Why is the installer stuck on "Checking System Profile-"?
I'm trying to install Flash Catalyst Beta on a MacBook Pro running OS 10.6.1 (Snow Leopard).
The installer starts to work, but then it stops at the point where it checks the system profile (see attached screenshot). It doesn't seem to have crashed as the dock icon allows me to quit without force quitting the application.
I've tried it in my regular user account and the administrator account, but the behaviour is identical.
Any help would be appreciated.I appreciate all your efforts, but I¹ve just received my new copy of CS5, so
I¹ll be installing the final version.

I need to ask you a few questions and request you to perform some more steps
so that I can debug your problem.
1. Have you modified any folder permissions, authorization setup using
Keychain Access utility (or any other tool)?
2. Open a Terminal window, and run the command 'ls -l /tmp' and copy-paste
the output printed on your screen in your reply.
3. Delete all files whose name start with 'asu' in your /tmp folder. Run the
command 'rm -rf /tmp/asu*'. Restart your machine.
4. Launch the Flash Catalyst setup and check if installation proceeds
successfully. If it doesn't, proceed to the step below.
5. Open the folder containing the Flash Catalyst setup. Browse to the
'packages' folder and rename the file 'install.sig' to 'update.sig'. Double
click and launch the Flash Catalyst setup. This will not install the
application but install the Adobe Application Manager. Let me know if you
see a small dialog with a progress bar. Rename back update.sig to
install.sig. Update us your observations. Continue to next step.
6. Launch 'Disk Utility' app (from /Applications/Utilities). Select your OS
partition in the left panel and click on 'First Aid' tab on the top. Click
on the 'Repair Disk Permissions' button at the bottom.
7. Again, launch the Flash Catalyst setup and check if installation proceeds
successfully. If it doesn't, proceed to the step below.
8. Open a Terminal window and navigate to the directory containing the Flash
Catalyst setup. Run the command 'sudo Install.app/Contents/MacOS/Install'
and enter the password. Let me know if the installer launches and on
following the screen instructions do you still see the error screen or does
the installation proceed successfully. -
I have a new Mac computer that has imovie. I recently made a movie that i would like to burn to a DVD. I hear that idvd is no longer being sold. Is there software on the computer that i can use to burn a dvd or is there a recommended software to use?
There is no really satisfactory substitute for iDVD to burn video files from iMovie.
Whilst Macs with a Superdrive continue to be able to burn video DVDs, the software for so doing, iDVD, is no longer included in the iLife bundle that comes with OS 10.7 Lion (which also omitted iWeb) or will come with OS 10.8 Mountain Lion. And it is no longer included in the iLife 11 from the online Apple Store: http://www.apple.com/ilife/. Your only solution is to look on Amazon or eBay and try to get an older version that includes iDVD 7, i.e. iLife version 9 onwards. You should also do this if you plan to buy a new Mac anytime soon, as stocks of iLife that include iDVD will not be available for ever.
However, the vastly more expensive FCPX can burn a DVD without iDVD or DVD Studio Pro involvement, but lack the themes etc of iDVD. Also, of course, there is Roxio Toast, which is the best software for burning anything but again does not offer the flexibility of iDVD. -
Could you please tell me why as a Brit resident in Japan therefore having a billing address that is Japanese is forced to only get service from the Japanese online store? Is there not some way of allowing me to select movies and music to buy and download from other stores. Why do am i forced to try to nread Japanese when I have selected English as my language. The price for Downloads is no different and even if it was I am happy to pay. This also applies to Movie rental which is crazy and extremely restrictive. I a supposed GLOBAL community why does Apple do this.
You can buy ONLY from the itunes store of your country of residence (As proven by valid billing address of credit card) and ONLY while inside the borders of that country.

I just "upgraded" my iPhone with the new software. As a low vision person, your phone was always previously helpful. I now discover that I cannot use the phone easily. The font has been changed to a very narrow typeface and the greyscale has been altered to reduce contrast. The background is now grey as well rather than white. The accessibility options permit only three choices. First, increase type size. With the the low greyscale, thin typeface, increasing type size makes it HARDER to read. There is no option for contrast enhancement. Third, the background switch options suffers from the same deficit as the white background. The third choice is to enhance brightness but without the option to change contrast, this is useless. Am I missing something? Can this be fixed? How? When? Are you planning a similar negative "update"/change to other devices?
I am having the same problem. I have gone through every setting, set the bold font, contrast, larger font....everything I could find in any post to try and help - and between the new color scheme that makes it virtually impossible to use the pictures of my grandchildren as background (the picture colors now become the theme colors - which now match the colors of many of the "flat" icons...) I am finding the phone very difficult to use--espeically things like the calendar which has now become very hard to "see" and use. If I can't revert this thing to iOS6, I may have to get a different phone.

I get a message that says: your account is not valid for use in the U.S. store. You must switch to the Canadian store be purchasing. I'm close to the border would that cause the switch because it does it automatically. Should I contact my internet provider help.
What store should you be using? If you should be using the Canadian store, try changing it in the settings.

Since Installing a new hard drive on my 2008 macbook and reconnecting to to time capsule through time machine, I can only get backups since the install.
I receive a message saying identity of backup dis has changed and offers me the choice of either Don't back up or Use this disc.Time Machine treats any new drive like a new computer. It starts a completely new Time Machine backup. So you now have two backups - a new one and all your old ones.

