't have the cloud symbol against them for redownloading, then do you still have them listed in the Music part of your library (where you would click on them to play them) ? If you do then try deleting them from there and they should then get the cloud symbol against them in Purchased for redownloading.
If you are in a country where music can't be redownloaded,or if you've changed countries since buying them or they are no longer in your country's store (content providers occasionally remove their content), then you will need to copy them back from your backup of your downloads/library. -
Re I-MOVIE. I am getting a "Communication Error" when I try and send a clip to the IMovie

Have no idea - But if it is a new problem with exactly the same kind of material that was previously used. Then my trouble shooting guide might help.
If You
• used a new Camera - file codec might be a sort that don't work
• Your main hard disk might get too filled up
Else try
Trouble
When iMovie doesn't work as intended this can be due to a lot of reasons
• iMovie Pref files got corrupted - trash it/they and iMovie makes new and error free one's
• Creating a new User-Account and log into this - forces iMovie to create all pref. files new and error free
• Event or Project got corrupted - try to make a copy and repair
• a codec is used that doesn't work
• problem in iMovie Cache folder - trash Cache.mov and Cache.plist
• version miss match of QuickTime Player / iMovie / iDVD
• preferences are wrong - Repair Preferences
• other hard disk problem - Repair Hard Disk (Disk Util tool - but start Mac from ext HD or DVD)
• External hard disks - MUST BE - Mac OS Extended (hfs) formatted to work with Video
( UNIX/DOS/FAT32/Mac OS Exchange - works for most other things - but not for Video )
• USB-flash-memories do not work
• Net-work connected hard disks - do not work
• iPhoto Library got problems - let iPhoto select another one or repair it. Re-build this first then try to re-start iMovie.
This You do by
_ close iPhoto
_ on start up of iPhoto - Keep {cmd and alt-keys down}
_ now select all five options presented
_ WAIT a long long time
• free space on Start-Up (Mac OS) hard disk to low (<1Gb) - I never go under 25Gb free space for SD-Video (4-5 times more for HD)
• external devices interferes - turn off Mac - disconnect all of them and - Start up again and re-try
• GarageBand fix - start GB - play a few notes - Close it again and now try iMovie
• Screen must be set to million-colors
• Third-party plug-ins doesn't work OK
• Run "Cache Out X", clear out all caches and restarts the Mac
• Let Your Mac be turned on during one night. At about midnight there is a set of maintenance programs that runs and tidying up. This might help
• Turn off Your Mac - and disconnect Mains - for about 20-30 minutes - at least this resets the FireWire port.
• In QuickTime - DivX, 3ivx codec, Flip4Mac, Perian etc - might be problematic - temporarily move them out and re-try
(I deleted the file "3ivxVideoCodec.component" located in Mac HD/Library/Quicktime and this resolved my issue.)

Some of the function keys dont work

The error message BIOHD-2 normally indicates that the hard drive has failed. Here is a guide to help you run the SMART test for the drive from the BIOS. If you get a similar error message, you should replace the hard drive. Also, here is a guide to help you with Recovery of the system after the drive has been replaced.

With IE and my company program access, I used the compatibility button so it would work. I can't find a solution with Firefox to utilize my company program. I tried Shift Control R and Shift reload. But to no avail. I really need to use my company program to access account info and I am not wanting to resort back to using IE as my internet browser. Please help.
As you have discovered, Firefox does not have a feature similar to IE's compatibility mode where non-standards-compliant pages designed for older versions of IE can run in newer versions of IE.
The solution really depends on what is wrong with those pages. Does your IT support Firefox and/or are they willing to make fixes?
Note that you can use different browsers for different sites. If you need IE for internal sites, that doesn't mean you can't use Firefox for your regular browsing. You wouldn't be the only person in this thread doing that. ;-) -
None of the HP programs is working
So only my Beats audio is working. My fingerprint, HP help assistant, Coolsense arent working. HP simplepass just crashes when trying to use fingerprint, coolsense wont open, and HP help assistant just says it found an error and needs to restart once i do that it just say"not responding". So it seems that your system is not recognizing your hardware, and some programs are not working. I am happy to help with this.
Please post the full product number for your notebook. See the following, if you need help with that information.
How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?
Presumably, all of those applications were working before. HAve you checked your system for viruses, or malware?
Had you installed any new software or drivers, just prior to the problem occuring for the first time?
If was working until recently then ou could try a system restore to a point before the problem began, but i would still check your system for malware/viruses/etc.

Itunes has onced worked on my computer with previous settings. I was asked by Itunes to make a necessary update, which I did. Now Itunes will not work on my computer.

Please see the bold. If you're out of icloud storage, then you won't be able to backup to icloud unless you purchase more storage, but yet you said you backup to icloud.
If you really did backup to icloud no data would be loss - sounds to me that it didn't backup since you had no more free icloud storage space.

I am so upset because i didn't research enough before upgrading to Lion. I can't use a lot of my pograms i used all the time now. I want to go back to where i was before Lion. Is there a way to do it without costing me more money?
I didn't say the price was necessarily a drawback; just thought I'd throw my two cents in if the OP didn't want to purchase more software (as he/she alluded to in the first post). Even if it's a small cost (in your opinion), the OP said they didn't want to spend any more money. I didn't think about buying it on ebay; but that's a good idea. Just keep in mind that the Parallels free phone support is only good for the first few months after purchasing a new copy, so if you're buying a used copy, you won't get free phone tech support. I think they have per-incident support once the free period is over, though. And they probably have forums you can use to troubleshoot any issues.
Parallels can also cause a slow/laggy OS, which could be seen as a drawback. Of course, you could always purchase more RAM if the computer does lag, but there's another cost. I'm sure it doesn't happen to everyone, but it can happen, that I've seen. Especially if the computer you install it on is an older one that barely meets the Lion system requirements to begin with.
I agree with you; I purchase hardware and software for the future. If my new iMac won't run software from 2004-2008, I guess I'm upgrading. I understand when people don't want to upgrade, but after so many years, it's not really a choice.
I prefer the dual-boot method; it's cleaner (in my experience) than a virtual machine software program, and causes fewer issues with the main OS installation. It's really just preference, though. The OP can try both ways and decide which is preferable for him/her.
What I posted was (as I said in my first post) just my suggestion. I wasn't trying to override what you said about Parallels being the answer; just adding a new answer that I didn't yet see in this thread, in case the OP wanted an alternative. Maybe I mis-read the defensive attitude in your post, and if so, I apologize. But you seemed to be defending something that I wasn't truly even attacking to begin with. I feel that the best choices are the most informed ones, and with more options, the OP can find the best answer for him/her.
