The icon switch keeps defaulting to off

The iCloud switch for pages and numbers keeps defaulting to off. I switch it to on and when I open back up the iCloud main screen that guy backed off.

IOS 7.1.x tethering keeps defaulting to off

I use tethering from my (non jailbroken) iPhone as my main internet connection for my macbook air (10.9.4).
It used to be great - just plug in via usb and play.
But since iOS 7.1, the tethering option has defaulted to 'off' - when you go into settings to change it, you see "Personal tethering (off)" in the settings home screen... when you tap on personal tethering to change the setting, it immediately switches itself on. It's just really annoying...
Looks like a bug, but does anyone know of a fix?

Start basic and try resetting your iPhone by simultaneously pressing and holding the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons until you see the Apple Logo. This can take up to 15 seconds so be patient and don't release the buttons until the logo appears.
Try again to see if the problem persists.

On 6-4-06 I installed Norton Internet Security 3.0.1 for Mac. I thought maybe my problem was related to the firewall part so I unistalled it and turned the Apple firewall that came with the computer back on.
This did not help. In fact, when I try to open “Help” from the desktop menu the program opens and then immediately closes so I can’t access it.
I hate to have to tell you this Norton is the problem, looking into uninstalling it, the uninstallers that came with it are not effective so no matter you do not have the CD/DVD go to their site to get the Uninstaller
UseCocktail or OnyXto find the invisable files. Just follow Macjacks directive.

You can't chage this. What's going on is that apps are permanently tied to the Apple ID used to purchase them, and all future updates will require you to enter the password associated with this ID, even if you are not currently using this ID for purchases. The only way to stop the prompt for your older ID would be to delete these apps from your phone and your iTunes library and repurchase them using your current ID.

Why is there an odd delay when invoking the task switcher w/"Reduce motion" off?

Sometime after updating to iOS 7.1 (and 7.1.1), I noticed that when I double-clicked the home button in order to invoke the task switcher (and when I pressed on an app preview or icon in order to switch to it), that there was a 2-3 second delay before the task switcher actually appears (or I switch to the chosen app). What is doubly strange is that if I turn "reduce motion" to OFF in Settings > Accessibility, the delay goes away.
To make matters worse, a friend of mine with an "iPad 3" (i.e. the first iPad with a retina display) tells me that he does not see the delay. I've restored the iPad and set it up as a new iPad, yet the delay does not disappear.
Has anyone else observed this problem?

I see this problem as well.
There is a 2-second delay from when I hit the HOME button twice on my iPAD 2 before any of the open Apps appear.
There is also a lag when selecting some settings (ex. Wallpapers & Brightness ... about 2-3 seconds after I make the selection).
My Settings -> General -> Accessibility -> Reduce Motion is set to ON as well.

Why are the icons HUGE by default?

Hey Everyone,
I got Snow Leopard yesterday and did a clean install (reformatted the HD before installing). My only issues is that the icons are HUGE by default - just like in Windows Vista and 7 (at least there's a very easy way to change that). What is the default icon and spacing size for Leopard Desktop/Finder? I can't stand the humungous sizes and can't seem to find the right size with the little slider in all the Finder windows.

Once upon a time icons were 32x32. They started moving on up in size, for the last several years they were 128x128, and in Leopard many of the system default icons were 512x512, although the Finder didn't actually take any advantage of this. I figured Apple was "in transition" and was moving to that larger size as the new default. Sure enough, in Snow Leopard that is the new normal.
For your purposes you can set whatever you want as the default size, and in folders where you have things you want to display larger icons you can customize the settings for that folder only.

The first time I set up the Time Capsule, I had all sorts of issues. Finally our connection issues seem resolved but I can't get Time Machine to back up.
I click on Time Machine. I slide the button to yes. It asks me to choose where I want to back up. The only option is the Time Capsule so I select that. It prompts me for my password, which I enter and then the stupid button slides from on to off.
WHY???? What am I doing wrong??

I'm having the same problem. Haven't figured out a solution yet. Have you tried connecting a USB external hard drive? I wondering if you will get the automatic message to use it for backups, I do not. Nor did I get it when I first plugged in my Time Capsule. I'm starting to think that the problem is in Time Machine. I'm trying to find out a way to reinstall Time Machine from scratch.

