The internal speakers all of a sudden don't work. What should I do?

I need help please.

1. If you see red light in the headphone port plug the headphone into and out
of the port to flip the microswitch inside. Sound may be stuck in the digital mode.
2. System Preference > Sound > Output
Make sure that Mute is not enabled.
3. Reset PRAM.  http://support.apple.com/kb/PH4405

  • The home button on my iPad 2 isn't working, what should I do?

I recently got an iPad 2 for Christmas a couple of months ago, I've had 10 iPhones from iPhone 1 through to 4s and I know how much pressure to apply to the home button and not to press it too hard. And on my iPad it doesn't seem to be consistent it works around 20% of the time but I have to use the pinching 4 fingers thing the other 80% of the time and to be honest this isn't what I expect. What should I do?

    Francescaalucy,
It sounds like there is a problem with the iPad 2 that turning it on and off wouldn't fix, as you have said. So you may want to schedule and appointment with the Genius Bar and see what they say because that sounds like a manufacturing issue.

  • Eye Candy plugins, all of a sudden, don't work anymore...

I have FW CS5 on Windows 7 (64 bit).  I have been using various Eye Candy plugins (by Alien Skin) for about a year, and they worked fine.  But yesterday, seemingly for no reason, they all stopped working (Eye Candy 5 [Impact, Nature, Textures], Image Doctor, Xenofex 2).  When I access them via the Properties panel, and I click on one of them, nothing happens.  And when I access them via the drop-down menu at the top of the UI, under Filters, I get an error message:  "Could not complete your request.  An internal error occurred."
I have tried re-installing the plugins and FW, but that didn't change anything.  I deleted the preferences and that didn't help either.  All my other plugins work fine. Any ideas?

Thanks for posting. We had to discontinue support for Fireworks due to multiple issues caused by the Live Effects. At this time we do not have any plans to bring back support for Fireworks, but that could change. I can not make any promises on that matter though. If you are on a Windows computer, you stand a better chance at getting it to work than if you are on a Mac, but still, the success rate on Windows is about 50%.
Since the gold standard for plug-ins is Photoshop compatiblity, Fireworks should in theory handle them. Since it won't it's likely Adobe has either inadvertently broken something, or they are only allowing older plugins to run. Since we are always updating and using the latest versions of software to create out plug-ins, this creates an extra layer of possible problems. Eitherway, complaining to Adobe in mass, would be the best route to take. Im sure it seems like the requests go into a void, but if you get a lot of people asking for the same thing, you may get a response.
Rest assured, if we ever decided to bring back Fireworks support, we will scream it from the top of every mountain.
If you don't mind me asking, what other plug-ins do people use in Fireworks, besides Eye Candy?

  • I set up firefox sync on two desktops; setting it up on a third fails with "unknown error" after I input the key. All other add-ons are disabled. What should I do?

I followed the same procedure in adding a device for the second and for the third. The second one worked, but not the third.
As far as I know, all software is up to date.

ok.. I tried this three times and kept getting that access denied thing when I clicked post my questions. So now maybe I wont have to typ this a fifth time....
I have a MAC computer with Sync. Was set up under sync Beta. I have an Android phone synced to it that was synced using the pair this device function. It works perfectly. I just got a new Android Tablet and am trying to add it to my sync and it does not seem to have the pair my device function. It insists I log into my sync account. So I try it and it tells me invalid userid/password. I verify and it is the exact email address userid that shows as being my sync account on the MAC. I verify the password on the MAC and it tests out fine. Try the tablet again and invalid.. So I try to reset my password on the tablet and am told my email address/account name does not exist. I just verified it AND Synced my MAC using it!! I have my recovery Key but there is no place to input it into the tablet. There is no place on tablet to enter the link device codes. How can my account be valid and in use on two devices but invalid and nonexistant on the new one? And How do I get the New one to sync with other two?

  • The last few times I've used headphones in my iPad, the audio has been all messed up to the extent where it's better to just use the internal speakers and not the headphones. I've tried multiple pairs of headphones to no avail. Help?

The last few times I've used headphones in my iPad, the audio has been all messed up to the extent where it's better to just use the internal speakers and not the headphones. I've tried multiple pairs of headphones to no avail.
The iPad was bought in mid-June, but I did not get extended Apple-Care warranty on it. Any idea of what's happenening?

Multiple means how many? If only 2 or 3, they could all be faulty. Try the headphones in some other device, to make sure they are OK. Or there could be something wrong with the headphone port.
Your iPad is still covered by the 1-year warranty so you should make a Genius appointment and have it looked at.
Another thing to try is to plug in the headphone jack a few times in succession to see if it frees up something inside the port.

help. I have a Google Hangout in 40mins and my sound seems to have vanished. I went to Sys Prefs and it came up with Digital Out....and the Internal Speakers option is no longer there. How do I reboot, or fix this please?

