The info panel

Hello everyone,
I use iCal a lot (in OS X 10.4.11) and have noticed that in 10.5 and 10.6 the 'permanent' info panel has disappeared.
Does anyone know if you can get it back?
I often need to see my entire month's calendar as well as the details of one specific event so having it is very useful.
Cheers for any help.

simon.goodwin,
Use iCal>Edit>Show Inspector to gain access to to the "Inspector" window.

  • Displaying both pixel and inch dimesnsion in the Info Panel

Anybody else constantly switching the Info Panel from displaying inches to pixels and vice versa?
How to avoid having to do this? I either want to see one or the other, somtimes being able to see both simultaneously would be nice. While dragging out Rectangular Marquees, doing Transforms, etc.

I actually installed the trial of Flash Builder but did not get far before it expired, so I can only share Silkrooster’s suspicion that it may be possible.

  • In the Info panel, how do I display pixel values as values, not as percentages?

I'm trying to show, using the eye dropper tool, the actual values of pixels in an 8-bit grayscale image (Mode command confirms that's what's there). In the Info panel, the eye dropper tool displays percentages for every type of color information (K, CMYK), while the "8-bit" field remains blank.
I've looked at Properties and pretty much everything else that I can find with no luck.

    Noel,
Thanks for your reply. I thought this had been fixed by recreating the Preferences file, but this morning I was back to percentages. I did have different settings in the Info Panel from the ones in your very helpful picture, and after I changed mine to match yours I now see 0-255 values in the R, G, B settings when using the eyedropper on this grayscale image.
Instead of RGB Color for the First Color Readout I had "Actual Color". This by itself causes percentages to be displayed. All options for the Second Color Readout all seem to produce percentages.
"Actual Color" is what I normally use for the first readout. In the case of a Grayscale document, it will display a K (black) value. For a RGB image, it will display R,G and B values. And so on.
When 8-bit is chosen for the value format, we expect a value of 0..255 to be displayed. As you know, that works fine for the RGB readout, but a Grayscale readout displays a percentage instead.
So if you set one of the readouts to RGB and 8-bit, you can get 0..255 values to be displayed for your Grayscale document.
When the document is Grayscale, the RGB values are a conversion from the document colour space to the RGB working space as defined in Edit > Color Settings. To get the true values of the pixels, the Grayscale document profile and RGB working space must be complementary (for lack of a better word). That's why, in my first reply, I said to use the following combinations:
Doc with sGray profile and RGB working space of sRGB.
Doc with Gray Gamma 2.2 profile and RGB working space of Adobe RGB.

Adding to the "any stunt you can think of" list.  If you're not concerned with formatting and the documents are primarily text, open them in TextEdit.  After a page or two of indecipherable code, you'll see the textual meat of the file, followed by more code.  The text portion itself is often fairly readable, even if the file is damaged.

  • Misleading Vertex position info in the info panel

If anyone is at all interested, the vertex position information provided in the info panel is in a coordinate space relative to the current zoom of the currently active composition viewport, not the coordinate space of the composition.
So if your composition is 512x512 pix and you're at 200% zoom in the comp viewer you're going to see coordinates within this space of your vertex position in terms of a 1024x1024 space. Similarly, at 400% zoom you're now in a coordinate space of 2048x2048 for the vertices of your path objects, but NOT for the info panels reporting of your current mouse positioning.
You will therefore not have true pixel precision available to you for vertex movement unless you divide whatever coordinates you see by the rate of zoom, or work at 100% zoom.
Is this in the documentation anywhere?
Is this a feature, or a remnant of a finer nudge feature?
Anyway to turn on pixel snapping for a zoomed in view when moving vertices of a path, shape or mask?

It works as it always has/ is designed. Same answer as your otehr post: If you need precision, use Illustrator.

  • Which one is right? The colour picker or the info panel?

Try this one out at home kids:
Set your colour picker to Greyscale and dial 25% K into your foreground colour swatch.
Now, in a new, RGB document, fill that document with your foreground colour.
Now open the Info palette, set one of your readouts to "Greyscale" and enjoy seeing it read 31% K.
    Uh.
    WTF?
My RGB readout reads 192 across all channels, which is correct: 192 / 256 = 75% (additive) = 25% (subtractive)
This probably has something to do with colour management, but could someone A) explain to me what is happening, and B) tell me how to set it so I can get mathematically predictable results?