I imported a COMPLETED book project into Aperture 3, only to discover that the resolution of all the photos has been reduced to totally unacceptable levels. Any easy solution?
Steps:
1. I finished an Aperture 2 (Two) book project and tried to submit it to Apple for printing. At that point I learned (belatedly, obviously) that Apple no longer accepts books from Aperture 2. I don't know how I would have known to even ask if Aperture 2 had been sunsetted as far as book projects go.
2. So I tried to download Aperture 3 ($79.99), only to be told that I couldn't download Aperture 3.5.1 because I was still running OSX 10.8.x. So I read current reviews for OSX 10.9.x, and ...
3. Downloaded and installed the current operating system (about a 3-hours process for me). OSX 10.9.2, here we are!
4. Then I returned to the Apple Store, found, and purchased Aperture 3. [For safety's sake, it would sure be nice to have a .dmg file I could copy and file away. I lost a perfectly legal and good copy of Adobe's Photoshop Elements 3 years ago because I wasn't smart enough to make a safety copy, and when my iMac crashed (fried electronic components), I was left with a copy of the software that wouldn't run, and couldn't be verified as legit.]
5. When Aperture 3 finished installing, I found and imported my COMPLETED Aperture 2 book project, which import seemed to proceed nominally -- the right number of pages, the right content on those pages, that sort of thing -- until I started looking more carefully at the pictures themselves. All of them, about 300 of them, have been imported into an Aperture 3 book project in such a reduced resolution that they are fuzzy at the size the book will be printed. Screen-capture of just one example (at 100% viewer setting):
I don't know what to do at this point to correct the problem, short of going through the entire book project, copy the custom captions (since those go away when you "delete" photo content), delete the photo, re-insert the photo, and paste back the custom caption. Lather, rinse, repeat - ~300 times! An estimated 2-3 hours of additional work.
Or does anyone in this community know either (1) that I did something wrong in the Aperture 2-to-Aperture 3 import (I don't recall being offered any options or choices in the process); or (2) that there is a wholesale one-step solution to my problem?
BTW, I tried to edit my "Product" info, but OSX 10.9.x is not in the pick list. I am running OSX 10.9.2
<Re-Titled By Host>Frank, thanks for your note. I wrote "COMPLETED" because I had gone to a lot of effort to get the content of the book precisely as I wanted it. I would fully expect to see my level of effort and care matched by functional competence in Aperture 3 to render the book the way I created it. Too much to ask?
And yes, I upgraded the Aperture 2 Library first. [Not ALL my tens of 000s of pix, because I use Lightroom selectively for photo editing. But Yes to the Aperture 2 Library.] That step took a number of minutes, but seemed to work fine (no error messages of any kind).
Then I opened the existing book project in Aperture 3, which followed some "magic-box" process that took a minute or so. As I said, when that step was done, by all appearances the book was ready to submit for printing - until I examined the photos a little more closely. You did see the blurry example I included, didn't you? That is what each and every photo looks like.
Text-box content appears to have been rendered pertectly, for the record (including captions).
So, ... is this result something you have heard of before? Do you know of a one-step solution? Or am I looking at an extended picture-by-picture fix? -
I created an album and have been showing it presentation style, ken burns effects etc. Now every time I try to re-run it it starts from the end, last picture first! Can't seem to be able to reverse it. Any clue anyone?
First try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder (Snow Leopard and Earlier).
or with Lion, Mt. Lion or Mavericks delete the contents the User/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto/
Data/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - reboot, launch iPhoto, reset iPhoto's preferences and try again.
NOTE: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and press the Return key - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
If you're running Mavericks, 10.9, go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Options menu to bring the this window:
where you can check the Show Library Folder checkbox.
Next, if necessary, continue with the two fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - run Option #4 to rebuild the database.
Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button and select the library you want to add in the selection window..
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

We do have a place in the UK which we could use as an address, but for various reasons it gets a bit complex even though we still have a UK bank account. We moved to France when there were no iDevices and apps around, just bought the occasional music, so it wasn't a problem. Funny thing is I can't even download the free UK bank app because it's not available in the French store .
I'll live with the problem for now as we plan to move back to the UK in a year or so - we miss the weather . -
I can't burn a cd of my own created music. I either get the error 4261, or after "Checking media" the process stops and nothing further happens. Have tried different burn speeds and cds. Have re-installed iTunes.Any suggestions please?
wm0203Sounds like the CD drive died. Luckily they cost next to nothing to replace. Or get an external LaCie instead. I have a dual G4 1.25 and the CD drive was always so anemic I use a LaCie Porsche with it.

How do I change the settings on my ipod so that it plays continuous music. Right now, it plays the same song over and over, even if I select the shuffle icon. It used to show the continuous play icon, it doesn't anymore.

Choose the way of developing new system
We are going to develop new system . It will we typical distributed bank system and will position as 24/7 system so in this case it should be aссessible every minute and it should process all requests in real time. I understand that it's not convenient to give advices remotely but I need help. So I see two ways of developing:
1. Using RAC in each point of processing.
2. Using simple Oracle database with replication all data into another server.
There are too many options in using both methods. I see.
What way is the most suitable in such systems? I've mentioned above that our system will be distributed. I see it will be the main reason in my choice. Am I right?

I meant in my last line that in one moment we will be needed to add some hardware in our system - it's supposed that our application is tuned for any expand of system. We can add processors - but if the server has free slots for them. But if server has free slots - it isn't problem to buy processors from the beginning. I meant - if server exhausts all resources and we have to change it or add some more servers. How can we do it in simple Oracle base?
In RAC we can add more nodes in it and it will work better. But it's also problem because according to Oracle documentation we have to add exactly the same server in cluster. We will not be able to find exact servers after two years, for example. Moreover for expanding system, it's likely, we wish to increase number of processors in one server. We can't do it. And now I don't see the sense of cluster at all.
I agree with you, that Streams maybe isn't the best tool for my goal. But I can choose another soft or combine several tools (for example, I can use DataGuard or combine any tools with Backup etc).
