The "improved" Reduce Motion in iOS 7.0.3 is awful

I can't comprehend how anyone thought bundling together the parallax wallpaper with the animation was a good idea. They're both either On or Off in iOS 7.0.3.
The animations are excellent, but now they're gone if I don't use the parallax too.
This is horrible for me and it makes iOS 7 a lot less pleasant to use. I really hope the next update will have separate options to activate the wallpaper and the animations, because it's insane that hundreds of millions of people have reduced usability options thanks to a few of them who got motion sickness and were really loud about it.

Just sent in a request for separate options. If Apple gets enough of these requests, meybe they'll do it. Besides, the reduced motion setting is already on its own screen so it looks like Apple had planned ahead for separate options. At this point, there's only two things reduced motion does. But once more there's more, Apple will probably separate them.
pdroth is correct, parallax doesn't bother anybody, only the battery.
I also requested they add a third reduced motion option to eliminate the slam/bounce animation when the notification center hits bottom. Who needs a useless jarring bounce animation anyway. In fact there should be a fourth option: disable all useless gradients and flatten to the average color of the gradient. And there should be a fifth option to disable all useless, pointless Jonny Ive'isms that he may think of in the future.

  • What are all the improvements and Fixes in iOS 5.1?

I need to know what they are to find out if I really need an iPad 3 if I'm missing out.

Good post Allan, you're spot on.
As for 5.1, I've applied it to an iPad 2 and 4s and one thing I found so far is that I can now delete photos from Photo Stream.
Not enough time with it yet to officially declare that my battery life has improved but I will say this:  My iPad has been in standby all day today, have not used it, and is still sitting at 100% battery life after about 24 hours since my last charge.  This "seems" like an small improvement but am not absolutely sure.  I guess I am lucky, I didn't seem to have the battery problems that many have reported with previous versions of iOS and hardware.  The 4s also seems to also have benefitted from slightly improved battery life.  I guess time will tell.

  • IOS7.0.3 Reduce Motion fixes the problem for some, but goes too far.

In the past, reduce motion would disable the parallax effect, which is basically when the wallpaper shifts back and forth as you tilt the screen. This parallax effect was rather pointless to have, but it was pretty big on draining battery (I noticed around 10-20% longer battery life after turning Reduce Motion on).
Now, reduce motion not only disables the parallax effect, but all the zooming motions as you open apps or folders. The problem with this is that some people, such as myself, really enjoy those zooming motions. However, the parallax effect (wallpaper shifting) was pretty pointless and not too noticeable, so turning that off was fine.
I would like to have the option to turn specific things off. For example, an on-or-off button for the parallax effect. A separate on-or-off button for zooming motions when you open apps and folders. That way, I can still have the iOS motion I love, and save that much battery power at the same time. I don't really like the smooth overlay transition, it's not as exciting and it feels too much like Droid OS.

Sorry but no point in telling us, Apple is not here this is just a user to user forum for technical support. If you wish to see something change in the OS then you can provide Apple with feedback here:

  • What settings on my iPad and iPhone will help prevent motion sickness, other than "Reduce Motion" switched on, please?

Please advise whether there are any settings other than "Reduce Motion" under iOS 7 that could help prevent motion sickness on an iPad 3 and iPhone 4S. I've set "Reduce Motion" on but it hasn't helped, I still get motion sickness within a minute or two.
    Thank you.

Unfortunately right now that is the only setting you can control.
Apple is aware and may address this in future updates.
You can leave Apple your feedback here.

  • Why is there an odd delay when invoking the task switcher w/"Reduce motion" off?

Sometime after updating to iOS 7.1 (and 7.1.1), I noticed that when I double-clicked the home button in order to invoke the task switcher (and when I pressed on an app preview or icon in order to switch to it), that there was a 2-3 second delay before the task switcher actually appears (or I switch to the chosen app). What is doubly strange is that if I turn "reduce motion" to OFF in Settings > Accessibility, the delay goes away.
To make matters worse, a friend of mine with an "iPad 3" (i.e. the first iPad with a retina display) tells me that he does not see the delay. I've restored the iPad and set it up as a new iPad, yet the delay does not disappear.
Has anyone else observed this problem?

I see this problem as well.
There is a 2-second delay from when I hit the HOME button twice on my iPAD 2 before any of the open Apps appear.
There is also a lag when selecting some settings (ex. Wallpapers & Brightness ... about 2-3 seconds after I make the selection).
My Settings -> General -> Accessibility -> Reduce Motion is set to ON as well.

  • Problems with IOS 7 and reduce motion (parallelex)

I had problems installing IOS7  so I had to do a recover but now I do not have the "Reduce motion" feature in accessibility. When I first tried to install IOS 7 I saw the feature, but when I had to reinstall IOS 7 I no longer see the feature to ensure that it is turned off.
Should I still see it?  How do I make sure it is off since I can't see it?
    Thanks for your help...

Does anybody have even any thoughts on this and whether it might be a known issue of any kind? Anyone seeing this with other .wav attachments outside of Cisco UM  ?

