The iMac i got presents spots in the window, in an apple store they said it maybe a manufacturing defect and they may resolve the problem changing the window for free. The question is.. I have to do the backup or it's not necessary?

Everything said in the discussion name.
I have to change the external glass and this problem too. Someone knows if I have to do necessary the backup?

You should backup anyway, using Time Machine or some other method, just in case Apple need to change the HD, or something goes wrong.
Always have a current backup, since computers & hard disks do fail.
