Are they selected under System Preferences>Sound? Or do you see something such as "Digital Output" listed instead of "Internal Speakers"?
It may be that your digital out switch is 'stuck.' This usually happens after using headphones and you can usually see a red light coming from the audio out port. You can 'fix' this by plugging and unplugging a headphone jack repeatedly until the switch is reset.

  • Beep the internal speakers, while there are external plugged?

How can I use the "beep" command and have the laptop beep even if there are speakers connected through the audio port, but switched off? Want to be able to set the beep to inform me of certain events, even when the external speakers are off (I keep them always plugged in though).
    Any ideas?

that is my problem, when there are external speakers plugged in, it just produces the beep sound through the speakers.

  • Internal speakers are not working,  they're not showing up at all. Does anyone know how to fix this?

My computer's speakers are not putting out sound. They worked fine yesterday, and I just now started up my computer and began using it today. The internal speakers don't show up on my list of output devices in settings, and I can't adjust the volume. Any help is really appreciated!!!

They are all in the same folder and it says all images are there, but it is only showing 1 card's images at a time. Does anyone know how to fix this?
This is kind of confusing, on the one hand you say "it says all images are there" and then you directly contradict this by saying "it is only showing 1 card's images at a time".
Could you explain in a lot more detail what you see (and don't say "it", say exactly what part of Lightroom or what part of your operating system you are looking at), or show us a screen capture?

  • My internal speakers are not showing up in output preferences

Head phones work fine. As soon as I unplug the head phones the sound icon goes from black to greyed out. The port works fine because if it was stuck it would not go from black to greyed out every time I plug and unplug the headphones. So the sensor is working and letting me know when the head phones are plugged in so please don't suggest a jammed port as an option. If it was stuck the icon would stay on constantly. When I look under system preferences>sound>output I only have headphones and Apple TV as an option. The internal speakers have disappeared from the list. When I reboot the macbook I get the familiar sound of the start up so I know the speakers work. I believe the problem started when we got Apple TV AirPlay but it could be a coincidence. Also I have been looking through the forums dating back to 2006 and have not found any thing that works.  Thanks for any new information.

  • Satellite A50 - internal speakers are dead

    Hi
My both internal speakers are not working. I plug earphone sound is ok.
    Driver is ok, hardware too.
I tried to get new speakers with no success.
Can I replace the speakers with small one (I took of from my small battery radio)?
It will work or affect the MB?

    Hi
    > I tried to get new speakers with no success.
Did you try to order the compatible speakers from the ASP in your country?
In my opinion they would be able to provide the right and compatible speakers.
In worst case (speakers are not on stock) they could order the needed parts from a Toshiba headstock.
    > Can I replace the speakers with small one (I took of from my small battery radio)?
I would not recommend using any parts which are not compatible with the notebook.
The smaller speakers would not match with the notebooks chassis and you could get some problems with the installation.

  • My MacBook Pro internal speakers are not working, what happened?

My MacBook Pro internal speakers are not working, what happened? If I plug in earbuds or external speakers, there is sound. In sound preferences, internal speakers are not a choice. Why doesn't my internal speakers work?

Hopefully one of these steps should solve the problem.
    1. Remove the headphone.
If you see red light in the headphone port, plug the headphone
in and out of the port 5 or 6 times to flip the microswitch inside.
Sound output may be stuck in the digital mode.
    2. Reset PRAM.  http://support.apple.com/kb/PH4405
    3. Reset SMC.     http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
        Choose the method for:
"Resetting SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own".
    4. Applications > Utilities > Audio MIDI Setup
        Audio Devices window
        Side Bar
        Click the Built-in Output.
Under Mute any of the boxes checked? If so, uncheck it.
    Best.

  • HT1338 my internal speakers are not working

I went to the sound preferences, thru my system preferences menu, and my internal speakers are not listed as a choice in the "select a device for sound output". It's like the computer doesn't acknowledge their presence. I can get sound thru my headphones but not thru the built in speakers

    First reset the PRAM:

If that doesn't do it, reset the SMC:

  • My internal speakers are intermittent...

I have a G5 running Tiger and I've noticed that the internal speakers seem to automatically default to 'digital out' for about 15 minutes, before reverting back to built in speakers. It's really annoying as it either does it from boot up, or it does it within the first 10 minutes... anyone any ideas why it does this and how on earth i can stop it? I've never plugged any external speakers or headphones in either...!
    thanks

    Strange.
Sounds like some sort of software issue. Have you installed any audio related programs or plug-ins?
Running disk repair (see http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214) and even repairing permissions (see http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=DiskUtility/10.5/en/duh17.html) are a good place to start.
It's worth looking at this article too: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25398
It describes how to troubleshoot a software issue. If you can isolate a preference or cache file that is causing this, you may be able to fix it by removing that file.
Another quick thing to try is safe boot. Just hold down shift as the computer turns on. That will turn off any system extensions, startup items, etc. that could be causing the issue. If that fixes it, this article tells you where to look for the culprit: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107392

They have a trial version you can test before you purchase. It limits you to 10 minutes of streaming before it starts inserting noise into the stream.
But you may not need it. I've read a bit further, and it appears that you may be able to stream any system audio to an Airport Express without needing AirFoil since you have Mountain Lion. I though it would work only with an Apple TV, but I've seen mention that it works with the AE as well (I don't have one to try). When you get your Airport Express set up, go to the Sound (speaker) icon in the menu bar, hold down the Option key, and click the icon. You may see the AE listed there as a selectable output device; if so, select it and all your system audio should be sent to the AE, including Spotify.
    Regards.

  • After connecting Jawbone as headset, internal speakers are no longer usable

    Hi everyone,
Thanks in advance for the help.
    Powerbook Aluminum 15 inch
    1.67 ghz G4
    1 gig Ram
    10.5.1
I paired my jawbone to my mac, and it works fine as a headset. When I decided I wanted to turn off the headset, I had a difficult time. I would disconnect it from the bluetooth preference pane, and before I could turn it off, it would try to reconnect again. Additionally, every time I would restart my computer, it would ask about the headset even when bluetooth was off.
The real problem, though, is that after finally disconnecting the headset, I would want to switch back to the internal speakers, but they won't show up as an output option on my sound preferences anymore. This can be fixed with a restart, but is very very annoying.
Any thoughts? Seems like this may just be a bug with Leopard...

1.5 hours with a Genius last night and it is sorted. He tried overwriting with 10.8.2 but it would not take it so wiped drive and did fresh install of 10.8.2. Then upgraded again to 10.8.3 and all still worked.
As soon as I got to the store he booted from a network version of 10.8.2 and the speakers and cameras were fine so it was obviously not a hardware problem.
Disk utility showed issues with directory counts and that is the only thing he felt may have affected the upgrade process. My drive regularly gets very full and when I delete things it corrupts the directory.
Good news is that I have a recent backup so no permanent harm done.

  • Satellite L670-1HJ -Internal Speakers are not muted when selecting line Out

I want to use an external set of speakers, but when plugging them in, selecting line out in Realtek HD Audio Manager doesn't turn off the internal speakers, instead only reducing their volume somewhat. Selecting Headphone does switch them off, but this results in audio being sent out at headphone levels, which sounds awful on normal speakers and is therefore not an option.
Is there a way I can either get it to switch them off when using line out too, or just disable the internal speakers altogether?

Unfortunately, in sound properties in can only deactivate either the HDMI output, or speakers, which switches both the internal and external ones on or off together, but doesn't let me choose between the two.
When selecting the headphone setting, the internal equalizer seems to switch to a different setting, which sounds very different and completely unnatural, so I'd prefer to find a way to use the much better sounding line out with disabled internal speakers.

help. I have a Google Hangout in 40mins and my sound seems to have vanished. I went to Sys Prefs and it came up with Digital Out....and the Internal Speakers option is no longer there. How do I reboot, or fix this please?

There are many possible causes for this issue. Take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. Some may not apply to your model. Back up all data before making any changes.
    1. Start with the steps recommended in this support article. Don't skip any of the steps. It's the starting point for further efforts to solve the problem.
    2. Make sure you have a fully up-to-date installation of OS X.
    3. If you've installed an application called "Memory Clean" or any other third-party software that is supposed to "clean" or "purge" memory automatically, remove it according to the developer's instructions and restart. You should do that even if the software is not causing the problem, because it's useless.
    4. Other third-party software that has been reported to interfere with sound output includes "Boom" and "Samsung Kies." If applicable, uninstall according to the developer's instructions (not by dragging something to the Trash.)
    5. If an AirPlay device is selected for sound output from iTunes (or from other applications via third-party software such as "Airfoil"), deselect it.
    6. Launch the application "Audio MIDI Setup" by entering the first few letters of its name in a Spotlight search and selecting it in the results (it should be at the top.) Select Built-in Output from the list on the left. If the Mute boxes are checked, uncheck them.
    7. If a red light is visible in the audio-out port when sound should be playing, the internal switch is stuck in the position for digital output. You may be able to free it by inserting and removing a mini-stereo jack of the proper size. If not, the machine needs to be serviced. Inserting any kind of tool in the port may cause damage that won't be covered by the warranty.
If there's no red light, the switch may still be stuck in the headphone position. Try to free it the same way.
    8. Disconnect all wired peripherals except keyboard and mouse, if applicable. If more than one display is connected, disconnect all extra ones. Restart and test.
    9. If you have a MacBook Air, turn off Bluetooth and restart.
    10. Start up in safe mode. Don't log in; just restart as usual when the login screen appears. When you do, make sure the words "Safe Boot" do not appear in the login screen. If they do, the system is still in safe mode and sound won't work.
    11. Reset the NVRAM.
    12. Reset the SMC.
    13. Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/Preferences/Audio
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item selected. Move the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password. Restart the computer and empty the Trash. Recreate your settings in the Sound preference pane.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
    14. Reinstall OS X after backing up all data.
    15. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store.