  • Why don't I have reduce motion option with iOS 7.0.2 upgrade?

Why don't I have reduce motion option with iOS 7.0.2 upgrade?  It is making me really dizzy and sick to my stomach similar to reading in the car (can't do that either).  I read to go into general settings, accessibility and click reduce motion....I do not have this option at all.  HELP!

Seconded. Although my main problem w/ that zoom-out-as-app-loads effect is that I suspect it's the source of that annoying delay between app zooming open & UI being active/accepting input. When I switch between apps, after the zoom completes, there's 1-2 seconds where the app accepts no UI input at all. This seemed instantaneous in iOS 6.
(Oh, off-topic, but the control center is devilishly hard to sweep up. most of the time I accidentally start Safari or Mail.)

  • Reduce Motion Problems iPhone 5 iOS 7.0.4

I've been having problems with my reduce motion setting. I usually have it turned on so I don't have the extra motion. But when I turn it off, it only stays off until turn off my phone. When I turn my phone back on then reduce motion is enabled. In other words after disabling reduce motion, it will enable its self after a reboot. Help!

I would suggest to update your phone to the latest iOS to see if that resolves the issue.

  • How to fix iOS 7.1.1 wallpaper without reduce motion?

Does anybody know how to fix the wallpaper on iPad  running iOS 7.1.1 without turning on reduce motion? And it would be absolutely great if someone has a free app which performs this.
    This would be really helpful.

This is fixed in iOS 7.1 and is quite easy to do!
    1. Make sure Reduce Motion is turned OFF
    2. Go to Settings > Wallpaper & Brightness
    3. Tap your wallpaper
    4. In the bottom right tap Perspective Zoom: On to turn it off
    5. Tap the appropriate Set button

  • IOS 7.0.3:  Not impressed with new Reduce Motion update

I agree with others that the parallax feature was nauseating at times however the zoom in/out animations of opening/closing apps didn't bother me much.  Maybe I was one of the few in this category however up until iOS 7.0.3, I truly enjoyed turning on the "Reduce Motion" under settings because it allowed me to turn off the parallax and still retain the the zoom in/out animations of iOS 7.  Now with 7.0.3, it turns off the parallax as well as all the OS animations.  I wish they had allowed two options under the Reduce Motion setting where one setting allowed you to turn on/off the parallax and another setting that allowed you to turn on/off the OS animations.  I am curious as to what others think about this new update to the Reduce Motion setting in iOS 7.0.3.  Thoughts?

Couldn't agree with you more! Send feedback to Apple and suggest they correct this. I already did.

  • HT5595 I can't find the 'Reduce Motion' option on my iPhone 4 running on iOS7

In the accessibility menu, under 'Increase Contrast' is 'On/Off Labels' and not 'Reduce Motion'. Help please? I really would like to be able to rescale my photos when I set my wallpapers.

If you have any active auto-renewing subscriptions then you should get the Subscriptions option showing on your account - and each subscription should be shown with when they are due to renew and how long for (and, if available, show you any options for the length/cost of renewal) and have an on/off switch.
If an app does offer auto-renewing subscriptions then the should be mentioned on its description page in the store, and the 'top' IAPs are also generally listed on the left-hand side of the app's description page in the store on your computer's iTunes.
You could contact iTunes Support to double-check to see if they can see any on your account : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page, then Purchases, Billing & Redemption

Windows: How to Authorize or Deauthorize iTunes | PCWorld.
In iTunes you use the Authorize This Computer or De-authorize This Computer option under the Store menu in iTunes' menubar. For Windows use the ALT-S keys to access it. Or turn on Windows 7 and 8 iTunes menus: iTunes- Turning on iTunes menus in Windows 8 and 7.
More On De-authorizing Computers (contributed by user John Galt)
You can de-authorize individual computers, but only by using those computers. The only other option is to "de-authorize all" from your iTunes account.
      1. Open iTunes on a computer
      2. From the Store menu, select "View my Account..."
      3. Sign in with your Apple ID and password.
      4. Under "Computer Authorizations" select "De-authorize All".
      5. Authorize each computer you still have, as you may require.
You may only do this once per year.
After you "de-authorize all" your authorized computers, re-authorize each one as required.
If you have de-authorized all computers and need to do it again, but your year has not elapsed, then contact: Apple - Support - iTunes - Contact Us.

  • I have upgraded my iPhone 5 with iOS 7 and I can´t turn on location services. I have already twice restored the instalation of iOS 7 but no change. This should be the improvement of the apple software? Has anybody similar problem?

I have upgraded my iPhone 5 with iOS7 and I can´t turn on location services. I have already restored the instalation of oOS 7 twice but no change. This should be the improvement of apple software? Does anybody have similar problem? Do you know how to solve it?

A workaround is to reinstall lazy apps, mostly for those that were restored but don't appear on notification center, eg. Whatsapp. In my case I have more than 500 apps installed.
We need a correct solution for this problem.
I also had this problem on the past moving from 4s to 5.
And now from 5 to 5s.
The only notifications working after restore in my iPhone are those from Facebook.
