The ipad cannot be synced. An internal device error occured.

Can't sync ipad. Can't restore.

I had the same problem. But I was able to fix it with a little luck.
If you have a backup of your iPad that is functional and has value, hold on to it.
First, restore/wipe your iPad so it is empty execpt for the stock software.
Begin to restore your iPad from the backup.
As it is working, click on the "Manage My Own Music" selection on the iPad sync window. Will ask if you are sure, say yes.
Un-check and Re-Check the top box in the music section of the sync pages.
Click Sync at the bottom and let it work.

  • The iPad cannot be synced. An unknown error occurred (1140).

Since updating my iPad to iOS 6 and updating iPhoto to 9.4, I have been receiving the error The iPad <name of my iPad> cannot be synced. An unknown error occurred (1140).
The syncing seems to be centered around photos. I used to have the box checked next to "Sync Photos from iPhoto" and now the only way that I can get the iPad to finish sync without error is to uncheck that box.
Any ideas how to fix this problem or what that code is?
A couple things that I should mention:
    1) Photo Stream is Off on my iPad.
    2) If you click on the Photo app it shows that there are no photos on the iPad. Screen says No Photos or Videos - You can take photos and videos using the camera, or sync photos and videos onto your iPad usining iTunes.
    3) If I go to Settings > General > Usage > Photos & Camera it shows that I have 4.2 GB of data used by photos and camera. Clicking on it, it shows that 3.7 GB is Photo Stream and 551 MB is Photo Library.
    4) If I got to the same usage screen on my iPhone 4 running iOS 6, Photo Stream is listed as 1.5 GB.
I can't seem to figure out how to get rid of the space on the iPad, but I assume this error as something to do with iTunes thinking there is a library on the iPad that isn't there. That's just me assuming though.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm having the same issue.  After updating all iOS devices to iOS 6, then updating all software on my iMac to the latest versions (including iPhoto 9.4), everthing was working as it should.  I was able to sync all of my devices (New iPad, iPod Touch, iPhone4) with the iMac early this morning.
Subsequently, I opened iPhoto for the first time since installing 9.4, a window popped up informing me that my photo library had to be converted to work with the iPhoto 9.4.  I clicked okay, and let the conversion process run its course.
About ten minutes later, I attempted to once again sync my iPad with the iMac.  The sync process would run for a few seconds, then stop with a window popping up saying "The iPad cannot be synced. An unknown error occurred (1140)".  I then attempted to sync the iPod and my iPhone, with the same results.
After consulting the discussion forums, it looked like lots of other users are encountering the same problem, and that it was somehow related to the new iPhoto.  Someone suggested turning off syncing photos from iPhoto, which I did.  With photo syncing turned off, the rest of the sync program now runs without a problem.
I've submitted a bug report to Apple.  Hopefully, enough other users have done the same, and Apple will fix whatever it is that's causing the problem.

  • IPad cannot be synced.  An unknown error occurred (1140).

    brand new iPad
    Powerbook G4
    Leopard 10.5.8
    iPhoto 6.0.6
I am getting this error message:
"The iPad "Robert's iPad" cannot be synced. An unknown error occurred (1140)."
The problem seems to be my iPhoto library, which contains 2611 photos. When I go under Devices in iTunes, click on the Photos tab and uncheck "Sync Photos from iPhoto", then the iPad will sync. When this box is checked I get the error.
I tried restarting the Apps, computer, and iPad - still get the same error.
I tried changing "sync from iPhoto" (the App) to "sync from iPhoto Library" (the folder). That copied the photos to the iPad, but it did not preserve the 40+ Albums that I had set up in iPhoto to organize everything.
How can I sync with iPhoto without getting this error? Do I need to refresh my photo library in some way before syncing?

The story is about the DB of iphoto: So... just reconstruct it!!!
Press alt + cmd (with iphoto closed) and open it pressing the keys until the reconstruct menu appears... select the last option "reconstruct"... (take a while) ... then open itunes and Voila!

  • The iPhone cannot be synced.  An unknown error occurred (13213)

I "upgraded" to iTunes 8 and iPhone firmware 2.1 this morning. On the first attempt to sync I get the message "The iPhone cannot be synced. An unknown error occured (13213)" which is not very helpful.
I unplugged the phone from the computer, restarted the phone, closed and restarted iTunes, and the problem still occurs.
    How do I fix this?

I had the same error - I was getting it dozens of times after upgrading to iTunes 8.0, installing iPhone 2.1, *+and enabling Genius+*. I have not upgraded QuickTime to 7.5.5 yet.
*Update: it seems Genius is indeed to blame. People posting in this thread http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1706466&tstart=60 say turning off Genius resolves the problem for them: "Go to iTunes 8 Menu Bar. Store ->Turn off Genius"*
Specifically it happened on the first sync after I'd turned on Genius, during the part of the sync while songs were being updated on my iPhone. I had about 300 songs to update (because of smart playlist updates) and it seemed to be happening on some but not all of the songs. I clicked OK to the error a dozen or three times, and finally canceled the sync with over 100 songs left to sync.
I followed the process doc007 described: "Close iTunes 8. Plug the phone/touch back in (which should start itunes and turn on the device) I think that was it."
That did not resolve it for me. I still had about 114 music files left to sync, and I was still getting a few more 13213 errors.
I'm going to feel silly if this is completely explained in another thread, but I'm still clicking OK to the errors for another few minutes....Ok, now it has finished, and it says it synced successfully. And...yup, looks like it did sync successfully. Except for all those 13213's.

  • When I drag music onto my ipod I get: "The ipod cannot be synced. An unknown error occurred (13019)." Solution?

When I drag a song/album/playlist onto my ipod I get the message "The ipod cannot be synced. An unknown error occurred (13019)."
I then restored my ipod and synced it to the backup. The error came again, and I did the same. 3 times.
After that, thinking there may be something bad on the ipod or whatever, I restored it again. This time i DIDN'T sync it to the back-up. It was retuned to factory settings.
But, hey, here I am now, with the same problem.
If anyone has any suggestions? Please.

  • The iPhone cannot be synced. An unknown error occurred (-39).

Last couple of days--since the new 4.3.5 update, it seems--I have been getting this message each time I try to sync my iPhone:
The iPhone cannot be synced. An unknown error occurred (-39).
Or, sometimes, I get this one:
The iPhone cannot be synced. The required file cannot be found.
It's happening in Step 4 of 4 of the sync, during photo deletion.
Any ideas how to resolve this, please? I've restarted the iPhone and computer, both, numerous times but can't seem to shake this one loose.
    Thanks!

Did a little digging online and found a solution:
This error is associated with the iPhoto library.
    Navigate to <username>/Pictures/iPhoto Library
Right-click on iPhoto Library and show package contents.
Remove the folder iPod Photo cache (delete it, move it to Trash or whatever - just remove it from the iPhoto Library).
Sync the iPhone. The photos will reverify and it's done. Almost. It will take some time if you have thousands of images...

  • The iphone cannot be synced. An unknown error occurred (13019)

After reading discussions on this error, I found a fix and had to share.
I have the iPhone 3G (16G). I upgraded iTunes and iPhone 3.0 When I tried to sync, it gave me the error "The iphone cannot be synced. An unknown error occurred 13019"
I unchecked the Music> Sync Music option. It gave me the "Are you sure you do not want to sync music?" I chose the Don't Sync Music button and the sync was successful.
I then checked Music> Sync Music option and was able to successfully load all of my music back... granted, it took time to reload.
I'm no expert, but since it worked for me... I figured it was worth posting.

I have the same iphone and I have not been able to access my music in weeks. I keep getting that error 13019 when I would sync up.
Thank you for taking the time to post this fix! It definitely works. It does take a while after you unsync the music to put it back on but at least I have my music again!!!
