"The Installation was not successful" error message

Hoping someone can help. I'm trying to install Tiger, and currently have OS X 10.3.9. At the start of the install section of the process I get the error message in the subject line. I used my original Disk Utility to repair disk. It tells me I have a volume error and says it is fixed, but I still get the error. The Disk Utility with the Tiger install disk finds a volume issue but doesn't fix it.
Any suggestions on other things I can try? I'm trying to avoid an Erase and Install. Thanks.

Upgrading from 10.3.9 to 10.4 is a significant upgrade. You need to make sure everything is just right with your file system before embarking on this.
* Make sure the Tiger Install disks are the universal ones that can be used for any computer, not disks borrowed from someone or that are specific to a particular type of Macintosh.
* You need to repair the file system error that you are persistently getting. The fact that you cannot do so with Apple's utilities means it is probably something moderately serious and it needs to be addressed before installing anything. Since you already tried Disk Utility, I suggest you try Disk Warrior (the latest version) and possibly Tech Tool Pro.
* How much free disk space and how much memory does your Mac have? I would suggest at least 20 Gig free space and at least 1 Gig RAM.
* Can you indicate specifically what the error was that Disk Utility found but could not fix?
* I know you are trying to avoid erase and install, but you may find that doing that in the long run will take less time, even though you will need to migrate all your emails and files over and will probably need to reinstall many applications. I have done this myself and it doesn't take as much effort as you might think. If you decide to erase and install (I recommend it), you should first make two complete clones of your existing system on two external firewire drives and make sure you can boot to either one. This creates a fall back option for you ... should something go very wrong with your 10.4 install or you find that your applications are incompatible, you can revert back to your original setup by recloning back from one of the backups. In fact you should do the backups/clones even with an upgrade or archive & install approach since the upgrade could fail and make the system not bootable.
* No matter what you decide to do, you should fix the file system error.

I still get the message to download the app, but I did, and the installation was allegedly successful.  This even happens after a reboot

I guess that was a bit cryptic.  I'm trying to update iPhoto from system 10.5.6, a PowerPC system, to 10.8.  The app I downloaded is iPhotoLibraryUpgrader.dmg. I open that and I see Iphoto Library Upgrader.pkg.  Igo through the install, which says it completes successfully.  However, when I double-click on the iPhoto icon on the dock, I get the oroginal message that the upgrade must be installed.  I hope this gives enough information to diagnose the problem.  I apologize for the first message's laack of detail.

I received a message that the download was not successful and now my screen is showing the blue round itunes symbol with an arrow pointing to the symbol and shows a cable below it. I have tried the restart of pushing the two buttons together and waiting 10 seconds for the apple symbol which appears and then go backs to the same stuck symbol. My computer is not recognizing the ipod either and will not connect. What needs to be done?  Thanks.

It sounds like you may have multiple problems, but none of them are likely to be caused by malware.
First, the internet-related issues may be related to adware or a network compromise. I tend to lean more towards the latter, based on your description of the problem. See:
    http://www.adwaremedic.com/kb/baddns.php
    http://www.adwaremedic.com/kb/hackedrouter.php
If investigation shows that this is not a network-specific issue, then it's probably adware. See my Adware Removal Guide for help finding and removing it. Note that you mention AdBlock as if it should have prevented this, but it's important to understand that ad blockers do not protect you against adware in any way. Neither would any kind of anti-virus software, which often doesn't detect adware.
As for the other issues, it sounds like you've got some serious corruption. I would be inclined to say it sounds like a failing drive, except it sounds like you just got it replaced. How did you get all your files back after the new drive was installed?

  • HT5706 AppleTV fails updating, reports "The update was not successful."

Cutrrently my AppleTV is at version 6.0.2 (6646.81.1) connected to my network via ethernet. When I attempt to update my AppleTV, It downloads the update, begins step 1 of 2, preparing update, then it fails with the message "The update was not successful."

wait a while and try again
when one downloads something over the Internet the bits can get corrupted and in the process making the update broken the system detects that and will not try to update with the broken update
when people download things over the Internet the isp (internet service provider) they use cache the data for a while so if another one of their users or the same user download it again right away they will get the cached data from the isp rather having to transfer the data all the way from the original site this saves time and money in most cases
but it also mean if the data gets corrupted you have to wait a bit for their cache to flush before you try again
the process of isp's detecting if all of the data in their caches was valid would mean a lot of processing on their behalf making your isp bill higher so waiting a bit every now and then is pref'd in the eyes of most

  • After ejecting a disk plugged into the USB port using Finder, I am now getting "The disk was not properly ejected" message.  This didn't used to happen.  How can this be corrected?

After ejecting a disk plugged into the USB port using Finder, I am now getting "The disk was not properly ejected" message.  This didn't used to happen.  How can this be corrected?