There are many possible causes for this issue. Take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. Some may not apply to your model. Back up all data before making any changes.
    1. Start with the steps recommended in this support article. Don't skip any of the steps. It's the starting point for further efforts to solve the problem.
    2. Make sure you have a fully up-to-date installation of OS X.
    3. If you've installed an application called "Memory Clean" or any other third-party software that is supposed to "clean" or "purge" memory automatically, remove it according to the developer's instructions and restart. You should do that even if the software is not causing the problem, because it's useless.
    4. Other third-party software that has been reported to interfere with sound output includes "Boom" and "Samsung Kies." If applicable, uninstall according to the developer's instructions (not by dragging something to the Trash.)
    5. If an AirPlay device is selected for sound output from iTunes (or from other applications via third-party software such as "Airfoil"), deselect it.
    6. Launch the application "Audio MIDI Setup" by entering the first few letters of its name in a Spotlight search and selecting it in the results (it should be at the top.) Select Built-in Output from the list on the left. If the Mute boxes are checked, uncheck them.
    7. If a red light is visible in the audio-out port when sound should be playing, the internal switch is stuck in the position for digital output. You may be able to free it by inserting and removing a mini-stereo jack of the proper size. If not, the machine needs to be serviced. Inserting any kind of tool in the port may cause damage that won't be covered by the warranty.
If there's no red light, the switch may still be stuck in the headphone position. Try to free it the same way.
    8. Disconnect all wired peripherals except keyboard and mouse, if applicable. If more than one display is connected, disconnect all extra ones. Restart and test.
    9. If you have a MacBook Air, turn off Bluetooth and restart.
    10. Start up in safe mode. Don't log in; just restart as usual when the login screen appears. When you do, make sure the words "Safe Boot" do not appear in the login screen. If they do, the system is still in safe mode and sound won't work.
    11. Reset the NVRAM.
    12. Reset the SMC.
    13. Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/Preferences/Audio
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item selected. Move the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password. Restart the computer and empty the Trash. Recreate your settings in the Sound preference pane.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
    14. Reinstall OS X after backing up all data.
    15. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store.

  • How to get access to the internal speakers?

Since updating my Macbook with the last security patch the audio prefpane lost the internal speakers. Nevertheless they are working: the sound while booting comes.
I've just reseted the parameter ram, cleared caches, rebuild the access structure.
    And now?

I've had a similar problem on my G5 Desktop, but I don't think it was internal speakers, just the usb headset/iMic adaptor that was lost. Disconnecting and reconnecting always fixed it.
I'm guessing a restart didn't fix it, either?
I tried to find a plist that might control it, and all I found was /Library/Preferences/com.apple.audio.DeviceSettings.plist
I'm not certain this will do anything, but you could try moving it out of the /Library/Preferences folder.
I don't know if a restart, logout/in, or just opening the Sound prefs will be needed. If it doesn't fix anything, you can always move it back.

  • HT6065 internal speakers on my 2011 iMac don't function after 10.9.1 update

i woke my iMac up this evening, dismissed all the notifications about the software updates that happened last night (the 10.9.1 OS X update) and proceeded to open iTunes. the internal speakers work during startup (i get the boot sound) but don't work once the operating system kicks in. the headphone jack doesn't work, and i get this strange icon when i try to change the volume with the keyboard keys...
i opened up sounds in system preferences, and under "output" there are no output devices found.
i have tried the solutions i found online for no sound out of your internal iMac/macbook speakers - i have reset the SMC, the PRAM/NVRAM, have plugged/unplugged headphones from the rear headphone jack, blown into the headphone jack, jiggled a headphone plug...and nothing. i have never plugged headphones into this computer, only always used external speakers.
i am confident this is related to the software update, i literally was on itunes listening to music at my desk on Tuesday...didn't touch the computer on Wednesday, and then got on tonight to the update notifications and no sound.
below is the info about my computer...any suggestions?

i called apple support today. went through the same things with them, they recommended reinstalling OS X. so i did. and it's now fixed.
so i guess if you are experiencing this same issue, as a last resort before taking the computer into an apple store, just reinstall the operating system.
when you reboot, after the startup-sound hold (SHIFT + R) and choose reinstall OS X from the option menu that is presented.

  • For 1/11/11 expert day: can hear sounds on headphones but no sound via the internal speakers

HP Pavilion dv6135nr Notebook internal speakers have stopped working.  I can hear sounds on headphones but no sound via the internal speakers.  A search on HP customer care for my notebook yielded the download recommendation below, even though I had not stated my problem.  However, executing this download did NOT resolve the problem.  Please advise regarding resolution to inoperable speakers.  I do not know if all of my sound and audio settings are correct, but the mute is not on and the volume controls are properly set.  The default device is Conexant High Definition Audio output, per the sound and audio devices properties hardware  tab the device status states "this device is working properly."  Is it possible that a Skype or Foxfire update is in conflict with this device?  If so, how do I resolve this situation?
    Thank you.

Re: Fixes issue where the notebook speakers do not work after headphones or earphones are used for a while and then unplugged.
HOW DO YOU FIX THIS?? I cannot find the correct Microsoft Universal Audio Architecture (UAA) Bus Driver for High Definition Audio that works with my computer...
    My computer:
    VISTA
    HP Compaq 2230s Notebook PC
Everytime I use my headphones for more than an hour or two, the **bleep** audio will not play on my notebook's speakers, just through the headphones. Usually restarting a few times resolves the problem, but not this time. If I knew that HP computers sucked this much I would never have spent so much money on this one!!!
Can you please tell me how to fix this problem once and for all? Thanks!!