I'm not trying to argue...well, I am - but if you could explain precisely what you're after I'm sure it's doable.
Dag, did you go through the exact sequence he put up in the first post?
The issue is that we seem to be able to set the absolute numbers for RGB in the COLOR panel (made visible through the Window - Color) menu via choosing Grayscale and a %K value - in this case 25% sets color (192, 192, 192).  It sets these values no matter what profile the document is using.
When that color is used on any old document, the profile is involved with reading back the number in the %K portion of the info panel.
No profile is involved with setting the number (because this operation doesn't involve a document), a profile IS involved with reading the number from a document.  That difference is at the root of the issue Tom is sensing, I think.
My comment about Photoshop being developed on a Mac... Note that with a profile carrying gamma 1.8, Photoshop DOES make the numbers match., probably owing to a hard-coded gamma correction in the logic of the info panel.  It might be more reasonable for it to just use the gamma derived from the profile, or just do a conversion to linear space first, but then that would change the way Photoshop works, and Adobe appears to have a policy of "keep it very consistent with past releases, so everything still works".

  • Having the info panel open with curves open

    Hi,
Just switched from CS6 to PS CC. I usually set my white and black points using curves. Set the points then go to curves and adjust the points with the RGB channels. In PS CC, I cannot seem to have the curves and info panel open at the same time. Anyone know how to accomplish this?
    Thank you,
    Jim

Hi, c.pfaffenbichler, Here is a screenshot of the curves properties panel open. I would like to see the info panel open at the same time so I can drag the point on the curve to specific values of R,G and B. If I click on the info tab in this curves panel the info comes up but I do not see the curves properties anymore. I want to be able to see both open at the same time.
    Thank you,
    Jim

  • In Iphoto 11 9.4.2 - why can't I see the filepath of my photo in the information panel?

I recently upgraded with a new Macbook Pro.  It runs IPhoto 11 9.4.2 and used to love to look at the Info for a photo file.  I would click on "more info" and get sie and image path.  It would also have the original file name (usually a number assigned from the sd card), rather than the name I had changed the file to, like "at the beach".
Now I hit Command I and the info panel slides in on the right and I just can't see these things anymore!  It's like the information panel is taken up with "faces" and Places", neither of which I use much.
Am I missing an option to view this info?  Where did it go?

actually - I just found out on another thread that perhaps "file path" was never on the information panel anyway.  I wonder if I am confusing it with the info panel I see in iphoto library Manager.
And I just hovered my mouse over the "at the beach" file name in the information panel, and discovered the origianal file name showed up.  And if you hover your mouse of the date, you see "taken, modified and and imported".
Still wish I could see the file path, but now wondering if I ever did in iPhoto.  But hope this reply of my own helps others that may be wondering where some of the stuff went.

  • BUG: Info panel displays incorrect Hue values

Recently, I've been doing a lot of work with color in Fireworks and came across the following bug, which appears to be a longstanding issue within the application. Rather than keeping it to myself, I figured I'd post it here in addition to submitting a bug report with Adobe. So here it is...
Hue values displayed within the Info panel (in HSB mode) do not consistently match the values displayed in the Color Mixer panel—including basic colors such as pure Yellow, Cyan, and Magenta. The values are 1 degree off—most often below the Color Mixer value, but sometimes above (as with Magenta). This holds true whether using with the Eyedropper tool or the Color Picker swatches eyedropper, and whether sampling from the canvas or from swatches.
For example, the following inconsistencies were observed when sampling the centermost horizontal strip within CS6's default Color Cubes swatches picker. Note that over 50% of these colors are affected by the issue.
The Color Mixer seems to display the correct values, while the Info panel's values appear to be incorrect. Note that this issue affects the HSB mode only; the RGB and Hex values are consistent between both panels.
This bug has been observed in Fireworks CS6, Fireworks CS5.1 and Fireworks 8 on Mac OS 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard).
Here's the bug report submitted for this issue:
    Product name: Fireworks
    Product Version: 12.0.0.236
    Product Language: English
Your operating system: Mac OS 10.6.8 (Intel-based)
    ******BUG******
Concise problem statement: The Info panel displays incorrect Hue values for many colors—including pure Yellow, Cyan, and Magenta. The Hue values are usually 1 degree below the value displayed in the Color Mixer panel (e.g., 59 instead of 60 for Yellow) but sometimes 1 degree above (e.g., 301 instead of 300 for Magenta). This is true whether using the Eyedropper tool or the Color Picker swatches eyedropper, and whether sampling from the canvas or from swatches.
    Steps to reproduce bug:
In an open Fireworks document, open the Info, Color Mixer, and Swatches panels. Within the Color Mixer and Info panels, set the color mode to HSB.
Draw a Rectangle and set its fill to Yellow (#FFFF00) using the Color Picker.
Observe the Hue values displayed in the Color Mixer and Info panels.
Select the Eyedropper (I) tool, and sample the rectangle's fill color. Again, observe the Hue values displayed in both the Color Mixer and Info panels.
Results: In both steps 3 and 4, the Hue value for pure Yellow (#ffff00) appears as 60 degrees in the Color Mixer panel but 59 degrees in the Info panel.
Expected results: The Hue for pure Yellow (#ffff00) should appear as 60 degrees in both panels.
Note that this issue affects the Info panel's HSB mode only; the RGB and Hex values are consistent between panels. Also note that this bug affects over 50% of the "pure" hues within CS6's Color Cubes swatches palette. For more info, see the following forum post:
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1083391
This bug has been observed in Fireworks CS6, CS5.1 and FW8 on Mac OS 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard).