When you right (control) click on the disk and click eject "disk name", do you pull it immeadiatly or wait a few seconds for it to unmount? Try waiting and see if you get the same message. If you do, when the disk is connected go to applications/utilities/disk utility, after opening DU, select the volume in question from the left side bar and try a permissions repair, you may also run verify disk and see if it comes up with any errors (they will be in red)

  • Overview of Leave --- CREATE OBJECT: The class  was not found., error key:

    Dear Gurus,
Iam facing this problem that, when i try to open the Leave Overview from the leave request screen. it gives the dump with message
CREATE OBJECT: The class  was not found., error key: RFC_ERROR_SYSTEM_FAILURE
this also creates a dump in the back end.
The same dump is appearing when i try to view the Check Documents for the same employee from PTARQ.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi ,
please find the following solution .it will definitely work .
If you leave configuration is done.
There was an incorrect data in your system. To do these please follow following process.
    delete this request using
    PTARQ> Delete documents (RPTARQDBDEl)
Please read the report documentation before
deleting the request but it should be safe as it is
    a development system.
Please delete this with the above information or delete all
    the records for the approver.
After this,, there will be some incorrect workitem in approver inbox.
You need to clear that also by Tcode - SWWL.
ALSO check the leave request workflow of that employee and if there is any error workflow lying in the workflow delete the leave request (which was created with error) Note down the id initiater ( which had error) and in the Test Environment for Leave request (PTARQ) gave the PERNR and delete the documents ( give the id iniater in the document status ).
To check the error work flow go to SWIA and check for that Workflow (Leave) raised by the PERNR at that duration ( check in IT2001 for the duration) and give it here.
After deleting it check in the portal for the leave request if any error is occuring when trying to apply for leave.

  • HT1600 "The update was not successful" when trying to Update Software on my Apple TV

After downloading for 40+ minutes, it went into step 1 and came back with "The update was not successful".  I have it connected via network cable and not wi-fi.  Is there another way to update that will get me from 5.0.2 (4250) to version 5.1?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
If your problem persists get yourself a micro USB cable (sold separately), you can restore your Apple TV from iTunes:
Remove ALL cables from Apple TV. (if you don't you will not see Apple TV in the iTunes Source list)
Connect the micro USB cable to the Apple TV and to your computer.
Reconnect the power cable (only for Apple TV 3)
    Open iTunes.
Select your Apple TV in the Devices list, and then click Restore.

  • The disk was not ejected properly message

Ever since I started using Mountain Lion, I have been getting a pop-up message "The disk was not ejected properly".  I get this frequently, click the OK button on and continue.  I do not know what disk it is referring to (I have several USB-connected storage devices) and all seem to be working and accessible.  This occurs randomly while I am using the computer and I have not hit any "eject" button or touched any part of my iMac other than the keyboard and touchpad.
This is annoying and I do not know which disk it is referring to, nor how to correct the problem.

I'm having the same issue described here. I'm using a MacBook Air (11-inch, Mid 2011 edition) with a Western Digital My Passport 1 TB drive. I first experienced it with a USB3 capable model. After seeing this error occur, I was able to get the drive replaced by Western Digital, thinking it was a fault with the drive. Well, the replacement arrived today and I plugged it in and started a new Time Capsule backup to it and within a few minutes got the same message.
So I'm starting to think this is an OS issue.

  • "Part of the project was not played" error

I just got a brand new iMac--double the number or processors and twice the RAM as the old one--and I keep getting this error in Garageband:
Part of the project was not played
This project has too many real instrument tracks to be played in real-time.
To optimize performance, see the 'Optimizing GarageBand performance' page in GarageBand Help.
This issue only rarely cropped up on my old machine, and it was usually because the computer was chugging away on too many projects at once.  I am editing a podcast which has two (rather long) audio tracks.
I have quite all other applications.
    I have fixed permissions.
I have tried from another user account.
    I have deleted prefs files.
    I have reinstalled Garageband.
Nothing is helping.  This is very frustrating.
Any guidance you could give me would be EXTREMELY appreciated!
    Thanks!
    Evan

In my case, the culprit was backups and disk-related software eating large amounts of CPU.
I recently ran into this problem with a very small project. Even after locking all tracks, I could not record all the way through the project without getting "project not played".
One pattern I noticed was that I could never get through the whole project when Time Machine was backing up. So I turned off TM and tried again.
Even then, I couldn't get all the way through. Running Activity Monitor, I could see that WD's disk software (came with the My Book drive I use for backup), would periodically consume a big chunk of CPU, even though I wasn't using the WD disk... even if I dismounted the drive. So I uninstalled the WD software.
With this change, Activity Monitor shows ~0% CPU. TM can still give problems, so I shut it down when I record.
Now GB runs fine, even with multiple tracks unlocked.
Moral: use Activity Monitor to make sure something isn't chewing up too much CPU. It may be an intermittent load, which makes it harder to see. But a big burst in non-GB CPU activity can stop GB, even if the burst is brief.
