The ip is right in printer but wrong when I try to make wireless from USB

I have made a static IP address for the printer and put it in the printer as well.  But when I use the software to set it up, it tries to ping an obscure IP that is not part of our LAN.  How can I get it to Ping the IP I need it to ping?  Is there a file I can edit to get it to choose the right IP?

Yes right... OJ J6480 sorry about that.  When I worked at HP I uploaded LJ drivers to the web.
ANYWAY.... WPA-PSK...  pointing to my router, my  LAN,   Right DNS Subnet etc.
The IP I chose was from the DHCP range.  Do you think that is my problem?  I made it a static IP.  But I had this problem before I made it a static IP.
Ran the diagnostic program.  It seem to point out my firewall.  I made a few changes in my firewall.  But I still can't print.
I'm wondering if I should uninstall the software on my laptop and reinstall it all over again.  This is so frustrating because when I first installed it, it worked fine.  Now I am having all kinds of problems and have to use the USB to print which I don't want to do.