It's either hardware or it's software. For the software side, I would suggest force-restarting the phone: press Home and Sleep until the Apple logo appears (ignore the red slider).
If that doesn't do the trick, reset the phone's settings by doing Settings / General / Reset / Reset All Settings. This does not erase your data, just the settings, which you may need to readjust.
If it is still misbehaving, time to get evil on that phone's azz! Back up all your stuff by plugging it to an iTunes-equipped computer, and do a sync. Set iTunes to store the backup locally. Confirm you have a valid backup in iTunes / Preferences / Devices. Then unplug the phone and wipe it clean by doing Settings / General / Reset / Erase All Content and Settings. Check if sound has returned on the virgin phone. If so, restore your stuff by plugging it back into iTunes, going to its Summary tab and doing a Restore.
If the phone remains mute thru all this, then it is hardware and a trip to the Store will be inevitable. You will get an exchange phone, most probably. Do the Restore on the new device to get your stuff back.

How to reset all the icon spacing etc in Finder back to default?

I have tried to set back to the default values but it's still isn't quite the same as before -- the horizontal spacing is correct but not the vertical one. Is there a way to reset the icon spacing as default?

Your not done... That will set the user defined defaults back to the Apple defined defaults. To get your folders to use the Apple defined defaults, open up a folder showing the wrong spacing and press Command-J to bring up the View Options window. At the bottom of the View Options window there is a button that says "Use as Defaults". Press the Option Key and the "Use as Defaults" button will change to "Restore to Defaults". Click the "Restore to Defaults" button and the folder will go back to the Apple defined default settings. You might need to Control-click on the window for the folder and select "Clean Up" to get things lined up. Good luck...

It sounds like you cannot get your iCloud email to download to the Mail app on your Mac. I would use the following troubleshooting to help resolve that from the article named:

Locate the name of your iCloud account on the left side of the main Mail window. If your iCloud account name is dimmed and has a lightning-bolt symbol next to it, your account is offline. Choose Preferences from the Mail menu.

Firefox now asks permission to open each time I click the icon. I have shut off the computer and on several times. I then re-installed the browser but still it asks permission to open.
It seems to work again but can I get rid of opening permission request please? I may have 2 versions of the browser in the computer or the new program did not replace the old?
If I uninstall the program will I lose my bookmarks? Please can you help?

Limit switchs will not turn off

We are using PXI 1031 with NI Motion Assistant and the Measurement and Automation Explorer. Our limit switchs are always reading active, and when we go into Axis Configuration to try and change thigns, something is creating an update loop that prevents us from changing any of the default confiurations. Any suggestions on either the update problem or the limit switch issues? Probing the limit switches shows good performance 0V-4.8V off/on, so it is not the hardware.

What is the motion controller that you are using?
We can try to go into Measurement and Automation Explorer, expand your particular motion device, go to Motion I/O Settings and disable all limit swithces and initialize to see if the limit switch will be turned off.

New apps in iTunes default to "off" in Apps tab on iPad, but "on" on iPhone

I am using iTunes 9.1.1 on a Mac.
When I buy new apps in iTunes, on the "Apps" tab for the iPhone these new apps default to on (i.e. with a check-mark next their to name). But on my iPad, the same new app defaults to off (i.e. with no check-mark).
I have read other posts where people are complaining that all their apps are automatically selected on their iPad. I am having the reverse problem, but only on my iPad.
Any ideas?

Me too! I plugged my ipad in at 11 am this morning and left the house to run errands. it is now 7 pm and the darn thing is still syncing! i dont understand. i plugged it in when i first got it and it backed it up and then started to sync. i let it go for about an hour and then got impatient and cancelled sync. then like i said before ... plugged it in and it is taking forever! i thought there was something wrong with itunes so i plugged in my ipod touch and had no probelms backing up and syncing. it finished in a few minutes. so what is going on here? do we really need to sync?

Neil is right. That icon you accidentally deleted was an url icon. When clicked on your browser would open up and take you to the Apple website. You can bring the icon back just as Neil described. Once there, right mouse on the icon and 'Keep In Dock' should hold it in place.