I haven't done anything other than add my footage to the timeline. I have 2 layers (1 targa seq and 1 png seq). As I move my mouse from the Timeline to the Comp Panel, the color values flash for a split second and go away. If I press Opt+1 (2, 3, and 4) the Info Panel displays the color for that one pixel but the values go blank as soon as I move my mouse. This happens in the Comp Panel mostly. If I open a Footage or Layer Panel, sometimes the values show, sometimes not. Never had this issue in previous versions.

  • Ruler and Info panel give different pixel dimensions

The pixel dimensions in Illustrator CS5's Info panel are wrong. Can anyone suggest why?
I have a web layout in Illustrator that I'm transposing into Adobe Muse, using Save for Web and Devices.
I want to use the X and Y coordinates and the dimensions of the objects in Illustrator to place them correctly in Muse, so that all the elements scale to the right size.
The Illustrator artboard is 960 pixels wide and the layout fits the artboard. Similarly, the site width in Muse is 960px wide.
The measuring units are in pixels in Illustrator, but something very strange is going on.
in the Info panel, a grouped object - a logo - is described as 16383 pixels wide and 211px high.
It's simply not possible, not least because the logo is taller than it is wide. But when I measure it with the ruler tool, it tells me that the logo is 136px high and 122px wide.
The problem only applies to this grouped object and it's not because it's grouped with some other thing that is 16383 pixels wide - the bounding box fits precisely round the logo when it is selected.
    Can anyone suggest a solution?

    Badger,
What happens if you Copy and Paste that Group into a new Document (you may the rest follow if it helps)?

  • Graphic link isn't shown in the links panel.

    Hi there.
I'm working on a 550 page catalogue. As many problems with InDesign start, we've converted the file from Quark Xpress into InDesign.
This was a manual process and we drag and dropped all the images across, luckily InDesign took the link with it when it was dragged across. However looking through the files now, I've noticed that some images don't have any links at all - It doesn't even show up as a missing link, theres nothing there. I assume this is where the link has been missing in the original quark file. see attachment.
(The bottom left image is selected, of the brown mat - as you can see, no link info is seen and also no info is show on the Info panel.)
The only way to check if this error has occured is by clicking on each image to see if the link is there.
My question is, has anyone come across this before and is there a way to find this error in a pre-flight check. There are thousands of images and it would take a very long time to go through and check each image individually.
Thank you in advance of your response.
    Regards
    Dave

    Hi Peter.
    Thanks for the response.
Well, when we were faced with converting the files into ID we were looking at ways in which to do it. We found that dragging and dropping from QXP9 into ID CS5.5 worked a treat. I'd say 95% of them have worked perfectly, its just these troublesome ones I want to keep a track on.
I tried exporting as .idml but to no success. Thanks anyway for the suggestion.
I think I'll have to go through and manually check all these images. Unless you or anybody else knows of a way to spot these through a Preflight check.
Thanks again for your reply, Peter.

  • Copying From Info Panel

    Hi,
I created a Powerpoint for a class project at school. I downloaded about 100 random images from the web and saw that the source/url was in the cmd/I info panel. I wasn't sure which ones I'd use so I waited till I was done to copy the source/web site url from the info panel.

  • Info panel

    hi,
I want to use the info panel. So I open a new document, and I Paste an image into a blank indesign file. I try to see the effective PPI, but the screen stays blank (as in, there is no information in "Type","Actual PPI", "Effective PPI" and "Color Space"). Eventhough I selected the image. What am I doing wrong? I posted a Small screenshot. I am on the mac version, cs6.

Unless it's a mac only feature image quality is maintained when you paste from PS—the clipboard pastes a PDF.
Here I've made a 1"x1" 1000ppi file in Photoshop with small rasterized text and an image, then pasted (left) and placed (right).
If I scale both up 300% the placed version shows an effective ppi of 333ppi as expected:
If I export the page to PDF without compression or resampling, the images appear identical and Acrobat's Object inspector tells me they have the same res and bit depth. Here Object Inspector is showing the pasted version's info:
