The internet thinks I'm abroad/not in the UK?

Hi, sorry if this is the wrong category. I'm a new poster.
iv'e got a problem because according to the internet I'm abroad.
I've just tried to go on the BBC iPlayer website (I'm in the UK), and i get this message
"BBC iPlayer TV programmes are available to play in the UK only. Find out why.
If you are in the UK and see this message please read this advice."
I've tried to troubleshoot on the BBC website, with no luck. I went on mylocation.org (which determines your location according to the internet), and it says I'm somewhere in California, thousands of miles away!
I've tried to bypass this by using a VPN Servicw (BestUKVPN.com), however the internet still thinks I'm in the USA.
It's getting quite frustrating now!
P.S I'm pretty sure it's not the router's fault, because I checked my location on my iPhone, and i was in the UK.
Sorry if the post is a bit long and/or confusing, I'm not very technically minded
Thank you very much

Have you checked your language and region settings have a look in your network settings hit advanced and take a look see if you are using a proxy server.

• My phone thinks I am abroad. How can I get it to realise I am in the UK?

Whenever I go to Orange World I get 'Welcome to your international page' and the option 'Costs while abroad' is highlighted. I try to select some other page such as 'All today's sport'  but it just reverts to 'Cost while abroad' and I can't get . I have taken it to the shop and they took out the sim card and put it back (which I had already done) and then refreshed it (which I hadn't) but it still thinks I am abroad.  They said I'd have to phone 150 which I have but I gave up after waiting 10 minutes.  Has anyone else an idea of how I can get the internet again on this basic Samsung?

Hi
That is a bit of a strange one!
It may be worth resending / resetting the APN's on the device. Click Here and follow the steps to reset.
Hope this helps!
Let me know how you get on.
Thanks.

• I cannot open my Hotmail emails from Firefox. I have been on the hotmail Help Forum and they suggest to use Internet Explorer. Does Forefox not support Hotmail now?

Hi,
I can log into hotmail but cannot open my emails or go to Sent items or anything. I have gone on the Hotmail Help Forum and MANY people are having the same problem. Hotmail say we should use Internet explorer and they do not really answer about using Firefox.
People using Firefox 3 and 4 are having problems.
Also, i downloaded Forefox 4.0.1 and it was not fully compatible with Kaspersky - has this problem also now been resolved?
In summary - is Forfox 4.0.1 NOT comaptible with Hotmail and Kaspersky?

Sorry, I can't help with Hotmail, beyond clearing the cache - I haven't used it for 11 or 12 years now. Surprising that a Firefox 3.6 version would have trouble there, as 3.6 has been around for well over a year and Hotmail problems are usually with a recent release of Firefox.
IMO, if Hotmail support can't help you with Firefox issues on their website and can only recommend using IE, maybe it's time to change web mail service providers. My advice is to signup with a different web mail service, one that takes Firefox seriously. Then set up forwarding in your Hotmail account to have all your Hotmail emails forwarded to that new account. Then slowly transition your email contacts over to the new email address over time. As long as you log in to Hotmail every month or two, your account there should stay active and emails sent there should get forwarded to the new email account. I have done that three times in the last decade, and the first one I transitioned from was still forwarding email thru the two intermediary accounts to my current account until last summer when that service finally changed owners and they wanted all new accounts set up or transitioned to their new software - which I didn't do - and I hadn't even signed into my account there in over 4 years and "forwarding" was still working.

• I'm so angry!! I bought my iphone as 16GB and it fills up to 13.2 GB only!! I think a software will not fill 2.8 GB (ps: still didn't download the new software!)

16 GB is a rounded up or rounded down value -- it makes it easier when advertising a product.  I don't have an iPhone but almost always it is a rounded up value, so you start off with a bit less.
See the link by Stedman1 about how computer mathematics makes this less.  When advertising they use 16 GB in base ten terms, but when your device uses base 2 which means it is shown as less.
Don't forget simply formatting a drive for use in an electronic device will use some space.  No files on it yet that you see.
Your phone comes with some version of iOS.  This will take up space and that is not factored in advertising a device.
This kind of space reporting has taken place since the first computers were sold.  It's nothing new and all electronics manufacturers do it.

• HT1414 When I search for stuff on the internet it says safari could not open the page because the server stopped responding and non of my games work either. What do I do to fix this?

When I search for stuff on the internet it says safari could not open the page because the server stopped responding and non of my games work either. What do I do to fix this?

Settings → scroll down to Safari → in Safari settings, I selected both Clear History and Clear Cookies and Data.
IF that does not work -
Restart or reset your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
Finally - if problem still present -
Go to Settings>General>Reset
Reset the network settings - you will need to add the password of your home WiFi in your phone once more
The device should turn itself off & back on then go into Settings>Wifi and join your network

• I get the message 'You are not connected to the internet.  Online functionality is not available'  But I am connected to the Internet

I get the message'You are not connected to the internet.  Online functionality is not available'  I am connected so what can I do?

Try:
- A reset. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Power off and then back on the router
- Reset Network Settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
- iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
- iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
- DId the iPod ever successfully connect to the network?
- Does the iPod successfully connect to other networks?
- Do other devices successfully connect with your network?

• I would like to use my iPhone 6's wifi hotspot to provide Internet at home (I do not have home internet) via a Time Capsule which I currently use the TC simply as a home wifi network without Internet to enable things like printing wirelessly and back

I would like to use my iPhone 6's wifi hotspot to provide Internet at home (I do not have home internet) via a Time Capsule which I currently use the TC simply as a home wifi network without Internet to enable things like printing wirelessly and backing up data wirelessly via time machine.
I have a Mac Pro, iPhone 6, iPad, Apple TV and Time Capsule. No home Internet.
Is is possible to have my iPhone 6's wifi hotspot used to provide Internet to my wifi network on time capsule? Has anyone else had success doing this? I'm not a tech head and really know very little about things like this. Thanks. Jen

You can have a go using a wireless bridge.. eg the airport express will do this.. you can join it to the iphone wireless running as a hotspot.. and then plugged into the TC wan port.. the TC has to be setup in router mode.. so this is going to give you double NAT errors.. and of course errors for all the time the hotspot is turned off.. but it can work. However you might find it requires you to manually connect up each time.. If you are really going to try and do this you will manage it.. but how fiddly it becomes might put you off after a week.
You will chew up your 5GB very fast using any streaming media even radio. So be very careful to track the usage.
Apple should have built in the TC the ability to plug in a wireless 3G modem.. via the USB but Apple have ceased to do adventurous stuff.
If you give up the TC as main router there are plenty of better products on the market that will handle multiple wan connections.. !!

• AppleTV 2: to hear internet radio stations which are not in the list

Hello,
I have an AppleTV 2 and I like to hear internet radio stations which are not listed in default list.
Is there any possibility to enter the URL of an internet radio stream manually on AppleTV like in iTunes?
Thank you and best regards

You can not enter the URL into the Radio app on the ATV. You can enter it into iTunes then use AirPlay to send the audio to the ATV. You can also use internet radio apps on iPads, touch and iPhones to AirPlay on the ATV as well. I use TuneIn Radio which doesn't let you enter URLs but it has pretty much every radio and podcast feed under the sun.

• I have tried this many times.  Our iPOD is not doing what it is suppose to.  When we go under GAMES put everything in it comes up You are not conected to the internet.  Online functionality is not available.  Please someone help us.

We can not get this thing working.  Done everything through the computer, got confirmation of everything and a sheet for payment on iTUNES for games.  When we go under the icon for games when were put Apple ID and the password it come's up,"YOU ARE NOT CONNECTED TO THE INTERNET.  ONLINE FUNCTIONALITY IS NOT AVAILABLE."  We have been trying for over a week to get this thing going.  Can someone please please help us.

Forgive what may be a dumb question on my part, but have you confirmed that the iPod is indeed able to successully connect to the Internet by going to a web page in Safari or some such procedure?

If there are problems with importing the IE Favorites in Firefox then export the favorites in IE to an HTML file and import that file in the Firefox Bookmarks Manager.
If you do not have the menu bar in IE then right-click the toolbar at the top to enable the Menu Bar.
*Export the favorites in IE to an HTML file (bookmarks.html):<br>File > Import and Export
*Import the HTML file in Firefox:<br>Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks > Import & Backup > Import Bookmarks from HTML
See "Import from another browser" and "Import from file":

i updated my ipod the other day and since i have been unable to open any apps that connect to the internet, its says "operation could not be completed. invalid argument". anybody help please?

Have yu tried the standard fixes:
- Reset the iPod:
Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
Restore the iPod via iTunes,  First from backup and if problems persist, restore to factory defaults/new iPod.

• Rented a movie on my mac - trying to watch on apple tv (i think 2), but iTunes not "seeing" apple tv - so i can't 'move' the rental to the device.  ??

rented a movie on my mac - trying to watch on apple tv (i think 2), but iTunes not "seeing" apple tv - so i can't 'move' the rental to the device.  i'm brand new at apple tv - do i need to enable it or something?

Is it the little black box? If yes then it is the 2nd model. It won't show up in iTunes as there is no syncing involved. The only time it does is when you connect and need to restore the device.
You need to enable home sharing in iTunes and on ATV

• TS1363 I can't connect to the itunes store from my Windows Vista PC. I have run diagnostics and itunes have verified my internet connection as positive, but not the secure link to the itunes store. This comes up as failed.  Any suggestions?

everytime I try to open the store it endlessly says "accessing iTunes store" but it never opens.
With those symptoms, I'd try the following document:
Apple software on Windows: May see performance issues and blank iTunes Store
(If there's a SpeedBit LSP showing up in Autoruns, it's usually best to just uninstall your SpeedBit Video Accelerator.)

• Internet broken on one OS, not the other

A few weeks ago, I was trying to fix some bug that was causing my main operating system (Mountain Lion) on my MacBook Pro (early 2011) to constantly create virtual memory, killing my battery at tremendous rates, eating up my hard drive and destroying my computer's performance. I spent forever trying to fix the stupid problem, and found somewhere that deleting certain .plist files (but not these specific apple ones) would fix the problem.
It fixed the problem! No more slow computer!
And then my internet stopped working. But only on that operating system, Mountain Lion. I have another operating system partitioned off, Snow Leopard, that I use for legacy software, and it works perfectly fine still.
A week ago I upgraded Mountain Lion to a developer version of Maverick (no comments), since Mountain Lion was screwed anyways without internet and I thought, why not? Maverick works great, and I thought the update might fix the internet, but it still doesn't work.
I've deleted all my network connections, deleted all network plists and recreated everything from scratch. The connection is great, I have a local IP address—it just won't connect to any websites!
Google.com would actually work for a while and allow me to search things. Weirdest thing. It stopped working though.
Again, my Snow Leopard is getting internet fine. That's what I'm on now.
I've searched the web up and down for this specific problem and I can't find anything on it. So I finally gave up on trying to fix it myself, and here I am.
Help me please?

Have you tried trashing /Library/Preverences/SystemConfiguration/NetworkInterfaces.plist ?
In some instances renaming the folder /Library/Preverences/SystemConfiguration and adding .old on the end and rebooting the mac will refresh all of the Network Interfaces and Power Management settings enough to resolve networking issues.
Have you tried to connect to a different network? Is the issue the same on all Networks? Does Ethernet work?
Are you able to use Network Utility to Ping any site? Are you able to Ping an i/p address on the internet?
